McCain Facing Touchy Job Loss Issue Today In Ohio
John McCain is visiting Lima, Ohio, where he has a town hall scheduled for 11:30 a.m. The Associated Press points out that McCain is being faced with an awkward issue as he visits: The closure of a DHL shipping site in southwest Ohio, which in turn is the result of a corporate merger that was lobbied for years ago by none other than Rick Davis, McCain's own campaign manager.

You keep waiting for the thing to freeze up or be trashed by some malicious bug but it doens't happen. It's the antithesis of water torture until you finally accept that you just turn it on and it works....all the time.
The problem PC users have is accepting that using a computer can be so easy. They are too used to fighting to get what they want.

A group of Hillary Clinton supporters called "18 Million Voices" -- roughly the number of people who voted for her in the primaries and caucuses -- is planning to hold a march through Denver on August 26, the same day that Clinton is scheduled to address the convention. Expect them to advance the claim that Clinton won the popular vote when Michigan is factored in, and is thus the rightful nominee of the party.

Al Franken Stepping Up
Al Franken Stepping Up Attacks Against GOP Senator
By Eric Kleefeld - August 7, 2008, 10:55AM
Check out this new ad from Al Franken, going after incumbent GOP Sen. Norm Coleman: It's one of the first Dem ads of this whole cycle to go directly after a Republican incumbent over a story involving political muck. It's also a clear sign that Franken, who's trailing in most polls, knows he needs to really step up the attacks:
Video at link
"Coleman is being investigated for paying only $600 a month rent to live in a million-dollar D.C. home owned by a Washington insider connected to powerful lobbyists," the announcer says, before hinting at more attacks to come. "And it gets even worse. Stay tuned for more."

Spread McCain's Talking Points On The Web -- And Earn Prizes!

This, no doubt, will send you all stampeding over to John McCain's campaign Web site:
Spread John McCain's official talking points around the Web -- and you could win valuable prizes!
That, in essence, is the McCain campaign's pitch to supporters to join its new online effort...
People who sign up for McCain's program receive reward points each time they place a favorable comment on one of the listed Web sites (subject to verification by McCain's webmasters). The points can be traded for prizes, such as books autographed by McCain, preferred seating at campaign events, even a ride with the candidate on his bus, known as the Straight Talk Express, according to campaign spokesman Brian Rogers.
See? Who says McCain and the Republicans are trailing Obama and the Dems in online organizing?

White House memo exposes
White House memo exposes Rove knew of problems with anthrax vaccine
Allen McDuffee
Rove said Gulf War Syndrome, vaccine political stumbling block
The Department of Defense continued its controversial mandatory anthrax vaccinations program despite high ranking Bush administration officials acknowledging there were problems with the vaccine within months of the Bush administration taking office—well before the 9/11 attacks and the October 2001 anthrax letters.
A 2001 memorandum from former White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove to then-Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz indicates that the White House knew of problems relating to the Gulf War Syndrome and the military's controversial anthrax vaccine.
Obtained by RAW STORY earlier this year from a senior military official and referenced in today's New York Daily News, "I do think we need to examine the issues of both Gulf War Syndrome and the Anthrax vaccine and how they can be dealt with," Rove wrote. "They are political problems for us."
RAW STORY had held off printing the memorandum (which appears below) in an effort to validate its authenticity. Along with the memo, Rove noted that he had attached "material on the Anthrax vaccine problem," which had been forwarded to him by H. Ross Perot. He titled it "GULF WAR SYNDROME AND ANTHRAX."
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, the military official who leaked the memo said, "It didn't bother me that Rove referred to it as a political problem at the time because it meant that it would be properly dealt with, finally. The political problem became a problem to me when they dropped the ball and allowed the program to continue. It was politics that motivated them to investigate and it was politics that motivated them to allow the program to continue. Now the political nature bothers me."
The Apr. 25, 2001 memo indicates how long and how far up in the administration the anthrax vaccine—and Gulf War Syndrome—have been considered problematic.
The Pentagon's anthrax vaccine is manufactured by a single contractor, Emergent BioSolutions. It has been plagued with complaints from soldiers and soldiers' advocates, who assert that the vaccine caused myriad debilitating ailments.
The Defense Department was forced to halt mandatory injections in 2004 after a judge ruled that the FDA had not approved the vaccine for its intended use. In 2006, the military resumed mandatory vaccinations after FDA approval, citing letters laced with anthrax in late 2001 as a reason.
Questions about the mailings containing anthrax have re-emerged in the wake of a suicide by a biodefense researcher. Bruce Ivins, 62, was under federal investigation for the 2001 anthrax attacks that left five people dead and more than a dozen sickened, some with permanent damage. In a Wednesday joint FBI and Department of Justice press conference, while not officially closing the case, Assistant Director in Charge Joseph Persichini of the FBI Washington Field Office said, "Bruce Ivins was responsible for the death, sickness, and fear brought to our country by the 2001 anthrax mailings."

