Your Majority Report |
Practiced Liar
Submitted by SEDER on Thu, 07/24/2008 - 9:02am.
Rove sent written replies to House Judiciary Committee questions regarding the Don Seigelman case. TPM has the docs here's an example:
Below is a sample of the Q&A. Rove's answer is in italics, and is
I'm just starting to dig into the Q& A, but am I the only one to notice a hole the size of a truck in his reply here? He only denies any contact with DOJ or Alabama officials- not "any individual other than Dana Simpson".. Bill Canary comes to mind, and of course, Rove would never have to ask Bill Canary to communicate anything to the US Atty. in Alabama, because Canary had his own ideas and Canary is married to the US Atty in Alambama.

With a stroke of the pen, President George Bush signs a new bill
A tribute to one of America’s great heroes, this bill names a highway, not to one who gave their life for democracy’s freedom, but to the arch angel, Tim Russert.
Let us all bow our heads in prayer at the altar of one of this country’s finest leaders.

The Greatest Threat America Has Ever Faced: the GOP?
The Mother of All Messes
By PAUL CRAIG ROBERTS
Republicans are sending around the Internet a photo of a cute little boy whose T-shirt reads: “The mess in my pants is nothing compared to the mess Democrats will make of this country if they win Nov. 2nd.”
One can only wonder at the insouciance of this message. Are Republicans unaware of the amazing mess the Bush regime has made?
It is impossible to imagine a bigger mess. Republicans have us at war in two countries as a result of Republican lies and deceptions, and we might be in two more wars--Iran and Pakistan--by November. We have alienated the entire Muslim world and most of the rest.

Dominionists, pulpit politics and a ‘special offering’ for a political campaign
By Mel Seesholtz, Ph.D.
Online Journal Contributing Writer
Jul 24, 2008, 00:19
The legal minions of Christian Dominionism have been busy for some time finding ways pastors can use the pulpit for political purposes. The Alliance Defense Fund, a group of lawyers dedicated to realizing the Dominionist goal of marrying church and state, has taken another step in that direction.
The Pulpit Initiative
Reclaiming pastors’ constitutional right to speak Truth from the pulpit
On Sunday, September 28, 2008, we are seeking pastors who will preach from the pulpit a sermon that addresses the candidates for government office in light of the truth of Scripture. The sermon is intended to challenge the Internal Revenue Code’s restrictions by specifically opposing candidates for office that do not align themselves and their positions with the Scriptural truth. By standing together and speaking with one voice, it is our hope to recapture the rightful place of pastors and churches in American life. [italics added

On learning, blogging & being part of a group
I wanted to say hi! to Lucille and share my thoughts on the Sam Seder Show blog. I've been a "guest" here for a long time and only got the nerve to post a few times. Blogs are educational because they can bring a diverse group of people together from long distances. There are many types, of course, grouped mostly by subject. But size can have an impact. I read DailyKos because a lot of smart people write there, but I don't feel like I could be part of that group. This blog is small enough to feel like a good party where you get to meet friends of friends. So Lu, I just wanted to suggest that you enjoy reading the smart people here and share some of the things you know. It's like a party, you might start a conversation with someone then he/she walks away. But keep talking, we're all enjoying the conversation.

Breaking! Teamsters Go Green: Leave Pro-Drilling Group
... and Now Oppose ANWR Drilling
This is big.
Great news for all of us who seek a Blue/Green Alliance! The Teamsters today left the ANWR coalition, a group in favor of drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Jim Hoffa has just announced that the Teamsters are pulling out of the coalition supporting drilling in ANWR and are shifting their support to efforts to build coalitions with green groups to create a sustainable energy economy around sources like solar, wind and geothermal.
"We are not going to drill our way out of the energy problems we are facing—not here and not in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge," Hoffa told labor and environmental activists at an Oakland, Calif., summit on good jobs and clean air. "We must find a long-term approach that breaks our dependence on foreign oil by investing in the development of alternate energy sources like solar, wind and geothermal power."

This idiot client of mine who lives in a bubble and likes to pretend that reality doesn't exist...whose husband left her for his lover this morning, citing golf as the real reason for his 2 hour departure, and is sending their children away for a couple of weeks so they can work on their marriage and she's holding us at bay against our will - we'd love to tear into him with interrogatories and subpoenas. Meanwhile, his lover's husband owns the golfstore where he gets his goods...they're divorcing, btw, after the shopowner, upon finding out about the affair, redecorated their house with a golfclub, and slapped her around a little. He filed, not her.
And she (our client) hasn't seen a gynecologist in years.

I'm listening to msnbc for a moment this am and the beat-to-death subject of the day is poll results the show Obama is the riskier choice for president. Why is this treated as news I ask myself? A self serving poll that results in percentages without substance and become the news food of the day. Because I'm just waking up, this thought percolates through my consciousness and makes the connection with something else in our would that is like this.
Nurdles are the production element of plastics and Langmuir Circulation in the north east pacific ocean collects the detritus into the plastic island.

