ok...time to hit the breeze, Sorry Sam
.Ron Kuby To Join Air America Radio
By Jacques Steinberg
Ron Kuby, the liberal-leaning, sometime television analyst who lost his job as co-host of a talk show on WABC radio in New York City at least partly to make room for Don Imus, will return to radio on Monday, on the Air America network.
Mr. Kuby’s program will occupy the 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. slot, the network said in a statement being prepared for release Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Kuby was one of a series of guest hosts in that time period in recent weeks, following the departure from Air America of Randi Rhodes.
sam I really think this is good news for you in the long run
and I am psycho(ic) you know...more opening up will begin to happen...
Call NovaM !
I'm sure they're waiting.
I'm jumping ship as soon as I find out you've got a slot, Sam.
damn damn damn~~it's wrong
damn damn damn~~it's wrong
AAR is dead to me
The World Needs More SEDER!!!
I see a dead network...
AAR.
Once shame on them.
Twice shame on Sam.
What More Can We Say about AAR?
Well Sam, I guess they're just not that in to you.
Writing to AArgh?
eya kthc
writing always helps you if nothing else.
AArgh's response to polls, write ins, petitions, phone calls in to management, was to ignore them.
the evidence suggests that the fat cat's installed an off switch after they got it from the Drobneys and that they get rid of the 'uppity' types.
suprised they have Thom Hartman on.
jump ship now Harold..
I did as soon as I heard how they treated Sam...
now I subscribe to nova m as an affirmation that sam will soon be there...
I just canceled
fucking crooks delayed the reimbursement a week. They had just reupped my subscription automatically without informing me of it. Mother fucking thieves. I want to see my authorization for that crap.
On the positive side I'll get a nice chunk to send NovaM who will own them soon enough :)
jump ship now Harold... -mhappenow
I'm listening...
Make the pitch. How much? What do I get for my subscription?
I figure I could still listen to Thom with his free podcasts; and the AAR weekend shows.
I'd miss Rachel, but she's on MSNBC more and more...
Closure day!
Is this a joke? Wow! How is this not announcmed on the AAR site before the NYT site? Nice leak control by AAR! This is so par for the course! I hope you didn't have to find out this way versus in a face to face meeting with the execs! If not, it doesn't surprise me. What a bunch of shitheads.
Welp Sammy, I am truly happy for you. I can't tell you how mixed my feelings were on our staying on at AAR considering they management decisions that have and continue to be largely un-progressive and hopelessly miguided.
If ratings, listener loyalty and liberal-networking are not what AAR suits are looking for in a host, then you are better served talking with Shelly and Anita over at Nova M and hopefully you and Maron can return together and with a revolutionary format, or break out on your own.
That's it for me, Nova M shows much more promise for real progressives and I am happy to go over and join their founder's club and ditch AAR. I can always catch Rachel on the Teevee and Thom, well, he'll always be Thom. I don't look forward to his show like I did yours.
I'll write Shelly and let him know and maybe a strong showing from your fan base over there will help our cause and hopefully you'll end up over there. I have no doubt that you'll land on your feet.
harold
you can get the weekend shows from green960 and Thom too.
HEY SAM
When can I start donating to you directly? Is anyone else getting a refund. I've got almost a years worth of subscription coming back to it and I don't need it. I'm going to find a way to donate it to Sam even if it annoys the shit out of him.
AAR is a joke (and not a very funny one)
Listening to AAR is harder than listening to far right wing stations because of what the CLAIM to be and what they are not, a liberal radio station. Sam, Mark, Malloy and Al with katherine have been the only worthwhile shows and they are all long gone. Sam's show was the best most informative and fun show to listen to for the WHOLE time it was on. Thanks Sam for getting me through most of the worst POTUS term ever.
replays here too
http://www.progressivetalk1150.com/cc-common/podcast.html
ARRghhhhh
It only took the Greens a year to gut AAR.
I dunno; NovaM is a bit odd.
I guess it only because most of the affiliates get their programming from syndicated shows.
But $100 for Malloy and Rhodes?
I'm only luke-warm on listening to those two.
AAR is $70, and I get 4 shows? Plus more if I care to listen?
Value-wise, I just dunno
When can I start donating to you directly?
im on board with that too!
harold harold
can't believe you're still on board with these assholes
novaM needs subscriptions so they can hire new talent hint hint nudge nudge
and malloy alone is worth the full price of the membership
Sam,
If I was a vindictive person, and I had designed and setup a website for a company that could not appreciate my talents, I would use my backdoor pass key to sabotage that website.
Just thinking aloud, on the blog.....
RIP
Well I am certainly not going to listen to Kuby remind me every day that he was mentioned in The Big Lebowski. Hopefully you and Marc will have an announcement ready by tomorrow's M v S. I can't do w/o a regular Sammy fix. THANKS FOR EVERYTHING YOU HAVE DONE AND WILL DO SAM!
Sam
I hate AAR. I subscribe to Nova soley because Sam sometimes subs for Mike Malloy. Just tell me where to pay my money so I can hear you, Sam, and I'm there.
60th: Email for this Shelley?
If you want me to hold off until you ask her about a "strong showing," I will.
From Liberal Talk Radio Blog
BREAKING NEWS: Air America taps Ron Kuby as permanent afternoon host
http://ltradio.blogspot.com/2008/06/breaking-news-air-america-taps-ron-k...
60th Street: Probably leaked to NYT
...partly on the idea of giving the story some legs, but mainly because Sam is the webmaster, and Green was too chicken-shit to tell him in person. You know, hiding behind his good nature. I just left a job where my manager was full of passive aggressive bullshit like that. I found a great place to work now, where i actually feel valued and involved. Sam will too.
Harold I pay monthly
its' $9 something a month through paypal, totally painless
but it's up to you obviously. The problem is that aar is delegitimizing progressive talk, people look at it and say, see i was right liberal talk is boring, liberal talk cannot catch fire, while of course, it is not liberal is totally faux, and the host with the best ratings gets sacked because he DOES catch fire and has a devoted following that bothers to write and email and plead
fuch them all, i despise them
what a complete disappointment
I'm not surprised with AAR's decision but to see it in print is heartbreaking.
Sam I agree this is the best thing that could have happened. You're talented, funny, brilliant and have a loyal following. Why work for people who don't appreciate or respect you and are completely clueless?
I'm canceling my premium membership...
Big Lebowski
Maybe we can get Jeff Bridges or the Cohen brothers to denounce and reject Kuby.
on board with these assholes
Ok, I guess somebody's gonna get shoved into defending a few of the remaining 'originals'.
They're still Rachel Maddow's home. And I like Bender.
And Ring of Fire
NovaM just seems to be putting all of their eggs (both of them) in one basket.
Oops
Shelley's a boy. Whatev.
And McCauliffe will be on the teevee saying this is 100% FALSE!
Breaking News:
Clinton: Open to being Obama's vice president
The former first lady makes the statement to New York lawmakers
manager was full of passive aggressive bullshit like that
you are so right Spunky...makes all the difference doesn't it. This is why I work out of my home...just can't stand the funky political bullshit...
glad you are in a good place now
next it will be sam!
It seems like Sam found out the way we did.
By a news release. They didn't even have the decency to sit Sam down and tell him first? What assholes!!!!
Jimmy Carter just announced he will endorse Obama!
Just my opinion
I have been listening to Hal Sparks this week and I have to say that I am very pleasantly surprised. He does a really good job. Both Sam Seder and Marc Maron also do good radio so why can't AAR make room for all three? Three hours is too much for most hosts, even the best of them. If they cut down the shows to two hours, all three could have a show. Personally I'd rather hear more voices every day than one or two all day long.
Jimmy Carter
About damn time!!1
screw that Harold
I'm not interested in giving AAR 1 cent. Half an hour of Malloy is better than all their trash. Good luck with your decision.
smack dab
I think you are in a bit of a dream world...we are talking aargh
remember?
I am definitely thinking of cancelling my premium membership
if only to send the message I'm tired of AAR's crap too.
I could ditch the Premium and go with just Rachel's show.
But $50 for one (like NovaM) show just doesn't seem as cool as $70 for all of them.