Cleric may end cease fire if
Cleric may end cease fire if no US withdrawal timetable released Friday
Associated Press
Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr will call on his fighters to maintain a cease-fire against American troops but may lift the order if a planned Iraq-U.S. security agreement lacks a timetable for the withdrawal of American forces, a spokesman said Thursday.
The statement by Sheik Salah al-Obeidi comes as al-Sadr plans to reveal details of a formula to reorganize his Mahdi Army militia by separating it into an unarmed cultural organization and elite fighting cells.
The announcement is expected during weekly Islamic prayer services on Friday.
Several cease-fires by al-Sadr have been key to a sharp decline in violence over the past year, but American officials still consider his militiamen a threat and have backed the Iraqi military in operations to try to oust them from their power bases in Baghdad and elsewhere in Iraq.
Al-Sadr's move appears to be an extension of plans he announced in June aimed at asserting more control over the militia by dividing it into a group of experienced members who would be exclusively authorized to fight and others who would focus on social, religious and community work.
But the cleric also apparently has decided to link the reorganization to ongoing U.S.-Iraqi negotiations over a long-term agreement that would extend the American presence in Iraq after a U.N. mandate expires at the end of the year. The White House's original goal was to have it completed by the end of July.
"This move is meant to offer an incentive for the foreign forces to withdraw," al-Obeidi said. "The special cells of fighters will not strike against foreign forces until the situation becomes clear vis-a-vis the Iraq-U.S. agreement on the presence of American forces here."
The new cultural group will be called Momahidoun, or "those who pave the way" in Arabic, in reference to the Mahdi, or so-called Hidden Imam, who disappeared as a child in the ninth century. Shiites believe he will return one day to bring justice to Earth.
It will replace the Mahdi Army, but elite cells of fighters will be created that could resume targeting U.S.-led foreign forces under strict guidelines, such as not harming Iraqis or infrastructure, said al-Obeidi, the al-Sadr spokesman.
The U.S. military cautiously welcomed the reorganization plan, saying it appeared to be an effort to help the Iraqi people. Residents in some Baghdad neighborhoods, however, said American troops were removing neighborhood fliers from al-Sadr's offices saying "a new organization will be established soon."
"The proof is always in the actions and not just the words," military spokesman Col. Jerry O'Hara said in an e-mailed statement.

