If you value the free, fair, and open Internet,

then you need to act now, before two corporate giants deal it away.

Several news outlets reported yesterday that Google and Verizon are about to cut a deal that would allow giant corporations to control which websites load slowly, quickly, or not at all.1,2,3 Google used to oppose this kind of corporate control over the Internet, but now it looks like they might be changing their tune. Google's motto is "Don't be evil," but it looks like their pursuit of profit might be getting in the way of living up to that ideal.4

Thankfully, it's not a done deal yet -- and with enough pressure, we can stop them from acting. That's why we're joining our friends at CREDO, MoveOn, and Free Press to demand that Google back off this corporate takeover of the Internet. Will you add your voice, and then ask your friends and family to do the same?

http://www.colorofchange.org/google/?id=1950-229412

The basic promise of the Internet lies in the guarantee that information you put online is treated the same as anyone else's information in terms of its basic ability to travel across the Internet. Your own personal website or blog can compete on equal footing with the biggest companies. It's the reason the Internet is so diverse — and so powerful. Anyone with a good idea can find their audience online, whether or not there's money to promote the idea or money to be made from it.

This is critical for Black communities and others that have had our voices compromised by corporate-controlled media. For the first time in history we can communicate with a broad audience, educate, politically organize, and create new businesses — without prohibitive costs or mediation by gatekeepers in government or industry. It's the strength of your ideas, not the size of your budget, that largely determines your success. In television, radio, and print this can't happen because access is determined by big media corporations seeking to turn a profit.

This deal could take the Internet in a different direction. It could end the Internet's level playing field by allowing rich corporations like Google to pay for faster-loading websites and services. It could destroy the potential for independent voices to compete with giant corporations for an audience — big corporations who can pay for preferential access to Internet users would drown out the smaller voices online. And it could mean that you'll start getting less Internet service at a higher cost.

We expect the big telecommunications companies to try to stifle freedom and equality on the Internet — they've hired an army of lobbyists to do just that. But Google has always said it supports a free and open Internet. Google likes to portray itself as a corporation with principles that go beyond profit, and it would be disappointing to see Google abandon them.

Google has tried to downplay this story. They issued a short, carefully worded statement that says they're still committed to an open Internet, but they haven't denied that they are in talks with Verizon to cut a deal that would give corporations more control over Internet traffic.5

By speaking out, you can pressure Google to walk away from this deal. But time is running out — please sign our petition to Google today.

Nora, if you paid attention to ... and HI NOBODY!

all these documentaries we mentioned, for instance, the story about the Federal Reserve, the Obama Deception, The Fall of the Republic, the 9/11 films, the story of the BANKERS, the Aaron Russo film and interview I linked to twice hoping people would watch, well, all the Alex Jones films - you know the answer to your question.

If you even paid the slightest attention to the Obama phenomenon, how he came to be President of the United States and WHY (for instance, listen to the Kissinger statement at the beginning of the Obama Deception) you know the answer. It really was and is all out in the open. So easy to see.

So If you are actually serious when calling the media "mainstream servant press" you know the answer to your question already.

Do most Americans have a militarist mindset? Or do...

Nobody,
of course there is plenty of room on this planet for everyone
(the billionaire philanthropists are a disgrace - the Gatses, Soros, Turner, Rockefeller ....bbl to post some imp. links)
e.g.Ted Turner who practically owns statesize property all for himself, is totally open about the fact that billions of the earth's population must die.

There are Fema camps set up all over the place in case people should finally wake up ...
Soldiers and Police are trained to carry out martial law here at home.
It is incredible how pacified the citizens are. Is there any doubt that the poisons in water and food (and most likely already Lithium as planned) has taken away the fighting brain cells en masse? ...

of course, Obama was selected by the elite for a reason (just like Bush II)But so many rather die than accept that fact.

Your recent links on the other thread are excellent, Nobody.

One of those days

From a swim session at the gym, I was walking back to the Jetta last night and I flashed on the the rented Deepwater Horizon type rigs remaining in the Gulf and started thinking that those types of on-water drilling vessels probably are not owned outright by Transocean. Money was probably borrowed from a large banking concerned, such as a Goldman Sachs to finance the construction by the South Korean firm who built it. Hyundai Heavy Industries probably received payment in full, conceivably buying US Treasury Bonds (or loaning money to the US) with part of the profit. The Swiss based/Houston housed Transocean may have stopped paying the bank when BP stopped paying them. By paying, I mean transferring digits on screens. The oil in the gulf, the remainder of the rig on the ocean floor and the dead are real. The rest is part of a cloud economy manipulated by clusters of corporate gamers, dressing their avatars in Wall Street excess and outfitting them the same. The game goes on. The big players confident they can keep the oil game going, “We have to have fossil fuels, plastics and many other petroleum based products. Golly gee whatever could replace them? We couldn’t be harvesting post manufactured waste, we couldn’t recycle and repurpose stuff, could we?

Other than that, the default is always: What the fuck difference does it make? It is difficult to get worked up over candidates, much less send money for ads. It is my firm belief that it is essential for broadcasting networks to complicate issues regardless of whether they are. Straightforward reporting (Such as “Indications of lax safety measures led to the mine explosion killing many.” may be initiated, followed by ads by corporate entities “Mineworkers love their work because coal companies are always looking out for their safety and coal is wonderful for children and cuddly dogs”, followed by ads in which citizen groups respond to falsehoods (35 violations were filed against this coal company and here is a picture of the owner kicking a dog.), followed by dueling partisan political ad support (“I eat coal for breakfast because commies hate coal and Jesus loves it.” vs “We support heroic miners and will hold a hearing into this horrible tragedy. We will hold these companies accountable.” Why would a network or its affiliates want to loose these revenues by straightforward reporting? You wouldn’t want these networks to loose revenues would you? Decades of Government is Bad, hugh unregulated government contracts for private entities are Good - look at the missile flying through the sky, look at he explosion, isn’t this manly, isn’t this fun to watch, doesn’t this give the viewer a sense of well being?

