He's talking about Pakistan- not a vietnamese prison. That said- why would anyone believve this guy who was 5th from his class in the naval academy, craned because of his admiral father into a job flying bombers, crashed 5 naval planes, spent most of the war in prison, know how to win a war. Being a 5 time plane crasher and a POW may be admirable but it doesn't seem like the first thing you look for if you want to win a war. |

Good Point
I agree with this. The silence from the Clintons, and Obama surrogates is deafening.

Good Question
From TPM Reader WS:
Here in Wisconsin, one of the heads of the "Palin Truth Squad", former Lt. Gov. Margaret Farrow is giving interviews, outraged over the lipstick comment. The state GOP has called a 1:30 press conference where a group of GOP women will rip into Obama for all of the assembled TV cameras.
My question... where the hell are the Democrats on this? Not just here, but nationally, they are letting Obama get bloodied over this. Where is Biden? Is he turning into this cycle's Edwards? Where are Pelosi and Boxer and Sebelius today?
The campaign needs to stop forcing Obama to take on the entire right-wing... His organization in every state should have high-profile surrogates out there today ripping into McCain and Palin, not just on the lipstick, but on the the sex ed ad and the judge's order for Palin to stay out of the divorce.
Where are these people?

The silence from the Clintons, and Obama surrogates is deafening
is it or is the msm not providing coverage?
>>Obama sends his two
>>Obama sends his two daughters to private school at $20K/year.
>>Palin's kids: Alaska public schools.
What's your point? that Obama wants the best for his kids while Palin's unsupervised are kids free to get pregnant at 14 and go on violent vandalism rampages?

The End.
No Sam,
it's not what we look for to inspire us that he knows how to win a war. Hell, he can't win an election unless he hides behind a pig in a dress.
Palin Bilked State of Tens of Thousands of Dollars
Palin Bilked State of Tens of Thousands of Dollars
http://sarahpalinexposed.com/?p=500
Sarah Palin is billing herself as a reformer who has cut wasteful spending in her own state and is now ready to do the same in Washington.
The Washington Post, however, is now reporting that Gov. Palin is also in the habit of billing her state for lodging when she’s spending nights in her own house and for her family’s travel expenses.
Palin, who earns a salary of $125,000 a year, has claimed “per-diem” allowances totalling $16,951 over a period of 19 months since she’s been in office. Per diem allowances are supposed to cover meals and incidental expenses when officials travel on state business. Palin, though, used allowance claims to bill the state for over 312 nights spent at her own house in Wasilla. In submitting her claims she referred to “Lodging - own residence” or “Lodging - Wasilla residence” over 30 times. It’s not clear at all how she construed spending the night in her own home as official state business. In fact, at some point, it seems she recognized the unseemly nature of her claims and added twenty-four amendments to the allowance reports. She took care to delete all lodging-related references in these amendments. Dropping her claims altogether did not occur to her. Due to her privileged position as governor, Palin’s claims for reimbursement all went unchallenged.
Palin also requested reimbursement of travel expenses in the amount of $43,490 for her children and her husband. Alaska’s state finance director Kim Garnero explained, “We cover the expenses of anyone who’s conducting state business. I can’t imagine kids could be doing that.” Most of the trips were between the family residence in Wasilla and the state capital Juneau. Here’s some background: the Alaska State Legislature is in regular session for only 90 days in a year, beginning in January. Special sessions of 30 days can be convened only by a two-thirds majority in each house. Palin has to be in Juneau only when the legislature is in session. For most of the year, she stays in Wasilla and commutes to work in Anchorage. She can’t commute from Wasilla to Juneau because the distance is about 600 miles. So what happened? Well, she invited her family to come visit her as often as they could and had the state pay for their travel expenses.
Of course, Palin also routinely billed the state for her family’s travel expenses when she took them with her on out-of-state trips. Wherever Palin goes, her family has to go with her and the state is made to pay for them as well. For example, in October 2007, “she took her daughter Bristol with her to New York City, where she attended Newsweek’s third annual Women and Leadership Conference, toured the New York Stock Exchange and met local officials and business executives.” The state paid for the whole trip, including three nights in a $707-a-day luxury hotel room. Sure sounds like a fun trip.
In some cases, Palin’s husband billed the state for travel he did on his own. For instance, state records show that Todd Palin was reimbursed $1,016 for a trip to Edmonton, Alberta (in Canada). The reason cited in the reimbursement request was “information gathering and planning meeting with Northern Alberta Institute of Technology.”
And that’s still not all. Palin also uses state funds for personal trips. The Anchorage Daily News reported yesterday that Palin billed the state for a trip from Juneau to her former church in Wasilla to speak at the Master’s Commission graduation. (Videos of her June 8 speech there are posted on this site.) The state had to pay $519.50 for her round-trip plane tickets and Palin claimed $120 for meals and other expenses.
By now, it should have become clear that Palin does not hesitate to take full advantage of state coffers. So much for cutting down on wasteful spending.

