BRL producer Brendan McDonald responds to Sam's status on BRL...

Response on Facebook from BRL producer Brendan McDonald:

Brendan McDonald at 5:26pm May 19

Hi.

Sam is still on every single show. Marc is handling the live portion of the program. Overall, we are incorporating much more taped material into the show from both Marc and Sam. Our tweaked format helps us facilitate this.

There's no secret about where Sam is. Today, for instance, he was taping a segment where he was appearing on Ken Pittman's show. He was doing this during our Post-Show Chat, an assignment that we openly talked about on the Post-Show Chat. ... Read More

If Sam has lost interest in the show, someone better tell that to Sam. It would probably put a stop to him running around and taping field pieces and would save money on the equipment he's been outfitted with to do more remote material. If only he knew he lost interest in the show, he probably wouldn't have run up to me at 4:15 today, excited out of his mind, over how he just taped a full half hour of himself on Ken Pittman's radio show and how he can't wait to air it tomorrow.

Finally, the format change was a show decision, not an Air America decision. This is the direction that everyone involved with the show prefers. I will repeat that. This is the direction that EVERYONE INVOLVED WITH THE SHOW prefers. There is no discussion afoot to cancel Break Room Live.

We're always happy to talk with you ... Read Moreabout the show. Sam and Marc are completely accessible and can be reached through IM, Twitter, email - breakroomlive@gmail.com - or right here on this page. We couldn't hide from any of you if we tried.

OK

Thanks jdavidlara, that clarifies things.

Brendan, this kind of nonchalance...

...shows little respect for the role your audience/viewers play in this 'new' kind of show.

So you have a show that is roughly 50/50 co-hosted by Marc and Sam - while sitting side by side in a break room. You called "Break Room Live". The banter between the hosts and the interaction with the audience is played up from the outset.

Now you "change the format" so that Marc is now the ONLY one live. This live time currently accounts for about 90% of the show and 100% of the post show chat. Sam doesn't have a way to engage in on-air discussion with either Marc or with the audience. The pre-recorded bits that Sammy does are jarringly unconnected to what Marc is talking about.

Are you surprised that dropping this "format change" on us is something the audience is surprised/pissed off about? In this 2.0 world, was Sam's connection to the audience considered in this decision?

I'm baffled

I don't believe this,

I don't believe this, "jdavidlara" (if this is your REAL name).

When I played the Ken Pittman Show intro backward it clearly says: "We buried Sam"!!!

EXPLAIN THAT!!!

wow...good point

wow...good point bingo...

Chubby...that's funny

Sam

has made a powerful enemy in Ken Pittman, who had him offed.

Sorry

I can take Marc in small doses but I have been a Sam fan since day one and I like his rants.

The show isn't the same for me.

MARON...

is a corporate ass-licker

and Brendan McDonald is maron's ass-licker

bingo! bingobingo

I have to agree with the befuddlement, and talking to us about it like we're children doesn't help. I am glad Sam is happy with the arrangement, it just left those of us who like what Sam does, especially in the post show, befuddled and disappointed. I just wish someone would address why a change like this was warranted-if it was because Sam had had enough of the old format, so be it. We'll handle it. Great that Sam is running around doing things, but why did he have to disappear from the live show? While your note is amusing, Brendan, it really doesn't explain much, except that Sam hasn't lost interest. What is the purpose of the format change specifically? (I've heard the 'ready for tv' line and it doesn't clarify anything)

We want Marc AND Sam

I love Sam, I love Marc, but most of all I love the two of them together. Of course people are going to do what they want, but damn, I'm sorry the show is taking this turn after only a few months of great political humor and commentary. Their interaction was what made me tune in every day. Now, not so much, no matter how many little films each of them makes.

does that jdavidlara will work for you?

does that jdavidlara will work for you? really, i don't believe this. by testking 642-504 and testking 642-524