Reminder of the junk in the Pacific Ocean!
Hidden, a 3.5 Million Trash Heap Lies in the Ocean
The Great Pacific Garbage Dump Stretches From California to China
By DARCY BONFILS and IMAEYEN IBANGA
Aug. 6, 2008 —
The world's largest trash dump doesn't sit on some barren field outside an urban center. It resides thousands of miles from any land in the Pacific Ocean.
Bottle caps, soap bottles, laundry baskets and shards of plastic are just a few things that float in the ocean's vastness. Known as the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, the "dump" is composed mainly of plastic, which isn't biodegradable.
Instead, the plastic breaks down into smaller and smaller pieces in the patch that extends thousands of miles, from California's coast to China.
Charles Moore, who discovered the trash heap by accident in 1997 when he was sailing the Pacific, collects samples of the growing garbage bin. Some of his samples have contained six times more plastic than plankton.
"It is like a minestrone and ... a lot of the vegetables are plastic," said Moore, who stages regular trips to the garbage patch for research.
A series of currents in the Pacific Ocean create a circular effect that pulls debris from North America, Asia and the Hawaiian Islands into a toxic stew. Then it shoots it into a graveyard of 3.5 million tons of trash that's 80 percent plastic.
Moore said he has noticed an alarming trend. The quantities have increased dramatically more than doubling in five years. And Moore said there is no reason to believe the trend will slow.
And the plastic isn't just floating around in the ocean; new evidence suggests it is making its way into wildlife.
"I found 26 pieces of plastic, all different colors inside one stomach," said marine researcher Christiana Boerger.
Birds also are making a meal of the plastic, and large quantities have been found in their stomachs.
But the biggest debate surrounding the patch isn't its existence or its environmental impact, but rather how to clean it up.
"The experts say there is no silver bullet. We are going to keep looking, but at the moment it is not clear what the best course of action would be to deal with the materials that are already there," said Steve Russell of the American Chemical Council.
Moore, the patch's discoverer, said it's virtually impossible to clean it up. He said that stopping it from growing may be the best approach, which also may prevent other ocean dumps from forming.
Beach cleanups and improved recycling could help.
"The planet is a closed system. So everything that happens on Earth stays on Earth," said Steve Fleischl, president of the Waterkeeper Alliance . "What we need to do is to accept responsibility at the local level and rescue the amount of plastic that comes down our waterways and into our ocean."
Check out the links below for more information on the garbage patch and ocean conservation.

‘Fakeproof’ e-passport is cloned in minutes
New microchipped passports designed to be foolproof against identity theft can be cloned and manipulated in minutes and accepted as genuine by the computer software recommended for use at international airports.
Tests for The Times exposed security flaws in the microchips introduced to protect against terrorism and organised crime. The flaws also undermine claims that 3,000 blank passports stolen last week were worthless because they could not be forged.
In the tests, a computer researcher cloned the chips on two British passports and implanted digital images of Osama bin Laden and a suicide bomber. The altered chips were then passed as genuine by passport reader software used by the UN agency that sets standards for e-passports.
The Home Office has always argued that faked chips would be spotted at border checkpoints because they would not match key codes when checked against an international data-base. But only ten of the forty-five countries with e-passports have signed up to the Public Key Directory (PKD) code system, and only five are using it. Britain is a member but will not use the directory before next year. Even then, the system will be fully secure only if every e-passport country has joined.

WASHINGTON (CNN) — The lines between celebrity and politician blurred Thursday at a Republican news conference, as one congressman began pushing Paris Hilton’s “plan” on energy.
“Let’s bring up the Paris Hilton plan,” goaded Rep. Michael Burgess, R-Texas.
Burgess and his fellow Republicans are in the fifth day of energy speeches on the House floor, despite the fact that the chamber is closed for August recess. They’re trying to pressure House Speaker Nancy Pelosi into holding a vote on offshore oil drilling.

Iraqis: Deal close on plan
Iraqis: Deal close on plan for US troops to leave By QASSIM ABDUL-ZAHRA, Associated Press Writer
1 hour, 2 minutes ago
BAGHDAD - Two Iraqi officials say the U.S. and Iraq are close to a deal under which all American combat troops would leave by October 2010 with remaining U.S. forces gone about three years later.
A U.S. official in Washington acknowledges progress has been made on the timelines for a U.S. departure but offered no firm date. Another U.S. official strongly suggested the 2010 date may be too ambitious.
A timetable is part of a security agreement being negotiated by U.S. and Iraqi officials. Both sides stress the deal is not final and could fall apart over the issue of legal immunity for American troops.
One of the U.S. officials said Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki had a long and "very difficult" telephone conversation Wednesday in which she pressed the Iraqi leader for more flexibility, particularly on immunity.

It's back-to-school time! Parents are starting to shop for their children's school supplies: notebooks, pencils, crayons, and of course, Bill O'Reilly's book, "The O'Reilly Factor for Kids." Talk about one of these things being NOT like the others!
O'Reilly thinks he can teach our children proper behavior, and we can't think of a worse father figure than an angry, hate-filled shock jock notorious for telling guests to "Shut up!" We wondered what would happen if kids read O'Reilly's book and then saw the real O'Reilly for themselves. So we put together a video to illustrate O'Reilly's duplicity.
Watch the video.

by me...
O'Reilly is a talking head. He performs day after day after day.
Any "talent," or professional talker, need to get their head in a place where they can perform their job.
"The No Spin Zone" O'Reilly refers to, is that personal place he needs to be in to do his job where his head does not spin off his body.
Being the emotional duplicitous person he is makes this difficult for him and the cracks often show.
His book is a useful tool for that most important of learned schooling skills, Critical Thinking.