Let me know when citizens are outraged and in the streets because they don’t have access to cheap affordable user friendly solar panel/direct wind generated grid connected energy that is universally accepted by all utility companies. Let me know when the majority of our citizens understand that there are consequences to having a defense/security based economy where taxes go into projects that blow-up or produce an incomprehensible mass of data stored in warehouses and they are in the streets because they would prefer schools, clinics, recreational facilities and safety net programs.

Nothing Short of Nukes Will Work

By Gwynne Dyer

August 06, 2010 "New Zealand Herald" -- When Admiral Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the highest-ranking American officer, was asked recently on NBC's Meet The Press show whether the United States has a military plan for an attack on Iran, he replied simply: "We do".

General staffs are supposed to plan for even the most unlikely future contingencies. Right down to the 1930s, the US maintained and annually updated plans for the invasion of Canada - and the Canadian military made plans to pre-empt the invasion.

But what the planning process will have shown, in this case, is that there is no way for the US to win a non-nuclear war with Iran.

Ban on SmartMeter hook-ups for 6 mos. in Calif. town

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2010/08/06/BU6M1EPHUK.D...

[excerpt]

Fairfax officials have slapped a six-month moratorium on the installation of Pacific Gas and Electric Co.'s controversial SmartMeters, acting on concerns that the wireless devices collect sensitive personal information and could threaten public health.

Other towns and cities - including San Francisco - have asked state energy regulators to suspend SmartMeter installation across all of PG&E's service territory, which covers most of Central and Northern California.

But the Fairfax Town Council decided late Wednesday to push ahead with its own temporary ban, basing its authority on the town's right to control the installation of communications antennas within its borders. The wireless meters, which measure electricity and natural gas usage, feed their data to antennas that, in turn, relay the information to PG&E.

While many critics have questioned the accuracy of the meters, Fairfax Mayor Lew Tremaine said the council was more focused on safety and privacy.

People who believe the electromagnetic radiation from wireless devices is a health hazard view the meters as a serious threat. Some PG&E customers have complained of debilitating headaches and nausea after the meters were installed on their homes. PG&E insists the meters are safe.

While the possible health effects of wireless devices such as cell phones and laptop computers remains in deep dispute, Fairfax officials want more information before allowing PG&E to continue installing SmartMeters in town.

"There's competing science on both sides of the argument, so it's very difficult to sort out," Tremaine said. "Fairfax's position here is that we should be following the precautionary principle. Unless we know no harm will be done, we shouldn't do it."

The council also wants more information on how data collected by the meters are used - and kept private. By measuring a home's electricity use hour by hour, the meters can show when residents wake up, go to work or leave on vacation - information that many people may not want others to see.

PG&E has already installed 200 SmartMeters in Fairfax, out of a planned total of 8,000. The utility, based in San Francisco, agreed before Wednesday's vote to temporarily suspend meter installation in Fairfax and hold at least one public meeting to address residents' concerns.

"We have found that, as customers learn more about the SmartMeter program and the benefits it can have with saving energy, the more excited they become about partici- pating in it," PG&E spokesman Jeff Smith said.

Smith would not say, however, how long PG&E planned to delay installing meters in Fairfax or what will happen if the company wants to move ahead before the town council's moratorium expires.

What Collapsing Empire Looks Like

By Glenn Greenwald

As we enter our ninth year of the War in Afghanistan with an escalated force, and continue to occupy Iraq indefinitely, and feed an endlessly growing Surveillance State, reports are emerging of the Deficit Commission hard at work planning how to cut Social Security, Medicare, and now even to freeze military pay. But a new New York Times article today illustrates as vividly as anything else what a collapsing empire looks like, as it profiles just a few of the budget cuts which cities around the country are being forced to make. This is a sampling of what one finds:

George H.W. Bush and offshore drilling

Bush I's company Zapata was an offshore drilling pioneer, wasn't it?

Just can't get away from the Bush Crime Family....

Mike Malloy announcement Wednesday...

Anyone have a clue what that will be about?

And I still hold you as harmless...

to me at least...

How can there ever be such a thing as "even" between individuals when each owes the other so much and pays so great just by existing?

I would dare not attempt to keep books on that one or on what you've given me by your company these few years...

I'll be here a while to see if I can light a fire here and there and maybe toast a bun or two...lol

Standing at the edge of the map...It may be my old eyes playing tricks but I think I see a new horizon across the void...

Not sure if I should find myself more sedate environs...Probably just incite a riot or something amongst the locals...Lord knows there were enough here that would've burned me at the stake at one time for my persistant lip...

Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity, a group of former intelligence and military officials, warns President Obama in a memo that Israel is preparing to attack Iran this month, and that Obama needs to publicly denounce such an attack in order to prevent a wider war and the ultimate destruction of Israel.

...

Pointing out that Israel has habitually employed surprise and deception in furthering its geopolitical aims, VIPS warns Obama that misplaced trust in Israeli Prime Minister [Benjamin] Netanyahu’s assurances that Israel would not launch a surprise attack would be foolhardy.

The memo highlights Netanyahu’s attitude to how pliable he believes the American government is to satisfying Israel’s demands, making reference to comments he made nine years ago on Israeli television.

“America is something that can be easily moved. Moved in the right direction. … They won’t get in our way … Eighty percent of the Americans support us. It’s absurd,” said Netanyahu.

U. of Miami President Halted at Israeli Airport
University of Miami President Donna E. Shalala was detained and interrogated for two hours at Ben-Gurion Airport on her way back to the U.S. after a visit to Israel last month, according to the Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth. She was subjected to a "humiliating" security debriefing because of her Arab last name, the newspaper reports.