This is a wonderful clip. Matt Simmons is the author of ‘Twighlight in the Desert’, is a leading US investment banker, and a long-term advocate of the peak oil argument. When he was asked to go on CNBC’s ‘Fast Money’ to discuss the high oil prices, he clearly stunned the presenters with his forthright analysis of society’s current perilous situation. When asked if $147 a barrel is a ‘wake up call’ he replied “yes, but we’re not having a wake up call, we’re having a witch hunt for who got us here”, a succinct analysis of the current world situation. What was especially fascinating to watch was when he was asked for his prognosis of the near future.

Giuliani's son sues Duke over golf team dismissal
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - The son of former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani is suing Duke University, claiming his golf coach manufactured accusations against him to justify kicking him off the team to whittle the squad.
Andrew Giuliani, a 22-year-old rising senior, contends he had dreams of becoming a professional golfer and was dismissed without cause from the golf team in February without a chance to defend himself. He said in a statement Thursday that he sued ``to make sure this doesn't happen to anyone else at Duke.''
``This has been heartbreaking,'' Giuliani's mother, Donna Hanover, said in a statement. ``We tried for many months to convince members of the Duke administration that this situation should be corrected and we are sad that we have now had to turn to the court.''
The 198-page lawsuit was filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court by Durham attorney Robert Ekstrand. Ekstrand did not immediately return a message seeking comment.

Russia contemplates using Cuba to refuel nuclear bombers
Russia is considering the use of bases in Cuba for its nuclear bombers, in a move that revives memories of the 1962 Cuban missile crisis, according to reports in a Russian newspaper.
Russian military sources said that Moscow is contemplating using Cuba as a refuelling base for its nuclear-bomb carrying aircraft. The move would be in retaliation for the Bush administration's plan to site a missile defence shield in Europe.
Russia objects vehemently to the Pentagon's plan. It says the US's proposed system in Poland and the Czech republic – which formally agreed a deal with Washington last week – poses a direct threat to Russia and its security.
According to a report in Monday's Izvestiya newspaper - which closely reflects Kremlin thinking - Russia now wants to use Cuba as a base for its long-range Tu-160 and Tu-95 strategic nuclear bombers. Citing a "highly-placed military source", the paper said discussions had taken place.

Wash Post: "CBS Admits to Editing McCain's Iraq Answers"
Joe Sudbay (DC) · 7/24/2008 08:15:00 AM ET · Link
That headline, "CBS Admits to Editing McCain's Iraq Answers" in the print edition of the Washington Post sure caught my eye this morning. Pretty interesting admission, so I figured I'd post it. But, that's not the online title. As you can see, in "The Trail," that piece has as much more innocuous title, "McCain's Interview on CBS." Yes, it's McCain's interview on CBS, but it's a whole lot more than that:
In response to critics, led by MSNBC anchor Keith Olbermann, CBS News Senior Vice President Paul Friedman noted the full transcript and video were available online. He added in a statement: "The report was edited under extreme time constraints and one piece of tape was put in the wrong order. Fortunately, this did not in any way distort what Senator McCain was saying."
Democrats quickly seized on McCain's statement in the interview, saying that it contained a remarkable gaffe for a politician who's supposed to be an expert on the Iraqi conflict.
As Democrats eagerly pointed out, the awakening started months before the surge in troops was announced in January of 2007. Troops did not actually get deployed until March of 2007, long after the awakening began.
So, in fact, if CBS News Senior Vice President Paul Friedman knew the actual issues involved in his network's editing mistake, he'd know that CBS did distort what McCain was saying.

Polls Schmolls
Anyone worried about Obama's chances need only check the Betting Lines. I did a quick check of a few online betting site in the US, Caribbean and Europe for the numbers, here is what I found:
Right now Obama is at 1/3 or 2/5 world wide, which means a $100 bet will return only $33 or $40 net.
Mc Cain is at a little over 2/1 which means a $100 bet will net about $220.
The total money outlay right now stands at about Obama 66% McCain 32% Clinton 2%.
Okay all you Realpolitik practitioners out there, who's numbers would you trust, Zogby or Vegas? :)

This "mark" will be required to legally partake in the end-time economic system.
Some Futurists believe that the Antichrist will be assassinated half way through the Tribulation, being revived and indwelt by Satan.
The Antichrist will continue on for three and a half years following this "deadly wound".
well...

i need some wheels therapy!
what i'm starting with for my tri-umph projects...
I really hope we round up
I really hope we round up all the evil bastards in the Cheney/Bush administration and drop them off in Abu Ghraib prison and let the Iraqis deal with those war criminals. If they don't want to face justice under our set of rules, let them face justice under the newly liberated Iraqi set of rules.
Everyone who has stood up and publicly lied for this war crimes administration needs to face punishment of equal severity. It should be as far reaching as possible in order to send the harshest message to any future mass murderers that such behavior will not go unpunished, that you better not think you'll escape just because you're the pretty dumb blonde in the justice department who did nothing but claim 'I don't remember' when under oath in front of Congress.
Those people who told us Impeachement would die
in the Judiciary, they need to look up who the witness' are hehehe :)
