Healing the wounds of Democrats' sexism
By Geraldine A. Ferraro
We feel that if society can allow sexism to impact a woman's candidacy to deny her the presidency, it sends a direct signal that sexism is OK in all of society.

In response, a group of women - from corporate executives to academics to members of the media - have requested that the Shorenstein Center at Harvard University and others conduct a study, which we will pay for if necessary, to determine three things.

what the fuck is this mo lib? "political guru"? what a joke

NEW YORK -- May 29, 2008: Air America Radio's David Bender, whose Politically Direct aired on the liberal talk network from 2005-2007, will be rejoining the AAR lineup as of June 8. The show, which was one hour in its earlier incarnation, will air Sundays from 4-7 p.m. ET, replacing the Sam Seder-hosted Seder on Sundays.

Politically Direct will feature interviews with newsmakers, campaign coverage and other political news, updates from the blogosphere, and listener calls. Bender has been serving as Air America's senior political correspondent and has been appearing daily as the "Political Guru" on AAR's Rachel Maddow Show and on Saturday show Ring of Fire.

"In this important political year, we're thrilled to be bringing back David Bender's Politically Direct," said AAR President Mark Green. "The program will once again provide Sunday listeners with commentary on the networks and the netroots and with David's unique combination of savvy and humor."

2000 Playboy Article Plaguing Franken

A Playboy article written in 2000 by current Minnesota Democratic Senate candidate Al Franken has caused a maelstrom of outrage -- and not just from the opposing party.

With just a week before the state convention, where Franken was all but assured of winning the DFL endorsement (which is often tantamount to the nomination), the endorsement could now be in question because of a sexually explicit article he wrote eight years ago on the future of pornography.

Democratic Rep. Betty McCollum, who represents St. Paul and Ramsey County, has been particularly perturbed by the piece. "As a woman, a mother, a former teacher, and an elected official, I find this material completely unacceptable," McCollum said, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune. McCollum had supported wealthy attorney Mike Cerisi in the primary before he dropped out earlier this year.

Abu-Jamal's lawyers given two more weeks to file for rehearing

Abu-Jamal’s lawyers given two more weeks to file for rehearing on new trial plea

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit yesterday granted a two-week extension for lawyers for death row inmate Mumia Abu-Jamal to file a petition for a rehearing on his effort to get a new trial.

Abu-Jamal was convicted in 1982 of the murder of Philadelphia Police Officer Daniel Faulkner and sentenced to death. In late March, a three-judge panel of the Third Circuit affirmed Abu-Jamal's conviction but vacated the death sentence. The court said Abu-Jamal should be sentenced to life in prison or get a chance to persuade a new Philadelphia jury that he deserves a life sentence rather than death.

Defense lawyer Robert R. Bryan of San Francisco intends to seek a rehearing before the court on his contention that Abu-Jamal deserves a new trial, or at least a hearing on his argument that some blacks were intentionally excluded from his jury.

The court said the new filing deadline is June 10. Inquirer Staff

Iraq set for anti-US protests

Muqtada al-Sadr, the Shia leader of the Mahdi Army, has called for the demonstrations after Friday prayers to pressure the Iraqi government into abandoning the proposed agreement.

Washington wants the Iraqi government to provide a legal framework for US troops to remain in Iraq beyond the expiration of a UN mandate in December.

Last week Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, Iraq's most revered Shia cleric, also reportedly expressed his anger, saying he would not permit the Iraqi government to sign a deal with "US occupiers" as long as he lived.

Lawmaker calls for no-cost, porn-free, wireless 'Net access
By Ryan Paul | Published: April 21, 2008 - 10:25AM CT

The Wireless Internet Nationwide for Families Act, proposed by Rep. Anna G. Eshoo (D-CA), would instruct the FCC to auction off the 2155-2175MHz band of spectrum. The winner would have to use the spectrum to create a nationwide wireless Internet service that is available to the public at no cost, automatically blocks access to pornographic content, and is fully open to third-party device manufacturers.
[...]
"The results of the 700MHz auction disappointed many of us who hoped that a new entrant would emerge. 70 percent of the spectrum auctioned went to only two carriers. While the auction required under this legislation is open to anyone, it is my hope that the bold conditions of requiring free, family friendly service will encourage the entry of a new kind of national broadband service provider."

