Streaming the audio for
today and Wednesday would probably be helpful... of course I imagine
you can figure a way in which to stream audio and still watch on the
sammy cam.

watch on the SammYCam in effect here (lg) and here (small) small gives most users better stability.

Thanks Sam

Sounds like a good show again!

Problem with streaming...

Some people are like Slinkies... not good for much, but bring a smile to your face when pushed down the stairs.

The Night the Old Politics

The Night the Old Politics Died (Brent Budowsky)
@ 9:10 am
The old politics died on May 6, 2008, as the predictable and inevitable happened and the voters said no to business as usual.

The voters said no to the most phony and fraudulent proposal in memory for a gas tax cut that would never happen, that would profit the oil companies that Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) falsely said she was fighting with it, that would do nothing for the people she falsely claimed she was helping with it.

The most reprehensible and shameful aspect of this gas tax fraud was in its cheap exploitation of people who are hurting, and fearful. There is nothing lower in politics that exploiting people who are hurting, trying to deceive them. The voters said no. > Read More

HRC - More Race Baiting

Now, apparently, the Clinton camp is suggesting that the massive loss they suffered was a victory of sort because they won the "white" vote in North Carolina.

I found this at TPM and find it disturbing to the point of head exploding:

Garin argued that the North Carolina contest, which Obama won by 14 points, represented "progress" for Hillary because she did better among white voters there than she did in Virginia.

Garin said that the Virginia electorate was the "closest white electorate in the country" to North Carolina, and added that Hillary "started even" among whites in North Carolina, and "ended up earning a significant win of 24 points."

Put in the context of the Hillary campaign's chief argument that she's the more electable Dem, Garin's overall implication here is that her success among white voters in North Carolina yesterday is "progress" in the sense that it strengthens her case for electability.

In other words, it's an explicit, and unabashed, linking of her claim of electability to her success among whites.

Sam seems

very nervous today. Not his usual self.

Wonder what's up?

The Real ID is also causing problems getting Birth certificates

I work with mentally challenge people some of which where abandon at birth. So now that companies are trying to get them state IDs it is becoming impossible.

I have a friend who's mentally challenge client wasn't born in the hospital yet the place to send the birth certificate won't take the form because that spot is blank.

I was just thinking of those 80 and 90 year old nuns from yesterday and really a lot of others who can't get updated IDs because of birth certificate problems...

It is just a real mess.

Wonder what's up?

If the AAR stream isn't coming up for you, close the window and try opening it again. I had to do this 5 times before I got it to work, but it did work eventually.

Free on-demand trial

Did everybody see that if you have canceled premium previously or never had it you can get a free two-week trial for "on-demand" (formerly premium) so you can download podcasts of this week and then if they screw Sam again we can all cancel in one big group and send a message and potentially it won't even cost us anything? (That was a long question.) Unless that is somehow not OK with Sam.

AAR audio stream is working fine for me today.

My take

I think its because today is his last day "guest hosting" - and because Monday was a big hit day for listeners etc.... he wants to make sure that today is just as big if not bigger. And I am sure that because its the day after a primary which was SO close, they are looking closely to see how HE does with bringing in people to listen for news.
AND of course - he is IN the offices in NYC - not in his home office upstate - so he has to be more "on guard".
Besides, who knows what TPTB said to him today behind the scenes? They could be watching the Sammy Cam....we have to remember that....

JMHO - but that is the feel I get.

Bitter Liberals

Conservatives Happier Than Liberal
--

Individuals with conservative ideologies are happier than liberal-leaners, and new research pinpoints the reason: Conservatives rationalize social and economic inequalities.

Regardless of marital status, income or church attendance, right-wing individuals reported greater life satisfaction and well-being than left-wingers, the new study found. Conservatives also scored highest on measures of rationalization, which gauge a person's tendency to justify, or explain away, inequalities.

The rationalization measure included statements such as: "It is not really that big a problem if some people have more of a chance in life than others," and "This country would be better off if we worried less about how equal people are."

To justify economic inequalities, a person could support the idea of meritocracy, in which people supposedly move up their economic status in society based on hard work and good performance. In that way, one's social class attainment, whether upper, middle or lower, would be perceived as totally fair and justified.

If your beliefs don't justify gaps in status, you could be left frustrated and disheartened, according to the researchers, Jaime Napier and John Jost of New York University. They conducted a U.S.-centric survey and a more internationally focused one to arrive at the findings.

"Our research suggests that inequality takes a greater psychological toll on liberals than on conservatives," the researchers write in the June issue of the journal Psychological Science, "apparently because liberals lack ideological rationalizations that would help them frame inequality in a positive (or at least neutral) light."