Here's the National Enquirer on Palin's son....
Just reporting.
Enquirer: Palin's Son Addicted to Painkillers
Sarah Palin’s Iraq-bound 19-year-old son, Track, was addicted to the painkiller OxyContin and binged on cocaine before joining the army last year, the National Enquirer reports. The supermarket tab also claims the Alaska governor kicked 17-year-old daughter Bristol—also supposedly a party animal—out of the house and made her switch schools when she learned of the teen's unexpected pregnancy.
“I’ve partied with (Track) for years. I’ve seen him snort cocaine, snort and smoke OxyContin, drink booze and smoke weed," a source told the tabloid, adding Track also convinced other boys to steal for him. "He finally did what a lot of troubled kids here do, you join the military.”

You're both right....
Obama's responses must be measured and not in excess of the attacks he is receiving.
They will ratchet up the crassness of their attacks because they have no choice. As long as Obama continues to hit back, without going overboard, he will be able to defuse the effectiveness of their lies without coming off as being the aggressor.

Saradise Lost - Book Two, Chapter One -- Aw, Shit!!! -- This Changes Everything...
http://progressivealaska.blogspot.com/ (2nd Post)
It really does change everything.. I suppose Charlie Gibson might even have to bring it up:
from the National Enquirer Tease Press Release (article comes out tomorrow):
The ENQUIRER has learned exclusively that Sarah's oldest son, Track, was addicted to the power drug OxyContin for nearly the past two years, snorting it, eating it, smoking it and even injecting it. And as Track, 19, heads to Iraq as part of the U.S. armed forces, Sarah and her husband Todd were powerless to stop his wild antics, detailed in the new issue of The ENQUIRER, which goes on sale today.
THE ENQUIRER also has exclusive details about Track's use of other drugs, including cocaine, and his involvement in a notorious local vandalism incident.
“I’ve partied with him (Track) for years,” a source disclosed. “I’ve seen him snort cocaine, snort and smoke OxyContin, drink booze and smoke weed.”
The source also divulged the girls would do anything for Track and he’d use his local celebrity to manipulate other guys “to get them to steal things he wanted.”
“He finally did what a lot of troubled kids here do,” the source divulged. “You join the military.”
And as Gov. Palin has billed the state of Alaska for various expenses related to her children, as reported by The Washington Post, The ENQUIRER's investigation reveals that she was so incensed by 17-year-old Bristol's pregnancy that she banished her daughter from the house.
Another family friend revealed pre-prego Bristol was as much of a hard partier as Track was.
“Bristol was a huge stoner and drinker. I’ve seen her smoke pot and get drunk and make out with so many guys. All the guys would brag that the just made out with Bristol.”
When Sarah found out the teen was pregnant by high schooler Levi Johnston, she was actually banished from the house. As part of the cover-up, Palin quickly transferred Bristol to another high school and made her move in with Sarah’s sister Heather 25 miles away!
And the ENQUIRER also learned that Levi Johnston, the baby mamma’s future wedded dada, who was glad handed by John McCain at the GOP Convention, isn’t too happy about his impending shotgun nups either.
“Levi got dragged out of the house to go to Minnesota,” Levi’s friend told The ENQUIRER. “Levi realizes he’s stuck being with Bristol because her mom is running for Vice President.”
The friend also confided that both Bristol and Levi “broke up a few times and they definitely messed around with other people.”
Meanwhile, as members of the Palin family’s war viciously over “Trooper-Gate” and claims of Sarah’s extramarital affair have turned the political race into a chaotic arena of threats, denials and vicious attacks by political black ops, The ENQUIRER has discovered shocking new details about the red-hot affair scandal!

Gives new meaning to the GOP mantra "Drill, baby, drill":
Government officials handling billions of dollars in oil royalties engaged in illicit sex with employees of energy companies they were dealing with and received numerous gifts from them, federal investigators said Wednesday.
The alleged transgressions involve 13 Interior Department employees in Denver and Washington. Their alleged improprieties include rigging contracts, working part-time as private oil consultants, and having sexual relationships with — and accepting golf and ski trips and dinners from — oil company employees, according to three reports released Wednesday by the Interior Department's inspector general.
The investigations reveal a "culture of substance abuse and promiscuity" by a small group of individuals "wholly lacking in acceptance of or adherence to government ethical standards," wrote Inspector General Earl E. Devaney.
The reports describe a fraternity house atmosphere inside the Denver Minerals Management Service office responsible for marketing the oil and gas that energy companies barter to the government instead of making cash royalty payments for drilling on federal lands. The government received $4.3 billion in such Royalty-in-Kind payments last year. The oil is then resold to energy companies or put in the nation's emergency stockpile.
Yeah, drill, baby, drill. Under George Bush's reign, the oil companies were literally screwing the country.

