Clinton campaign entering

Clinton campaign entering its twilight
Nick Juliano

Update: Clinton campaign chair says race will be over in early June
With Tuesday's "split" decision in North Carolina and Indiana nonetheless giving Barack Obama a needed shot of adrenaline, experts and observers are coming to the realization that Hillary Clinton cannot win the Democratic presidential nomination.

The "Hillary Deathwatch" maintained by online magazine Slate has plummeted in the last two days -- now down to 2.5 percent, down 10 points from Monday. Online speculators similarly see the former first lady as a bad investment. Investors betting on the Democratic victor at the Intrade political prediction markets give Clinton a less than 9 percent chance of winning, down from around 25 percent the day before this week's primaries.

With perceptions solidifying that Barack Obama will be the Democratic Party's nominee in November -- "the question seems not whether Clinton will exit the race but when," writes Time magazine's Karen Tumulty -- Clinton's campaign is still vowing to fight on, and she's scheduled campaign stops in three upcoming primary states Thursday.

But Clinton's campaign chairman said on Thursday he believes the Democrats will have a presidential nominee in June and that if it is not Clinton, she will campaign for rival Barack Obama.

"She can win the states we need to win in the general election. Why should Hillary Clinton, until there is a nominee with the number of necessary delegates, why should she get out?" Clinton campaign chairman Terry McAuliffe asked on NBC's "Today" show.

"It'll be over early June," McAuliffe said. "We've all said we'll be together at the end. If Hillary doesn't win, Hillary, (former) President (Bill) Clinton, myself, we'll be over there helping Senator Obama. And, likewise, Senator Obama will come together to help Hillary if she's the nominee."

However, the vigorous optimism that accompanied Clinton's campaign even after setbacks earlier in the primary season seems to have deflated.

In a fundraising e-mail to supporters Wednesday night, Clinton struck a defiant tone as she appealed for contributions that would allow her campaign to continue. "Here's why," was the subject line of the e-mail, in which Clinton referenced her "personal determination to keep forging forward."

Too bad she can't bring herself to part with some dignity. This desperation is really beneath her. I like both candidates. I voted Obama, but I would have been OK if the rest of the country had chosen Hillary.

FBI seeking records of 2004

FBI seeking records of 2004 Condoleeza Rice ethics probe
By Marisa Taylor | McClatchy Newspapers

WASHINGTON — FBI agents investigating government watchdog Scott Bloch have subpoenaed any records that would reveal whether concerns about the 2004 elections prompted him to clear Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice of ethics violations.

Bloch, the U.S. special counsel who investigates federal employee whistleblower complaints, found no merit to allegations that Rice, then President Bush's national security adviser, timed some of her trips to boost Bush's 2004 reelection campaign.

The FBI is investigating whether Bloch obstructed justice by destroying computer files to hinder an outside inquiry into allegations that he retaliated against employees who opposed his policies. He's also suspected of making false statements to investigators.

FBI agents, who searched Bloch's office and home Tuesday, subpoenaed 17 of his current and former employees to appear before a federal grand jury and asked them to bring any documents related to possible tampering of records in the office's electronic investigative tracking system, McClatchy has learned.

Officials with knowledge of the investigation also told McClatchy that the FBI has subpoenaed records about the decision to assign Rice's case to an investigator. The officials asked to remain anonymous because they weren't authorized to discuss the investigation.

It's unclear whether the FBI is looking into Bloch's decision to clear Rice or whether agents are seeking evidence in separate obstruction and false-statements investigation.

This is real life. The reality of Shrubco, and the media gatekeepers. We have to fight for the progressive voice.

We'd have to get over it. Because McCain would surely be the death knell for America.

It actually may already be too late, and maybe Hillary would have screwed it up as well, but it would be our only chance.

Rush: Is a big fat Queen . The closet! The closet!

» Political commentator, radio host, college drop-out, alleged closet homosexual, and, as recently revealed, synthetic heroin drug addict, Rush Hudson Limbaugh III is probably the best known neocon personality in American radio.