The results support and further explain a Pew Research Center survey from 2006, in which 47 percent of conservative Republicans in the U.S. described themselves as "very happy," while only 28 percent of liberal Democrats indicated such cheer.

The same rationalizing phenomena could apply to personal situations as well.

"There is no reason to think that the effects we have identified here are unique to economic forms of inequality," the researchers write. "Research suggests that highly egalitarian women are less happy in their marriages compared with their more traditional counterparts, apparently because they are more troubled by disparities in domestic labor."

The current study was funded by the National Science Foundation.

Michelle Obama's gospel of bitterness

This past Friday Michelle Obama gave essentially the same stump speech in Charlotte, North Carolina that she had given the week earlier in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Based on the stump speech, Yuval Levin calls Mrs. Obama "The unhappiest millionaire." Levin's NRO column carries a link to the C-SPAN video of Mrs. Obama's North Carolina speech. It is well worth watching.

Levin characterizes the pervasive themes of Mrs. Obama's stump speech as the "gospel of bitterness." Levin finds Barack Obama to be preaching a similar gospel, albeit one that benefits from "a peppier and more upbeat stump speech[.]" Senator Obama's enormous political skills make it much more difficult to discern the somewhat repulsive views and attitudes that are nakedly on display in Mrs. Obama's stump speech.

Michelle Obama seethes with bitterness. While she preaches the gospel according to Barack, she wears resentment and bitterness on her sleeve. It is therefore painful to listen to her. She's apparently even still angry about her SAT scores. She didn't test well in school, she explains. Somehow, she has overcome.

Mrs. Obama seeks to convey convey the impression -- she expands on the theme at great length -- that Senator Obama's campaign is, to borrow Joe McCarthy's formulation, the victim of "a conspiracy so immense..." It is not clear whether the Obama campaign can overcome the power of these sinister forces.

According to Mrs. Obama, the Obama campaign has been constrained by nameless forces constantly changing the rules of the game and thereby preventing Senator Obama from securing the nomination. Who are "they"? Mrs. Obama says just enough about these nameless forces for us to infer that "they" include the Clintons and their supporters. "They" seem also (incredibly) to include the mainstream media. These nameless forces have approximately the same specificity as the names on Joe McCarthy's list.

In her North Carolina speech Mrs. Obama reiterates the condescending political sociology that she elaborated in her Fort Wayne remarks and that Barack Obama preached at his closed-door fundraiser with the San Francisco Democrats. Given the modesty of her and her husband's family backgrounds, Mrs. Obama denies that she or her husband could be elitists.

...

As I said last week about Mrs. Obama's Fort Wayne remarks: As long as Senator Obama won't require us to listen to the missus, I might be willing to settle for the compulsory mental readjustments.

PAUL adds: So Michelle Obama didn't do very well on her SATs but was admitted to Princeton? No wonder she's sore.

One of the problems with lowering the bar pursuant to "affirmative action" is that placing the bar back where it was requires raising it.

GI Bill

Soltz: Pentagon’s Spin On GI Bill Is ‘Offensive Nonsense’ That ‘Insults The Intelligence’ Of Soldiers

Our guest blogger is Jon Soltz, chairman of VoteVets.org and veteran of the Iraq war.

sdf.gif Yesterday, ThinkProgress highlighted the latest reason from the Bush administration to oppose a real GI Bill for troops, offered by Senators Webb and Hagel. The Pentagon spokesperson said, in part:

[W]e are certainly concerned that this would be eligible to them after only two years of service. We think pegging it to a longer period of service — the number we have in mind, at this point, is six years of service — that the longer you stay in, the sweeter the benefits are to you. Six years would show a commitment to service. … The last thing we want to do is provide a benefit — or the last thing we want to do is create a situation in which we are losing our men and women who we have worked so hard to train.

Hillary is hurting

Hillary is hurting congressional candidates
by John Aravosis (DC) · 5/07/2008 02:15:00 PM ET · Link
Discuss this post here: 35 Comments · reddit · FARK ·· Digg It!

Joe and I have spoken with Democratic House and Senate candidates, and they agree that Hillary is hurting their campaigns.

One congressional candidate told us that if Hillary is the nominee, it's a guaranteed 5 point hit they take right from the start (meaning, they start the race 5-points down in the polls). Why? Because too many people hate Hillary. That's why her negatives are higher than her positives. She will bring out voters who might not have voted otherwise. And the voters she will bring out will be rabid conservatives who will vote against Democrats across the board.

