MSNBC Caving to McCain's media attacks?
The text message is asking me to take part in a survey, as they did throughout both conventions. This time, the text asks this:
NBCNews-What do u feel MC's speech did most?
A.Inspired nation
B.Explained motivation 4 Prez run
C.Outlined policy priorities
D.Position him as tough maverick
I'm supposed to reply with my response, either A, B, C, or D.
Obviously, I wouldn't choose any of those responses, as every single one of them kisses John McCain's ass in one way or another. There is absolutely nothing objective about the possible answers, yet MSNBC is a liberal network?
The fact is, Right now MSNBC has one liberal commentator in Keith Olbermann, and even he shouldn't necessarily be classified as liberal, just overwhelmingly honest in his opinions.
Starting on Monday, MSNBC will be adding a second liberal voice to the daily lineup in the form of Rachel Maddow. This in no way compares to partisanship of networks like FOX News who literally won't hire anybody except right-wing blowhards.
Liberal media my ass.
PS. I responded with "E.Made me think i stepped in moose shit"

US says its arms exports boomed this year
Jim Wolf
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. government-brokeredoverseas arms sales are expected to total about $34 billion inthe current fiscal year, up more than 45 percent from the yearbefore, the Pentagon agency in charge said Wednesday.
"Our program is growing by leaps and bounds," Jeanne Farmerof the Defense Security Cooperation Agency told aninternational defense industry conference.
Among the biggest government-to-government buyers in fiscal2008, which wraps up at the end of this month, wereAfghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Egypt and Iraq, Farmersaid.
Overseas arms sales are a key instrument of U.S. foreignpolicy as well as a boon to defense contractors such asLockheed Martin Corp , Boeing Co , NorthropGrumman Corp , General Dynamics Corp andRaytheon Co .
In fiscal 2007, such sales totaled $23.3 billion, up from$21 billion in fiscal 2006, according to the security agency'sfigures.
Farmer, at the conference known as ComDef 2008, said her agency was playing a growing role in the U.S.-declared globalwar on terrorism and national security.
The security agency was currently working with 207countries and had 12,262 "open cases" totaling $274.3 billionas of last month, she said. Open cases include those in whichorders have been filled but which could still involve exerciseof options among other things.
"In the current environment, everybody needs everythingright now," Farmer said. "We do expect to continue to havelarge, large sales."
The United States carries out government-to-governmentconventional arms transfers through the Defense Department'sForeign Military Sales program, which operates on a no-profit,no-loss basis.
In 2007, the Pentagon notified Congress of more than $39billion in such potential sales to 23 countries andChinese-claimed Taiwan, including some funded by grant aid.
This year's notifications are expected to be a record high, led by Iraq. Not all notifications result in final sales suchas those now being reported for this year. Buyers pay a fee, currently 3.8 percent of the cost of the purchase, to cover thecost of administering the program.
The U.S. government says arms sales strengthen U.S.national security by tightening bilateral defense ties, supporting coalitions and enhancing U.S. ability to operatewith foreign militaries.
Critics say booming sales reflect a failure of U.S.diplomacy and show a need for the United States to rethink howit handles foreign policy.
"Instead of spending millions or billions of dollars onweaponry, many U.S. arms customers should be funding education, health, and infrastructure programs that would go much furtherin improving the long-term stability of their countries," saidWade Boese, research director of the Arms Control Association,a nonpartisan group aimed at curbing the spread of weapons.

