Hi Mom.......send money!
ET home phone: Communication through channeling
Channeling in the simplest sense can be considered telepathic communication with spirit entities. Some theories point to the theta brain-wave state to account for the non-local transmission of information across the boundaries between the densities (see Can God, science and extraterrestrials coexist?)
Channeling has also been described as what artists call being ‘in the flow’ or what athletes call ‘the zone’. It is what painters used to call their ‘muse’ – what inspires them and what they allow to come through their body and produce works of art. Only the name is new – the concept is ancient. In the book Art & Fear, authors David Bayles and Ted Orland relay, “Plato maintained that all art is a gift from the gods, channeled through artists who are ‘out of their minds’ – quite literally, when making art.”
Jane Roberts began speaking for an entity that called itself ‘Seth’ and thus was born the Seth Material – a series of books spoken by Jane and written down by her husband Robert Butts. Starting in about 1963, Jane and Robert transcribed the spoken material from Seth, an energy personality essence no longer focused in physical reality. In many ways, Jane and Robert ushered in the modern era of channeling.
...
It is important to always ‘check in’ with material that is said to be channeled to see if it resonates with your beliefs. However, if the material does make sense and is helpful, then is the source really important?

Phil Jackson: The "Zen Master"
...
Jackson is known for his use of Tex Winter's triangle offense as well as a holistic approach to coaching that is influenced by Eastern philosophy, earning him the nickname "Zen Master". (Jackson cites Robert Pirsig's book Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance as one of the major guiding forces in his life.)
He also applies Native American spiritual practices as documented in his book "Sacred Hoops."
Motivational Techniques
One of Jackson's many accomplishments is that he succeeds like no other in keeping the ego's of superstars - like Michael Jordan, Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant - in check. He uses an array of motivational techniques for that. With the Chicago Bulls, Jackson sometimes replaced the training by a meditation session. Still he gives players specially chosen books for them to read during the long travels in the NBA.
The famous 'triangle offense', Jackson's offensive system, leaves the players a lot of freedom. The triangle doesn't require players to run into tight, studied patterns, but is a game of nuance, where attackers continuously react to the positions of their defenders and the movements of their teammates. It's a system that requires a lot of maturity from the executioners, for if a superstar - read: Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant - goes it alone too much, the triangle blocks.
Along with being called the "Zen Master," Jackson is known as the master of mind games. In the Laker film room before the 2000 playoffs, Jackson displayed images of Edward Norton's character from the movie American History X, who has a bald head and a tattoo of a swastika, alternating with photos with Sacramento's white, shaved-headed and tattooed point guard, Jason Williams. Jackson then displayed pictures of Adolf Hitler alternately appearing with Sacramento coach Rick Adelman. When Rick Adelman learned of this, he openly questioned Jackson's motivational techniques saying Jackson had "crossed the line." Nevertheless, the Lakers went on to win the series and the championship.

How mushrooms can save the world
http://blogs.creativeloafing.com/dailyloaf/2009/06/27/mushrooms-can-save...
Is this the same guy as the utube alice? yes [answer own ?]
Mushrooms can save the world, I think they can, and so does author Paul Stamets, who has dedicated the last 30 years proving so.
The basic science goes like this: microscopic cells called “mycelium” (the fruit of which are mushrooms) recycle carbon, nitrogen, and other essential elements as they break down plant and animal material in the creation of rich new soil. What Stamets has discovered is that we can capitalize on mycelium’s digestive power and target it to decompose toxic wastes and pollutants (mycoremediation), catch and reduce silt from steambeds and pathogens from agricultural watersheds (mycofiltration), control insect populations (mycopesticides), and generally enhance the health of our forests and gardens (mycoforestry and mycogardening). He goes into this science in a great TED talk he did, “6 Ways Mushrooms Can Save the World”.

