Bone drug Zometa helps fight breast cancer spread

Good News !

By MARILYNN MARCHIONE, AP Medical Writer

CHICAGO - A drug to prevent bone loss during breast cancer treatment also substantially cut the risk that the cancer would return, results that left doctors excited about a possible new way to fight the disease.

It is the first large study to affirm wider anti-cancer hopes for Zometa and other bone-building drugs called bisphosphonates. Zometa, made by Novartis AG, is used now for cancers that have already spread to the bone.

How Big A Let Down Have The Democrats Been?

By DownWithTyranny

Well... alas, pretty big. In the new issue of Rolling Stone Tim Dickinson takes on the Democratic Senate leadership. Below I want to talk anecdotally about some Democratic Party letdowns but first take a look at what ex-Democrat/current independent candidate for Congress, Steve Porter has to say and let's look at some of Dickinson's most salient points. He points out what a shill NY reptile Chuck Schumer has been for crooked billionaire Wall Street operators, "championing one of the biggest tax breaks for billionaires in the history of the republic [as] Democrats in the House fought to close a loophole that levies a tax rate of only 15 percent... on hedge-fund managers who make as much as $3.7 billion a year. But when the debate reached the Senate, Schumer broke with his fellow Democrats and sided with Wall Street-- inspiring the hedge-fund industry to hail him as its 'guardian.'"

Monks Succeed in Cyclone Relief as Junta Falters

If any good can ever come out of this natural disaster, it's the rural communities relating to the Buddhist Monks as naturally evolving local relief group.
In Burma, the UN says the military junta continues to deny unfettered access to areas devastated by Cyclone Nargis. Aid officials have been barred from several parts of the Irrawaddy region where the cyclone’s impact was worst. At least 130,000 people are dead or missing.

British pensioners who cannot afford to heat their homes. European hauliers and fishermen whose livelihoods are under threat. Palestinians forced to fill up their cars with olive oil. Americans asked to go down to a four-day week.

All around the world, in a multitude of ways, the soaring price of oil is hurting rich and poor alike. For the lucky ones, it is simply a matter of changing their lifestyle. But those most vulnerable to the price of oil have been driven on to the streets in angry protests, which raise a fundamental question: what can we do to survive in a world where a barrel of oil costs $127 (£64)?

Great Britain

The rise in the oil price could not come at a worse time for Gordon Brown. After a week that has seen hauliers blocking roads and air passengers facing higher surcharges, yesterday it was the impact on fuel bills that came to the fore. The Prime Minister's attempt to ease the pain felt by pensioners and low-income families from rising fuel bills was dismissed as a "sticking plaster to hold back a catastrophe". It consists mainly of advice on coping with the cost of heating rather than extra money.

The number of Britons in "fuel poverty" – 10 per cent of their income goes on energy – is thought to have reached four million. The average annual household bill for heat and light is now more than £1,000. The Government plans to reform data protection laws so that low-income families can be contacted directly by the companies and offered help. The aim is to ensure that the "social tariffs" get to the people that need them most.

Alistair Darling, the Chancellor, said the energy suppliers had agreed to increase "social assistance" from £50m a year to £150m by 2011. The money will be used to switch consumers to lower tariffs and insulate homes.

Kate Jopling, the head of public affairs at the charity Help the Aged, described the measures as a "sticking plaster to hold back a catastrophe". She said: "While it is welcome news ... this initiative does not go nearly far enough to deal with the looming fuel poverty crisis."

The Government's announcement came at the end of the week in which Mr Brown saw a rerun of the political crisis he faced in his early years as Chancellor. Lorry drivers blockaded roads into London and in Wales to demand that a planned 2p rise in fuel tax be scrapped and that "essential users" should be granted a rebate. The only time between the 1997 and 2001 elections when the Labour government looked vulnerable was when Mr Brown suspended rises in fuel taxes after a similar blockade.