thanks sunshine jim
for pointing me here. I was checking both, always not sure of protocol for answering notes left at the end~haha~hate to toot my own horn by reposting in the new, as if you'd all be denied my brilliance in the previous post. Anyway, been checking the AAR page and depressingly few comments there. I think so many have just given up.
I like Rachael too, Harold
But because i care, i can't watch her get screwed like so many other AAR casualties. Too often to count i've thought "That's a bad decision, but i'm sure they'll make good on it." Funny thing, i keep seeing incredibly and obvious BAD decisions and amazingly few good ones, and NEVER a bad one getting corrected (Lionel for example). I'd rather catch her when she's somewhere stable. I can't watch the impending back-stab.
Half an hour of Malloy is better than all their trash.
See, I don't consider all the other AAR hosts 'trash'.
Maybe one or two, and they do syndicate quite a few smaller names too, that I probably don't like either.
But to lump Rachel and David, Thom, RFK Jr., Pap, all together as 'trash', is just generalizing outta anger.
Remember, The two Chris', Vanessa, Chad and even dear Lauren still get paychecks from the 'assholes'. Doesn't mean they are, too.
harold you really dont have a point
Ring of fire is free! I download it for free every weeek! and you like bender, aawwwright
gloriosky, lebowski! you're funny! And it's not Shelly, it's Shelby and its a he, he's the founder of NovaM and one of the original air america radio founders, when air america was full of hope and had a chance before being screwed over by various clueless monkeys
you are right Harold...I like all the remaining original
talent too...but rachel is on Nova M too...she will be calling her own shots soon... I love ring of fire...Thom is on Nova M too.
AAR is $70, and I get 4+ shows?
Just my 2 cents Harold...I can understand your perspective and that you want to get the most for your cash, but for me, the point here is to send a loud and clear message to the AAR management. Their decision today, in effect, is to amputate the very earliest and most passionate constituency of the AAR listenership and a send clear signal that they want to reinvent themselves as something other than what the initial lineup represented: true blue liberal dissent against fascist conservative idealogues.
AAR 2.whatever-the-fuck wants to be more centrist, less honest and ever-cautious in their dialogue. This is exactly the attitude that allowed the right-wing to take control of the media in this country.
The suits, in their renowned infinite wisdom, feel that now that the Democrats are poised to take over the Executive Branch, they don't want AAR to be known as the firebrand liberal network. They conveniently ignore the fact that, were it not for the outspokenness of people like Seder, progressive bloggers and passionate protesters all over the U.S., who knows what it would have taken to light a fire under the collective asses of the Democratic leadership over the past 7.5 years. I can't imagine.
I have long been awaiting this day to both tell AAR to fuck off forever and to join Nova M's Founders club with the $100 annual gift subscription. I hope that I will be part of a large enough exodus over the next few days from AAR to make an impact for both networks. I think this is the strongest message we can send and if the Drobny's over at NovaM need any convincing as to Sam's fan base, I'm happy to help.
What a Bunch
of BULLSHIT.After all sam has done to make him wait and then this.
Sam,if you can afford it,delete the entire AAR website and then quit. You shouldnt have ANYTHING to do with that network anymore.
We will follow you and we will pay!!!!!!!!!.I'd give 20 bucks a week for 4 or 5 days of seder v maron.
unbelievable!
y'know, Kubys not a bad person or broadcaster, but this decision makes little to no sense. It almost makes me believe that these people didnt really listen to him over the years...he was all but a commie for a long, long time, and he has moved a little center, but is way left for what they usually go for.
It sounds like a decision that Mark Green had a bit to do with. I doubt that Kuby won the ratings or listener email count....and Green and his buddies are very into the NY-centric old-timey hosts...there is nothing edgy or interesting there; its all tried and true and been done before. I'm assuming that they are putting him on alone...? The thing that was interesting about him with Curtis was the back and forth between the two of them. Curtis was the fire in that partnership and also the humor. Putting Kuby on alone is a mistake. but, I wont be listening, so what do I care?
I wonder if Rachel is starting to notice that shes the only woman left?...maybe they can give Kuby a female partner!...like Lizz Winstead!! And then we can start again!
I don't know why they would let a multi talent workhorse like Sam go unless they are keeping him on the webpage thing or offering him another slot....and I don't know if Nova M is necessarily the only place to land, and I don't know if thats even right for someone who can do TV and writing.
Good luck Sammy....its a sad day, but we will follow you wherever you land or even if you want to do a subscription show.
Ive been listening to Randi on Nova, which I record the stream of with Replay A/V, for those of you who want an alternative for AAR's premium...tho I would strongly suggest subscribing to Nova as if it was a charity you were supporting...its not so much about the programming now, as it is about the whole issue of having liberal voices out there....AAR has dumbed themselves down too much...but Nova is still edgy a bit. I am happy to say that what I heard abotu Randi being so much better and more relaxed on Nova is true.
I cant take much of her, but I have a ton of content anyway...I just miss how special AAR was.
Thats over now, and as far as I'm concerned, unless they suddenly announce that they are gonna give Sam a different slot, and perhaps Maron too, fuck 'em; I'm finished.
Mark Green is a loser...he was a loser in politics and hes a loser in broadcasting.
Whoever this Phillipe Collin guy is, obviously isn't using his background in interactive media for shit...I dont imagine that Kuby is an interactive sorta broadcaster unless you put someone next to him....Its all a mystery to me.
But better all in all...and Sam is great at making his way... from selling hotdog buns to making movies, to learning the radio business on the fly to be being an excellent editor of the web page (not to mention his own,) I'm not too worried that the path will be clear to him...
Looking forward to the vodcast tomorrow. Hope I'm gonna be a round for it!