Born in Cape Girardeau, MO, in 1951, Limbaugh spent many of
his formative years pursuing a career in radio. After using his pilonidal cyst - a congenital birth defect - to
avoid military service in the Vietnam War, Limbaugh briefly
worked for radio stations in Pittsburgh, PA and Kansas City, MO. Fired from both jobs, he worked as a wiener salesman for the KC Royals baseball franchise, eventually slithering back into the radio business.

In 1971 Limbaugh attended Southeastern Missouri University,
where, according to reports, he had a brief but heated affair with Elliot Sanders. So gay is Limbaugh, guarantees Sanders, that, "none of his marriages was ever consummated."

Is anyone listening to Thom? Christy Harvey said something about someone actually named Kaiser Sosay (like in The Usual Suspects) who did something bad. I'm cleaning closets and missed the actual story. Did anyone get what that was about? Didn't find anything on the Center for American Progress page. Also, pbtrue1, real life is pretty horrifying. hmm, tough call. i think his endorsement early on would have had a big impact in swinging the primary. however, given the undercurrent that he thought obama wasn't begging enough while clinton was, i'm not sure that i would have liked his choice even though i supported him $$$.

"Operation Chaos" was hugely successful as self-promotion, and for the boosting of sales of gear -- the coffee mugs, the caps, the jerseys; the autographed, fully-illustrated New Testaments.

Limbaugh's phony-baloney stealth campaign got his name batted around in the cavernous 24-hour newshole by reporters who should know better. His name was on everyone's lips -- a glorious place for any entertainer's name to be.

About Edwards Blogafellows..

I was for Edwards as well. But what continues to haunt me is his refusal to acknowledge what happened in Ohio 2004.

As I have post before, Edwards came to Ohio approximately 3 years ago. He was promoting his poverty initiative. We approached him with our voting horror stories. He responded with silence. A few months later, he returned yet again. He was bombarded with additional accounts of election fraud. Silence was still his response.

I think Edward's poverty initiative was a backhanded tactic for another presidential run. Kerry also came to Ohio. He was exploring the possibility of another run for presidency. To his credit, he did acknowledge that the election was stolen. However, he did nothing about it.

Clinton aide predicts race will be over by June

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democrat Hillary Clinton's campaign chairman said on Thursday he believes the Democrats will have a presidential nominee in June and that if it is not Clinton, she will campaign for rival Barack Obama.

Clinton is given little chance of winning the nomination but so far is rejecting calls by some prominent Democrats to withdraw from the race and cede the field to Obama, a first-term Illinois senator who crushed Clinton in North Carolina on Tuesday and almost defeated her in Indiana.

Disgraced New York Congressman Vito Fossella broke down in tears on the floor of the House of Representatives today, apparently under the emotional weight of his recent behavior.

Clashes erupt for second day in Lebanon

BEIRUT, Lebanon — Witnesses and security officials say Shiite supporters of Hezbollah and Sunni backers of Lebanon's U.S.-allied government are clashing with automatic rifles and grenades.

The latest clashes follow a defiant speech by Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in which he said the militant organizations would respond with force to any attacks.

It is the second day of clashes that have turned some Beirut neighborhoods into battlegrounds. The sectarian confrontation have also spilled over to other parts of the country.

The clashes are taking place on Corniche Mazraa, a major thoroughfare that has become a demarcation line between the two sides, and the Ras el-Nabeh area.

Television footage showed gunmen taking cover on street corners next to shuttered shops. There was no immediate word on casualties.

Guantanamo judge threatens to suspend trial for Canadian detainee over evidence delay

A military judge threatened to suspend the war-crimes trial of a Canadian detainee, scolding the government Thursday for failing to provide records of his confinement at Guantanamo.

Attorneys for Omar Khadr say details of his interrogations and mental health could provide grounds to suppress self-incriminating statements at the U.S. Navy base in southeast Cuba. Khadr is accused of killing a U.S. soldier in Afghanistan.

At a pretrial hearing, Judge Peter Brownback, an Army colonel, criticized the prosecution team led by Marine Maj. Jeffrey Groharing for demanding an expedited trial despite failing to obtain the documents from the detention center.

Clinton Camp Chides NBC

It's no secret that Hillary Clinton's top aides have long been angry at MSNBC for coverage they consider blatantly pro-Obama.

