How does an atheist and anti-war progressive view Memorial Day?

Do I think of "just" wars, like WWII which my father served in?

Do I think of Viet Nam where my uncle Butch died, leaving a Tchakirides name on a war memorial?

Do I wonder why the religious pray for peace on Memorial Day - especially the politicians who vote to continue funding war?

Do I remember Jefferson and Washington and Lincoln who have great memorials in Washington DC?

Do I wish Memorial Day would not require the generational updates of new wars, but could serve to remember at a time when war would not occur again?

Do I hope my grandsons will never need to be memorialized on this day?

Do I wonder why those who oppose wars and campaign against them get no memorials?