The former U.S. secretary of health and human services, under President Clinton, had been among a delegation of U.S. university presidents organized in part to protest the academic boycott of Israeli universities, and to discuss a new medical school being built in northern Israel as a joint venture between Miami and Israel's Bar-Ilan University.

Her hosts said they had told airport officials that she was expected. Ben-Gurion security officials said they had no record of the incident.

Ms. Shalala said after returning to the U.S. that she expected the joint venture to encourage more travel to Israel. "My hope is that faculty members will go back and forth, that students will go back and forth, that researchers will go back and forth, and to some extent that patients will go back and forth, because many of our patients spend considerable time in Israel," she told Miami Today.

UPDATE: Ms. Shalala issued the following statement about the incident after this article was published: "While I was inconvenienced, Israel's security and the security of travelers is far more important. I have been going in and out of Israel for many years and expect to visit again.”

The real question is whether the American public is too apathetic and trained into submission for that to ever happen."

or at least got half of his pay...ok a third...a quarter?...

how about enough for some new guitar strings?...lol

now I like mr greenwald just fine and for his work at that but I wonder how it is that it can tae so long to state the obvious and why it's more respected coming from approved sources?

you'd think that a thought could stand on it's own without papers of nobility and a herald...but no...it doesn't...

even that much free thinking is trained out of us by the carrot and stick of social engineering...

do you remember the first time you answered a simple math problem and had the other person check their calculator to see if you were right?...

even in the basic things we no longer trust our own abilities...

we sit here and post our ideas vicariously through 'approved' sources as if that will lend them legitimacy...while at the same time knowing that it's via 'approved' sources that all propoganda flows...

the art of argument and debate is long lost amongst those that the elite do not want to debate...

instead it's replaced with the herd mentality of "go along to get along"...you dare not criticise the rancher or the other cows will not like you any more...they'll mock you while on the ramp to the slaughter house...

because at least the rancher likes them better and might pay them a little better hay then you the outcast...

it's long past time to jump that fence and find your own sweet grass you stupid cow...

sure it'll be harder without the rancher throwing you hay
but that's what freedom truly is...

we in this country are not free...the ranchers that feed upon us are.

but I do wish I was smart like mr greenwald and got more hay...lol

"but why the focus on Christians"

Odd that you find connection there with Amused To Death...

Be that as it may though I'll accept your goad and see if I can voice some of my concerns with religion in general...

When you're taught to believe in what can not be seen and that it supercedes that which can be seen, thenyou risk slipping into delusion and denial of the physical world...

When you're taught to follow without question any doctrine that is interpretted by another while at the same time being discouraged from questioning said expoused doctrine, then you risk losing both your own will and responsibility for your actions...

When you're taught to believe that those that do not follow your way are somehow lesser than you, then you risk losing your own humanity as you more easily justify whatever evil happens to the other as their reward for failing to follow your way...

When you're taught that whatever evil you may commit in this life can simply be forgiven and rewarded by begging forgiveness of a deity and then going to a heaven, then you again risk losing your humanity by opening yourself up to doing evil yourself...

Skipping ahead...

All religions can, are and have been used to manipulate and control ppl....

All religions can, are and have been used to justify evil...

All religions can, are and have been used to promote a close mindeness, elitism and disdain for the human world...

All religions can, are and have been used to enrich it's proponents...

All religions can, are and have been used to create artificial divisions amongst mankind...much the same as the artifical divisions of race are also used...

All religions can, are and have been used as an emotional, intellectual and moral crutch by those that don't wish to take responsility or make the effort to control their own lives...

skipping ahead again...

I can not believe that any higher being worthy of worship would wish to be worshipped like some overly emotional child needing of approval...

I can not believe that any higher being would stoop to cruelty, death or eternal damnation to coerce those that it's professed were given free will into behaving in any particular manner at all...

I can not believe that any higher being would if after giving free will would then cruely ask that you give it up and blindly follow...

I can not believe that any higher being would ask me to stop questioning, learning or searching for answers on my own...

I could not do these things to another and I'm far from being a higher being...I would not treat a child or an animal in the fashion described by most religions...

There...have I stirred the pot enough yet for your satisfaction my fine goad?

... first we will deal with the use of the word "goad"... {NA} =

Dear Nobody ;D ... not amused, yet first must brew another near tankard of tea ;) to sip as I re-read some posts cuz I do so like the way you write.
;)

use of the word "goad"...

would you prefer either "shit disturbing pain in the ass" , "impish trouble maker" or simply "inspiring irritant"?

I'd've used "prick" or "prod" but those seem entirely too gender specific...

example...

I'm the old prick that get's prodded into subjects I'd rather skip over by impish trouble makers that are irritatingly inspiring of response and I'm often left with my shit disturbed and a pain in my ass for doing so...

Perhaps it was merely my confusion that allowed me too much room for interpretation of your post...

Tony Judt, scholar of European history, dies at 62

In his final public speech in October 2009, with breathing tubes in his nose, he questioned why American society seemed to be in decline and why the social advances of the 1960s, from racial justice to public broadcasting, were coming under threat.

"Why is it that here in the United States we have such difficulty even imagining a different sort of society from the one whose dysfunctions and inequalities trouble us so?" he asked from his wheelchair.

Mr. Judt's provocative writings about Israel, though only a small portion of his work, stirred the greatest amount of public dispute. In his youth, he had been an avowed Zionist and had lived in Israel. Over time, he changed his views and, by 1983, was writing that Israel was a "belligerently intolerant, faith-driven ethno state."

He incurred even greater ire with a 2003 essay in which he called for Israel to include Arabs and Jews equally as part of the government, or a "one-state solution." Three years later, he baldly declared, "The depressing truth is that Israel today is bad for the Jews."