I understand, Harold
we all have a different "line of death" drawn in the sand, and different ways to evaluate crossing it. I certainly don't think you're wrong if you continue to support AAR and the talent you still dig there. If you keep supporting them, i tip my hat to you for making up your own mind. ;-)

Cancelled
I did it and I told them why, wish I could do it again. Now more waiting to find out where Sam lands. There's a special place in hell for people like the Greens.

No shit... It's a sad, sad day for progressive radio.
The World Needs More SEDER!!!
Bender is the self-admitted Anti-Christ
That makes him a-ok in my book.
I'm just having a hard time with it; I was one of the very first Premium Members.
I guess if 960's podcasting it all for free, there's not much point.
Poor Lauren'll have to start trying to live off her art.
My point Mire, was that memberships do a lot more than just pay for the show you sign up for. They help pay for all the other stuff that runs a radio network/show.
This mass exodus of Premium members will likely send just the message we want; and if AAR falls apart, for real this time, it will not be a good thing.
Just the same, I'm checking into canceling right now. I'm gonna have to reset all my iTunes links...ugh.
Hilary's Concession
"As I've always said, from Day One, the only reason I was running for President was because I wanted to be the Vice President. Ever since I was a little girl, in Illinois learning to grow crops riding my John Deere Tractor, or in Pennsylvania learning how to load and shoot a shotgun, or whether I was in Arkansas having sex with my dear Uncle Pete, and every other state in the union where I grew up, I have longed with every fiber in my being to be the first female Vice President serving under the first Black President. This is my dream and no one is going to take this dream away from me. Even though I won more popular votes than Obama because many of the states simply do not count - I am more than willing to serve under this man whom, as you know, I have always respected and have always worked for. Yes, you know it, I know it, this has been my dream all along. This has been my plan all along. To become Vice President under President Barack Obama. This is what my entire campaign has been about. This is what my entire life has been about. This is our time! Hope! Hope! Hope! Change! Change! Change! You know it people!"
60th street well said
agree with everything you said
Fuck 'em!
I'm cancelling my sub today! They can kiss my fat, wrinkled ass!
I sent Sam an email of support
Told him to start the internet show and that many of us would be willing to pay to listen. Can't really afford another payment but I'd give something up to listen to Sam.
It would be great to do the show, for awhile anyway, from 3-6 ET to cut into the AAR show he wasn't given.
Harold, just do it. Get your money back from AAR. You can always re up if you want to, but do it for this protest.
and i also agree with Melina's point that novaM should be
supported as a liberal cause regardless of programming, hell we donate to various causes don't we, just sent some money even to the dcccs because i got a solicitation from al gore with some reservations that my money might be spent in promoting some dlc'ers but what the heck, progressive IS a cause and an important one.
Mystic
How did you get her press release ahead of the mainstream media.I love it.