Separately yesterday, Britain's Silverjet airline announced it had stopped flights after failing to get a $5m loan from Abu Dhabi-based investors, becoming the third London to New York business class-only carrier to run out of money.

Europe

Luxembourg's Finance Minister, Jean-Claude Juncker, who chairs the commission of European Union finance ministers, issued a call to all EU governments yesterday to hold their nerve and avoid the temptation to use the tax system to relieve the misery of high oil prices. He reminded them that, when they met in Manchester in 2005, they agreed that such a move would encourage demand and send the wrong message to oil producers.

That is not what France's President, Nicolas Sarkozy, wanted to hear yesterday, after a week of protests by French truckers and fishermen left several motorways blocked and ports paralysed. M. Sarkozy suggested capping fuel taxes if the oil price rose further.

In the Netherlands, the protests caused less inconvenience, but made more noise when, at 11.45am on Thursday, lorry drivers across the country simultaneously blew their horns in protest at diesel prices. In Bulgaria, lorry and bus drivers launched a joint protest.

The protest spread to the seas yesterday, as fishermen across Europe went on a one-day strike, blocking ports. The biggest demonstrations were in Spain and Portugal where 10,000 protesters converged on Madrid. Some handed out free fish to underline their point that, with the current cost of fuel, they are practically giving their catches away. Passers-by pushed and shoved to get their hands on the free hake.

Meanwhile, the Newcastle to Scandinavia ferry route is being cut by the Danish company DFDS Seaways, who said it was a loss-making service incapable of being turned around. The company blamed "dramatically increasing oil prices, over-capacity in the travel marketplace and the economic slowdown".

The United States

There are signs that the fuel crisis is persuading Americans to think about leaving the car in the garage. In March this year, the number of miles driven by American motorists was 11 billion fewer than in March 2007, according to the Transportation Department. That is the sharpest drop year on year that the department has ever recorded, and the first fall of any kind recorded in the month of March since 1979.

The US Energy Department projects that this year, domestic gas consumption will drop by 190,000 barrels a day and overall petroleum use by 330,000 barrels a day, the first annual fall since 1991. But those figures look less impressive when expressed as percentages. Eleven billion fewer miles is a drop of 4.3 per cent and 330,000 barrels is less than 1 per cent of the country's total daily consumption.

Even so, this is good news for the environment, since the US's greenhouse gas emissions fell by nine million tonnes in the first quarter of 2008. And insurance companies report a sharp drop in road accidents.

An increasing number of employers, anxious to keep their staff, are offering them the option of working longer but fewer days, to cut out journeys to work. There is a plan to offer public employees on New York's Long Island the opportunity to work four 10-hour days, instead of five eight-hour days – a move which, it is reckoned, would save more than 30 barrels of oil a day. When Kent State University, in Ohio, offered this opportunity to 94 security staff, 78 of them snapped it up.

But the changing travelling habits have created problems for America's bus and subway systems, which are having to cope with a sudden increase in passengers at the same time that they are paying more for fuel. In Eugene, Oregon, 16 per cent more people took the bus this month than in April, but the town's main bus company, Lane Transit District, is losing money and cannot afford to expand.

Airlines, which are struggling to break even, are reluctant to raise the price of tickets and are introducing fees for baggage handling instead. American Airlines has slapped a $16 fee on the first piece of baggage checked in by economy-class passengers. Other airlines have followed.

But Southwest Airlines, in California, is laughing, because it took a gamble at the start of the year and bought 70 per cent of the fuel it estimated it would need in a full year for a paltry $51 a barrel – two-fifths of the current price. It is probably the only US airline that will be able to make a profit without increasing charges.

In Northern California, one man thought he had found a way to profit from the crisis. He was spotted rummaging around in the garbage behind a Burger King, with a tube and a storage bin. When police caught up with him, they found that he had 2,500 gallons of used fryer grease stolen from various restaurants. Chip pan fat is worth more than four times what it was a few years ago, making that haul worth more than £3,000.

