The grand illusion
The truth about Rudy
“If somebody can tell me what he did on 9/11 that was so good, I’d love to hear it. All he did was give information on the TV”
NYFD Deputy Chief Jim Riches, whose firefighter son died on 9/11.
UPDATED: I don't know if I'd take an ad from a republican running for President, the Rudy ad is provided by Google. Their algorithm must think post like these indicate this is a good place for him to get cash. I like the irony. I may dedicate a day to exclusive Rudy posts.

NYFD
They're going to follow him around asking "why is he so great?" That's going to be so much fun.
PINHEADED OBFUSCATID

As the bodies fell, Rudy said..
"Thank God George Bush is President".
What the !@#!@$!#$ does that mean?
Why wasn't he thinking, "My God, how could I have been so stupid as to put the Command and Control Center in THE MAIN TERRORIST TARGET OF ALL TIMES??"

Valerie Plame
Can that redheaded lawyer at the hearing about Valerie Plame be charged with lieing under oath? After all she insisted that her knowledge of that particular law was without equal and that Plame was not covert. (I have too many windows open to google her name.)
Victoria Toensing
She can be. They gave her a week to keep her testimony open to correct herself. I have no idea what came of that. She's a Liar, I mean a Lawyer. Same thing usually.
Do I recall correctly...
...that Victoria Toensing was instrumental in writing the law barring the outing of covert agents?
Or was it some other law that she was instrumental in writing? She was (I think) testifying as an expert.
She was a yung un...
When it happened. She probably did little more than set the tables. But you can call that instrumental. Still, its well acknowledged even by the CIA that Valerie was a COVERT CIA agent. She is one of the Pinheaded Obfuscatid types to come around of late. I've still got that recorded if you need a replay Crank.
Fitzgerald
has finally revealed the official report that she was covert, and this Toensing woman was all over the place as the expert who co-wrote the law, assuring everyone she wasn't covert. What a tool.

Can the “Axis of Oil” Topple the US Dollar?
The People’s Bank of China, the Bank of Japan, and Arab Oil kingdoms have been the key linchpins in limiting the US dollar’s losses by buying US Treasury debt.
http://news.goldseek.com/GoldSeek/1178038676.php
...while Tokyo’s financial warlords and Arab Oil Kingdoms are firmly committed to the defense of the US dollar, how Beijing decides to use its $1.2 trillion of wealth would have much bigger ramifications for financial and commodities markets worldwide.
The slow pace of yuan appreciation could invite “veto-proof” US Congressional protectionist legislation against Chinese exports in the second half of this year. Until now, Congressional efforts to get China to move toward a more flexible exchange rate with threats of tariffs have been frustrated by the leverage exerted by the Chinese through their huge ownership of US Treasury debt.
But if the US Congress slaps tariffs on Chinese imports into the US this year, it might cause Beijing to switch its allegiance to the “Axis of Oil,” a loosely aligned alliance of top oil producers, who are slowly chipping away at the US dollar’s allure, and aim to thwart American economic and foreign policy at every turn.

Open Letter to Cindy Sheehan
Open Letter to Cindy Sheehan
Posted by adi11235 on May 29th, 2007
Dear Ms. Sheehan,
You have recently written an entry in your diary which, if you’ll pardon me the metaphor, hands in your resignation to the anti-war movement. Even though I have not gone through the same experiences, I strongly sympathize with everything you say in it, and I think I may help clarify some things you might not yet be aware of.
Your thoughtful disillusionment with left-wing and right-wing politics echoes the feeling that other reasonable people, who desire change for the better but realize that politics is always the same song-and-dance, are eventually faced with. You are far from being alone.
To me, the most poignant passage in your entry is this:
The most devastating conclusion that I reached this morning, however, was that Casey did indeed die for nothing. His precious lifeblood drained out in a country far away from his family who loves him, killed by his own country which is beholden to and run by a war machine that even controls what we think.
You, and at least three thousand other mothers of soldiers, as well as tens of thousands of Iraqi mothers, are justified in demanding justice. But such justice will never be granted you by the government, whether it be Republican or Democrat.
...
Some say
that kind of language incites agitation.
Peace, tolerance, harmony still exist even if in my dreams.
Thanks for that Sheehan
Thanks for that Sheehan comment posting Alice.
And fuckoff with your nutcake rants nobody.