Another congressional candidate told us that it's even worse than that. Not only will the candidate have to publicly run AGAINST Hillary, should she get the nomination, but she's already damaging their campaign. First off, fundraising. The money isn't coming in, first because everyone is focused on the Hillary-Obama race, and not paying attention to congressional races. Another problem, people are pissed off, on all sides. They're not in the mood to give. And finally, some major donors don't want to give to any second-tier campaigns (meaning, campaigns that have less of a chance, but still have a chance, of winning) until they see whether Hillary or Obama get the nomination. Why? Because if Hillary gets the nomination, our candidates in red states, or states that are red/blue, will get slaughtered, and thus there's no reason to fund them. (We're seeing it on our own site. People are not giving to congressional races like they did in 2006.) And don't forget, even the DNC admitted last week that the ongoing Hillary-Obama saga has hurt their efforts to raise money to take on John McCain.

But there's another problem Hillary is causing. These campaigns can't get the field staff they need. Potential field staff are telling the campaigns that they have no idea what they're doing in the coming months because the Obama-Hillary battle isn't settled. This is a very real problem - one candidate said it's killing them.

One final point, we were told: the black vote. In states or cities with a large black community, Obama will bring them out in droves. Hillary, on the other hand, is suffering from a blacklash, so to speak. Her poll numbers among blacks have plummeted after her campaign's repeated race-baiting. But not only will a Hillary candidacy potentially turn blacks away from voting, it won't inspire them TO vote. One candidate told us that they have a major city with a sizable black vote. The problem? The black community in that area has a notoriously bad voter turnout. If Obama is the nominee, that candidate will get a 3 percentage point bump in the polls votes because of the increased black turnout - but if Hillary is the nominee, they lose that 3%, added on to the 5% hit they take because of her name inspiring every far-right loon to vote.

Hillary's bizarre and reckless desire to continue in the race even after she's lost isn't just hurting our nominee, Barack Obama, she's now hurting our congressional candidates. Our superdelegates in Congress, in the states, and at the DNC, need to do something now to end this farce. Where is Wesley Clark? Where is Al Gore? Where is Jimmy Carter? And where is John Edwards?

heard on a video clip

that 7% of voters were republicans.
And, those 7% were breaking 2-1 for Clinton.

oh?

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), one of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's (D-N.Y.) most prominent Senate supporters, said Wednesday that she will ask the former first lady to detail her plans for the rest of the Democratic primary.

"I, as you know, have great fondness and great respect for Sen. Clinton and I'm very loyal to her," Feinstein said. "Having said that, I'd like to talk with her and [get] her view on the rest of the race and what the strategy is." ...

"I think the race is reaching the point now where there are negative dividends from it, in terms of strife within the party," Feinstein said. "I think we need to prevent that as much as we can."

Hillary Super-Delegate

Hillary Super-Delegate Defects To Obama
By Eric Kleefeld - May 7, 2008, 3:43PM
Barack Obama is picking up yet more super-delegate support -- and Hillary Clinton might be starting to bleed hers.

Virginia DNC member Jennifer McClellan has now switched from supporting Hillary over to Obama, further diminishing her slim advantage in the super-del count.

The super-delegate scoreboard from NBC News before McClellan's switch was 273.5 for Hillary, 259 for Obama -- making the new score 272.5 Hillary, 260 Obama.

Paper That Endorsed Hillary Calls On Her To Exit Race
By Greg Sargent - May 7, 2008, 2:51PM

The Washington Blade, which endorsed Hillary, calls on her to step out of the race today in an editorial penned by the paper's editor....

Last night's results in the North Carolina and Indiana primaries have left Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton out of options. She ran a tough and spirited campaign that will be talked about for a generation. But it's over.

The time has come for Clinton to adopt a gracious and conciliatory tone, end her campaign and endorse Sen. Barack Obama for president.

To our knowledge it's the first paper backing Hillary to call on her to leave. If any of you see other papers around the country doing the same -- or, for that matter, urging her to stay in -- please send 'em my way.

Hillary will go through all of the primaries.

the problem with that is obama wasn't on the ballots in michigan or florida.Hillary illegally put herself on those ballots against the rules of the dem. party.

so if those votes were counted then obama would have zero in each state

but my point is it wasn't really a 'vote' with only one person on the ballot.

If they really want to do it right then they should hold another election.(of course that will never happen)

frankly it's just sad the way hillary is trying to drag her defeat out.

When Democrats Go Post-al

When Democrats Go Post-al

I hate to say this but I am becoming convinced that the fix is in for McCain. The media is setting it up as we speak so that it will sound plausible when he wins. And then they will blame Clinton for staying in the fight. However, it won't really be her fault. The fix was always in. They will steal the vote and make it seem as if McCain won... just like Bush.

Just my observation.