Outside Seattle, the owner of a pizza restaurant is thinking of installing a CCTV camera over its 50-gallon cooking-oil barrel to keep rustlers away. "Fryer grease has become gold," its owner, Nick Damianidis, told The New York Times. "And just over a year ago, I had to pay someone to take it away."

The biggest force behind the Michigan move is Democratic Senator Carl Levin, who has been irritated for years that a big state like his has been taking a back seat to smaller states. Iowa and New Hampshire get all the attention, in addition to millions of dollars from the campaigns and the media, who keep their restaurants and hotels full, their rental cars on the road and their television stations flush with cash from ads.

Pat Buchanan comment on Scot McClellend

Buchanan called McClellend "A JUDAS".

Now, you can't have a Judas unless you have a Jesus.

Who's Jesus in this allusion? It's George W. Bush!

This isn't the first time an emperor like Bush has been referred to as a 'divinity'.

During the Roman Era -- the time Jesus is said to have been living -- the Romans lost their republic to the forces of tyranny. It was Octavian (nephew of Julius Caesar) through years of systematic removal of his opposition (through exile, by assassinating, intimidating, confiscating personal property, arresting on trumped up charges, etc.) and finally the defeat of Marc Antony, turned the republic into an Empire with himself, Octavian, as the Emperor Augustus. Once he was emperor, temples were erected to worship him.

This "Cult of the Emperor" seems to be alive now. In the Bush temples, however, the statues will need to show Bush nude because we know the emperor has no clothes.

It Seems to me

that the only solution is a tiered nationwide primary...I went to my state caucus and was NOT able to vote for who I wanted...Edwards...my choice had been decided by the earlier state votes...that is fundamentally unfair in a primary... we should have a nationwide primary to narrow the field down to 5 or so, then several months later have another that narrows the field again to anyone with over 30% or so support then at the convention choose through delegates the strongest candidate...It will cost more money and we will have to vote more than once, but we will also arrive at a candidate that represents the entire democratic party....just saying...

Hillary, Ickes... Liars!

When will an Obama supporter ask this very important question about "principles?"

Not Enough Is Being Said About Speculation

http://money.cnn.com/2008/05/30/news/economy/oil_cftc/?postversion=20080...

Oil trading probe may uncover manipulation
But overall, any wrongdoing is likely to play a small part in soaring crude prices. Meanwhile, speculators aren't expected to hang.

By Steve Hargreaves, CNNMoney.com staff writer
Last Updated: May 31, 2008: 10:28 AM EDT
---------------
Speculation is not illegal. Markets need oversight and regulation capable of acting swiftly to prevent capitalism from cannibalizing itself.

The recent credit crisis is the result of new investment vehicles and techniques being introduced into the market without regulatory oversight. The market does not always know best.

The claim that oil prices have escalated because the supply is static while demand is increasing is only partially true.

The demand for purchasing futures in oil increased. Huge amounts of money began to flow into oil futures speculation after oil began to rise slightly. More demand for purchasing oil futures = higher prices for oil futures = higher prices for oil.

This may seem terribly esoteric, but there is a distinct difference between the demand for oil and the demand for oil futures though an increase in the demand for either, or both, results in higher oil prices.

Despite the new demands for oil placed on the market by China and India and nearby regions, the new demand is not five times what it was nor will it be five times what it was anytime soon. And yet the price of oil IS five times what it was.

Why? The demand for purchasing oil futures is much more than five times what it was. It is dozens upon dozens more than it was. The more futures they buy, the more the price of oil rises and the easier and less risky it is (or appears to be) to make more money by buying more oil futures.

Oil future speculation is not the only reason for the increasing price of oil, nor was it necessarily the trigger that began the recent rapid rise, but I believe that speculation in the futures market is much more responsible for what we are witnessing than is being claimed by the "experts".

