First Time on Seder Blog

The Democratic convention was all grins and smiles nominating Barrack Obama . But one fundamental problem remains and Bill Clinton said it best, Obama still needs to be elected. I would add some additional hurdles remain for Obama on the image front too. Can Barrack Obama convey strength and conviction, not only at the convention, but one on one against McCain in the same way a young Jack Kennedy did against an older, "tougher" (on defense) candidate like Richard Nixon? McCain already alluded to this before the convention in the one on one personal interview with the American Pastor. He is gonna be the candidate strong on defense and is gonna push the Democratic nominee around on all day on defense, given his record and war experience. What if any strategy can Obama employ? Well, in the words of LBJ facing Goldwater, "I'll outright-wing him" and so he did. But Vietnam was a mistake and so is Iraq. War is always a last resort, not the first, and good leadership shows it shouldn't be an option at all. Obama has a certain conviction that shows strength but he has to hone an attack on McCain in a certain way and handle him handily to show his leadership on the campaign battlefield. He's much too nice, and nice guys don't finish first. Biden did wonders for the ticket, and so did the backing of the Clintons. If they're confident, then we should be confident too. I hope Obama will his best to beef up this image too, because so much is at stake, including right analysis, appraisal, and the right response, all failings of the current Administration.