not to worry.
AAR bitter much?
All this sadness on Obama day.
Wow.
To quote Hillary: If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. She's said that a lot when she claimed (quite falsely, I might add) that Obama was "whining" about his treatment from the media.
Now, listening to these Hillary supporters on Randi it's completely bass ackwards.
Can I call them a bunch of PUSSIES and not be seen as a sexist pig?

Blood for Oil, Literally
"Plasma for gas" might not have the same ring to it as "blood for oil," but across the country companies that pay for blood say more people are donating as a way to supplement their incomes amid rising prices for fuel and other commodities.
Recognizing the trend, some labs are actively recruiting donors by enticing them with gas money for simply sitting for 10 minutes with a needle in their arm.
"Donate plasma for gas money," reads a banner outside Las Cruces Biological, a donation center on Main Street in Las Cruces, N.M.
Struggling With the Economy? What can ABC News do or tell you that would help you live your life?
Once donated, plasma — the main component of blood that contains proteins, minerals and hormones — is used by pharmaceutical companies to create potentially life-saving drugs.

welcome to the bloggie.
we're wayyyyyy casual here.
so post away about whatever whenever.
Sam owns this blog so it's a seperate deal from AArgh.
we've watched this all come down from day one. i waited for months after i first heard about AAR.
Janeane had taken some courageous stands and i was delighted she was going to get some airtime.
but the manglement at AAR got weird fairly quick and then ripped of Lizz who helped start the network.
went downhill from there.
personally my main interest was the blogs and theres still show fans blogging everyday, quite a few of them, and i drop in and visit often.
AAR bitter much?
Yes. Very good kthc. I picked up on that too. Coincidence? No way.
IMO Greene's primary motivation for buying AAR was to give himself a platform to promote Hillary. One by one the people who were critical of her were marginalized, or dismissed.
This was done today for a reason.
It also explains some of Hartmann's recent peculiar behavior. JMHO.
Fuck AAR.
if AAR falls apart, for real this time, it will not be a good th
ing, this is where we split ways Harold, it will be a good thing because that's where they need to be, in the crapper, for treating their best people like crap
I guess I already am a NovaM subscriber-I forgot!
So I voiced my opinion on Sam joining their ranks. Maybe they'll listen?
Harold - Now you have power over them
You are part of their total available market TAM. Shouldn't such a bone headed decision impact their penetration into that market? You can double up and help Jones or Novam giving them a double whammy of hurting them and helping their competition.
Fight with your wallet bud.

you've got a friend
the Kuby decision likely....
the decision to hire Kuby is very likely due to the fact that AAR got off the ground with a lot of people who didn't have a radio background. I personally liked it that way - but it's very likely that management feels that if they had actual radio people doing radio, they'd have a more solid radio empire to present and sell ad time with.
i barely listen to AAR anymore. when AAR went up there was no liberal media to speak of. Now we have Keith and Rachel on MSNBC and they're pretty damn good, far as I'm concerned.
i'm liking Hal Sparks a lot, btw.
if it were up to me, i'd have a whole new liberal network with comedians like Sparks, Maron Seder and Garofalo - round the clock satiric and funny liberal radio.
i'd have a whole new liberal network
i think the only way that can happen is for sirius or xm to allocate a new channel with that type of lineup. with their subscription model i suspect they are not as dependent on ad revenues as other radio models are.
I just mean, Mire, it won't be a good thing for liberal radio...
The regressives would be howling about it for decades.
I think AAR deserves to get knocked down a couple notches; it only makes sense.
But there are too many friendly voices on the network still, for me to wish the total demise of all of their jobs.
The 'I told you so' factor from the right would seriously grind on me for years.
my brain went dead----did not realize this was him

great, harold!
so proud of you! now that i think of it, I did not get a refund at the time of my cancellarion, i still had a few months to go,i didn't even know that i could get a refund, or maybe i could not, that was the first incarnation of air america, different story, never mind

AAR is really turning into geezer radio. Dump Lionel, dump Richard Greene, freshen it up for God's sake.
Listen to the listeners.
Why isn't Seder doing a show on Go Left TV?
I wonder
if AAR even had the guts to tell sam in person or,like before, did he have to read about it with the rest of us.
Seder v Maron 5 days a week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We will pay.Heck, maron can do it in his jammies.

I wish i had your faith in events, Lucille. While i rail now against AAR, i'd eat those words without hesitation if they did exactly that. Enshala.