GOP Talked of Terrorists and Iraq, But Not Veterans, Dead Troops
I don't know why, but I thought maybe for this convention the Republican party would drop their tired fear-and-smear playbook and try something different. I guess I assumed with the American people seeming to have forgotten that we still have well over 100,000 soldiers and Marines trapped in the Iraq quagmire, that the GOP's main speakers would at least make the economy a centerpiece in their poisoning of the national dialog.
Boy, was I wrong.
Not only did they say next to nothing about the economy -- other than Grandpa Fred Thompson implying that Democrats are imagining the economic distress most Americans are feeling -- but they went right back to the most trusted Republican campaign technique: When you have nothing whatsoever to offer the American people, scare the crap out of them.
"Al Qaeda terrorists still plot to inflict catastrophic harm on America,"
Radical, violent Islam is evil, and he will defeat it,"
"terrorists, rogue nations developing nuclear weapons" and, of course, ... "that to protect America, we must stay on the offense, stop attacks before they happen, and not wait to be hit again."
Hell, that sorry excuse for a carbon-based lifeform, Joe Lieberman, even threw in a terrorist reference -- though oddly, there was no mention of the fact that Osama bin Laden is still podcasting threats again us and that the Republican party has done almost nothing to catch him in seven years.
And of course they took the time last night to run the requisite video exploiting the memory of all who died on September 11.
What did not one member of the faux, support-the-troops line-up mention -- not even one time? The sacrifice of our military families, the number of troops who have returned home in coffins since Bush lied us into the Iraq disaster and the trials of Iraq war Veterans.
To steal from the shrill Rudy Giuliani's speech on Wednesday, they said "nada, nothing."
For a party that wants to convince Americans that the entire Iraq debacle can somehow be reduced to the small amount of time spent on the "surge," every major speech was missing any acknowledgement whatsoever of the troops who have died and those still serving on the ground in Iraq -- except the couple of instances where they used the troops to lie about Barack Obama's record.
people are now starting to look seriously at the candidates and
undecideds are decreasing. I feel pretty confident that Obama will just get stronger and stronger now, especially since there is nothing new in this boring McCain campaign. It was good to hear some republicans criticizing his speech. The fact that they are muting Palin won't help either. Her adoring fans will even want to hear more from her and will be disappointed that she is not around on the news.
And remember, the debates are coming and Obama will just look better and better.

Heya happ!
I didn't even watch McCain... after Cindy (effin' c#*t) McCain said "we want the federal government off our backs" I had to seriously go vomit.
Lies. Damned Lies. All of it was bullshit.
I honestly can't imagine living a life where the past eight years of big government, constitutional erosion, record deficit spending, home foreclosures, job losses, et al, actually hasn't happened under the Republicans. They say well Democrats have had Congress for two years now! Except the fact that either Bush has vetoed legislation, or the Senate Republicans have filibustered or threatened filibusters over and over and over again, and then blame Democrats for doing nothing. And the issues Dems HAVE capitulated on, much to dismay of our base, nary a mention on that bi-partisanship.
It's sick. I can't imagine being that kind of person who enjoys being lied to day in and day out.
If we end up with McCain, we will end up with a country in tatters. It's already in shambles. I tend to agree with Randi Rhodes on this. That's ultimately what Republicans want.
When all you have to stand on is attacking your opponent over and over and over, barely mentioning the current occupant of the white house and his policies, and then STEAL Obama's message of CHANGE as your own, well, it's like Tom Shales says here...

Irrefutable evidence indicates that Obama’s campaign has been doing business with CSI, which appears to have been operating fraudulently in the State of Maryland and Ohio, and ACORN, which has been associated with a laundry list of fraudulent business practices. The full nature of the relationship between ACORN and Citizens Services Inc is not known but this much is clear: both share the same address in
New Orleans and officials with CSI refer folks to ACORN for questions about “political consulting” and “Get-Out-The-Vote” activities. These are questions that mainstream media should examine.

Investigation into Palin Now on Fast Track
ABC News has exclusively learned that Alaska Senator Hollis French will announce today that he is moving up the release date of his investigation into whether Gov. Sarah Palin abused her office to get the Alaska public safety commissioner, Walt Monegan, fired. The results of the investigation were originally scheduled for release Oct. 31 but will now come almost three weeks earlier, according to sources.
Alaska state senator Hollis French, who is running an investigation of Gov. Sarah Palin, says the McCain campaign is using stall tactics to prevent him from releasing his final report by Oct. 31st.
(The Associated Press)The announcement is set for 9 a.m. AKDT time.
"It's likely to be damaging to the Governor's administration," said Senator Hollis French, a Democrat, appointed the project manager for a bi-partisan State Senate Legislative Counsel Committee investigation.