Wireless Internet Nationwide for Families Act of 2008 (Introduced in House)
HR 5846 IH
110th CONGRESS
2d Session
H. R. 5846

----
“We’ve had a variety of proposals that had come into the commission originally where some people wanted us to give them the spectrum,” said Martin in a briefing with reporters. The FCC chief said a vote may be held at the agency’s upcoming June 12 meeting, but added it is possible the measure could be approved before that date.

Martin said that a licensee of the 2155-2180 MHz spectrum (referred to as the AWS III band) would have to provide a free service tier, and would have to reach 50% of the population in four years and 95% of the population by the end of the license term.
[...]
Interestingly, Martin’s plans for the AWS III spectrum draw on the free wireless broadband access proposal first advocated by M2Z Networks Inc. The FCC dismissed M2Z’s application for spectrum, and the company subsequently challenged the FCC ruling in federal appeals court.

Meantime, Reps. Anna Eshoo (D-Calif.) and Christopher Cannon (R-Utah) are pushing a bill to foster deployment of a national, family-friendly wireless broadband network with open access. Their bill envisions one auction of airwaves in the 2155-2180 MHz band and another auction involving yet-to-be-determined spectrum below 3 GHz.

FCC Weighs Free-Internet Plan
By Amy Schatz
Word Count: 584

WASHINGTON -- In the quest to increase Americans' access to broadband Internet, federal regulators are considering a new plan: get someone to give it away free.

The Federal Communications Commission is considering a plan that would require the winner of a planned airwaves auction to offer free wireless-Internet service to most Americans within the next few years.

Details of the plan still have to be worked out, and it isn't entirely clear who might bid for the airwaves. Most of the major carriers have already bulked up their spectrum holdings through recent FCC auctions or acquisitions...

U.S. Withdraws Fulbright Grants to Gaza
By ETHAN BRONNER
GAZA — The American State Department has withdrawn all Fulbright grants to Palestinian students in Gaza hoping to pursue advanced degrees at American institutions this fall because Israel has not granted them permission to leave.

Israel has isolated this coastal strip, which is run by the militant group Hamas. Given that policy, the United States Consulate in Jerusalem said the grant money had been “redirected” to students elsewhere out of concern that it would go to waste if the Palestinian students were forced to remain in Gaza.

A letter was sent by e-mail to the students on Thursday telling them of the cancellation. Abdulrahman Abdullah, 30, who had been hoping to study for an M.B.A. at one of several American universities on his Fulbright, was in shock when he read it.

“If we are talking about peace and mutual understanding, it means investing in people who will later contribute to Palestinian society,” he said. “I am against Hamas. Their acts and policies are wrong. Israel talks about a Palestinian state. But who will build that state if we can get no training?”

Some Israeli lawmakers, who held a hearing on the issue of student movement out of Gaza on Wednesday, expressed anger that their government was failing to promote educational and civil development in a future Palestine given the hundreds of students who had been offered grants by the United States and other Western governments.

Rupert Murdoch loves Obama—Fox News to give him the Fox News treatment

Rupert Murdoch can really relate to these young Obama supporters. Eschewing his own network's fervent anti-Obama stances, Fox News patriarch Rupert Murdoch has said at The Wall Street Journal's All Things Digital conference that Barack Obama will win the presidency in a "landslide." The rumpled Aussie conservative also said the following:

[Obama] is a rock star. It's fantastic. I love what he is saying about education. I want to meet [him]. I want to know if he's going to walk the walk.

Hold it. Did Murdoch run his comments past the overstuffed egos at Fox News—Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, Neil Cavuto? Doesn't seem like he did. Just how will the Fox News family handle Murdoch's progressive and pragmatic change of heart? We have a few ideas.

Cheney Tells New York’s G.O.P. He Sees Success in Iraq War

At a Midtown hotel ballroom on Thursday, Vice President Dick Cheney declared that the United States was “succeeding brilliantly” in Iraq and assailed Democrats on taxes, gas prices, and national security.

As the keynote speaker at the annual dinner of the New York State Republican Party at the Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers, Mr. Cheney predicted victory in November for the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, Senator John McCain of Arizona. He also criticized Democrats in Congress for refusing to extend President Bush’s tax cuts.