Wow
I recall fondly when AAR first came to my town. I hardly got a wink of sleep. Then one by one they trash everyone, and our station goes to sports. Oh well, I'll stream Ring of Fire from some station; otherwise, it's NovaM (actually, I usually go through KPHX).
Sam, you're WAY too good for AAR. Period.
Besides, I could never get their stream to work. Screw 'em.
It's a lesson for all working folks, though: have a massive chunk of savings because your job is not secure. Save as much as you can to get off-grid, so you won't be freaked out when the power goes out, etc. Plan for the worst, hope for the best.
I'm sure you'll bounce back higher, Sam :)

If they give him mornings he will only be on-line. That is good, but not good enough. You do not get the exposure of being on the radio. He wouldn't get a NY spot they have people there. The afternoon spot is national. It was like Sundays, they put sam on for 1 hour on the radio.

I remember when I listened to AA from 6am to 10pm daily. I remember when Liz got the boot. I was pissed then. I got the feeling that there was no loyality at AAR. Then slowly one by one they were given the boot. The only one left during weekdays if Rachel and she is only there part time. I guess she will have somewhere to go when she gets the boot. I guess I will have to get a second job, this way it won't matter who is on AAR.

After the way hillary has treated obama in the past months(The same way AAR has treated Sam)I would rather see sean hannity than her.
She would be angry and spitefull during the campaign and might sway some voters toward McCain.

Russ Feingold
Dennis Kucinich
Jim Webb
And,yes, ill even go as far as Ron Paul before hilly. His fans are in the millions and would pretty much Gaureentee a win.
Just my 2 cents
Sam .....
You haven't shared, and you don't have to, of course, how you learn about Kuby: Face-to-face from Green or did you learn about it from the NYTimes? Knowledge might help some of us with our anger. Did Green tell you how come you didn't get the 2-5pm (CST) time slot? i.e. What makes Kuby the better/chosen broadcaster? I have never heard of Kuby but, I'm from the mid-west plus, I don't have cable nor broadband to be exposed to the Kuby.
I'm sad you weren't chosen for this time slot - you're a gift as a liberal, humourous, political, intellegent, broadcaster. Furthermore, what saddens me more, is the treatment .... the process liberals use toward their employees. Aren't we suppose to be "better" toward our employees than Republican employers? What is wrong with us? When I think of boomer employers ... I have wanted to believe we were gonna be better .... better with the world; better with society; better with the environment; blah, blah, blah, ..... When that dream was shattered, I thought at least the Democratics would carry-on ..... nope. They've become just as greedy and/or capitalistic as the Republicans (Clintons, Ickes, Peloski, Green, etc.). Then, I thought maybe the democrats of the Democratic Party would hold-on to those liberal values of the Democratic Party .... evidently not at AAR, which I thought was gonna be ran by the liberal wing of the Democratic Party.
I wish the Drobney could have bought back AAR .... they tried but something happened.
I just re-read my writings - I am not an employer. :) :) I'm kinda like Sam, almost out of a job, but not as talented, nor as young, as Sam. :) :)

I haven't listened to them since they bailed from Sirius and screwed all the subscribers. A failed business, as far as I'm concerned.

There would be worse choices for sure, but i'm not in favor of that. And frankly she would probably quadruple the targetable area once the right-wing swift boats hit the water. She's turned herself into a liability.

I'm ready to cancel my premium membership, but only if that is really the best thing to do right now. Is there some other possibility for Sam at AAR? If not, I'll cancel right now.

Initially I thought it would a great ticket Obama & Clinton. The last few months I began to hate her. But, I still think it is a good idea to amass both candidates voters, it will be unbeatable.
remember fondly when aar came to my town
in new orleans we had to start a campaign to get it, sending out leaflets, enlisting family members and friends, pledging support, to the baton rouge station which was considering it at the time but they weren't sure
well we got it finally, but in a reduced format, only randy, and al franken and malloy for some reason, the rest was filled with some local food show and other nonsense, no majority report, which didn't make a difference to me since i listened online anyway and with podcasts, but yes it was exciting at the time, driving late at night if i happened to be out, turn on the radio and hear malloy, gave me a thrill everytime (being used to listening to malloy on a funky old laptop with dial-up!)
Fucking Morons
I can't fucking believe those fucking idiots at AAR.
What makes me even angrier is that aar has become the icon of liberal radio. If it fails, it will be looked on a failure of liberal talk radio, not has the horrible mis-management of a network that if not for the complete incompetence of the suits would have largely successful.
AARRRRGH! I HATE those guys!

The Party for Socialism and Liberation handed out signs calling for an immediate end to the racist checkpoints and ICE raids in the city. As a member group of the ANSWER Coalition, a mainstay at immigrant rights marches and anti-racist rallies, we were warmly received as we marched.
Pamphlets and flyers touting the Gloria la Riva and Eugene Puryear presidential campaign were also distributed. They explained the difference between the PSL’s demands and the Democratic and Republican capitalist duopoly. More importantly, we spoke of the urgent need for socialism, an economic system based on people’s needs over profits.
Many in the crowd were appreciative of the demands for unconditional amnesty, an immediate end to raids and deportations, free access to quality health care and education, and a minimum $15 per hour wage for all workers regardless of their immigration status.
Inside the council chambers, Mayor Torres told a disappointed crowd that she would have to leave before the much anticipated public comments. Her statement was met with loud jeers from the audience and a walkthrough by police.