For Good
For Good
excerpt from Wicked
I've heard it said
That people come into our lives for a reason
Bringing something we must learn
And we are led
To those who help us most to grow
If we let them
And we help them in return
Well, I don't know if I believe that's true
But I know I'm who I am today
Because I knew you...
Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
But because I knew you
I have been changed for good
It well may be
That we will never meet again
In this lifetime
So let me say before we part
So much of me
Is made of what I learned from you
You'll be with me
Like a handprint on my heart
And now whatever way our stories end
I know you have re-written mine
By being my friend...

Sunday Morning Newser round-up
Hi ho Sederville! Hope your Independence week-end is going smoothly! We went to the local fireworks show after some serious grilling. My daughter came up from Kamp Lejune with g-baby (NOW 2!) and her new BF, who did TWO stints in Iraq (he's got only a few months before he's out). We got a front-n-center spot for the fireworks show, and it was loud and bright. Daughter told me she didn't think BF took to it too well, as he held g-son the whole time with his head pressed against and shielding g-son. And this was his first time seeing fireworks since he's been back. Weird. They have to be back Monday, so I don't think tomorrow's b-fast bon voyage would be a good time to bring it up.
Anyway, if you're interested, check out this week's talking heads line-up at

Thomas Paine - the American Crisis
THESE are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives every thing its value. Heaven knows how to put a proper price upon its goods; and it would be strange indeed if so celestial an article as FREEDOM should not be highly rated. Britain, with an army to enforce her tyranny, has declared that she has a right (not only to TAX) but "to BIND us in ALL CASES WHATSOEVER," and if being bound in that manner, is not slavery, then is there not such a thing as slavery upon earth. Even the expression is impious; for so unlimited a power can belong only to God.
Whether the independence of the continent was declared too soon, or delayed too long, I will not now enter into as an argument; my own simple opinion is, that had it been eight months earlier, it would have been much better. We did not make a proper use of last winter, neither could we, while we were in a dependent state. However, the fault, if it were one, was all our own*; we have none to blame but
ourselves. But no great deal is lost yet. All that Howe has been doing for this month past, is rather a ravage than a conquest, which the spirit of the Jerseys, a year ago, would have quickly repulsed, and which time and a little resolution will soon recover.
* The present winter is worth an age, if rightly employed; but, if lost or neglected, the whole continent will partake of the evil; and there is no punishment that man does not deserve, be he who, or what, or where he will, that may be the means of sacrificing a season so precious and useful.
I have as little superstition in me as any man living, but my secret opinion has ever been, and still is, that God Almighty will not give up a people to military destruction, or leave them unsupportedly to perish, who have so earnestly and so repeatedly sought to avoid the calamities of war, by every decent method which wisdom could invent.
Neither have I so much of the infidel in me, as to suppose that He has relinquished the government of the world, and given us up to the care of devils; and as I do not, I cannot see on what grounds the king of Britain can look up to heaven for help against us: a common murderer, a highwayman, or a house-breaker, has as good a pretence as
he.

I grew up watching the Muppets, and I couldn't have asked for a better "weirdo uncle" than Jim Henson. The man was a saint, IMO... Outside of my parents, I'd say that Jim Henson was the primary influence on my sense of morality.

The largest Charity in the world. The Vatican
Economic crisis hitting everywhere
by Chris in Paris on 7/05/2009 05:26:00 AM
When you see the riches at the Vatican, it's hard to imagine any financial difficulties but mismanagement of all kinds run deep in that organization. It's probably asking too much to ask the Prada wearing Pope to trim expenses. Vow of poverty this.
The Vatican said Saturday it ran a deficit in 2008 as its finances and donations from across the world were hit by the global economic crisis.
The Vatican posted a budget deficit for a second straight year, though the figures improved strongly from 2007. The Holy See's 2008 deficit was around euro0.9 million ($1.28 million), compared with a loss of euro9.06 million a year earlier.
The financial report released Saturday by the Holy See's press office listed revenues of euro253.9 million and expenses for euro254.8 million.
Most of expenses went to support the activities of Pope Benedict XVI and the Holy See's offices, especially Vatican Radio and other media divisions, the report said.