Ideas Cannot Be Killed

5/30
A few days ago, while analyzing the expenses involved in the construction of three submarines of the Astute series, I said that with this money "75,000 doctors could be trained to look after 150 million people, assuming that the cost of training a doctor would be one-third of what it costs in the United States.” Now, along the lines of the same calculations, I wonder: how many doctors could be graduated with the one hundred billion dollars that Bush gets his hands on in just one year to keep on sowing grief in Iraqi and American homes. Answer: 999,990 doctors who could look after 2 billion people that today do not receive any medical care.
More than 600,000 people have lost their lives in Iraq and more than 2 million have been forced to emigrate since the American invasion began.
In the United States, around 50 million people do not have medical insurance. The blind market laws govern how this vital service is provided, and prices make it inaccessible for many, even in the developed countries. Medical services feed into the Gross Domestic Product of the United States, but they do not generate conscience for those providing them nor peace of mind for those who receive it.
The countries with less development and more diseases have the least number of medical doctors: one for every 5,000, 10,000, 15,000, 20,000 or more people. When new sexually transmitted diseases appear such as AIDS, which in merely 20 years has killed millions of persons, -- while tens of millions are afflicted, among them many mothers and children, although palliative measures now exist-- the price of medications per patient could add up to 5,000, 10,000 or up to 15,000 dollars each year. These are fantasy figures for the great majority of Third World countries where the few public hospitals are overflowing with the ill who die piled up like animals under the scourge of a sudden epidemic.
To reflect on these realities could help us to better understand the tragedy. It is not a matter of commercial advertising that costs so much money and technology. Add up the starvation afflicting hundreds of millions of human beings; add to that the idea of transforming food into fuels; look for a symbol and the answer will be George W. Bush.
When he was recently asked by an important personality about his Cuba policy, his answer was this: “I am a hard-line President and I am just waiting for Castro’s demise.” The wishes of such a powerful gentleman are no privilege. I am not the first nor will I be the last that Bush has ordered to be killed; nor one of those people who he intends to go on killing individually or en masse.
“Ideas cannot be killed”, Sarría emphatically said. Sarría was the black lieutenant, a patrol leader in Batista’s army who arrested us, after the attempt to seize the Moncada Garrison, while three of us slept in a small mountain hut, exhausted by the effort of breaking through the siege. The soldiers, fuelled by hatred and adrenalin, were aiming their weapons at me even before they had identified who I was. “Ideas cannot be killed”, the black lieutenant kept on repeating, practically automatically and in a hushed voice.
I dedicate those excellent words to you, Mr. W. Bush.

Cuba-U.S. negotiations
Cuba-U.S. negotiations continue
in Havana
HAVANA, May 29 (PL). — Representatives from around 100 U.S. companies were continuing negotiations begun here yesterday with Cuba’s food import company ALIMPORT, with the expectation that contracts will be signed for more than $100 million.
During this round of talks, which began with the presence of five U.S. members of Congress, ALIMPORT director Pedro Alvarez affirmed that Cuba is a principal and new potential market for the United States.
Addressing 265 U.S. businesspeople, Alvarez said that from the start of this one-way trade — given that the United States has outlawed the purchase of Cuban goods — and despite the many obstacles, a total of $2.431 billion in U.S. products has been purchased.
He noted that while U.S. restrictions have increased, Cuba has made contact with 4,351 companies from 45 U.S. states, and has established excellent relations with businesspeople and agencies who broadly support the elimination of all obstacles.