It is a perfect example of a bubble-like rise in price that could have been short circuited by a regulatory agency with the power to suspend the futures market long enough to allow it to cool.

But the Conservatives and the laissez-faire marketeers and the Republicans fight tooth and nail against any type of market regulation.

The mortgage crisis and the subsequent credit crisis, followed by the oil crisis, ought to be enough to make the "let the market decide" idiots see the light.

Re: MI primary

"It's clear, this election they're having is not going to count for anything." - Hillary Clinton

My friend who is a genius sez that the DNC rules committee

made a ruling devised to punish Mi and Fl for VIOLATING the primary rules (scheduling a super early primary vote in those states). The punishment was that there would be NO Dem campaigning -- the campaigns being big revenue moneystreams for a state. THAT, my friend maintains, was the punishment. It had nothing to do with taking candidates' names off the ballot or not counting the subsequent votes. The punishment was not to deny the vote count.

I don't know if he's correct, but it sounds okay. Is this the Clinton argument?

Strong Backing for Ex-Governor's Appeal (54 Former State AG's File Brief Supporting Seigelman)

By ADAM NOSSITER
Published: May 31, 2008

Fifty-four former state attorneys general filed a brief Friday supporting the appeal of former Gov. Don Siegelman of Alabama, convicted two years ago on bribery and corruption charges in a prosecution depicted by his supporters as politically motivated. Robert Abrams, a former New York attorney general and an author of the brief, said the document was unprecedented in bringing together a large number of former top state judicial officers, mostly Democrats but also some Republicans. Mr. Abrams said it reflected “strong feelings” that an injustice had been done to Mr. Siegelman, a Democrat who was freed on bond from a federal prison in March after serving nine months.

Last year, 44 of the former attorneys general petitioned Congress to look into the Siegelman case, which a House committee is now doing.

the states' Primary elections should all be on one day

Enough of this campaign spending dominating the primaries (as well as the general elections).

Really, it's not the issues that states seem to be concerned about, but how much campaign money a candidate spends in their state prior to the election.

If the primary election occurred on one day for all states, following a number of sanely-arranged, issue-centered, accessible network media broadcast debates, it would make more sense.

John Conyers could

Last Show On Air America

But who cares about Air America anymore?

Laura and Sam are the last remnants of a once vital network. Mark Green knows nothing about what makes good leftwing radio. He wouldn't know leftwing if it smacked him in the behind. 'Oh Barack Obama, he is just a community organizer'. Really, Mark?

First they replaced Randy Rhodes with Joyce Behar, and then Roseanne Barr (see where they're going with this?), because Randi doesn't have a fanbase, no, she has 'a demographic'.

Then, he gets rid of 'the future of Air America' (in the words of Al Franken), Sam Seder.

Well I say - good riddance to Air America, and it's incompetent management, which as always is 'more avarice than inspiration' (to borrow a phrase from Thomas Harris).

So what shows are left on Air America? There is Laura Flanders on the weekends.

I don't listen to Lionel. (What a perfect reflection of Mark Green he is.)

Thom Hartmann - I always listen to, but I listen to him on NovaM Radio, so I don't have to switch over when Randi Rhodes comes on.

Rachel Maddow. Hmmm... Nowadays I listen to Jeff Farias on NovaM too. I switch between the two a lot.

Then Mike Malloy - also on NovaM, of course.

And by the way, I think Sam needs a good co-host. The technical staff doesn't really do. They certainly don't replace Janeane Garofalo - not by a long shot.

FINALLY!

Some reason from the committee! Who is this guy?

Here's what Clinton wants:

[Primary was] not flawed as long as we penalize Obama for following the rules.

I wonder

if Sam will continue to be the editor of AAR's website if they don't give him the job. It's disgusting the way their auditioning maron against him,as well as others.

I like maron a lot but sam is,without a doubt, the next in line for the empty time slot.Boy i wish novam would hire him so he could make a 'clean' break from AAR.

