Clinton's American Nightmare, "The Third Way"

Neo-con The Third Way: Clinton's globalization plan The Third Way is code for You're Fucked! IMPORTANT INFO PEEPS! DLC | Event | April 25, 1999 President Bill Clinton led a roundtable discussion with First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton and DLC President Al From in a DLC forum, The Third Way: Progressive Governance for the 21st Century. Joined by honored guests British Prime Minister Tony Blair, German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, Dutch Prime Minister Wim Kok, and Italian Prime Minister Massimo D'Alema, the event was a natural follow-up to the NATO conference. It focused on the common domestic implications of rapid changes in world economic and social trends, and the efforts of Third Way reformers to modernize the politics and policies of center-left political parties in Europe and the United States. http://www.socialdemocrats.org/blairandschroeder6-8-99.html --------------- ----------------------------- A Brief Definition by Elizabeth Martinez and Arnoldo García "Neo-liberalism" is a set of economic policies that have become widespread during the last 25 years or so. Although the word is rarely heard in the United States, you can clearly see the effects of neo-liberalism here as the rich grow richer and the poor grow poorer. "Liberalism" can refer to political, economic, or even religious ideas. In the U.S. political liberalism has been a strategy to prevent social conflict. It is presented to poor and working people as progressive compared to conservative or Right-wing. Economic liberalism is different. Conservative politicians who say they hate "liberals" -- meaning the political type -- have no real problem with economic liberalism, including neo-liberalism. "Neo" means we are talking about a new kind of liberalism. So what was the old kind? The liberal school of economics became famous in Europe when Adam Smith, a Scottish economist, published a book in 1776 called The Wealth of Nations. He and others advocated the abolition of government intervention in economic matters. No restrictions on manufacturing, no barriers to commerce, no tariffs, he said; free trade was the best way for a nation's economy to develop. Such ideas were "liberal" in the sense of no controls. This application of individualism encouraged "free" enterprise," "free" competition -- which came to mean, free for the capitalists to make huge profits as they wished. Neoliberalism and neoconservatism are two distinct political rationalities in the contemporary United States. They have few overlapping formal characteristics, and even appear contradictory in many respects. Yet they converge not only in the current presidential administration but also in their de-democratizing effects. Their respective devaluation of political liberty, equality, substantive citizenship, and the rule of law in favor of governance according to market criteria on the one side, and valorization of state power for putatively moral ends on the other, undermines both the culture and institutions of constitutional democracy. Above all, the two rationalities work symbiotically to produce a subject relatively indifferent to veracity and accountability in government and to political freedom and equality among the citizenry. »

Thanks, pbtrue1
Great accumulation of info regarding neoliberalism. Maybe it's time to shed ourselves of the label, and turn all that villification against the word "liberal" and of "Clinton" to the people's favor--getting those gullible people voting and supporting their own best interests again.
People working harder and longer getting poorer, taken advantaged of, and struggling to hold on to what little, if anything, they have left, while the few, often contributing no sweat of their own but having benefit of capital, reaping the rewards and getting richer.
Was the Third Reich just updated to The Third Way for the new millenium? Does this explain Clinton's association with New World Order George H.W. Bush?
Sadly, it comes down to my asking--are we really voting for the same principles and values as the Rethugs if we vote for the nominee from the Democratic Party?
Whose in charge of the party, US or them?
I guess we will get some answers this Saturday, June 1st and Tuesday, June 3rd...unless someone has advanced inside information :/ Anybody?