Remember George Jackson!

To the Man-Child, Tall, evil, graceful, brighteyed, black man-child Jonathan Peter Jackson who died on August 7, 1970, courage in one hand, assault rifle in the other; my brother, comrade, friend the true revolutionary, the black communist guerrilla in the highest state of development, he died on the trigger, scourge of the unrighteous, soldier of the people; to this terrible man-child and his wonderful mother Georgia Bea, to Angela Y. Davis, my tender experience, I dedicate this collection of letters; to the destruction of their enemies I dedicate my life.

George L. Jackson

August 7, 1970, just a few days after George Jackson was transferred to San Quentin, the case was catapulted to the forefront of national news when his brother, Jonathan, a seventeen-year-old high school student in Pasadena, staged a raid on the Marin County courthouse with a satchelful of handguns, an assault rifle, and a shotgun hidden under his coat. Educated into a political revolutionary by George, Jonathan invaded the court during a hearing for three black San Quentin inmates, not including his brother, and handed them weapons. As he left with the inmates and five hostages, including the judge, Jonathan demanded that the Soledad Brothers be released within thirty minutes. In the shootout that ensued, Jonathan was gunned down. Of Jonathan, George wrote, "He was free for a while. I guess that's more than most of us can expect."

Spike Lee bashes US report on vanished Gulf oil

Filmmaker Spike Lee is calling a "lie" a U.S. government report that 75 percent of the spilled Gulf Coast oil is gone.

Speaking to a meeting of the Television Critics Association on Saturday, Lee said journalists should expose what he called the real story. He argued that it's unlikely that "abracadabra, presto chango" the vast majority of the oil has vanished from Gulf of Mexico waters and coastal wetlands.

Federal scientists said last week that nearly three-quarters of the oil has been removed by various artificial or natural means, but that the spill's effect on wildlife will long continue.

Slight Pressure on Israel?

Former HHS secretary questioned at Israeli airport
2 hours ago

MIAMI — A former secretary of the U.S. Health and Human Services Department says she was interrogated at the Ben-Gurion International Airport in Israel last month.

Donna Shalala, who is of Lebanese descent, is now the president of the University of Miami. She was visiting Israel in July as part of a delegation of university leaders invited by the American Jewish Committee's Project Interchange. Shalala stayed after the convention to meet with a group setting up a new medical school in Israel.

University spokeswoman Margot Winick said in an e-mail that Shalala was delayed as she was leaving Israel with security questions and a luggage search that took nearly 3 hours. But she didn't miss her flight.

Israeli airport authority officials said there was no record of the search.

You Can't Make This Stuff Up

You can't make this stuff up. The economy is in shambles, unemployment is at record levels and home foreclosures are soaring. Congress can't get it together to act on these issues. But there's growing momentum in Washington to—wait for it—slash Social Security?

Believe it. Republicans are campaigning on benefit cuts. Conservative Democrats like Steny Hoyer are echoing their talking points.1

Everyone's counting on the Deficit Commission to do the dirty work. The commission is stacked with conservatives who've embraced cutting Social Security, and both houses of congress promised to fast-track a vote on its recommendations.2 3 That means that even though no jobs bill can pass congress right now, Social Security cuts might.

To stop the cuts, we need to send a crystal-clear message to members of Congress: Americans reject benefit cuts, and we expect them to do the same. Can you sign our promise to oppose cuts to Social Security? We'll use your signature to pressure them to sign a pledge protecting Social Security while they're home in Oregon for recess. But we need a strong response to make our point. Click below to add your name:

http://pol.moveon.org/sspetition/index.html?id=22411-7905039-Mw2_cJx&t=3

The petition says: "I oppose any cuts to Social Security benefits, including raising the retirement age."
We're going to be running a hard-hitting campaign on this issue from now straight through the election. After you sign, we'll give you more opportunities to weigh in with your member of Congress, invite you to local events in your community, and keep you posted on our progress and key media reports on our campaign. Together with our allies, we'll make sure Congress knows that cutting Social Security is unacceptable.

The people who want to cut it are spreading lots of myths meant to make you think there is a looming crisis. Well, it's not true—there is no Social Security crisis. The program's trust fund will have a 4.3 trillion dollar surplus by 2023, and can pay all of its obligations for decades to come.4 Also, legally it can't contribute to the deficit—it only ever gives out benefits it can pay for.

Strengthening Social Security is easy—making the rich pay their fair share by lifting the cap on contributions by the wealthy would allow Social Security to pay all of its obligations indefinitely.5

Fear-mongering over Social Security is led by Pete Peterson, a hedge fund manager spending $1 billion of his own money in a campaign to slash benefits.6 Conservatives in congress have been too happy to join him—Minority Leader John Boehner said he would cut benefits to pay for two unfunded wars,7 and the GOP's long term budget plan would fully privatize the program.8

Social Security belongs to us, the people who pay into it every day of our working lives, and it shouldn't be cut to pay off a deficit it didn't create. If we show congress that voters won't stand for cuts to our benefits, we can make sure cuts stay off the table and instead focus on real solutions. Can you sign our promise to oppose cuts and then ask your representatives to sign on as well?

CBS 60 MINUTES SEGMENT ON ORTHODOX CHRISTIANITY AND ECUMENICAL

PATRIARCH BARTHOLOMEW TO REPEAT THIS SUNDAY

Aug 5, 2010

NEW YORK – The CBS 60 Minutes program on Orthodox Christianity featuring His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, the spiritual leader of 300 million Orthodox Christians who constitute the second largest Christian church in the world, which first aired on Sunday, December 20, 2009 will be repeated this Sunday, August 8 at 7 p.m. ET/PT. The segment focuses on the Orthodox Church, the most ancient Christian church, and its development from its earliest years to modern times in what is now the Republic of Turkey.