My Letter to Drobny
I shoved it into every box I could find there and copied it to Malloy and Kathy. Hopefully they won't mind.
L8er! AAR!
Mr. Drobny,
I am writing as a long time listener of Air America and Nova M to let you know personally that I have just joined your Founders Club with the highest contribution of the $100.00 annual gift. I am doing this due to Air America's decision to part ways with Sam Seder in the latest act in positioning themselves as a more centrist network, and effectively silencing true liberal dissent, reporting and overall dialogue.
I have listened to Nova M since its founding and though I currently live in Chicago, I am from Chandler AZ so I have passed the word on to my friends and family about all the progress you have made in moving KPHX forward. I have been impressed and uplifted by your success there considering the overwhelming conservative presence in Arizona. It is a testament to your understanding of the market and your connection to your listeners.
I cancelled my Premium membership when AAR dumped Malloy, despite his high ratings, loyal fan base and just having won an award for his show in NYC, but held off joining the Founder's Club until the day I knew would come when they paid equal respect to Seder. Hopefully, this and other emails and actions from Sam's listenership will help convince you that we are eager to see him join your network. It's no secret that AAR doesn't want people like Malloy and Seder on our national airwaves and that passionate and honest dialogue, high ratings or listener loyalty aren't factors in their programming decisions. It is emblematic of the mentality that has assisted in the branding of Democrats as weak-willed and noodle-spined and, frankly, if I do anything to help take back my party from the fascist creep and milquetoast trepidation that plagues our political climate, it will be to support intelligent and passionate voices like Seder's.
I hope this small act helps you to consider Sam as a future host on your network, more perhaps than you have in the past, and that you continue to position NovaM as true liberal radio as opposed to the flawed paradigm of the utterly lost and flagging Air America Radio. I am happy to now be offically registered at Nova M. Finally! :)
Sincerely...

Hands off my Senator!
pbtrue1 Brown/Sirota/Seder
Sherrod Brown ....an opinion from Cleveland
Letters
What Happened To Sherrod Brown?
Sherrod Let me start by saying that Sen. Sherrod Brown has always been on my short list as one of the "good guys" in Ohio politics. I have supported him, voted for him and greeted his election in 2006 as a sign of hope for the future after a long night of political reaction.
But when the junior senator from Ohio starts to cast votes that remind me of the senior senator from Ohio, and when his stand on pending climate legislation is to the right of John McCain, something has to be said.
The latest news is that Brown will oppose the Lieberman-Warner climate change bill, now called America's Climate Security Act of 2007. Lieberman-Warner has put the environmental movement into a quandary. It is a modest piece of legislation written by modest people. It is not nearly adequate to the challenge we face if we want to keep from cooking the planet. But it is something. It is the only significant piece of climate legislation before Congress with a chance of passage, and most environmentalists have swallowed their misgivings and are supporting it. And yet, even this watered down and compromised piece of legislation is too far out for Ohio's Senate delegation.
Our senators insist that we have to be practical and realistic about global warming legislation. We can't put too much stress on Ohio's antiquated industrial sector. We can't forget that our energy system is built on the energy technology of the 19th century, namely coal. What they are really saying is that we have to protect those interests that have turned Ohio into an industrial and energy version of Jurassic Park.
What they serve up is a banquet of excuses for inaction. They say we must be realistic. We must not rush into something. We must wait for that great getting-up morning when the perfect piece of climate legislation miraculously appears before Congress. What they are really saying is that we must do nothing - nothing in the face of a challenge that promises to wreck our planet and our civilization.
The famous sociologist C. Wright Mills had a term for the realism displayed by our Senate delegation that he first used to describe the nuclear arms race. He called it crackpot realism, a realism that is logical and reasonable at first, but in the end propels us towards madness. That is what George Voinovich and Sherrod Brown are practicing regarding Lieberman-Warner. Crackpot realism.
So we have to face facts that Sherrod Brown is now in the delayer camp in the global warming debate. The problem with the delayer camp is that almost all reputable climate scientists in the world say that the time to start to take action against global warming was yesterday, not the indefinable future when our Senate delegation will be prepared to act.
It seems that our Senate delegation just doesn't "get it" when it comes to the importance of the climate issue. What we are doing is destroying the climate that has made every civilization over the past 10,000 years possible. We are pulling the house down upon our own heads.
We have never had any illusions about Senator Voinovich. He built his career by being solicitous to the fossil-fuel industries and utilities of Ohio. But Brown was supposed to be different. His first step into public life, after all, was organizing Earth Day in his hometown. Once upon a time he "got it." He understood the gravity of the issue. We have to wonder if he still "gets it." Maybe the man we once knew has been swallowed by the office he now occupies.
We cannot forget that our senators are from a state where King Coal still rules, where every knee is bent to its dictates. This mandates that coal-state legislators deny global warming if they can, and delay legislation to deal with it if they can't deny its reality any longer. It is a policy of rear-guard intransigence and obstructionism.
We have seen such a policy before, when the Southern states united in defiance of civil rights legislation, when George Wallace declared "segregation yesterday, segregation today, segregation forever!" Our Senate delegation declares its defiance of the future as well. They are in fact saying, "King Coal yesterday, King Coal today, King Coal forever!"
They, like their predecessors in intransigence, are also denying people's civil rights. They are not denying the civil and human rights of just one sector of the population. They are denying the civil and human rights of all of humanity to enjoy and prosper on a habitable and healthy planet fit to raise tomorrow's generations upon.
Many may object to my growing pessimism about the junior senator from Ohio. What about his 87 percent approval rating from the League of Conservation Voters? That is all true. But climate change is the trump card in the deck of environmental issues. No matter how often Brown has voted with us in the past, this vote against Lieberman-Warner vetoes all that we have done, and all that we have fought and hoped for. If we do not get it right with the climate, nothing else will matter.
That is why this vote on Lieberman-Warner is so ominous. It reminds one of the vote of another senator, a senator who came of age in the peace movement of the 1960s, but who voted for the war with Iraq. A vote that was politically smart in the short run, but a vote that has haunted her ever since. The same trap is set for Sherrod Brown. In for a penny, in for a pound. In voting against Lieberman-Warner he will become just another coal-state senator. Just another of those saying no to our collective future, in the cause of industry interest.
Nothing could cause me greater happiness than to be proven wrong in this assessment. I hope Sherrod Brown remains on my list of the "good guys" of Ohio politics. But I am worried. I am very worried - worried for myself and all I know and love, worried for the countless unborn generations who will live with the consequences of political expediency, worried as well for Sherrod Brown, his reputation, and his legacy. It is a worry we should all share.