Advisers Fault Harsh Methods in Interrogation
By SCOTT SHANE and MARK MAZZETTI
WASHINGTON, May 29 — As the Bush administration completes secret new rules governing interrogations, a group of experts advising the intelligence agencies argue that the harsh techniques used since the 2001 terrorist attacks are outmoded, amateurish and unreliable.
The psychologists and other specialists, commissioned by the Intelligence Science Board, make the case that more than five years after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, the Bush administration has yet to create an elite corps of interrogators trained to glean secrets from terror suspects.
While billions are spent each year to upgrade satellites and other high-tech spy machinery, the experts say, interrogation methods — possibly the most important source of information on groups like Al Qaeda — are a hodgepodge that date from the 1950s, or are modeled on old Soviet practices.
Some of the study participants argue that interrogation should be restructured using lessons from many fields, including the tricks of veteran homicide detectives, the persuasive techniques of sophisticated marketing and models from American history.
The science board critique comes as ethical concerns about harsh interrogations are being voiced by current and former government officials. The top commander in Iraq, Gen. David H. Petraeus, this month sent a letter to troops warning that “expedient methods” using force violated American values.
In a blistering lecture delivered last month, a former adviser to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice called “immoral” some interrogation tactics used by the Central Intelligence Agency and the Pentagon.
But in meetings with intelligence officials and in a 325-page initial report completed in December, the researchers have pressed a more practical critique: There is little evidence, they say, that harsh methods produce the best intelligence.
“There’s an assumption that often passes for common sense that the more pain imposed on someone, the more likely they are to comply,” said Randy Borum, a psychologist at the University of South Florida who, like several of the study’s contributors, is a consultant for the Defense Department.

"China Sentences Former Drug Regulator to Death
SHANGHAI: The former head of China’s top food and drug safety agency was sentenced to death Tuesday after pleading guilty to corruption and accepting bribes, according to the state-controlled news media.
Zheng Xiaoyu, who served as director of China’s Food & Drug Administration from its founding in 1998 until mid 2005, was detained in February as part of a government investigation into the agency that is supposed to be the nation’s food and drug watchdog.
The unusually harsh sentence for the former director comes at a time of heightened concerns about the quality and safety of China’s food and drug system after a series of scandals involving tainted food and phony drugs.
China is also under mounting pressure to overhaul its food export controls after two Chinese companies were accused this year of shipping CONTAMINATED PET FOOD (EMPHASIS ADDED) ingredients to the United States, triggering one of the largest pet food recalls in United States history.

ATLANTA - A man with a rare and dangerous form of tuberculosis ignored doctors' advice and took two trans-Atlantic flights, leading to the first U.S. government-ordered quarantine since 1963, health officials said Tuesday. the tide of Fascism moving slowly but inexorably across the US.
With Cindy Sheehan's announcement this past weekend that she is quitting her anti-war efforts, it is clear there are others who also are tired, hopeless, fatigued and ready to bail out of the near-dead peace movement.
http://www.mikemalloy.com/
The sense of political inertia is palpable and dizzying. There is no furious response to atrocity after atrocity. We now sanction torture? Yawn. We employ mercenaries to kill, destroy and loot countries we have invaded without provocation? Who cares. We are slowly choking to death in a toxic combination of global climate change and attendant environmental breakdown? Let's make fun of Al Gore's professorial demeanor and criticize his home electric bill as he tries desperately to point out what we must deal with if we are to survive global heating and continue as a species.
The list, of course, goes on and on: A broken military; an officer corps that contains an element that truly believes we are battling a cloven-hoofed, horned, Satan in the streets of smoldering third-world countries we have bombed into rubble; a political leadership terrified of a cadre of fundamentalist Christian cultists who quietly dictate both foreign and domestic policy and whose law school "graduates" have thoroughly infiltrated and poisoned our Justice Department; a Secretary of State whose first allegiance is to the oil industry that created her and who obviously is incapable of understanding the depth of the problems her office must confront, much less actually making an attempt to solve those problems; a return to a Gilded Age where one percent of the population controls seventy percent of the wealth, with the gap continuing to expand; a primary and secondary educational system that - with rare exceptions - functions as a holding pen for those who eventually will perform the scut work necessary to maintaining the upper class, or filling the rapidly thinning ranks of a military bereft of honor and now sinking into becoming nothing more than a fist with which a succession of right-wing US demagogues will attempt to beat the rest of the world into submission
But, why continue pointing out the obvious? Most people who come to this page to find out what will be the subject of tonight's Malloy program already are deeply familiar with the sense of the futility in which we all are beginning to emotionally suffocate.
Is it time to stop fighting? Is it time to give up the intellectual and emotional and political resistance and conclude this nation is moving precisely to the configuration programmed into our original documents?

