Day two of vacation (kinda day 4 or something since I was off some days last week too)

Finally semi-relaxed. It sucks that the American Worker cannot have a siesta during the day..it takes many days of lots of sleep to catch up when using "vacation time"...

I'm re-reading William Burroughs The Cat Inside, because when I sat down to read my new Contemporary Anarchist Studies book, it hurt my brain....I need to get mellow like jello, maaaaaaan...on the taxpayer's dime apparently...

My vacation this week is going really slowly..time is on my side it seems like now...

P is all sore from surgery, but not from where they did it, from his arthritic hips because he doesn't know how they 'put him' on the operating table after he fell asleep. Reminded us (of course) about this:

Elaine: "....Maybe you were still under the gas.Maybe you were hallucinating

you're coming out of the gas but you were still under the gas."

Jerry: "I don't think so. I think they were getting dressed and not only

that; my shirt was out!!!"

Elaine: "your shirt was out?"

Jerry: "I think so."

Elaine: "Well, what kind of shirt was it.?"

Jerry: "You know! Like a tennis shirt."

Elaine: "Oh! Well ... You don't tuck those in?"

Jerry: "Sometimes I tuck'em sometimes I don't"

Elaine: "Well. Were you tucked?"

Jerry: "I think I was tucked.!"

Elaine: "All right then say you were. I mean .. what do you think could have happened.?"

Jerry: "I don't know but I was spitting out and rinsing like there was no tomorrow."

"The Western Lands" by William S. Burroughs

One of the rarest of all spirits, and the most difficult to see, is the Deercat, half deer and half cat. The grass-eater and the flesh-eater are united in this spirit. It is a bright green color with the head and horns of a deer and the claws of a cat. It can climb trees and run with great speed. It can eat flesh or grass at will. When it eats flesh, it has the teeth of a cat. When it eats grass, it has the teeth of a deer. It can be seen only in forest glens in a black-green light, tornado green.

For the Deercat is a spirit of tornados and whirlwinds, with the agility and strength of a cat and the speed of a deer. It's eyes are green-black and crackle with lightning. It has the power to move any weight of despair and hopelessness, of fear and apathy and death. Once evoked, all the weight of black magic and negative forces are whirled back to the source and sucked up into a black funnel. There are no words to evoke this spirit, only emptyness.

You must find a small, round glade surrounded by bushes and trees, but open at the top. In the center of the glade place a barometer of crystal on a pyramid of black stones. The stones are smooth and polished with dream semen. Stand now at the northern edge of the glade. Empty all thought and all feeling, voiding thought and feeling out through the tail of the spine. This will leave you a skeleton of crystal bone. As the flesh melts into moss the temperature will drop 20 degrees in 23 seconds and the barometer will drop and drop and finally implode in black light. Then you will see the Deercat, in the green-black tornado light.

He stands there for a second arrested in time. Then you will hear the wind whistling through the trees with a cat's whine rising to a shriek as the black stones break free and whirl around the Deercat. Sky and trees, lake and river, are pulled into the whirling funnel. Not one stone will be left standing on another. The Deercat is the spirit of total revolution and total change. The Deercat is the spirit of the Black Hole.

Reading Rigor Mortis

During a break in the filming for the music video “Just One Fix” by Ministry, William Burroughs bought some books and magazines, and made himself comfortable off on the side of the studio with the sci-fi book Rigor Mortis by Mary Kittredge. Lawrence, Kansas, September 25, 1992.

My take Ray was handing over the torch to the better song writer. For Ray, who was known to be very difficult it was the ultimate pat on the back.

THE BARS CLOSE AT THREE A.M. ON SATURDAY nights so I got home about 3:45 after eating breakfast at Riker's on the corner of Christopher Street and Seventh Avenue. I dropped the News and Mirror on the couch and peeled off my seersucker coat and dropped it on top of them. I was going straight to bed.

At this point, the buzzer rang. It's a loud buzzer that goes through you so I ran over quick to push the button and release the outside door. Then I took my coat off the couch and hung it over a chair so no one would sit on it, and I put the papers in a drawer. I wanted to be sure they would be there when I woke up in the morning. Then I went over and opened the door. I timed it just right so that they didn't get a chance to knock.

Four people came into the room. Now I'll tell you in a general way who these people were and what they looked like since the story is mostly about two of them.

Phillip Tourian is seventeen years old, half Turkish and half American. He has a choice of several names but prefers Tourian. His father goes under the name of Rogers. Curly black hair falls over his forehead, his skin is very pale, and he has green eyes. He was sitting down in the most comfortable chair with his leg over the arm before the others were all in the room.

This Phillip is the kind of boy literary fags write sonnets to, which start out, "O raven-haired Grecian lad. . ." He was wearing a pair of very dirty slacks and a khaki shirt with the sleeves rolled up showing hard muscular forearms.

Ramsay Allen is an impressive-looking gray-haired man of forty or so, tall and a little flabby. He looks like a down-at-the-heels actor, or someone who used to be somebody. Also he is a southerner and claims to be of a good family, like all southerners. He is a very intelligent guy but you wouldn't know it to see him now. He is so stuck on Phillip he is hovering over him like a shy vulture, with a foolish sloppy grin on his face.

Al is one of the best guys I know, and you couldn't find better company. And Phillip is all right too. But when they get together something happens, and they

form a combination which gets on everybody's nerves.

Agnes O'Rourke has an ugly Irish face and closecropped black hair, and she always wears pants. She is straightforward, manly, and reliable. Mike Ryko is a nineteen-year-old, red-haired Finn, a sort of merchant seaman dressed in dirty khaki.

Well, that's all there were, the four of them, and Agnes held up a bottle.

"Ah, Canadian Club," I said. "Come right in and sit down," which they all had anyway by this time, and I got out some cocktail glasses and everyone poured himself a straight shot. Agnes asked me for some water which I got for her.

Phillip had some philosophical idea he had evidently been developing in the course of the evening and now I was going to hear about it. He said, "I've figured out a whole philosophy on the idea of waste as evil and creation as good. So long as you are creating something it is good. The only sin is waste of your potentialities."

That sounded pretty silly to me so I said, "Well of course I'm just a befuddled bartender, but what about Lifebuoy soap ads, they're creations all right."