The Ecumenical Patriarch is in a unique position as a Christian leader in a Muslim environment. His All Holiness is the 270th successor to the see of St. Andrew the Apostle, who founded the 2000-year-old church of Constantinople (ancient Byzantium, modern Istanbul). Despite hostility from some elements of Turkish society, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew has been an outspoken supporter of Turkey’s modernization and acceptance into the European Union. He has also worked for reconciliation among Christian churches and cooperation among Christianity, Islam, Judaism, and indeed all faith communities.

His All Holiness brought about Muslim leaders’ first condemnation of the 9/11 attacks on America as anti-religious acts. He was named 11th among the world’s 100 most influential people by Time magazine and was awarded the US Congressional Gold Medal for his efforts to promote human rights and religious tolerance. He is the first international environmental leader recognized by the United Nations as a Laureate Champion of the Earth for his pioneering work to protect the environment. Affectionately known as “the Green Patriarch,” Patriarch Bartholomew has called upon leaders of all religious traditions to join him in this effort, noting simply “If life is sacred, so is the entire web that sustains it.”

His All Holiness made an historic extended visit to the U.S. last fall, where he participated in an environmental symposium in Mississippi, ministered to the five million Orthodox faithful in America, and met with President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and national religious leaders. He is the author of Encountering the Mystery (Doubleday) and In the World, Yet Not of the World (Fordham).

60 Minutes is the pre-eminent investigative television news show in the United States and has run on CBS since 1968. The show will also be broadcast on the 60 Minutes website: www.60minutes.com. A preview is available at this link.

More information about His All Holiness’s work for religious freedom, human rights, environmental conservation, and the Ecumenical Patriarchate as well as texts of his addresses may be found at: www.patriarchate.org

Too small a response to foreclosure crisis

But perhaps we should consider that the Wealth Consolidation Crowd loves this because they can snap up PROPERTY (that is, realworld 3-dimensional WEALTH) on the cheap.

First the Elite schemed to make a lot of on-paper-only phony 'riches'. Even though the basis of the Elite's recent riches has been nothing but financial abstractions for years (floating in the ethers stuff like junk bonds, bundling scams, derivatives, insurance betting, numbers games all, etcetera), with the collapse of a significant part of the real estate market (and, again, I emphasize the word 'real'), the Elite Predators can now move in and buy up all which the Middle Class once owned, so that The People are once again just the mass of non-owning wage slaves -- as The People were at the beginning of colonization of this continent.

When the Power Elite don't fix a problem like the Foreclosure Crisis, I sense they don't see it as a problem at all, but rather as a necessary step, and exactly what they want and need to accomplish their goals of Consolidating Real Wealth (paid for with the all abracadabra crime money supplemented by our bail-out money debt to the Central Banks!).

They are divesting the Middle Class of its wealth. Is it official policy or just under-the-table policy?

Anyway, the above is what the below article brought to mind...

HUD Comes Through with Another Too-Small Response to the Foreclosure Crisis
...

Fannie Mae is now predicting falling home prices into next year. The continuing rush of foreclosures adds to inventory and contributes to this collapse in the market. This leaves home builders on the sidelines, and crushes property values, putting more homeowners underwater. And the cycle repeats.

Clearly digging out of the foreclosure mess needs to be a top priority for anyone interested in returning the economy to strength. But the measures so far have either been too small or actively harmful. Treasury has tweaked their HAMP program endlessly but it’s still not working. They’re giving about $1 billion to troubled foreclosure states, and inducing principal modifications, but that’s not a big enough number. Now HUD has announced grants for foreclosure mitigation that again constitute a drop in the ocean.

The billionaire boys: Beware of geeks bearing gifts

The billionaire boys: Beware of geeks bearing gifts

by William Langley

Bill Gates, Warren Buffett and the world’s richest men are giving half their fortunes to charity – but there is a downside, says William Langley.

The biggest whip-round in history began on a relatively low-key note, when Bill Gates, generally reckoned to be the world’s richest man, suggested that his best pal Warren Buffett, the third-richest, should telephone all the other billionaires they knew, asking them to give away half their fortunes to charity.

By last week, Warren, having diligently worked his way through the annual Forbes magazine list of the richest Americans, had signed up at least 40 fellow plutocrats, with a combined worth of close to £150 billion. Portraying his work as “an easy sell”, the avuncular Buffett, long revered as the world’s greatest investor, predicted that many more would agree to chip in. Few of his primary targets, he said, had needed to be asked twice.

Yet a number of tough questions hang over the future of this colossal kitty. How will it be spent? Will it do any good? And might something other than pure-hearted philanthropy explain the apparent ease with which it was amassed?

The glow of richesse oblige in which the plutocrats are now bathed started to flicker in May 2009, when the initial members of this billionaire boys’ club sealed the deal over a lavish lunch. Appropriately, it was thrown by David Rockefeller, the 95-year-old head of the blue-chip New York oil-and-banking family. It was early in the last century that David’s grandfather, John D Rockefeller, the world’s first billionaire, received a now famous letter from his retiring financial eminence grise, one Frederick Gates. “I have lived with this great fortune of yours daily for 25 years,” wrote Gates. “To it, its increase and its uses I have given every thought, until it has become a part of myself, almost as if it were my own. Unless you give most of your money away, it will crush you, and your children, and your children’s children.”

On the topic of Orthodox religion

Is it true Orthodox Christianity is more 'mystical' than Catholicism? And what does that mean exactly?

http://www.religionfacts.com/christianity/denominations/orthodoxy.htm

[excerpt]

...