McCain Promises To Help Ohio
McCain Promises To Help Ohio Residents Who Lost Their Jobs Because Of His Campaign Manager
Today, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) is in Wilmington, OH and being forced to address DHL’s merger with Airborne-Express, which may cost roughly 8,000 jobs in the area. In a private meeting, “residents will ask McCain for help in stopping DHL’s proposal to quit using the airport as a hub,” which would put the air park out of business.
In a townhall on July 9, a resident asked McCain what he would do to mitigate the merger’s effects on the area. “I want to be able to keep our nonprofits alive,” she said, crying. McCain said the impact of the merger on area jobs is a “terrible blow”:
MCCAIN:This is a terrible blow. Um, if there’s an anti-trust implication that’s associated with this, I certainly would seek a thorough investigation … I’ve got to look you in the eye and give you some straight talk; I don’t know if I can stop it or not. Or if it will be stopped it. … In fact, some more straight talk: I doubt it. Ok?
“In the meantime, there are manufacturing jobs that have been lost all over the state of Ohio, and it’s been a terrible trauma,” he said. Watch it: At Link
Today, McCain is dealing with the fallout from the merger. But five years ago, McCain’s campaign manager lobbied heavily for the deal. The AP reports that Davis “lobbied the Senate to accept the proposal by DHL to buy Airborne Express for $1.05 billion.” Davis’s lobbying firm reaped the benefits:
Filings in the Senate show Davis’ lobbying firm, Davis Manafort, was hired to help both companies deal with Congress, where objections over DHL’s foreign ownership arose. Davis and a partner earned their firm $185,000 for the DHL-Airborne Express work that year, records show.
“McCain took steps that helped Davis’s clients” and thwarted Sen. Ted Stevens’s (R-AK) “effort to insert language into legislation that would prohibit foreign-controlled companies such as DHL from holding certain military contracts,” the Washington Post reported in June.
Sen. George Voinovich (R-OH) called the situation “one of the worst job catastrophes that any community in this nation is facing.” Will McCain deliver straight talk about the role that he and his campaign manager had in helping shuttle through the DHL deal?

A free press can be good or bad, but, most certainly, without freedom a press will never be anything but bad. ~Albert Camus
An Open Letter by Mike Whitney
8/6/08
My friend Tom Feeley is in Big trouble. He runs the web site informationclearinghouse.info which updates “news you won’t find in the corporate media” every day. The site is strongly anti-war.
Tom has gotten his share of death threats over the years, but what happened this week is a lot more serious.
Two days ago, Tom’s wife found three well dressed men in their kitchen. The man who did all the talking, told Tom’s wife (I won’t give her name) that Tom must “Stop what he is doing on the Internet, NOW!” As crazy as it sounds, he pulled back his lapel and showed her a gun of some kind which she could not identify. Like I said, Tom has been threatened before, but nothing like this. Four years ago, he was in a parking lot at Long’s Drug store in Southern California and when he tried to open his door to get out, a man in a car next to him opened his door at precisely the same time which prevented Tom from getting out. Then, a 40-ish year old man got out of the passenger side of the vehicle and approached Tom saying, “You need to stop what you are doing on the web”.
Tom said the man was overweight and had his shirt untucked. Tom was taken aback, but (after collecting himself said) “What the fuck? Who do you think you are telling me what I can do?”
The man answered, “Tom, I’m just giving you some good advice. You should take my advice, Tom.”
This is all I know about the incident. Since, then, there have been occassional death threats, but nothing like what happened on Sunday. Tom’s wife is hysterical and has not returned to the house since the incident. She contacted the FBI but the FBI said there was nothing they could do. Tom and his wife separated recently after a 30 year marriage, so he is publishing from a different location.
The well-dressed man told Tom’s wife that he knew where her son lived, what line of work he was in, and how many children he had.