But the final straw seems to have come Tuesday night, when Tim Russert, NBC's Washington bureau chief, declared on MSNBC: "We now know who the Democratic nominee is going to be, and no one is going to dispute it." Other MSNBC pundits agreed, and Russert repeated the verdict yesterday, saying that barring a collapse by Barack Obama or an act of God, "this race is over."

In an e-mail yesterday, Jay Carson, Clinton's press secretary, told NBC's political director Chuck Todd: "Can you think of one good reason we should continue to cart you guys around the country with us, given that your network has declared the entire race over?"

Blogger Oliver Willis, who is African-American, weighs in with a post titled "Hillary White Power Clinton":

Indeed, a pattern has emerged some time ago. Boy, did we dodge a bullet.

“[W]orking, hard-working Americans, white Americans.” She really said that. Wow.

Congratulations, Hillary Clinton, you win the prize for the first Democratic Bigot Eruption since I’ve been keeping track of this. Even professional haters like Pat Buchanan and his ilk aren’t so balls-out about racism. You’ve been getting your ass handed to you and especially among black voters. This shows me once again that we - who are apparently lazy and shiftless non-Americans based on your definition - have yet again been a leading indicator.

There was maybe a slight chance Barack Obama might have been pushed to pick you as his running mate, but we can’t have someone spouting Klan-style talking points on the ticket. Heck, there’s a good shot with language like that you won’t win back your senate seat in 2012. I mean, a lot of those apparently lazy and shiftless non-American blacks helped you to win and they’d just as soon vote for someone else in the primary or the Republican in the election rather than someone echoing Bull Connor’s language.

“Working, hard working Americans, white Americans,” indeed.

"fight"!

only if you add an exclamation point!

the list goes on.

LOL...

"Can you think of one good reason we should continue to cart you guys around the country with us, given that your network has declared the entire race over?"

Then go on and dump 'em Hillary. I'm sure that will solve all your campaign's problems.

Anyone else hearing the desparation in these voices?

Last gasp...

In an e-mail yesterday, Jay Carson, Clinton's press secretary, told NBC's political director Chuck Todd: "Can you think of one good reason we should continue to cart you guys around the country with us, given that your network has declared the entire race over?"

__________

Which is more enraging-- the fact that they are threatening the media with Chimp-like verbiage or the fact that they are apparently more delusional than Sean Young?

whenever you hear someone say, "woman who thought that everything was 'unbelievable'" you should immediately think of Rhodes

I listened to her show fairly often during its last few weeks. I often wondered what she thought WAS believable.

It's a possible win-win-win for Clinton to continue

She has numerous goals here and she's bound to accomplish at least one:

o oust the entire liberal/progressive element of the party so that the DLC finally wins
o turn the dem party into another version of the republican party -- by attracting reactionary Christianists, racists (Southern and otherwise), and those who love being pandered to and are easily manipulated/propagandized
o get the nomination (and here's my conspiracy speculation contribution) by means of making deals better than even the deals that addled McCain can be trusted to deliver, thereby Hillary would get the blessing of the BushCo-controlled corrupt electronic elections technology cartel (or whatever it can be called).

Hillary, being a Christianist (as her 15 years with The Fellowship indicates), can be viewed as a step above non-Christianist McCain when it comes to attracting the old-time religion (reactionary) vote -- so she truly might do better than McCain when it comes to attracting Bush's base! She is totally pro on prayer in schools, religious lessons in schools, faith-based initiatives, status quo patriarchy (she didn't leave Bill for L'Affaire Lewinsky and loves the military and imperialism, and apartheid in Israel).

Beirut racked by street

The Lebanese army did not participate in the fighting.

But Robert Fisk, a journalist in Beirut, speaking to Al Jazeera, said that could change if the fighting escalated.

"If we have a situation where one group of people move into another group's area - either Shia or Sunni - then the army may have to take much harsher measures and that immediately raises the question of 'what is the future of the Lebanese army', because it's made up of all the citizens of this country, not just one group or the other," Fisk said.

The White House demanded Hezbollah stop "disruptive activities".

"Hezbollah needs to make a choice - be a terrorist organisation or be a political party, but quit trying to be both," Gordon Johndroe, a White House spokesman, said.