The word "Wolf"? Code for Palin's Wolf Hunting?
McCain now says Obama is a wolf out to destroy Palin, his prey

McCain has a new ad. It paints Obama as a dark nasty wolf out to eat poor Sarah Palin. Which got me thinking:
1. Obama doesn't want to cut McCain's or Palin's heads off because it would be mean, and he doesn't do mean - but also because if Obama does fight back hard, then he might be accused of flip-flopping on his message of "change."
2. In his latest personal attack ad, John McCain is now accusing Obama of doing just that, knocking Palin's head off, AND flip-flopping on his message of change - even though Obama hasn't and isn't.
3. So, Obama's strategy of playing nice, and not giving the Republicans cause to accuse him of flip-flopping on the "nice" thing, has led Obama to give McCain a free pass AND McCain is still accusing Obama of flip-flopping on the "nice" thing.
4. Finally, I've heard chatter that Obama may think he has to be careful not to come off as the "stereotypical angry black man." That this is one reason he's playing nice. Well, they just painted you as a black wolf preying on a white woman. How's that going for you?
So, in a nutshell, we played nice and the Republicans played mean. We held back because we didn't want to give the Republicans ammo, and they fired anyway. Gee, no one could have predicted that. Oh wait, we all did. Anybody else starting to wonder if our next president is going to be named Palin?

Data for the whole period from 1948 to 2007, during which Republicans occupied the White House for 34 years and Democrats for 26, show average annual growth of real gross national product of 1.64 percent per capita under Republican presidents versus 2.78 percent under Democrats.
That 1.14-point difference, if maintained for eight years, would yield 9.33 percent more income per person, which is a lot more than almost anyone can expect from a tax cut.

Gov't officials probed about illicit sex, gifts
Family Values.......
By DINA CAPPIELLO, Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON - Government officials handling billions of dollars in oil royalties improperly engaged in sex with employees of energy companies they were dealing with and received numerous gifts from them, federal investigators said Wednesday.
The alleged transgressions involve 13 former and current Interior Department employees in Denver and Washington.
Devaney. Devaney's office spent more than two years and $5.3 million on the investigations.
Between 2002 and 2006, nearly a third of the 55-person staff in the Denver office received gifts and gratuities from oil and gas companies, including Chevron, Shell, Hess Corp. and Denver-based Gary-Williams Energy Corp. the investigators found. Two oil marketers who received gifts and gratuities on at least 135 occasions displayed no remorse when confronted with their activities, Devaney said. He singled out Chevron as refusing to cooperate with the investigation.

I was thinking the very same thing today. This would be a different race if the GOP convention was first.
The test is if Gibson will be as direct with Palin
as he was with Obama in the Debate questions....
The first test of Palin, untethered (to the campaign or a prepared text), will come later this week when she sits down with ABC News anchor Charles Gibson for an interview in Alaska. It will air on Thursday's evening news.
Gibson can't stand too much on deference, can he? He's the guy, after all, who at an April debate put Obama in a full-nelson. The crowd that night in Philadelphia groaned, and commentators torched Gibson and co-moderator George Stephanopoulos.
But the debate did answer questions, as the TV men said, that were "out there" in the electorate. Obama was forced to discuss his association with a onetime member of the radical 1960s group the Weathermen; his statement that poor voters "bitter" about their lot turn to guns and religion for solace; and his failure to more quickly disassociate himself from the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., his racially polarizing former pastor.
Those issues "came in," as the lawyers like to say, because the people needed to know, Gibson told the Democrat.
The ABC anchor, for example, asked Obama about his "bitter" comment, saying that Pennsylvanians "find that patronizing and think that you said actually what you meant."
Gibson also aired a tape of a Latrobe, Pa., woman who asked Obama (who did not always wear a flag pin) about his patriotism: "I want to know if you believe in the American flag?" Gibson defended the question by pointing out that such queries were "all over the Internet."
Even without that flimsy standard, Gibson should have no trouble finding the justification to ask Palin a few of these questions:
* You have been skeptical that global warming is caused by humans. On what basis do you reject the scientific consensus that fossil fuels and human activity have contributed to climate change?
* You asked the librarian in your town about the policy for banning books. Are there books you think should be kept from the public?
* You have claimed credit for killing the "bridge to nowhere," the $398-million link between Ketchikan and Gravina Island. Didn't you support it until it was clear Congress was not willing to pay for the much-ridiculed project?
* You have said students should be allowed to "debate both sides" of evolution. Should creationism be taught alongside evolution in the public schools? Do you believe in evolution?
* What's at the root of the terrorist problem in Pakistan? And how would you make progress, which has eluded the Bush administration, in that dangerous country?
* Your opponents claim you and McCain would just extend the Bush administration for another four years. Cite three instances in which you have differed with the president.
That's just a start. I'm not sure how much time Gibson is going to have, but he can turn to his own viewers for other questions, posted by the hundreds on ABC's website.
During that April debate, Gibson set another standard. He interrupted when he thought his question wasn't being answered. He called Obama out, for instance, when he thought he was not clear enough about gun control.
Hardly deferential, but appropriate -- both for the Democratic star of the first half of the campaign season and the Republican star just stepping to center stage.