Distinctive Orthodox Beliefs
As in all of Christianity, doctrine is important in Eastern Orthodoxy. Orthodox Christians attach great importance to the Bible, the conclusions of the Seven Ecumenical Councils, and right ("orthodox") belief. However, the Eastern Churches approach religious truth differently than the Western Churches. For Orthodox Christians, truth must be experienced personally. There is less focus on the exact definition of religious truth and more on the practical and personal experience of truth in the life of the individual and the church. Precise theological definition, when it occurs, is for the purpose of excluding error.

This emphasis on personal experience of truth flows into Orthodox theology, which has a rich heritage. Especially in the first millenium of Christian history, the Eastern Church produced significant theological and philosophical thought.

In the Western churches, both Catholic and Protestant, sin, grace, and salvation are seen primarily in legal terms. God gave humans freedom, they misused it and broke God's commandments, and now deserve punishment. God's grace results in forgiveness of the transgression and freedom from bondage and punishment.

The Eastern churches see the matter in a different way. For Orthodox theologians, humans were created in the image of God and made to participate fully in the divine life. The full communion with God that Adam and Eve enjoyed meant complete freedom and true humanity, for humans are most human when they are completely united with God.

The result of sin, then, was a blurring of the image of God and a barrier between God and man. The situation in which mankind has been ever since is an unnatural, less human state, which ends in the most unnatural aspect: death. Salvation, then, is a process not of justification or legal pardon, but of reestablishing man's communion with God. This process of repairing the unity of human and divine is sometimes called "deification." This term does not mean that humans become gods but that humans join fully with God's divine life.

The Eastern Orthodox view of the Trinity also differs somewhat from that of the Christian West. In its Christology, Orthodoxy tends to emphasize the divine, preexistent nature of Christ, whereas the West focuses more on his human nature. However, both East and West affirm Christ's full humanity and full divinity as defined by the ecumenical councils. In fact, Christ's humanity is also central to the Orthodox faith, in the doctrine that the divine became human so that humanity might be raised up to the divine life.

The process of being reunited to God, made possible by Christ, is accomplished by the Holy Spirit. The Spirit plays a central role in Orthodox worship: the liturgy usually begins with a prayer to the Spirit and invocations made prior to sacraments are addressed to the Spirit.

It is in the view of the Holy Spirit that Orthodox theology differs from Western theology, and although the difference might now seem rather techinical and abstract, it was a major contributor to the parting of East from West in the 11th century. This dispute is known as the Filioque Controversy, as it centers on the Latin word filioque ("and from the Son"), which was added to the Nicene Creed in Spain in the 6th century. The original creed proclaimed only that the Holy Spirit "proceeds from the Father."

The purpose of the addition was to reaffirm the divinity of the Son, but Eastern theologians objected both to the unilateral editing of a creed produced by an ecumenical council and to the edit itself. For Eastern Christians, both the Spirit and the Son have their origin in the Father.

70% in NBC New York poll ‘furious’ at arrival of airport body

70% in NBC New York poll ‘furious’ at arrival of airport body scanners

(WOW! What are we dealing with here> Fear of harrassment, being violated, the fact that the naked body images will be stored, the radiation increases potential for cancer, and more ....)

------

NBC New York has reported the announcement that full body scanners will soon descend on JFK, Newark and LaGuardia airports, the major transportation hubs of the New York City metropolitan area.

However, an informal poll on NBC NY’s website shows that more than 70% of its local readers are “furious” at the announcement. Another 3% described their reaction as “sad.” Only 14% demonstrated any support for the measure. The overwhelming negative reaction is all the more telling in the context of NBC NY, an affiliate and very mainstream source that likely draws very typical readers. The response demonstrates a rejection of a technology that many critics say is an invasion of privacy, violates the 4th Amendment and may pose health risks.

After nine years of the so-called “War on Terror,” the TSA is fighting a public relations war to maintain support from increasingly frustrated passengers who must now cooperate with the additional measure of scanning.

clip

But the fear of harassment proves even more troubling than the dangers of the machine itself. The TSA has been caught lying about the fact that body scanners store a naked image of passengers’ bodies, despite previously claiming no image was stored. The “exposure” factor was also highlighted when a TSA employee attacked his co-worker after repeated jokes about his penis size prompted by daily displays of his genitals on the scanner’s monitor. Another TSA agent was arrested for substance abuse after declaring “I am God, I’m in charge.” Still another TSA agent was arrested after allegedly groping a 15-year old girl whom he’d asked to be his “sex slave.” Actress Christine Ebersole told Alex Jones in an April 2010 interview about a TSA encounter where she was partially strip-searched, touched and made to feel violated.

As for the dangers, scientists exposed the fact that airport body scanners are emitting 20x the radiation experts previously thought were occurring. Thus, they have warned that airport scanning increases the potential for cancer, particularly for certain types of skin cancer. Cumulative-radiation overdosing is also a potential risk for frequent flyers.

Poison Tap Water Exposed As Soft Kill Weapon

"If water fluoridation truly is a killer, then why is it still being added to the water supply? The truth is that only about 5% of the world is current fluoridated. Of the 5% that is fluoridated, 50% of them reside in the United States. Other countries have rejected fluoridation due to a wide variety of health concerns, with one primary factor being thyroid damage."

August 7, 2010

Water fluoridation has come to refer to the addition of over 40 chemicals into the water supply that synergistically come together to wreak havoc on the body and its processes. Paul Joseph Watson and Matt Ryan recently came together to expose what water fluoridation really amounts to: disease. Scientists and doctors around the world are speaking out against water fluoridation, and its effects on the human body.
Real or perceived danger?

If water fluoridation truly is a killer, then why is it still being added to the water supply? The truth is that only about 5% of the world is current fluoridated. Of the 5% that is fluoridated, 50% of them reside in the United States. Other countries have rejected fluoridation due to a wide variety of health concerns, with one primary factor being thyroid damage.