Is the government closing down all opposing viewpoints, or are they just doing what we would do if Rush Limbaugh called for a Democratic President to be violently overthrown? (Oh, wait, nothing would happen then. Alright, if Sam Seder had called for the violent ouster of President Bush? Air America would be facing fines big enough to shut them down, and Sam himself would be facing federal charges of threatening the President.)
In the end, I think the jury is still out on Chavez. I think most fears would be allayed if the broadcast license were to be bid upon rather than simply assigned to a propaganda outlet, much like the old USSR’s TASS agency, to broadcast only pro-Chavez material as is currently happening.
I am not well enough informed to make any sort of final judgement, especially since neither side’s story really passes the sniff test. In cases like this, I do tend to lean towards the freedom of the press, with a whiff of that old bit from Hippocrates (though not from the Oath itself), “First do no harm.” If RCTV or Globovision intended harm, there are no depths to the contempt in which I hold them.
I have never called for armed rebellion against Bush, and I never will. As long as the Constitution is the law of the land, we will be safe in the end. For if anything could be clearer than this truth, I don’t know it: this, too, shall pass. Or, as Shelley put it,
“My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings,
Look on my Works ye Mighty, and despair!
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.”
...
[If Sam did what RCTV did he'd be gone by the next day..not five yrs later...]
& don't think I haven't been waiting for Sam..ok not Sam..but Janeane to have done exactly that...
Holy cow
Crank. I see it.

CIA ordered analysts to
CIA ordered analysts to cherry-pick intel for Iraq war. In the book The Italian Letter, authors Peter Eiser and Knut Royce reveal that Alan Foley, the head of the CIA’s Weapons Intelligence Non-Proliferation and Arms Control Center, cherry-picked evidence to make the case for war in Iraq:
One day in December 2002, Foley called his senior production managers to his office. He had a clear message for the men and women who controlled the output of the center’s analysts: “If the president wants to go to war, our job is to find the intelligence to allow him to do so.” The directive was not quite an order to cook the books, but it was a strong suggestion that cherry-picking and slanting not only would be tolerated, but might even be rewarded.

Rudy and George on 911
Rudy and George on 911
I liken the Rudy and George appearances on 911 to an experience of mine. I've taken pictures backstage at the state ballet. Some of them are quite beautiful. But it is like stealing. Hundreds of people are involved in bringing to fruition that moment when the performance passes through the proscenium. Of course the images are beautiful.
Rudy and George were over taken by events. They put their wee-wee in the zipper ... [wrong simile] Their coterie helped them with their performance as they stood on the lectern of fate and let the cameras point at them. Of course they had to be ready. Years of rehearsal prepared them to speak through their own personal proscenium arch (your TV.) I love it when politicians speak on a theatrical stage; it is clear they are performing.
But did they bring anything extraordinary to the situation in 2001 ? I run a spotlight sometimes. I run the light to the best of my ability whether its a local community show or on the main stage at Woodstock '99. That is the simile that fits. I understand Rudy and George are quite charming on a one to one level. And that is the ability they bring to the main stage.
Oh lord
talk about blatently stealing ideas from Evo...
although, h only cut his salary
& yet there were no corporate backers to make any portion of it up as with RRRRRRRRRRRromney...

see any autonomous zones in Mexico?

It is my impression that there are areas where non locals are not welcome. I imagine they are quite extensive (meaning many smaller zones that are not unified in any way) because there are a lot of back roads in Mexico.
:) Oops.This Bioyche
Specify,
non-locals is such a broad stroke jbenet. Canadians are welcome just about anywhere. Most places are open to non-locals.
THAT IS CRUEL PUNISHMENT INDEED MMRules. Take that back.

Cartoon Coup D’Etat
The disproportionate criticisms have more to do with Chávez’s challenge to the unaccountable elite that clearly limits ‘editorial pluralism’ by using its ownership and control of the media to present its own privileged interests as those of all Venezuelans. Accustomed to operating their lucrative commercial television channels for decades without democratic oversight, this elite has come to believe this privileged position is their ‘right.’

But all is not lost for the anti-Chávez opposition — RCTV can still broadcast on cable and satellite, and should there be news it doesn’t like, it will be free to black it out with as many Looney Tunes cartoons as it likes.