Barbara Boxer’s statement
Barbara Boxer’s statement on just what McCain - who claimed to be a “fighter” - is really interested in fighting for.
In the 16 years that we have served together in the Senate, I have seen John McCain fight.
I have seen him fight against raising the federal minimum wage 14 times.
I have seen him fight against making sure that women earn equal pay for equal work.
I have seen him fight against a women’s right to choose so consistently that he received a zero percent vote rating from pro-choice organizations.
I have seen him fight against helping families gain access to birth control.
I have seen him fight against Social Security, even going so far as to call its current funding system “an absolute disgrace.”
And I saw him fight against the new GI Bill of Rights until it became politically untenable for him to do so.
John McCain voted with President Bush 95 percent of the time in 2007 and 100 percent of the time in 2008 — that’s no maverick.
We do have two real fighters for change in this election — their names are Barack Obama and Joe Biden.

Johnny B. Goode!
Deep down in Arizona close to Mexico
Way back up in the cactuses where it never snows
There stood an ancient mansion made of gold and wood
Where lived a a corrupt politician named Johnny B Goode
Who’d never learned the difference between Sunni or Shia so well
But he could pretend to chase Osama to the gates of Hell
Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
Go! Go! Johnny B. Goode!
He used to carry his bribe money in a gunnysack
Go sit beneath a tree and count his Keating kickbacks
Old lobbyist on K street would see him sittin’ in the shade
Laughing at the doubletalk and flip flops he made
The people passed him by they would stop and say
Oh my but that little old mummy really hates the gays
Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
Go! Go! Johnny B. Goode!
His mother told him someday you will be an old man
And you will be the leader of a murderous criminal clan
Many people will be blown to bits from miles around
To see you launch the nukes and take us all down
Maybe some day you will make mushroom clouds so bright
Sayin’ “Johnny B Goode pushed the button tonight”

Movie review for The Mummy: starring John McCain
Movie review for The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor starring John McCain
This is John McCain’s first movie appearance since his cameo in Wedding Crashers. McCain has once again played himself this time starring as the film’s protagonist, the Mummy. It was a clever casting move by the film’s directors, as no makeup was needed to portray McCain as an ancient, desiccated, withered cadaver.
The movie begins when McMummy falls out of his chariot and is captured by the Syrians. He spends five and a half years being tortured in a Syrian prison camp and being brainwashed into a secret Syrian supporter. When he returns to Egypt his wife who has faithfully waited for him, falls off a camel and is crippled. McMummy, becomes a politician in the Egyptian parliament and is then involved in a political scandal. He is known as one of the “Cairo Five,” a group of five Egyptian politicians who took bribes and kickbacks to reward lucrative government contracts to a wealthy businessman. McMummy is attracted to the businessman’s secretary who accidentally burns a pile of records that implicated him deeper in the scandal. He starts cheating with her, and it doesn’t hurt that she’s a wealthy meade heiress. McMummy applies for a marriage license with the beer heiress even though he is still married to the woman was crippled in the camel accident. McMummy uses his war record to help people forget about his corruption issues. He styles himself a “maverick” by doing maverick things like voting against a holiday for “Mummy Luther King,” an Egyptian holy man who was murdered for preaching for peace and equality between the Egyptian races. McMummy’s conservative followers aren’t to into things like peace and equality, they love war and so does the McMummy. He does other maverick things like voting against the minimum wage 19 times and against extending healthcare benefits to veterans of foreign wars like he is.
McMummy’s political ambitions burn for him to be Pharaoh someday but by the time he gets the opportunity he is snake bit by his political rival a former Pharaoh’s son “Bushotept.” Bushotept is a brain-damaged figurehead but his handlers maliciously slander McMummy spreading rumors of his having a Nubian baby and of being a homicidal maniac from his years in a Syrian prison. McMummy is defeated by Bushotept and he falls in line to serve the new Pharaoh. McMummy lusts for war after war with Egypt’s neighbors and he helps Bushotept gin up a war with Babylon so they can seize its rich resources. A million Babylonians are slaughtered in the war and thousands of young Egyptians are needlessly butchered in Bushotept’s invasion and occupation of the fertile crescent. McMummy is in ecstasy from all of the destruction caused by the war with Babylon. He takes credit for the carnage and urges a war with Persia. After eight years of war and economic ruin from Bushotept and his cronies it’s McMummy turn to run for pharaoh. He is now older then the dead sea scrolls and he can’t even remember how many pyramids he owns.
When it comes time for McMummy to pick a running mate he picks Cleopatra’s religious fanatic sister Sarahpatra. Sarahpatra believes Osiris, God of the dead, wants to burn up the earth asap. She also believes Osiris is against healthcare for children and for tax cuts for the rich. The faithful are delighted with his choice even though she cant find Babylon on a map and is one McMummy heartbeat away from being Pharaoh.