Blanchard... we want party unity...

what a joke.

We want to break rules and be rewarded for it.

And listen to those Clinton hacks.... it's okay to break the rules! It's okay! As long as MY candidate wins.

donna brazile blockbustering response

got a big and well deserved applause for her rebutal to the dishnest arguments of the michigan governor (he's now claiming hilllary played by the rules, now as i type!)

she's great, now i wish she was running for president (or at least vp)

Cappucino

well said.Sam is gone and the only show i can stomach is 'ring of fire'.I don't think they even get paid to do it so maybe thats why their still on.

It really is a great show despite the fact i think rfk jr. is a hilly fan.The PAP attack is always good but your right,it seems that all the owners of AAR want it to fail.

They may be new world order for all we know.

clinton hacks

always guilty of some lookism can't avoid noticing how they look like republicans, the whole dirty bunch of 'em

Sargeant at arms

Ok, this is probably really dumb but...is it really only one "guy" on duty at a time? (I mean there has to be more than one person overall,a detail or whatever, but...) Couldn't Karl Rove just keep running away from one guy with a gun? I mean, he'd probably have advance notice, right? If Congress can't put out an APB/BOLO, does this really work? It seems like he wouldn't even have to leave the country to get away, just keep "not being in."

Can they deputize people?

And, I heard on Randi that technically they even gave that power away. J. Edgar convinced them (surprise!).

Yes Donna Brazile!

"MY MOMMA TAUGHT ME TO PLAY BY THE RULES."

All Right!

glory

LOL, i'm not sure.I heard it on randi also.I think it's probably more than one old dude with a walker.I hope.

But i do belive congress still has that power if i understood randi correctly.

"MY MOMMA TAUGHT ME TO PLAY BY THE RULES."

Amen Sistah!

That's nice to see the public servants working on a Saturday...

Agree -- Sam's truly outstanding

well said.Sam is gone and the only show i can stomach is 'ring of fire'.
--------------------------

Sam always lasers right to the heart of each topic. Sam wastes no time. Sam consistently covers the most important issues and does so thoroughly. And Sam's interviews are THE best, superb.

I agree, closest thing to Sam is Ring of Fire. However, the RofF guys lack interview skills. Like Hartmann, they don't let the guest (the expert/expert witness/authority) extrapolate with the majority of the time allotted for the interview. With RFK2 and Pap (and Hartmann is guilty of this also), the guest gets cut off and one never gets the full extent of the expert's information/contribution. Interviews where the interviewer wants equal time are usually a BIG frustration and disappointment. (Ego-bags don't make good interviewers; they need to learn some humility in the presence of another expert....).

Oh, I miss Sam.

What slot would NovaM promote for a live Sam show? I keep asking myslef that question. What slot would their sort of home station KPHK Phoenix give Sam. It appears problematic; they have a popular line-up now. Yet I agree, I would prefer Sam got out from under Green et al and their not subtle DLC/Hillary point of view.

Florida's Democratic Leaders expect a satisfactory resolution

After the Florida portion of the meeting was finished, I watched an impromptu press conference in the lobby of the Marriott that included Jon Ausman, Senator Nelson, former Senator Graham, Rep. Wexler and a couple other Florida Democrats. The theme was one of unity. Ausman said he could accept Rep. Wexler's proposal for seating the Florida superdelegates with 1/2 vote each. Generally, the theme was one of unity. The speakers gave the sense that they feel there will be a resolution from the Rules Committee today that will make satisfy most of them. Avi Zenilman has a similar report.

Ooooo! That was good. Thank you Todd Spangler on CSPAN... all the boos and hisses came from CLINTON SUPPORTERS while Obama surrogates were making their case.

THAT'S HILLARY supporters for you.

Re: Hillary said she would take her name off...

"...The punishment was not to deny the vote count."