Studies have shown many times over that fluoride really does pose a threat to the body. Even if there were only a few studies proving that fluoride is harmful, then the government should act to protect the people. If the government felt that the studies were conducted improperly, then an independent investigation should be funded. There really is no excuse for not examining the issue further. Supporters of fluoridation would most likely argue that there is no necessity to investigate fluoridation further, and that there is no implication that fluoride is unsafe for general consumption.

The one Jab as discussed in this article is promoted as the latest and greatest since sliced bread.

Lets resist as hard as we can. The pacification of our citizens is already in process IMO. But we can't lose our sense of self-preservation, we just can't if we want to survive what is coming at us. "Fear" keeps us alive. It helps us fight back.

Jab that could put a stop to stress without slowing us down

Forget the age-old remedies of yoga, meditation or popping pills. Relieving chronic stress could soon be as simple as having an injection, according to scientists.

Academics say they are close to developing the first vaccine for stress - a single jab that would help us relax without slowing down.

After 30 years of research into cures for stress, Dr Robert Sapolsky, professor of neuroscience at Stanford University in California, believes it is possible to alter brain chemistry to create a state of 'focused calm'.

Brain Eating Vaccines to Some, Healthy Stress Reducers to Others

Brain Eating Vaccines to Some, Healthy Stress Reducers to Others

A Possible Vaccine Has Sparked a Debate Across the Health Establishment and Conspiracy Theorists.

There is a growing theory about brain eating vaccines spreading quickly across the Internet.

The theory, as described by Paul Joseph Watson at Prison Planet, is that the "media establishment", in conjunction with various world governments is planning to promote a vaccine that reduce stress and
produce a state of calm. A Stanford University neuroscience professor, Dr. Robert Sapolsky believes he is close to discovering a vaccine that would create, as he says, a state of 'focused calm', that would reduce stress, anger and anxiety.

The vaccine was described in the Daily Mail newspaper this week. The article in the Daily Mail focused on the health benefits of reducing stress, which is widely recognized as a cause for various serious diseases.

But many are not buying that the vaccine is simply for beneficial health reasons. As of late Tuesday afternoon, the term "brain eating vaccines" was the number one search, for example, on Google trends. Many apparently view the vaccine as a means for the so-called establishment to pacify people angry with their governments and their lives.

While there have been no mainstream sources that will go on record as saying that they believe the vaccine is actually of the brain eating variety, there are plenty of conspiracy minded sources on the Internet, such as the aforementioned Paul Joseph Watson, who believe that this is a means of submission by the so-called elites.

The vaccine, whether accurately described as 'brain eating vaccines' or not, is merely the latest instance of the ethical dilemmas that increasingly appear as medicine and technology race ahead of people's ability to process and understand the unintended consequences.

While it is highly likely that many if not all of the researchers were working with good and noble intentions in developing a stress reducing vaccine, there is of course the question of what happens if a drug eliminates, or at least reduces stress and fear; both vital parts of the human condition.

---Nora,
I just googled and there are lots of fluoride links coming up. You may find a better article discussing that particular subject.

You know, I bet many people still believe fluoride is good for your teeth. We did. I bet even our dentist still thinks so because I was told to buy a special fluoride toothpaste for use after bleaching. Guess I'll have to take a print-out along next time.

We have ordered a water filter (hope it works, wonder how my tea will taste with it) and I also decided to get a toothpaste without fluoride. My fav. paste does have it, of course.

P.S. I did hear that "they" along with the fluoride may add other toxins in the drinking water and in some paper lithium was talked about. I think I already mentiond that. Unbelievable. Our water filter can't come soon enough.

It is all the same to them.

A preliminary study published in the Archives of Neurology found heavy metals stack up in the brains of Alzheimer's patients. Another survey claimed a 90-percent plunge in cancer deaths during an 18-year follow-up of 59 patients treated with the chelating agent calcium-EDTA.[i]

American girls are hitting puberty earlier than ever — a change that puts them at higher risk for behavioral problems as adolescents and breast cancer as adults, a new study shows.
About 15% of 1,239 girls studied showed the beginnings of breast development at age 7, according to an article in today's Pediatrics. One in 10 white girls, twice as many as in a 1997 study, showed breast growth by that age, as did 23% of black girls and 15% of Hispanic girls.

The median age of breast development fell from 10.9 years in 1991 to 9.9 in 2006, according to a Danish study published in Pediatrics last year.

The new study doesn't explain why girls are developing earlier, but it did find heavier girls with a higher body-mass index were more likely than others to begin puberty early, says pediatrician Frank Biro, director of adolescent medicine at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.

A third of children are now overweight, and the early puberty trend could be related to the obesity epidemic, says Marcia Herman-Giddens of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. A growing number of researchers also are concerned about hormone-disrupting chemicals in the environment. Animal studies suggest that many environmental toxins can affect the age of puberty, although scientists aren't yet sure exactly how they affect people.

Suspect chemicals include pesticides used in farms and lawns, flame retardants found in furniture and electronics, and bisphenol A, or BPA, an estrogen-like ingredient found in plastic bottles, the linings of metal food and beverage cans, Biro says. He notes that researchers are collecting blood and urine samples from girls and will be able to analyze their exposure to toxins.

Animal and human studies suggest certain chemicals may affect male sexual development.

The herbicide atrazine, for example, has been shown to chemically "castrate" some male frogs and turn others into females able to lay eggs, according to a March study in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

And a 2008 study found that baby boys are more likely to have genital changes, such as undescended testicles and smaller penises, if they were exposed before birth to high levels of phthalates, hormone-disrupting chemicals found in medical tubing, vinyl and other products.

The chemical industry says these chemicals are safe and have never been definitively proven to harm humans.