ToniD,
If MSM did their job we would not be in this mess. In spite of what has transpired in the past 8 years, they are still lying for the Republicans. Gibson is not going to do a damn thing. If you recall, this is the same network that sent out memos to sponsors urging them to boycott Air America. This is also the network that on the eve of the 2004 election- used it's radio stations to flood the airwaves with right-wing propaganda.

Impeach President Bush now, says Dennis Kucinich
One day before the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, Rep. Dennis Kucinich is presenting a petition to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi with 50,000 signatures urging the impeachment of President Bush -- adding to the 100,000 he has already filed.
Calling the Bush administration's military response to 9/11 "errant retributive justice," the Ohio Democrat called for a Commission on Truth and Reconciliation to "compel testimony and gather official documents" on why the Bush administration went to war in Iraq. In advance of a news conference today with grass-roots organizations lobbying Congress on the issue, Kucinich said:
Impeachment has been the first step in our efforts toward truth. The American people were lied to. We went to war based on lies. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. ...
In the face of a destructive war against Iraq, preparations for war against Iran, the initiation of a cold war with Russia, the inevitable destruction of our domestic economy from the extraordinary cost of a great military buildup, and the gutting of civil liberties, the call for impeachment has been the only remedy. Millions of Americans recognize this.

Defense chiefs: Afghan fighting is getting harder
That's because were fighting 2 wars ya Moron !
One that didn't even attack us..Hello !
By ROBERT BURNS, AP Military Writer
WASHINGTON - Even with American troops headed soon from an increasingly quiet Iraq to a more turbulent Afghanistan, defeating extremists in Afghanistan is growing more complex and more urgent, President Bush's senior defense advisers say.
"Frankly, we are running out of time," Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told the House Armed Services Committee, referring to the international effort to stabilize Afghanistan.
"I'm not convinced we're winning in Afghanistan," said Mullen, adding quickly, "I'm convinced we can."
What is needed, he said, is better Afghan governance, more foreign investment, a viable alternative to poppy farming, greater cooperation with Pakistan and more U.S. nonmilitary assistance.

McCain Ad Featuring Katie Couric Removed From YouTube (copyright claim by CBS News)
A new ad from Sen. John McCain relates to Sen. Barack Obama's recent "lipstick on a pig," comment. The video also features a comment from CBS' Katie Couric (see below for that backstory). The official McCain video on YouTube can no longer be accessed, as the message reads, "This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by CBS Interactive Inc." We hear CBS is pursuing the issue. But like most things on YouTube there are duplicates:
The clip is from one of Couric's Reporter's Notebooks back in June when she criticized the media for some of the coverage of Sen. Hillary Clinton's campaign. The McCain ad, which was hastily produced for the Web, implies Couric is being critical of the Obama campaign. A more complete quote from Couric's June Notebook:
"Like her or not, one of the great lessons of that campaign is the continued and accepted role of sexism in American life, particularly in the media."
> Update: A CBS News spokesperson tells TVNewser: "CBS News does not endorse any candidate in the presidential race. Any use of CBS personnel in political advertising that suggests the contrary is misleading."

COUNTRY FIRST. ALASKA SECOND.