"They need to start playing a constructive role and stop their disruptive activities now."

win-win-win for Clinton to continue

I have believed this all along. I believe she is a thousand times more dangerous than McCain. Had should become the nominee, and then won the general, after she iniated a war with Iran, you would have seen most of the Dems turn around and support that disaster.

Only Two News Networks

Only Two News Networks Willing To Explain Their Role In Pentagon Propaganda Program
On April 20, the New York Times published a blockbuster exposé revealing a secret Pentagon program that used retired military analysts to “generate favorable news coverage of the administration’s wartime performance.” Though the analysts often had “ties to military contractors vested in the very war policies” they assessed on air, their potential conflicts of interest were “hardly ever disclosed to the viewers.”

Four days after the Times’ expose hit newsstands, Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) wrote letters to the heads of ABC News, CBS News, CNN News, Fox News Channel, and NBC News asking for “specifics about each outlet’s policies surrounding the hiring and vetting of military analysts reporting on the Iraq War.” Here’s part of what she wrote to ABC News head David Westin:

When the American people turn on their TV news, they expect coverage of the Iraq War and military issues to be using analysts without conflicts of interests. When you put analysts on the air without fully disclosing their business interests, as well as relationships with high-level officials within the government, the public trust is betrayed.

Politico reports today that only Westin and CNN’s Jim Walton have responded to DeLauro’s questions. In his response, Westin asserted that ABC News had “acted responsibly”:

From what I know of our reporting involving our military analysts, I am satisfied that ABC News has acted responsibly and has served its audience well.

Both Westin and Walton’s responses lacked any genuine self-examination. But the fact that they were even willing to reply is more than the other networks did, proving that the Washington Post’s Howard Kurtz was right when he said “the networks are ducking this one, big time.” In the week after the story broke, the Project for Excellence in Journalism found that “out of approximately 1,300 news stories, only two touched on the Pentagon analysts scoop — both airing on PBS’s ‘NewsHour.’”

DeLauro, along with 40 other lawmakers, are calling on the Pentagon’s Inspector General to investigate the program.

I want Maron & Seder

on the radio.

And now a message from the last actual president of the U.S.

Dear Friend,

We have to make every one of the next 27 days count -- please act today!
I want to tell you about the day I had on Monday. I stopped in nine towns throughout North Carolina, starting the day at 7:30 a.m. in Elizabeth City and ending with a rally in Raleigh. That's the most stops I've ever done in a single day -- for any campaign. And I couldn't be happier to work that hard for Hillary.

I talked to a lot of people that day, and one thing was crystal clear -- people want Hillary to stay in this race until every last voter has a say. That's why Hillary and I are working so hard. That's why we've made a deep commitment to keep campaigning, keep fighting, and keep winning.

We have had a lot of success in this campaign, and our come-from-behind victory in Indiana is the latest example of how Hillary wins when she has your support behind her. As long as you share her commitment to winning, this race is going to continue.

Our next test is just five days away in West Virginia. Hillary needs your help right now to keep winning.

Contribute now to help us show the strength of our campaign.

I know something about coming back to win after you've been counted out. So does Hillary. Over the course of this campaign, the pundits have tried to declare a premature end to the race dozens of times.

Well, last time I checked, it's still up to the voters. And there are a lot of voters who haven't had their say yet.

It's up to us to make sure that the voters in West Virginia and the other states yet to come are given a choice. I urge you to act now to help Hillary keep fighting.

Show your support by making a contribution today.

I wish I could talk to every last person who has worked so hard for Hillary to thank you for everything you've done for her. You mean so much to both of us. She's still in this thing because of your hard work and your indomitable spirit.

Sincerely,

Bill Clinton

Arsenio

Arsenio Hall sometimes guests on a radio show here in L.A. as a favor to his friend.
Yesterday they were cracking numerous jokes at a vain attempt to be humorous. Then they played clips of the Hilldabeast's speech.
"WE'VE BROKEN THE TIE, AND NOW IT'S FULL SPEED AHEAD TO THE WHITE HOUSE."
Arsenio (with no trace of jocularity-- almost in a disturbed tone): "She sounds totally insane."

Even though it wasn't a joke, it was the statement at which I actually laughed-- and I laughed hard.

Marc's a good comedian.

His crew was superb too.