I wish it didn't fall on deaf ears though.
Unfortunately I doubt there is much of a future with Nova M for Sam.
Randi, and Mike Malloy had affiliates ready to buy an existing program already in existence. If Sam went to Nova M, he'd have to start a whole new show and beg at least 8 or 9 stations to buy it, and that's not going to be an easy task. Malloy only has about 14 affiliates, in spite of his popular satellite and internet following. Sam doesn't need a distributor for an internet only broadcast. Hell, he does that already with Marc.

Gallup Poll: Obama Edges
Gallup Poll: Obama Edges McCain Nationally
A new USA Today/Gallup poll shows Sen. Barack Obama leading Sen. John McCain nationally among registered voters, 47% to 44%.
Key findings: "Economic angst is broad. Two-thirds of those with annual incomes of $30,000 or less say they are worse off financially than they were a year ago, but so do nearly half of those in the highest income group, those making $75,000 and more. Two-thirds of those who are 50 to 64 years old say their finances have worsened."

Two Possible Power
Two Possible Power Brokers
By Taegan Goddard | June 3, 2008 8:47 AM | Permalink | Comments (0)
Two key Democrats are very well positioned to be possible brokers between the campaigns of Sen. Hillary Clinton and Sen. Barack Obama as they work to unify their party:
Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-IL), who has close ties to Clinton and Obama -- and has stayed neutral in the race so far by hiding under his desk -- is likely to play a big role.
Book agent and lawyer Robert Barnett, who represented both Clinton and Obama on their lucrative book deals, may also play an important role.
If Clinton is angling to be Obama's running mate, both men are likely to play a direct role between the two campaigns.

does anyone know if sam had offered to keep on doing the sunday show and aar turned it down or whether sam took the position that he needed a full time slot or nothing?
ironic
Barack Obama stands on the brink of capturing the presidential nomination in large part because of Democratic Party reforms initiated by the civil rights and anti-war movements of the 1960s -- movements in which Hillary Clinton's top strategist, Harold Ickes, was a key player.
When Obama was barely three, Ickes took part in Mississippi Freedom Summer, helping the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party send a primarily black delegation to the 1964 national convention in Atlantic City.
After the Freedom Democratic delegation was denied seating by the virtually all white male Democratic Party establishment, Ickes -- then 24 -- went on to help organize the party's reformist Harold Hughes Commission, the precursor to the McGovern Commission.
The anger against entrenched power of the old-line Democratic Party intensified, and by 1968, young civil rights, women's rights, and anti-war activists were beaten in the streets of Chicago outside the convention hall, and the protests of dissidents were gaveled down by party bosses on the convention floor. The outrage gave birth to the Democratic Party's Commission on Party Structure and Delegate Selection, aka the McGovern Commission.
Writing in the January 1970 issue of Harper's about the '68 convention, McGovern described the "tumultuous floor debate, bloodshed and tear gas in the streets...it also evokes the image of rigged procedures, a political party assembled to reach predetermined decisions. The convention became the shame of the Democratic Party."

Hillary's Legacy : GOP talking points
Hours before the polls closed Tuesday in the final two Democratic presidential primaries, the Republican National Committee began circulating a video of Hillary Clinton questioning Barack Obama’s qualifications to be commander-in-chief, and acknowledging John McCain has this important presidential credential. ...
An RNC official tells CNN to expect to see more of Republicans highlighting Clinton’s critical comments of Obama as the campaign now turns to the general election phase.
"We will use it repeatedly," the official said.
I could forgive Hillary saying she didn't think Obama was a Muslim "as far as I know".
I could even forgive her mentioning an assassination in the context of why she refused to concede even after being overwhelmingly defeated.
But I will never forgive her for denigrating the man who was already the Democratic Party's presumptive nominee at the expense of a Republican warmonger.

Just as there was no pushing any other president once they're in office.
He's triangulated to look lefter just as Hillary has tringulated to look righter.
Funny the things that Obama supporters say, "I hope that he's a stealth liberal" and "I hope that he can be pushed to the left"...
You know that this tacit admission that he's right wing is also a tacit admission of how desperate you are to win anything and how quickly you'll sell your own social values down river ala the first Clinton... He was awfully charismatic too if you remember.