Reprising language from a speech he gave at the Coast Guard Academy this month, Mr. Cheney said of the war in Iraq that the “only way to lose this fight is to quit — but that would be an act of betrayal and dishonor, and that is not going to happen on our watch.”

Mr. Cheney made no mention of two controversial issues: Scott McClellan, the former White House press secretary who recently published a book sharply critical of his former colleagues in the Bush administration, and the topic of the day in New York, Gov. David A. Paterson’s decision to order state agencies to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other jurisdictions.

9/11 trial sought during presidential campaign

Defense lawyers for the alleged 9/11 conspirators on Thursday accused the Pentagon prosecutor of rushing to begin the complex Sept. 11, 2001, mass-murder trial in the height of the presidential campaign season.

The U.S. military attorneys included the claim in a 20-page brief asking the military judge to dismiss the capital charges against alleged al Qaeda kingpin Khalid Sheik Mohammed and four other Guantánamo detainees.

The document includes an e-mail from a civilian member of the prosecution team proposing to set the trial date for Sept. 15, the Monday after the seventh anniversary of the suicide attacks.

''Not coincidentally,'' the defense attorneys say, ``that would force the trial of this case in mid-September, some seven weeks before the general elections.''

The date, in fact, is 10 days after Sen. John McCain, an architect of Military Commissions law, is expected to be officially nominated as the Republican presidential candidate at the GOP national convention in St. Paul, Minn.

''Three months and 18 days is not enough time to prepare a defense in this death penalty case even if the government had provided the defense with the attorneys, resources, and facilities necessary to do so,'' said Navy Lt. Cmdr. Brian Mizer, attorney for Ammar al Baluchi, who is also known as Ali Abdul Aziz Ali.

Is McCain coordinating the attacks against Obama with the swiftboating group?

John McCain, who the traditional media still thinks is a campaign finance maverick, is actually a campaign finance criminal. So, it's no surprise that his campaign appears to be colluding with an "independent" group, which until recently was advised by McCain's buddies, Joe Lieberman and Lindsey Graham. That group, Vets for Freedom, is trying to swiftboat Obama. McCain is parroting the group's talking points -- pretty much word for word. It's illegal for federal campaigns to coordinate with outside groups:

U.S., Libya discuss deal for victims of 1980s attacks

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Senior U.S. and Libyan officials are meeting in London this week to try to reach a deal on compensation cases from the Lockerbie air disaster and other 1980s incidents, a Bush administration official said on Thursday.

U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs David Welch is leading the U.S. delegation in the talks, said the official, who declined to be named because the discussions were still going on. The State Department had no comment.

At a meeting in London two months ago Libya presented what a U.S. official called a "comprehensive" deal to resolve a string of compensation cases which have soured relations between the former foes.

They include cases arising from the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, in 1988, which killed 270 people, including 189 Americans and the 1986 bombing of a West Berlin disco in which two U.S. servicemen were killed.

Of course they hate Blacks. Never mind Puerto-Ricans are the result of the slave trade. They are African and Spanish mixed. Wherever the slave trade reared its ugly head, a skin color hierarchy is the legacy. The lighter your skin, the better you're treated. You will find this pattern of racism throughout south and central America. Brazil is the worse offender. It is also a reality in the Caribbean.

Clinton Taking Joe Lieberman Route to the White House

The actions of Hillary Clinton appear inexplicable and insane. She knows that she cannot win the nomination at this point, but she is violently attacking the Democratic Party's nominating process, making it seem as if the Elite of the Party are denying her a victory that the voters have given her. So what is she doing?

The strategy is not hard to figure out. After losing the democratic primary two years ago, Joe Lieberman of Connecticut ran as an independent and beat both the Democratic nominee and a weak Republican opponent.

This is exactly what Ms. Clinton is planning. She will protest that the Democratic Party has stolen the nomination from her and announce that she is running as an independent. All she needs to do is win more electorial votes than McCain or Obama, roughly 190 out of 540 if Obama and McCain split evenly. When the election goes to the House of Representatives, she can demand that she should be elected president having gotten the most popular votes and the most electorial votes.