At first, it may seem a little slow. There is no dramatic narrative here. But the power of the images and the interspersed narration, along with the actual documentary footage starts to swell up into a tidal wave of recognition: men and women have created an artificial construct in which to live, alienated from nature, with results that will come back to haunt us.

Voter called in from Missouri arrested for voting legally, but not having a document with his signature on it (not even a requirement!) Photo id isn't even a requirement in Missouri and this guy got illegally arrested. Here in Michigan with our new photo id requirement is is going to a disaster. This election is going to be stolen, and the Dems don't even care.

For the nation's migrant farmworkers, high temps creating a "Black Summer"
Categorized under | Tags:
It's being called the "Black Summer" in the San Joaquin Valley of California these days.
Why?
Because last Thursday yet another farm worker died of heat stroke.
Jorge Herrera, 37, of Delano, California died almost four weeks after collapsing at the Vignolo Vinyards loading table grapes. He leaves behind a wife, two children and colleagues who are fed up burying their friends for an illness that can easily be avoided — if the government cared to do something.
According to Arturo Rodriguez, president of the United Farm Workers, Herrera is the fifth farmworker to die in just under three months. He was originally from El Triunfo, Michoacan, Mexico.
His death follows the premature death of 17-year-old farmworker Maria Isabel Vasquez Jimenez. She died for two simple reasons: not enough water and no shade.
During a time when the legacy of Cesar Chavez is being celebrated across the nation with streets and schools named in his honor, a stamp issued in his likeness and talk of a nation-wide holiday in his memory, the deaths of Herrerra and Jimenez and the other farm workers underscore the fact that Chavez' work is far from completed. Farm workers are still being abused in the fields and the system is still ignoring them.
The sad part of each of these deaths is that they were preventable if only it was enforced that orchard owners and farmers had to make sure to supply enough water breaks, shade and rest to their workers without them fearing some sort of retaliatory penalty.

USA guys come in, go into the room, don't know she's there, sit down, one of the guys lays his rifle down on the ground in front of the curtain, she grabs it and takes a couple of shots.]

The complaint says that she got hold of an officer's M-4 rifle in an interrogation room and fired two shots, which missed. The officer used his pistol to fire back and hit her at least once in the torso, according to the charges.
Afghan police, however, said that U.S. soldiers demanded that local police hand over Siddiqui, but they refused, according to a report from Ghazni by the Reuters news agency. When the Americans disarmed the Afghan police at gunpoint, Siddiqui approached the Americans, complaining of mistreatment by the police, according to this account.
...
Legal experts in the United States said the case against Siddiqui might reflect a new willingness by the Bush administration to prosecute some terror suspects in federal court rather than before military commissions at the U.S. detention camp at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

McCain Campaign Officials Were Paid Lobbyists For Hess
Okay, here's some more on the ties between the McCain campaign and the Hess Corporation, the company whose senior executives all dumped $28,500 apiece into the RNC-McCain fundraising committee at around the same time as McCain reversed his previous opposition to offshore drilling.
It turns out that two high-ranking McCain campaign officials, one of whom is also one of McCain's more prolific bundlers, were both were paid lobbyists for Hess for roughly three years, according to disclosure forms.
The two lobbyists are Wayne Berman, McCain's national finance co-chairman, and John Green, who's been the McCain campaign's chief Congressional liaison since March. Both men worked for a firm called Ogilvy Government Relations. The firm has been paid $800,000 by Hess from 2005 up to the present, including $720,000 during the period that both of the two lobbied for the company, the forms say.

Complete works of H.P. Lovecraft
http://www.dagonbytes.com/thelibrary/lovecraft/index.html
H.P. Lovecraft was an American author of horror, fantasy, and science fiction, known then simply as weird fiction.
Lovecraft's major inspiration and invention was cosmic horror: the idea that life is incomprehensible to human minds and that the universe is fundamentally alien. Those who genuinely reason, like his protagonists, gamble with sanity. Lovecraft has developed a cult following for his Cthulhu Mythos, a series of loosely interconnected fictions featuring a pantheon of human-nullifying entities, as well as the Necronomicon, a fictional grimoire of magical rites and forbidden lore. His works were deeply pessimistic and cynical, challenging the values of Enlightenment, Romanticist, and Christian humanism. Lovecraft's protagonists usually achieve the mirror-opposite of traditional gnosis and mysticism by momentarily glimpsing the horror of ultimate reality.