Dem poll predicts wave of GOP House upsets 'as big as '06'
Nick Juliano
Still smarting from their loss of power in 2006, plenty more Republican lawmakers likely will need to dust off their resumes after this November, if the projections of a new poll of voters in GOP battleground districts hold true.
After surveying voters in 45 Republican House districts, Democratic pollsters are predicting that the GOP could lose nearly as many seats this time around as they did two years ago, when Democrats picked up 31 seats to regain the Congressional majority for the first time in 12 years.
"This wave seems as strong as the wave we looked at in 2006," Democratic pollster Stan Greenberg said on a conference call Tuesday, releasing the results of his firm's latest poll.
Greenberg predicted Democratic pickups in about half of the 45 districts surveyed.
Overall, the poll found that President Bush was extremely unpopular in these Republican battleground districts, with just one in three voters approving of his job performance. Furthermore, 75 percent of voters surveyed feel the country is on the wrong track. Approval ratings for Republican incumbents in these districts also has slipped to 38 percent in the latest poll.
The poll broke down the 45 competitive districts into six different categories: suburban, urban, suburban/rural, exurban, urban/rural and rural/small town. Democratic challengers were ahead in each type of district except those containing a mix of urban and rural residents and rural/small town.
Testing the impact of the presidential race on competitive House races, the pollsters found that likely Democratic nominee Barack Obama and presumptive GOP contender John McCain had comparable favorability ratings in the districts, although negative feelings about both have risen since earlier this year. In a generic presidential ballot -- pitting an unnamed Democrat against an unnamed Republican -- the Democrat scores 51 percent of the vote. McCain and Obama were tied with 47 percent apiece in the battleground districts.

Clinton backers have a choice
John McCain portrayed her as a trailblazing model for aspring female politicians yesterday and now one of his top surrogates and vice-presidential prospects is taking the next natural step and promising that they'll compete for Hillary Clinton's supporters.
"I think many of those voters are going to consider and support Senator McCain," said Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty in an afternoon conference calldesigned to prebut Obama's speech tonight in St. Paul.
Pawlenty even compared the two senators, saying they shared important traits of experience and tenacity.
"They see and saw in Senator Clinton somebody they value experience in and, in many cases -- in terms of her personal characteristics -- her persistence and strength," the governor said of Clinton's backers. "Many of those same characteristics and more are in Senator McCain. So we think he's going to be able to compete for Senator Clinton's supporters to a significant degree when and if she terminates her campaign."
So, in other words, Hillary supporters are really Republicans.
Libby Links Cheney to Plame Leak
http://www.consortiumnews.com/2008/060308c.html
By Jason Leopold
June 4, 2008
FBI documents obtained by a congressional committee indicate that Vice President Dick Cheney may have authorized his former deputy to leak the identity of covert CIA operative Valerie Plame Wilson.
In a June 3 letter sent to Attorney General Michael Mukasey, Rep. Henry Waxman, Democratic chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, called on the Justice Department to release transcripts of interviews that Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald conducted with President George W. Bush and Cheney about the leak of Plame's identity.
Waxman said the Justice Department has turned over to his committee redacted transcripts of interviews that federal investigators conducted with former White House political adviser Karl Rove and Cheney's former chief of staff I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby.
According to those transcripts, Libby told federal investigators that Cheney may have told him to leak Plame's association with the CIA to reporters, Waxman said in the letter to Mukasey.
"In his interview with the FBI, Mr. Libby stated that it was ‘possible’ that Vice President Cheney instructed him to disseminate information about Ambassador [Joseph] Wilson's wife to the press. This is a significant revelation and, if true, a serious matter. It cannot be responsibly investigated without access to the Vice President's FBI interview," Waxman wrote.
Waxman's office would not release copies of the Libby-Rove transcripts or describe the contents in any detail. Fitzgerald's investigative interviews with Bush and Cheney -- asking how much knowledge the President and Vice President had about the Plame leak -- have not been disclosed.

Douglas Engelbart and the Mother of All Demos
posted by Great Western Dragon
A little history lesson for those out there in library land who don't know who Dr. Douglas Engelbart is. Engelbart gave the world a couple things that we, as library professionals, use every day. He invented a small device capable of positioning a cursor in an X-Y display environment. We call such a device a computer mouse. He also created an interesting technology that allowed the linkage of information to a given word displayed on a computer screen, in other words, hypertext.
Then there's his idea that we'd call Windows, the video conferencing idea, his notion about e-mail, and something called copy and paste.
He displayed and explained these ideas at a demonstration in 1968 which came to be called "The Mother of All Demos." Watch the video over at Google and see how our world changed forever.

Mom forced to live in car with dogs
The growing middle-class homelessness.
By Thelma Gutierrez and Wayne Drash
CNN
SANTA BARBARA, California (CNN) -- Barbara Harvey climbs into the back of her small Honda sport utility vehicle and snuggles with her two golden retrievers, her head nestled on a pillow propped against the driver's seat.
A former loan processor, the 67-year-old mother of three grown children said she never thought she'd spend her golden years sleeping in her car in a parking lot.
"This is my bed, my dogs," she said. "This is my life in this car right now."
Harvey was forced into homelessness this year after being laid off. She said that three-quarters of her income went to paying rent in Santa Barbara, where the median house in the scenic oceanfront city costs more than $1 million. She lost her condo two months ago and had little savings as backup.