OK, I’m out. I’m not voting for President or Vice-President. Too many things I don’t like. There’s the “Team Faux-Maverick” and then there is “Team FISA-Light”. I’ve decided to take out iconic influence and not vote for “a team.” No shiny ads, no candidate crush, no homecoming king or queen for me. I’m breaking up with all of them. I’m voting for the Supreme Court.
As an Alaskan, I certainly feel a connection to Sarah Palin. But her potential as vice-president to influence and legislate her religious beliefs terrify me. Her “no choice” stance on abortion causes me great concern. I’m not a liberal with an abortion punch card, but I agree with Roe v. Wade. What happens in my uterus or anyone else’s is a private matter. Abortion should be legal, safe and rare.
As a Governor, her fundamental beliefs and legislative influence will pass like a thief in the night. Spending priorities and state policies change with administrations. That said, the lasting and devastating impact of a McPalin Administration would be in their Supreme Court appointments. Three of the four members of the liberal bloc-John Paul Stephens (age 88), Ruth Bader Ginsburg (age 75) and David Hackett Souter (age 69)-are expected to retire or expire during the next president’s term. By comparison, three of the four members of the conservative bloc-John Paul Roberts (age 53), Samuel Alito (age 58) and Clarence Thomas (age 60) are spring chickens by Supreme Court standards and will actively legislate from the bench for many years, perhaps decades, to come. Antonin Sclalia (age 72), is an old tough Italian and not expected to leave anytime soon. John McCain is on record saying he admires and would seek justices like John Paul Roberts and Samuel Alito.
“I have my own standards of judicial ability, experience, philosophy, and temperament. And ChiefJustice Roberts and Justice Samuel Alito meet those standards in every respect. They wouldserve as the model for my own nominees if that responsibility falls to me.”
- John McCain May 6, 2008
Consider the recent Exxon Valdez verdict (audio interview on the day of the ruling with Greg Palast). Exxon, the company that set and broke planet earth’s quarterly profit record three quarters in a row, was let off the hook. Future corporate punitive damages are now forever minimally capped because of a conservative John “How much more can a corporation do?” Roberts Supreme Court! The Court based their activist ruling on 19th Century Maritime Law! 21st Century Corporations can now view punitive damages as the small cost of doing business. Due to Exxon’s negligence and the corporate sympathy of the Supreme Court, the largest act of environmental terrorism was treated like an accidental littering.
A “McPalin” Administration would also threaten legal cornerstones like habeas corpus. AGAIN! Habeas corpus is not an amendment to the Constitution, it IS the Constitution. It is the 13th Century right to challenge your detention. Our revolution against England was in large part a rejection of the disappearing citizens; shackled in dungeons, imprisoned or killed without charges. The Military Commissions Act (signed by Bush October 17, 2006), suspended habeas corpus and undermined America’s rise over the tyranny we’d fought against. On June 12th of this year, the Supreme Court voted to restore Habeas Corpus in a 5-4 decision. Roberts and Alito led the RATS (Roberts Alito Thomas Scalia) in dissent. Dissent of the Constitution itself. A vote for McPalin is a vote for a clone of Roberts and Alito! It is a vote against the Bill of Rights and the deletion of our rights as citizens. If you trade Stephens, Ginsburg and Souter for three Roberts-Alito clones, a future court ruling on habeas corpus would have permanently eliminated the right of American Citizens to challenge their detention with an 8-1 landslide and landmark decision.
In Sarah Palin’s RNC speech, she said of Barack Obama. “Al Qaeda terrorists still plot to inflict catastrophic harm on America … he’s worried that someone won’t read them their rights?” Hard fought rights are who we are, what we stand for, what we will do, and what we won’t. They are not about who or what we fight. If the terrorist attacks of 9/11 were because terrorists “hate our freedom”, they will surely love us with a McPalin Supreme Court. John McCain is willing to turn our service men and women into those who tortured him. He had the credibility to say no to the Bush Administration when it came to waterboarding. He knows it doesn’t provide accurate information, and turns men into monsters. McCain wants to be a maverick, but instead put politics above principles; the rule of men over the rule of law.
The Supreme Court has been a motivating factor for voters in elections past. This round, however, is truly an unprecedented moment where the scales of justice are threatened; like never before. A vote for Obama keeps those scales level. A vote for McPalin shifts the balance of the court to the far right for decades and threatens that which so many have given their lives for.
While there is a part of me that roots for Sarah, I feel like my local hockey star got traded to a rival team. And that rival team is all about buying the refs, juicing up, starting fights, and betting on their own games. Her new team wants to trade Liberty for Security. They are not mutually exclusive. I’m breaking up with the candidates. I’m voting for The Constitution and Supreme Court nominations.

Clinton defends Obama while attacking GOP ticket
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) on Wednesday defended Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) from Republican charges of sexism and suggested the GOP ticket was trying to distract voters from real issues.
Clinton refrained from directly attacking Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the GOP vice presidential nominee, during a news conference scheduled to discuss disparity in pay between men and women. But by highlighting an issue that is important to the millions of white women who supported her in the Democratic primary, Clinton drew a bright line between the two campaigns and showed Palin does not share her views.
“The campaign of Sen. McCain seems to want to divert attention away from the real challenges facing middle-class families in America today,” she said.
“I see nothing from the McCain-Palin ticket that really suggests, even, that they understand the depth of economic distress in this country, the tragedy of the uninsured who cannot get healthcare, the problems that we face, from home foreclosures to dependence on foreign oil, and so much else."