Nicholas Negroponte: The Physical Book Is Dead In 5 Years
by MG Siegler on Aug 6, 2010
http://techcrunch.com/2010/08/06/physical-book-dead/

Today at the Techonomy conference in Lake Tahoe, CA, CNBC’s Maria Bartiromo sat down with a panel including Bill Joy, Kevin Kelly, Nicholas Negroponte, and
Willie Smits. The topic was basically the future of technology. And Negroponte had the most interesting (or at least the most controversial) thing to say.

The physical book is dead, according to Negroponte. He said he realizes that’s going to be hard for a lot of people to accept. But you just have to think about film and music. In the 1980s, the writing was on the wall that physical film was going to die, even though companies like Kodak were in denial. He then asked people to think about their youth with music. It was all physical then. Now everything has changed.

By “dead,” he of course doesn’t mean completely dead. But he means that digital books are going to replace physical books as the dominant form. His argument is related to his One Laptop per Child Foundation. On those laptops, he can include hundreds or thousands of books. If you think about trying to ship that many physical books to the emerging world for each child, it would be impossible, he reasons.

“People will say ‘no, no, no’ — of course you like your libraries,” Negroponte said. But he cited the report that sales of books for the Kindle recently surpassed sales of hardcover books.

“It’s happening. It not happening in 10 years. It’s happening in 5 years,” he said.

Twelve O'Clock - Fairy time

Through the house give glimmering light
By the dead and drowsy fire;
Every elf and fairy sprite
hop as light as bird from brier.

Now, until the break of day
Through this house each fairy stray.

Protections Restored!

Thanks to your ongoing support, Earthjustice has secured federal protections for the wolves of the northern Rockies. The hunts are off!

Support our Work

Dear XXX,

Protections have been restored for the gray wolves of the northern Rockies!

Just yesterday we learned that the Earthjustice team in Bozeman, Montana won a stunning victory for the wolves on behalf of a broad coalition of environmental groups.

On the basis of our team's expert work in court, a federal judge ruled that the wolves had been illegally stripped of their protections. Yesterday, he ordered that the northern Rockies wolves be placed back on the Endangered Species List. Because of this victory, wolf hunting in Idaho and Montana is off.

You and your fellow Earthjustice supporters and activists made this victory possible. Thanks to your support and participation in our efforts, Earthjustice has been relentless in our pursuit of justice for these wolves on the brink of recovery.

The court has sided with the law and science in this latest chapter of a conflict as old as our western settlements. But, sadly, anti-wolf sentiment runs deep in the region. And while we celebrate today, our team is preparing for the inevitable counter-attack by anti-wolf interests.

We want to see the wolves come off of the Endangered Species List—but only after they have recovered to the point where their survival is no longer in question and laws are in place to keep the population healthy. And we will not rest until they have.

Time and again, the states of Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming have sought to strip legal protections for wolves. And time and again we have defeated those efforts—thanks to your ongoing support.

Together, we are making a difference. Thanks for all that you do.

Sincerely,

Trip Van Noppen

Hurrah for Hugo Chavez

Hurrah for Hugo Chavez

By Mike Whitney

August 09, 2010 "Information Clearing House" -- It's no fun being on Washington's enemies list. Just ask Hugo Chavez. Last week, the Venezuelan president had to cancel a trip to Cuba after he was told that a coup was underway and his life was in danger. The information came from an anonymous source who had delivered a similar warning prior to the failed coup in 2002. The letter said: “The execution phase is accelerating..… There is an agreement between Colombia and the US with two objectives: one is Mauricio and the other is the overthrow of the government.… They will hunt down ‘Mauricio’ (and) try to neutralize part of the Armed Forces.” ("Venezuela Pushes for Peace", Coral Wynter, Green Left News)

“Mauricio” is Chavez's codename. Whoever is behind the coup, wants to kill Chavez.

There's no way of knowing whether Chavez is really in danger or not, but we shouldn't be too surprised if he is. After all, the US claims it has the right to kill anyone it sees as a threat to its national security, and Chavez surely ranks high on its list of threats. So it's wise to be careful. In any event, the warnings coincide with other unsettling developments. At a recent meeting of the Organization of American States (OAS), Colombian ministers charged Chavez with harboring guerrillas on Venezuelan territory. (The allegations could be used to justify a preemptive attack) Chavez reacted swiftly and broke off diplomatic relations with Colombia, but the row did not end there. Obama's nominee as US ambassador to Venezuela, Larry Palmer, threw a little gas on the fire by backing-up Colombia's claims. Now the two countries are at loggerheads which seems to be what the Obama administration had in mind from the very beginning. US policy towards Venezuela has changed at all under Obama. If anything, it's gotten worse.
US EXPANDS 7 BASES IN COLOMBIA

The Pentagon recently announced that it plans to expand 7 military bases in Colombia. State Dept officials said that the US merely wants to step up its counter-narcotics operations, but no one's buying it. Everyone knows the US wants to reestablish its control over the region. The military build up in Colombia is another way of ratcheting up the pressure on Chavez and fanning the flames of political instability in the hemisphere. Naturally, the base expansion has the region's leftist leaders worried that Latin America may be headed for another era of US-backed dirty wars.

Also, the internet is abuzz with stories that Obama is planning to deploy warships and ground troops to Costa Rica in the near-future. Here's an article on Alternet that lays out the basic theory:

so sick of...

I'm so sick of this "double dip recession" bullshit.
Let's just call it what it is: a mild depression. We are in a depression. Fucking deal with it, you children.
When the idiots of the '90s and the '00s took the tracks away from the train it... uuuuhhh... CRASHED.
And stop with this "Reagan this and that" bullshit. Reagan talked the game when he was with the mouth-breathers, but today people would consider him a "loony leftist."
CLINTON LIVED IT. CLINTON DOVE INTO THAT SHIT AND GORGED ON IT.