Pakistan coalition to impeach Musharraf
Pakistan's fragile coalition government today announced plans to impeach President Pervez Musharraf, throwing the country into new political turmoil.
Musharraf was today plotting his response with advisers and finally cancelled an on-off trip to the opening ceremony of the Olympic games. Pakistan's top military commanders also reportedly met today and the reaction of the army - which was, until recently, led by Musharraf - will now be key.
The breakthrough for the coalition - which has been able to agree on little since coming to office four months ago - came after three days of talks between the parties that came to power after elections in February, led by Asif Zardari of the Pakistan People's party (PPP) and Nawaz Sharif of the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N).
"We want to make a new Pakistan," said Zardari, sitting with his coalition partners at a press conference in Islamabad. "We have the votes and the political will."

Gun control lobby 'infiltrated by pro-rifle movement spy'
Campaigners for tougher controls on guns in the US are reeling from the allegation that a prominent member of the movement for more than a decade was a spy working for the powerful pro-gun lobby the National Rifle Association.
Mary Lou McFate sat on the board of two groups campaigning for greater controls, and tried to become a director of the national umbrella group of the movement, the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. She was also linked with the circle of an international campaign on small arms trade based in London.
To the outrage of campaigners who worked with her, she has been outed by Mother Jones, the political magazine, as a paid plant for the NRA. An investigation by the magazine based on court documents suggests that she made contact with the NRA as early as 1999 and that the connection was sustained to this day.
Her alleged intelligence work for the gun lobby was partly organised through a defunct detective agency in Maryland. Beckett Brown International received $80,000 from the NRA in 1999 and 2000 for various services, court depositions show. The NRA failed to return calls yesterday and McFate, 62, was also unavailable

Cleric may end cease fire if no US withdrawal timetable released

I don't know about that...
But I do know that voters deserve better & more choices than the ones they are led to believe they have...Ralph is a good man. Timber over fish in CA
California officials reject emergency salmon protection petition
California forestry officials yesterday rejected an emergency petition to protect coho salmon in coastal streams, even though federal fisheries regulators said it would help the imperilled fish
The nine-member board, appointed by the governor, is weighted toward the logging industry. Most members said there wasn't enough evidence to support more regulation. "What we're asking of landowners is a huge financial hardship," said board member Doug Piirto, a forestry professor at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and former Forest Service timber management officer.

Conyers reiterates demand
Conyers reiterates demand for RNC documents
Nick Juliano
Chairman says committee must cooperate with probe of Justice Dept. after judge's subpoena ruling
House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers is reiterating his demand that the Republican National Committee hand over e-mails and other documents relating to its probe of the Bush administration's politicization of the Justice Department.
Conyers (D-MI) wrote to RNC lawyer Robert Kelner Thursday explaining that a judge's recent ruling upholding Congress's authority to subpoena two White House aides also complied to the political committee, which maintained separate e-mail address for some administration figures like former adviser Karl Rove.
The Judiciary Committee has spent more than a year trying to get its hands on the RNC documents in its probe that began with an inquiry into the firing of nine US Attorneys and has expanded to consider all aspects of the Justice Department, including the prosecution of former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman. Critics and whistleblowers say Rove helped orchestrate the Siegleman prosecution; at the time he was sent to jail on what many see as trumped-up charges, Siegelman was the only Democratic governor in the south.
In his letter (.pdf), Conyers noted the White House has not claimed executive privilege to scuttle its inquiry into Siegelman's case, as it has with other Congressional investigations. Therefore, the Michigan Democrat argues, there is no reason for the RNC not to cooperate.
In addition, I would also like to request that you identify and produce any emails transmitted to or from the White House staff through RNC computer servers that mention former Governor of Alabama Don Siegelman. Because there has been no White House claim of privilege regarding Siegelman documents -- to the contrary, the White House has permitted Karl Rove to provide written statements to the Committee's Ranking Member on this very subject -- I would assume that you will be able to produce these documents directly and that no listing or privilege log will be required. To the extent that your client does elect to withhold any of these documents from the Committee, I would appreciate a comparable listing so that the Committee can evaluate any claims of privilege that you believe apply.
US District Judge John Bates ruled last week that the White House's "claim of absolute immunity" to avoid handing over documents and prevent testimony from Chief of Staff Joshua Bolten and former counsel Harriet Miers "is without any support in case law."
That ruling went on to require the White House to produce subpoenaed documents or offer a detailed list of what it was withholding, outlining specific executive privilege claims in each case.
"[Y]our client has declined to produce or itemize the subpoenaed documents relying on the very Executive Privilege claim that was considered by Judge Bates, and you have previously indicated that the RNC would adhere to the terms of a court resolution of the dispute between the Committee and the Executive," Conyers wrote to Kelner. "Accordingly, I expect you will provide any non-privileged documents that your client possesses and an appropriate list and description of any subpoenaed documents that you continue to withhold."