Study links oil prices to investor speculation
Speculation by large investors — and not supply and demand for oil — were a primary reason for the surge in oil prices during the first half of the year and the more recent price declines, an independent study concluded Wednesday.
The report by Masters Capital Management said investors poured $60 billion into oil futures markets during the first five months of the year as oil prices soared from $95 a barrel in January to $145 a barrel by July.
Since then, these investors have withdrawn $39 billion from those markets as prices have retreated dramatically, the report said. Oil traded at about $102 a barrel Wednesday on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
"We have clear evidence the fund flow pushed prices up and the fund flow pushed prices down," said Michael Masters of Masters Capital Management, calling the amount of money moving into oil futures markets by large institutional investors in the early part of the year "way off the scale."

Stevens dealt setbacks in court
By Manu Raju
Posted: 09/10/08 02:17 PM [ET]
Sen. Ted Stevens suffered a series of setbacks Wednesday as a federal judge rebuffed his lawyers’ attempts to weaken a corruption case that has put his political career in peril.
Judge Emmet G. Sullivan of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia rejected Stevens’s (R-Alaska) motion to dismiss the case on constitutional grounds. Stevens's team had argued the Senate, not the Justice Department, has the authority to enforce questions over financial disclosure forms under the Constitution’s separation-of-powers clause.
The judge also allowed the government to keep language in the indictment that suggests the senator traded legislative action for the gifts — something he is not charged with. Additionally, Sullivan rejected an attempt by Stevens to drop one count of his indictment because he said it occurred in 1999, exceeding a five-year statute of limitations.
Sullivan said he would reject arguments that the evidence brought forth in the indictment is "unconstitutionally vague" and does not meet a sufficient legal standard.

Meghan McCain: My Dad Says "Lipstick On A Pig"
John McCain's daughter Meghan is not taking offense to Barack Obama's "lipstick on a pig" line like the rest of her father's campaign, pointing out Wednesday morning that GOP presidential nominee has been known to use the phrase.
"I've heard my dad say that, the term 'lipstick on a pig,'" McCain said during an appearance on Fox promoting her new children's book about her father. ...

Ex-Fed Poole-Nonfinance firms may seek Fed loans (free money for big corporations)
WASHINGTON, Sept 10 (Reuters) - Former Federal Reserve Governor William Poole on Wednesday said recent government intervention in financial markets raises the possibility companies outside the banking and financial arenas could seek federal loans to prevent business failures.
"It is naive to believe that non-financial firms would never engage in a concerted political campaign to obtain Federal Reserve loans," he said in remarks to a seminar organized by forecasting firm Macroeconomic Advisors.

Foggo Threatens To Expose CIA Secrets As Part of Own Criminal Case
By Kate Klonick - September 10, 2008, 2:40PM
In court documents filed late last week, prosecutors in the trial of former executive director of the CIA Dusty Foggo allege that the defendant is attempting to "twist a straightforward case into a referendum on the global war on terror" by taking the spotlight off his charges of corruption and fraud.
In going down this irrelevant path, the government argues, Foggo will expose dozens of confidential programs and people still active in the CIA.

McCain: racist, bigot & homophobe Endorsed George Wallace
Dear Blogafellows,
You gotta read this. I found it on Capital Hill Blue. What angers me is the Democrats know damn well what McCain is. And they remain silent. Because, they laugh at the jokes. Please spread this link around -so it gets into the blogeshere.