Considering that the most powerful man in America, the Australian media tycoon,Rupert Murdock, who owns Fox television, 175 newspapers, hundreds of radio stations, and numerous major internet sites, is backing her, she has an excellent chance of winning.

Janeane Garofalo on Talking Animals

Jun 04 2008 11:30

"Talking Animals" will celebrate its 5-year anniversary in June--not at WMNF, where it first aired in Nov. 2005--but overall: Host Duncan Strauss launched the program in Southern California on June 16, 2003 and for those initial years, it was a weekly, hourlong show.

As part of our special programming in June to mark the show's 5th anniversary, our guest June 4, at 11:30am, will be JANEANE GAROFALO.

The comedian-actress-activist and former co-host of Air America Radio's "The Majority Report" is a longtime animal lover and advocate, and has proven eloquent in articulating what she views as the almost seamless connection between the animal rights movement and the movements for women's rights, gay rights, racial equality and other causes that foster kind, equal and compassionate treatment of others.

When it comes to her pro-critter stance, Garofalo puts her money and actions where her mouth is, adopting rescue dogs, performing benefits for animal organizations (most recently in March for Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary), and financially supporting a host of animal causes and organizations. The June 4 conversation will surely roam into a variety of areas, likely including the landscape of the Presidential campaign. http://www.talkinganimals.net/

Memo To Corporate Media: Anyone Can Dress Up As An Arab Terrorist & Fake An Al-Qaeda Tape

Nearly four years after Benjamin Vanderford hoodwinked the global media by manufacturing a fake Al-Qaeda beheading tape, America's corporate press whores are once again gearing up to fearmonger about the prospect of mushroom clouds over American cities by instantly ascribing gospel status to a dubious "Al-Qaeda fan" Internet videotape that encourages the use of WMD in a terrorist attack.

"Intelligence and law enforcement sources tell ABC News they are expecting al Qaeda supporters will post a new video on the Internet in the next 24 hours, calling for what one source said is "jihadists to use biological, chemical and nuclear weapons to attack the West," according to the report.

"There have been several reports that al Qaeda will release a new message calling for the use of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) against civilians," FBI spokesman Richard Kolko told ABC News in an e-mail.

Since the dubious series of beheading videos, which coincidentally came to a stop when one of our readers managed to expose the ludicrousness of accepting such propaganda at face value by hoodwinking the world media with a fake beheading tape, "Al-Qaeda" has been resigned to spreading its message through Mossad agents like Adam Pearlman and alleged sketchy Bin Laden audio recordings.

Is George W. Bush a Crowned Anarchist?

Destructivism, The Path to Self-Destruction Anarchy It is strange that I wrote a whole book called Destructivism, The Path to Self-Destruction, without first addressing the one subject people are most likely to accuse me of in time, the one of being an anarchist talking about anarchy. It did not cross my mind to write about anarchy, because I never thought I was an anarchist. I realise now that perhaps I was an anarchist in the closet, and maybe it is time I do my coming out and just admit it, as I witness the world we live in going in frightening directions. People have accused me of being an anarchist because of the title of my website, The Crowned Anarchist, which ultimately was just the title of a book by Antonin Artaud, the celebrated French author who died in 1948. His book was about a Roman Emperor originally from Syria named Heliogabalus, also called the Crowned Anarchist, because of his subsequent reign in Rome. It is ironic that today I found many mentions on the Internet that George W. Bush is also sometimes called a Crowned Anarchist, from the old definition of anarchy, and it looks like he is about to bring chaos all over the world, on a scale never seen before. And that, whether or not the next elections in the United States are cancelled and martial law declared, as everything appears in place for just such a possibility. What he has already done is sufficient to leave an indelible mark on this planet and it will take a long time to get out of this mess.

I've seen this one. It's really really good. Watch it if you haven't already.

Last call for protest:

Raytheon's Pain Ray: Coming to a Protest Near You?

Coming soon, from the folks who brought you the microwave -- Raytheon! After more than ten years in the making and at a cost of over 40 million dollars, 'Silent Guardian', or Active Denial System, (ADS, in it's formal mood), is almost ready for public release!

Why do you say that Brazil is the worst? I don't know a lot of Brazilians, so I'm just asking.