Worldwide protests on eve of
Worldwide protests on eve of China Olympics
Critics of China's human rights record made sure they were not forgotten on Thursday, a day before the grand opening of the Beijing Olympics, with protest actions the world over and in China itself.
A day after cheering crowds welcomed the Olympic torch to Beijing's Tiananmen Square -- scene of a 1989 massacre of pro-democracy protesters -- activists from Canada to Kathmandu sought to get their voices heard.
Already detained once for protesting on the square, three US Christians were forcefully dragged from the site as they prayed publicly, a statement on their behalf said.
"We were in Tiananmen Square publicly praying for the people of China when police forcefully dragged us across the street," Reverend Patrick J. Mahoney, one of the three, was quoted as saying while in custody.
Meanwhile two British and two US activists who staged a dramatic pro-Tibet protest on Wednesday near the stadium where the Olympics will open in Beijing have been deported from China, their campaign group said in a statement.
The two Britons, who helped unfurl giant "Free Tibet" banners, arrived back in London on Thursday and warned the protests would continue in China.
China has painted the Games as a celebration of three decades of economic reforms and hopes the event will showcase a rapidly modernising country.
But activists seeking to pressure China have vowed to use the Games to raise awareness of their causes, which include Beijing's rule of Tibet, arrests of dissidents, Internet censorship and gripes about Chinese foreign policy.
A total of 127 athletes have called on China's President Hu Jintao to seek a peaceful solution to the Tibet issue and improve the human rights situation, according to an open letter posted online.
The athletes, including more than 40 competing in the Games, urged Hu "to protect freedom of expression, freedom of religion and freedom of opinion in your country, including Tibet".
An estimated 1,500 Tibetans staged a protest in Nepal, with monks and nuns praying and chanting mantras gathered next to a popular Buddhist monastery.

I don't know about that...
Well, we certainly aren't ever going to find out.
Nader is great man, but that doesn't come from his futile campaign efforts. He knows Barack is better than McShame, and he knows the country is worse off--exponentially-- than it was eight years ago. At the same time, he knows perfectly well he has no chance of winning. He'd have a better chance of getting his needed message out by moving somewhere where he could actually win a Rep seat somewhere and work from there to build a party.
I didn't care about Nader's candidacy until recently. People are tired of his show and he will get fewer votes now than he did in 2,000. However, I'm worried, and annoyed, by his campaign now. I underestimated the power of racism in this country. Barack will win this next election, but I'm afraid by a margin too small to overwhelm election theft.
You will not enjoy eight more years of this.

Obama Could be in Trouble
In Campaign 2008, this thinking holds that Americans -- faced with severe economic troubles -- will throw the Republicans out of the White House and elect a Democrat.
However, this economic determinism may no longer hold sway in a nation that is as inundated with media as the United States is. The ability to float false "themes" against one candidate or another and have the major media constantly repeat the propaganda is an extraordinarily powerful force in deciding American elections.
As we describe in our book Neck Deep, millions of Americans went to the polls in November 2000 believing a number of false claims that had been circulated about Vice President Gore (including the bogus notion that he had been part of a plan to sell nuclear secrets to China, when those secrets actually had been compromised during the Reagan years.)