McCain: racist, bigot & homophobe
August 1, 2008 - 7:14am.
By DOUG THOMPSON
John McCain, a member of the House of Representatives in the mid-1980s, often held court at a table near the bar at Bullfeathers, a popular Capitol Hill watering hole, telling jokes and matching hangers-on drink by drink.
As a Capitol Hill chief of staff, I often drank at Bullfeathers and was invited to join the throng at McCain's table one evening. A few minutes listening to the racism, bigotry and homophobia of the Arizona Congressman told me all I needed to know.
McCain loved to tell jokes about lesbians, blacks, Hispanics and the Vietnamese community that occupied a large section of Arlington County, Virginia, just south of the District of Columbia.
Of course, McCain didn't use polite language in the jokes: He used names like "fags" or "queers" or "dykes" or "niggers" or "spics" or "wetbacks" or "gooks."
A typical McCain joke (overheard at Bullfeathers):
Two dykes are talking at a bar and one leaves. As she walks toward the door, the other watches her leave and says out loud: "God, I've love to eat her out."
Two men are standing near by and one turns to the other and says: "I'd like to do the same. Guess that makes me a dyke."
Or another (also overheard at Bullfeathers):
Question: Why does Mexican beer have two "X's" on the label?
Answer: Because wetbacks always need a co-signer.
(McCain has a documented history of lesbian jokes. He's also come under fire for other jokes about rape.)
Exampe:
Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly?
Because Janet Reno is her father.
Another example:
Did you hear the one about the woman who is attacked on the street by a gorilla, beaten senseless, raped repeatedly and left to die? When she finally regains consciousness and tries to speak, her doctor leans over to hear her sigh contently and to feebly ask, ‘Where is that marvelous ape?’
When he ran for the Senate, I attended a gathering of GOP operatives at the National Republican Senatorial Committee where McCain outlined his campaign strategy:
I play to win. I do whatever it takes to win. If I have to fuck my opponent to win I'll do it. If I have to destroy my opponent I won't give it a second thought.
McCain's so-called sense of humor has no limits when it comes to simple human decency. Shortly after former President Ronald Reagan announced he had Alzheimer's Disease, McCain told this joke at a GOP Fundraiser:
Do you know the best thing about having Alzheimer's?
You get to hide your own Easter eggs.
Even his wife is not immune. Writes Cliff Schecter in his book, The Real John McCain:
Three reporters from Arizona, on the condition of anonymity, also let me in on another incident involving McCain's intemperateness. In his 1992 Senate bid, McCain was joined on the campaign trail by his wife, Cindy, as well as campaign aide Doug Cole and consultant Wes Gullett. At one point, Cindy playfully twirled McCain's hair and said, "You're getting a little thin up there." McCain's face reddened, and he responded, "At least I don't plaster on the makeup like a trollop, you cunt." McCain's excuse was that it had been a long day. If elected president of the United States, McCain would have many long days.
This is the man the Republican Party thinks should be the next President of the United States. What else should we expect from a party that promotes racism, homophobia and discrimination against anyone with a different skin color, sexual orientation or ethnic origin?
So we shouldn't be surprised that McCain's campaign strategy seeks to raise racial fear about Barack Obama, the first African-American with a serious shot at the Presidency of the United States.
John McCain is a racist: Always has been, always will be. A retired Naval officer who says he served with McCain in the Navy says he treated black sailors with disrespect and scorn. McCain refuses to release his detailed military record and some sources say that record includes incidents that include issues with black sailors.
Such attitudes are part of his family history. As noted by a black poster in Talking Points Memo:
I can't love America the same way John McCain does. When his daddy was Admiral, my daddy was mopping floors. And when his granddaddy was Admiral, all the Blacks in the entire Navy were mopping floors. But they still volunteered and went to war, even when their commanders didn't think they were brave enough to fight. So who loves America more? The cook on the ship who couldn't vote in 15 states, or the Admiral who dined on the meals he slaved over?
McCain's collection of off-color jokes are riddled with racist words and sentiments. Advisors have toned down the raunchy rhetoric of his early years in Congress but close aides say his attitudes have not changed.
McCain opposed making the birthday of slain civil rights leader Martin Luther King a national holiday. During his 2000 campaign for President, he told reporters on his "Straight Talk Express: "I hated the gooks (North Vietnamese). I will hate them as long as I live."
Katie Hong of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, who reported the remark, wrote:
It is offensive because by using a racial epithet that has historically been used to demean all Asians to describe his captors, McCain failed to make a distinction between his torturers and an entire racial group.
It is alarming because a major candidate for president publicly used a racial epithet, refused to apologize for doing so and remains a legitimate contender.
For his 2000 campaign for President, McCain hired Richard Quinn, founder and editor in chief of Southern Heritage Magazine, to serve as his spokesman in South Carolina.
Notes Salon.Com:
Quinn's articles have called Nelson Mandela a "terrorist" and King a man "whose role in history was to lead his people into a perpetual dependence on the welfare state, a terrible bondage of body and soul." In another piece, Quinn said of former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke, "What better way to reject politics as usual than to elect a maverick like David Duke?" though he did condemn Duke's bigotry.
Irwin A. Tank, author of Gook: John McCain's Racism, notes a long and sordid history of racism from the presumptive GOP nominee, including:
McCain's use of the anti-Asian slur "gook" publicly for 27 years before dropping the use for his current Presidential run;
McCain's endorsement of George Wallace Jr., a frequent speaker at white supremacist events;
His vote against establishing a holiday for Martin Luther King's birthday and then another vote to rescind the holiday.
In answering a question about divorced fathers and child support, McCain called the children "tar babies."
The list goes on and on