I was thinking maybe Argentina based on my experiences with people from there and also all the European migration in their history. It seems worse to me in countries where there are fewer black people that folks actually have experience with in life, and (sometimes, although that wouldn't apply to Mexico,) a larger number people who consider themselves white. But that wouldn't be the case with Brazil, right?

But anyways, I guess that's beside or counter to the basic point of your post. Still curious though.

Input PB? It is bullshit....

The only provider even close to being capable of pulling this off in the time line proposed is Time Warner/AOL. They are the only ones with the existing systems in place to handle something on this scale. If they are not interested, my guess is it will never happen.

Remember the "D Block" that was up for bid during the last spectrum auction? It had a requirement that a "national public safety" network be built as part of the purchase. It did not sell. Noone is going to be willing to PAY for the spectrum and then have to build a new network they can not capitalize on.

The bandwidth overhead cost for the amount of advertising content necessary to provide enough revenue to support such a system would pretty much make the system unusable. Especially at the speed they are proposing, 200kbps.

What about the end user equipment? The IEEE takes YEARS to develop and test new standards. 802.11n (108mbps) wireless is STILL in "draft" stage despite the technology being around for almost 10 years. So any equipment developed to use this bandwidth would be strictly proprietary for at least that long. Are companies going to develop the technology and then provide the wireless network interfaces for free as well? I doubt it.

And lastly, the existing ISPs would throw a fit, and put up HUGE amounts of money to keep this from happening, unless they were given a piece of the pie.

No PB. It is a nice idea, but not profitable unless it is very highly subsidized by the government.

Cent,

I knew you would have the shista scoop on this one.
Legislation is pending and an FCC hearing is scheduled for June 12th.

With Friends Like These...

So Fernando and Crank Bait decided to go fishing one day and they took along a couple of guys who happened to be Republicans.

They were not out on the water for very long before the political conversation became a little heated. One of the Republicans lost his cool and stood up in the boat waving his knife in a threatening manner.

That's when Fernando casually said, "You gonna fish or cut Bait?"

I hate to say it

But I think McCain has sold out .

I would never disresprect his service even though the Vietnam War was based on lies and deception and a chess game mentality played with the LIVES of REAL Human Beings.

BTW, Could Yall please post just the link to Your stories.

Demand that Republicans denounce Reverend Moon!

Submitted by Lucille on Fri, 05/30/2008 - 11:23am.
fr. pfleger is being run 24/7 on msnbc again
-------

The scariest preacher is Reverend Moon. I've posted some of this before. What makes him dangerous is his is power over the highsest levels of our government. And he has had that power for some time. So much for Reverend Wright and Father Pfleger. It was John McCain's right hand man Charlie Black that arranged that strange coronation in which Reverend Moon was crowned King of America. Reverend Moon, through his paper the Washington Times, loses 100 million each year promoting Republican causes. When Falwell was nearly bankrupt, Moon bailed him out. He also financially rescued the broke father of the conservative movement, Richard Vigerie.

Moon believes Christ failed on earth because he was unable to procreate. Therefore, Moon believes he is the real messiah. He is also fiercely Anti-American and is an enemy of the constitution. He wants to amend the document to enforce sexual purity.

Moon is famous for gems like these;

"Jewish people, you have to repent. Jesus was the King of Israel. Through the principle of indemnity Hitler killed six million Jews. That is why. God could not prevent Satan from doing that because Israel killed the True Parents."

"Individualism is what God Hates Most. The separation between religion and politics is what Satan likes best."

Reverend moon said Gays are, "dung eating dogs" to be "eliminated" or "burned."

Should Pot be Legal and Why

Why Marijuana Should Be Legal
Are you writing an essay or working on a speech or presentation about why marijuana should be legal? If so, this page is for you. We get a lot of requests from students who say: "I'm working on a paper for school -- could you tell me why marijuana should be legal?" Well, here it is. If you are writing an essay or giving a speech, you should carefully consider these arguments and make them your main focus. Also make sure to check our Sources and Books pages for reference materials.

WTF are they scheming?

National censorship?

---

Probably.

HMMM, let me tweak the tin-foil a little here and see if I can pick up on their signals.....

My guess is they are probably using this and other schemes to coerce the ISPs into filtering content, and other forms of fascism. They are trying to establish Ministry of Information type controls over the Internets using existing ISPs. If they want to keep their companies, they have to play along....It's the other side of the fascist coin.