It's a good theory, but as this is a public issue that can only carry so far. They still have to give the appearance of issuing some form of "punishment" to those who decided to move their primaries anyway, and appease as many voters in those states as they can.

My gut says they'll split the delegates to match the current national split, then allow the supers to do as they wish. I would far rather they just followed the rules, and make sure it's CLEAR that it's because of those who decided to move it in the first place; revoke their super-status, and banish them to a remote island with nothing more than sporks to survive.

Voices of a People's History is a big hit in Portland, Oregon

Portland was the latest city to host a performance of Voices of a People's History of the United States, the primary-source companion to Howard Zinn's best-selling A People's History of the United States.

The book features the words of rebels, dissenters and visionaries from our past -- and present.

The Portland performance included readings by actor Viggo Mortensen, performance poet Staceyann Chin, singer Shontina Vernon, musician Eddie Vedder, poet and musician Trevino L. Brings Plenty, actor Michael Ealy, Portland student activist Sarah Levy, editor and author Anthony Arnove, and other actors and activists.

YES YES YES.I'm not sure who is on before randi but that would be a good slot for sam.Randi and Malloy are not going to be moved.

Let us hope that Sam's live 6:30 appearance tomorrow will give us the good news we have all been waiting MONTHS to hear.

Was not aware that Howard Zinn's wife Roslyn had died last week.

Lovely photo of them...

...
"After years as a teacher and social worker, I turned seriously to painting, which throughout my life had sparked and enlivened my spirit," Ms. Zinn wrote in a brief introduction to "Painting Life," a collection of her work that was published last year, a few months after she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. "What I see in the world, so burdened and troubled, and yet beautiful in nature and in the human form, impels me to seek to create images that give the possibility of hope."

A glorious spray of tulips, the gentle curve of an unclothed hip, the deep smile lines etched around her husband's mouth - Ms. Zinn's brush found in each of her subjects a sense of serenity and promise. And those same qualities, present in her along with a radiant delight in life, impressed those she met her during her long marriage to historian Howard Zinn as they walked arm in arm in marches protesting wars from Vietnam to Iraq.

Re: Space Shuttle

Thanks Guy! I nearly forgot!

I think they should bring a couple port-o-pottys up there and teather them to the space station. Then they could suit up and head on out if this happens again.

...

Two weeks before Ms. Zinn died, she told Carlsson-Paige during a visit that she had just finished two paintings. In one, Ms. Zinn sensed a need for something more.

"She said, 'I had to put an apple in it,' which I saw - it's this beautiful yellow apple," said Carlsson-Paige, who asked her friend whether she was pleased with the paintings. "And she said, 'Oh, I'm very happy with them.' She was just completely joyful."

I always wondered if Myla Seder was named after Myla Kabat-Zinn...

Only an Idiot...

gives a fuck about Howard Zinn...

There are real issues to deal with.

Why waste the time blogging about Zinn?

Now, from the more "anti-social" side of the progressive

spectrum.

Fuck the DNC. Fuck the candidates too. Let the people vote. Obama will win anyway, and won't it be that much sweeter when he does.

One "man", one vote. The people are more important than the process.

Disenfranchising the people because the assholes in charge behaved greedily, is saying the people get what they deserve because their leaders are dicks.

Rise above it, people.

'Sides...rules were made to be tested and broken.

Nora, for what it's worth, I agree with your brainiac friend. It's was always about the gittas.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that you don't get a lot of phone calls from rocket scientists, do you?

Guy

You're right! Heck, every other construction site has a dozen or more... Somewhere I have a model rocket kit from the 90's that's like a miniature port-o-potty. Might be time to donate that to my rocketry club.

I am amazed at

how the Hillary people can go on and on about how we have to count the Florida vote...

How can that vote be a hallmark of democracy when only one candidate was on the ballot?

Crank

I was A joking.i'm well aware that port-o-pottys would be too cost prhibitive.