The Anti-Republican Republican Who Is Really a Republican
ST. PAUL – In the eighth year of Republican dominance of the executive branch of the federal government, after an extended period in which Republicans also controlled the legislative branch of the same federal government, the party's nominee for president told its convention, "We need to change the way government does almost everything: from the way we protect our security to the way we compete in the world economy; from the way we respond to disasters to the way we fuel our transportation network; from the way we train our workers to the way we educate our children."
Never in recent American history has the candidate of a party seeking to maintain its hold on the presidency seen its candidate so aggressively dismiss the legacy of the incumbent commander-in-chief and his allies. ...
Even as he was pledging to "change the way government does almost everything," the senator from Arizona announced his commitment to much, much more of the same.

Running on the Amnesia Platform
During his acceptance speech, John McCain had some very strong criticism of his opponent. I'm not talking about Barack Obama; I'm talking about George Bush. After rushing headlong into the embrace of Bush and the Rovian wing of the GOP, McCain has now decided that he desperately needs to distance himself and try to reclaim the maverick mantle. Not an easy thing to do when you have sided with Bush 90 percent of the time.
But McCain gave it his best shot. After dispensing with the obligatory opening nod to the president for "leading us in those dark days following the worst attack on American soil in our history," he offered a stinging indictment of the last seven-plus years of Bush and largely Republican rule.
He promised to "make this government start working for you again" and to "stop leaving our country's problems for some unluckier generation to fix."
(In other words, stealing Obama's message of change)
Listening to McCain, you'd think it was the Democrats who occupied the White House the last seven-plus years and it was time to throw the bastards out.
Given that 82 percent of voters believe we are heading in the wrong direction, it's a logical position to take. But for the American people to buy into the notion that McCain, who has raced to Bush's side on tax cuts, on offshore drilling -- even on torture -- is this campaign's agent of change, it's going to require an incredible suspension of disbelief. Or a serious case of amnesia.

Truly a Bridge to Nowhere
While there was much to react to last night in Minnesota, I have to comment on a particular line of attack employed by Rudy Giuliani and Sarah Palin. The utter contempt and disdain they showed for Senator Obama's history as a community organizer is something that we all must stand up against. I'm particularly angered by the lies and distortions because my foundation has proudly financed millions of dollars of incredible work by community organizers over the past fifteen years.
I was also reminded that the ghosts of Willie Horton and Jesse Helms were on display in the Twin Cities. Make no mistake: inside that convention hall "community organizer" was shorthand for radical, black activist. It's certainly not all community organizers they trivialize and dismiss. What else is the pro-life, creationist, anti-tax, pro-gun movements but the work of Right-wing community organizers? Clearly, Palin is specifically condemning those organizers who work to improve the lives of poor and marginalized Americans.
In belittling community organizing work, the Republicans made the case for what they really stand for. Just to review the record, community organizers work in houses of worship, neighborhood centers, union halls and schools. They have taken the lead in fighting for living wage laws in cities across this country, defended tenants against illegal evictions and foreclosures, led the rebuilding of Los Angeles in the aftermath of the Rodney King verdict and the rebuilding of New Orleans following Katrina. They have registered millions of young people, African Americans, Latinos and senior citizens to vote for the first time. It is they, not people like Rudy and Sarah, who respond when factories are shutdown and families find they have nowhere else to turn. Community organizers were the first people in this country to stand up against the war in Iraq. Their organizations are also the first to provide basic services such as health care and education in the wake of a generation of mean-spirited and hateful conservative policies. Community organizations, and their talented organizers, are the social safety net for many in this country.
Let's see..considering that men have run this country for the
majority of its existence...there seems to be, (and I admit I might just be sensitive to this right now), an inordinate amount of the C-word, bitch, etc... speaking of the women in politics....
So...I think there needs to be more ASSHOLE - DICK - BASTARD - FUCKTARD.... :)

this past week...
"Explicit" book pulled from middle school library in Marietta OK
"It’s nasty -- it's soft porn. As far as I have read -- if it was a movie, she couldn't go see it."
The book -- "TTFN" -- came from the Marietta Middle School library, and what's more -- it was on an advanced reading list worth eight points to any student who checks it out and reads it.
The book is recommended for older students, grades ten through twelve, and is written in "instant message" style, depicting online conversations between three fictional eleventh grade girls.
"She read page 32 to me and that was the end of the book. I took it away from my daughter and I can't believe they have these things, this type of reading in a middle school," Kathy Davis said.
That book, which does contain crude references to fellatio and other sexually explicit innuendo, has now been pulled from the shelves here at Marietta Middle School.