In the end, we will all be surfing in one big AOL shell. Every keystroke logged, every website recorded.

Fellow beer cans

When they are crunched in the middle for recycling, they should really be termed "sister beer cans!"

The sexism, SHE'S rampant, I tell ya'! I'm "filing the report" right now.

I do applaud your capitalization of _beer_, however.

I'm not going to be back home 'til it's half over.

Malloy is my favorite for rage and cursing :)

Maron for angst and humor, Sam for political questioning and just plain ol' watching him grow.

When Malloy is really pissed about

the same thing I'm really pissed about (which is a fair percentage of the time), there's nobody better. (Although Randi is sometimes equal.)

Inspiration for Legalization

Identical cousins!

Except when Sam gets really pissed

after the Socratic method has failed miserably with a right-wing caller. Because it doesn't happen every five minutes, so it's even more spectacular. That's good too.

Oh Randi is Fab

:)

Speaking of which

Where is SJ?

Sam definitely can hold his own with those wingbats

and I love the closet door lol! He's the person on whose farm I'd most like to live :) Randi's better now that she's at NovaM, but I rarely get to listen to her except as repeats. She certainly isn't accessible (sp) like Marc and Sam are. Sam's especially good on camera--his little skits and the 23/6 thingys.

BTW, is SJ under the weather? I hope not! I'm pretty sure it was he who recorded Maron yesterday. Haven't listened to it yet.

Alien video

11:59 a.m. The film shows a window, reportedly 8 feet off the ground in a rural Nebraska town in 2003.

It was shot by the homeowner, who had earlier reported seeing UFOs hovering above his house.

This time, he said he set up a camera because he feared a peeping tom was spying on his two teenage daughters.

In the enhanced version of the video, a creature pops up in the window, looks around, and pops back down, again and again.

To skeptic Randy Bancroft, the creature looks a lot like the seminal "Gray," the creature in the 1957 movie "Earth vs. The Flying Saucers," which has a narrow chin, a broad forehead and almond eyes, not too different from the friendly alien in "E.T."

Alien video

sounds pretty tame. i keep waiting for bush et. al. to rip off their mask and reveal that they are really reptiles from the planet gorp like in the tv series V.

Severe Visibility Trailer

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxO-CfNMYYQ

Severe Visibility is the story of Major Stanley Kruter, an accountant working at the Pentagon on September 11th, 2001.

On Sept. 11 2001, Los Angeles filmmaker Paul Cross was doing post- production work in Washington DC when he heard about the "terrorist" attack. He visited the crash-site five hours after impact and could plainly see the official story was a lie.

"There was no passenger jet wreckage; the lawn wasn't scorched; lamp posts, fences and construction materials in the path of the jet were untouched." Cross told me. "If this was a hoax, then the attack on the World Trade Center was also a hoax."

Cross, 45, characterizes his pre-9-11 self as a "flag- waving patriot" who "voted Republican all my life."

He was crushed. "I love my country. I was in mourning for weeks, literally in tears for what has become of this country." Rense Article

Miles Davis's wife - Betty Davis

http://youtube.com/watch?v=iDvvQq4leoo

"NASTY GAL" (1975)

Betty Davis is the Grande Domme of Funk. She inspired husband Miles into reinventing Jazz and himself in '69. She combined the sounds of her friends Sly and Jimi to make intense FunkRock albums of her own. Her fierce sexual persona and aggro voice scared the record industry in the mid-70's. In doing so, she paved the way for such rebels as the Slits, Grace Jones, Nina Hagen, Madonna, Annie Lennox, Diamanda Galas, Boss Hogg, Joi (Gilliam), Nikka Costa, and Peaches. This is the title track from her 1975 masterpiece. Obviously Prince heard it, which inspired him to turn it into "Nasty Girl" by Vanity 6 in 1982.

Pope endorses Pfleger

Vatican: Excommunication for female priests
VATICAN CITY (AP) - The Vatican insisted Friday that it is properly following Christian tradition by excluding females from the priesthood as it issued a new warning that women taking part in ordinations will be excommunicated.

The move dashed the hopes both of women seeking to be priests and of Catholics who see that as an option for a church struggling to recruit men.