Despite Obama’s Demand,
Despite Obama’s Demand, Outside Groups Will Keep Pounding Dem Senators
President Obama may have issued a private demand that groups allied with the White House stop hammering moderate Democratic Senators with health care ads, but those groups have no intention to listen to him.
In fact, not only do the groups plan to continue their ads, spokespeople for the groups tell me, but one is actually increasing its buy.
Over the weekend, the Washington Post reported that Obama had privately told Congressional Dems he’s concerned about TV and online campaigns hitting moderate Democrats for not getting fully behind the public health care option. “We shouldn’t be focusing resources on each other,” Obama reportedly said.
The response from the groups: That’s nice, but we ain’t stopping.
A spokesperson for the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, one of the groups Obama reportedly complained about, confirms to me that the group is upping its buy with a new round of ads attacking moderate Dem Senators like Ben Nelson and Mary Landrieu this coming week. “If congressional staffers are complaining to the White House, that shows they are nervous and what we’re doing is working,” PCCC’s Stephanie Taylor says. “So we should just keep doing what we’re doing.”
Meanwhile, a second group, Change Congress, has not dropped plans for a coming campaign of ads attacking the Senators for taking contributions from health care special interests, Change Congress spokesperson Adam Green confirms. He urged the White House to consider a “good cop, bad cop approach,” suggesting Obama could hold positive rallies in the home states of moderate Dem Senators while Change Congress goes ahead with its ads.
Meanwhile, there are no indications MoveOn plans to drop its pressure campaign. If Obama did indeed complain about the efforts by outside groups, it’s unclear why. Obama himself has strongly backed a public option, and it seems obvious that pressure from the left on Dem Senators not to waver on this priority can only help the White House.
***************************************
Update: Jane Hamsher reports that a third group, Democracy For America, won’t pull its ads, either.
Update II: It doesn’t look like Americans United for Change will refrain from targeting moderate Dems, either. From AUC spokesperson Jeremy Funk: “We will be encouraging everyone in Congress to support serious health care reform as outlined by the President.”
Update III: Still more: Blue America is forging forward with ads targeting Senator Blanche Lincoln.

Untold Truths About the American Revolution
Who actually gained from that victory over England?
Do you think the Indians cared about independence from England? No, in fact, the Indians were unhappy that we won independence from England, because England had set a line-in the Proclamation of 1763-that said you couldn't go westward into Indian territory......
Did blacks benefit from the American Revolution?
Slavery was there before. Slavery was there after. Not only that, we wrote slavery into the Constitution. We legitimized it.
What about class divisions?
Did ordinary white farmers have the same interest in the revolution as a John Hancock or Morris or Madison or Jefferson or the slaveholders or the bondholders? Not really.
It was not all the common people getting together to fight against England. They had a very hard time assembling an army. They took poor guys and promised them land. They browbeat people and, oh yes, they inspired people with the Declaration of Independence. It's always good, if you want people to go to war, to give them a good document and have good words: life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Of course, when they wrote the Constitution, they were more concerned with property than life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
You should take notice of these little things.