I do work for the Bush science team however. If george says we can do it then who am i to argue.

I thought the bush science team

was a euphemism for the voices in his head?

How can a "progressive", in good conscience, accept things

the way they are CB? Not even Obama wants this to happen this way.

SOMETHING needs to be done to correct this.

I would rather start the whole fuckin thing over again than live with disenfranchising anyone.

BTW CB, WRONG!!! I am not for Hillary.

Only an Idiot...gives a fuck about Howard Zinn

Hmmm, I'm mulling that one. I don't think I agree with that sentiment. I've read some of his books and I don't think that Mr. Zinn would appeal to idiots. You should rethink that statement, in my opinion, of course. It did convey an ample expression of anger, though.

Mr. Bubba sounds as though

the element of rage is creeping back into his karma. He should be on the alert.

Death Penalty for Bush?

http://counterpunch.org/ccr05312008.html

Bugliosi Makes the Case
By CORPORATE CRIME REPORTER

If Vincent Bugliosi were prosecuting George W. Bush for the murder of the more than 4,000 American soldiers who have died in Iraq, he would seek the death penalty.

“If I were the prosecutor, there is no question I would seek the death penalty,” Bugliosi told Corporate Crime Reporter in a wide-ranging interview.

Bugliosi is the author of the just published book The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder (Vanguard Press, 2008).

“I’m urging here that an American jury try George Bush for first degree murder. I want to see him on trial for murder before an American jury. And if they convict him, it will be up to the jury to decide what his punishment is. One of the options would be the imposition of the death penalty. If I were prosecuting him, absolutely I would seek the death penalty. As Governor of Texas, George Bush signed death warrants – 152 out of 152 – most of them for people who only committed one murder.”

Bugliosi said he is sending a copy of his book to all fifty state Attorneys General, offering his assistance in prosecuting Bush for homicide.

“I’m herein enclosing a copy of my book The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder,” Bugliosi writes in the letter to the Attorneys General. “I hope you will find the time to read it and that you will agree with its essential conclusion – that George W. Bush is guilty of murder for the deaths of over 4,000 American soldiers who have died fighting his war in Iraq.”
...

I hope Obama

Makes Vincent Bugliosi his attorney general. The only problem would be there aren't enough nooses around for all the convictions that would follow.

Hey Guido. Been a while.

Bug-liosi (ala Manson) huh....

I thought you were an Edwards man....

Hey Hows it going Girlie?

Im gonna watch that DVD tonight :)

Looks good

Really

BTW Alice are you a member of ZNet

That is the Anarchism and Socialism haven. The new site is phenomenal. Blogs, Vids, Articles, Chomsky even has his own blog there.

So how have you been ? :)

Like it or ont...

this is a political blog in a Democratic republic...

From what I gather Zinn is a proponent of anarchy (a very ill-defined word...means, basically whatever one wants it to mean) and (again from what's been posted here) he has no idea how anarchy would be achieved, how long it would take or the societal costs involved.

To me, discussing his ideas as much relevance than discussing how many angles are dancing on the head of a pin.

right NOW the DNC rules and by-laws committee is meeting...

Check this out Alice :)

Tian was blessed (though few farmers would have used such a word) with three patches: River Field, where his family had grown rice since time out of mind; Roadside Field, where ka-Jaffords had grown sharproot, pumpkin, and corn for those same long years and generations; and Son of a (expletive), a thankless tract which mostly grew rocks, blisters, and busted hopes. Tian wasn't the first Jaffords determined to make something of the twenty acres behind the home place; his Gran-pere, perfectly sane in most other respects, had been convinced there was gold there. Tian's Ma had been equally positive it would grow porin, a spice of great worth. Tian's particular insanity was madrigal. Of course madrigal would grow in Son of a (expletive). Must grow there. He'd gotten hold of a thousand seeds (and a dear penny they had cost him) that were now hidden beneath