Social Security Numbering
Social Security Numbering System Vulnerable to Fraud, Experts Say
By JOHN MARKOFF
The nation’s Social Security numbering system has left millions of citizens vulnerable to privacy breaches, according to researchers at Carnegie Mellon University, who for the first time have used statistical techniques to predict Social Security numbers solely from an individual’s date and location of birth.
The findings, published Monday in The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, are further evidence that privacy safeguards created in the era before powerful computers and ubiquitous networks are increasingly failing, setting up an “architecture of vulnerability” around personal digital information, the researchers said.
The researchers, Alessandro Acquisti, an associate professor of information technology and public policy, and Ralph Gross, a postdoctoral researcher, noted that there were a range of implications from the research, including that it was now possible to routinely reconstruct sensitive personal information from the type of online postings frequently found on social networking sites and other public sources.
The authors write that the predictability of Social Security numbers is “an unexpected consequence of the interaction between multiple data sources, trends in information exposure and antifraud policy initiatives with unintended effects.”
Identify theft is a global problem that has been greatly exacerbated by the rise of the Internet. Social Security numbers are widely used for identification and authentication, and are sold both by digital information aggregators and on black markets set up for the purpose of identity theft.
The accuracy with which it is possible to correctly predict an individual Social Security number varies both with the state in which a person was born and the date when the number was assigned, according to the researchers.
By testing their algorithm on a half million publicly available records in the Social Security Administration’s Death Master File, the researchers were able to identify statistical patterns that then permitted extrapolating to the country’s living population, making it possible — in principle — to identify millions of Social Security numbers for individuals whose birth date and location were publicly available.
“This report is a wake-up call,” said Peter Swire, a law professor at Ohio State University who served as the Clinton administration’s chief privacy counselor. “Social Security numbers are an aging technology, and we have to do serious planning for what will come next.”
From the researchers’ sample, it was possible to identify in a single try the first five digits for 44 percent of deceased individuals who were born after 1988 and for 7 percent of those born from 1973 to 1988. It was possible to identify all nine digits for 8.5 percent of those born after 1988 in fewer than 1,000 attempts.
The accuracy of the prediction system increased for smaller states and for people born after 1988. The accuracy was higher for those born in the late 1980s and after because of rules that led increasingly to the assignment of Social Security numbers at birth. The researchers, for example, reported that they needed 10 or fewer tries to predict all nine digits for 1 out of 20 Social Security numbers assigned in Delaware in 1996. More...

BarbinMD points out that it's no surprise that Democratic Senator Max Baucus (D-MT) is opposed to the public option. It seems his staff has been caught busily scheming away with big pharmaceutical lobbyists who just happen to have worked as Baucus' own chiefs of staff.
Conflict of interest much?

The Contents of the Fitzgerald-Cheney Interview, Annotated Edition

Since there is still some confusion over the material from Dick Cheney's interview with Patrick Fitzgerald that, DOJ says, cannot be made public, I decided to provide a more detailed description of what was in the interview with handy links for any media outlets that are too busy selling access to lobbyists to do their own work. What follows are the page-specific references in the DOJ FOIA response to material that appears in the FBI report of the interview. That document is 28 pages long, total, so this is a pretty good outline of what's in the interview. I treat information that appears on the same page together, so a couple of these descriptions cover a number of separate issues raised in the filing.
Vice President's discussion of the substance of a conversation he had with the Director of the CIA concerning the decision to send Ambassador Wilson on a fact-finding mission to Niger in 2002. (Page 3, lines 15-17, 21-28); The name of a covert CIA employee (Page 3)
As you recall, Libby first learned of Valerie Plame's covert identity from a conversation with Dick Cheney some time during the week of June 9, 2003. He recorded his conversation with Cheney in a note which was a central focus of Libby's grand jury testimony. When asked, Libby said Cheney may have learned of Valerie's status from Tenet. And, when Fitzgerald was questioning Libby about Cheney's notations on Joe Wilson's op-ed, Libby explained that Cheney had asked Tenet earlier in June or July about the CIA sending ambassadors to gather information.
Q. When the Vice President asked you the question, "have they done this type of thing before," question to that effect, Vice -- did the Vice President ever ask you has the Agency ever done this sort of thing before where an ambassador was sent out?
A. I think he may have at some point.
Q. And what did you do in response to that question, if anything?
A. I don't know if I did anything particularly about it. I think he may have taken it up with, with Tenet rather than asking me.
[snip]
Q. What did he talk to the official that you do know he talked about?
A. About, you know, how this came about. I have a sense that he had talked to Tenet or somebody about, about that.
Q. And what time frame was that?
A. Summer, June, July, something like that.
In other words, this conversation appears to be the conversation Cheney had during the week of June 9 in which he learned of Plame's identity. That makes the reference to "a covert CIA employee's identity" all the more interesting. While that might be a reference to Valerie's colleague who first suggested sending Joe, it might well be a reference to Valerie herself. While we know the CIA still wants to hide details of Plame's career, it would be the height of absurdity if CIA tried to prevent us from seeing Fitzgerald ask Cheney about Plame.
In any case, DOJ is probably attempting to prevent us from learning of Cheney's account of how he learned of Plame's identity before he passed it on to Scooter Libby.
