What Congress Really Voted For: Benchmark #1: Privatizing Iraqi Oil for US Oil Companies

By Ann Wright, US Army Reserves Colonel, Retired.

Thursday, May 24 the US Congress voted to continue the war on Iraq. They called it “supporting the troops.” I call it stealing Iraq’s oil-the second largest oil reserves in the world. The “benchmark” or goal the Bush administration has been working on furiously since the US invaded Iraq is the privatization of Iraqi oil. Now they have the US Congress blackmailing the Iraqi Parliament and Iraqi people: no privatization of Iraqi oil, no reconstruction funds.

What Are We Fighting For? (A Guide)

1.) Exxon-Mobil and Chevron-Standard.

2.) Paris Hilton -- who is a rich person, and therefore
more important than any of us. I suppose this means
we're fighting for her recent, uh, "chestal enhancements",
too.

3.) The right for Monica Goodling to dodge any legal penalty
for those little bad things she regrets now, and for testi-
mony that wasn't so much forthcoming as it was a whitewash.

4.) More skin on the Internets.

5.) For president Richard M. Cheney, and his right to declare
war on Iran pretty soon.

6.) For eight great tomatoes in an itty-bitty can.

7.) For Condo "Manly" Rice's shoe closet, and her right to
date the girl of her choice.

8.) For another three seasons of "American Idol", and "Judge Judy".

9.) For the right to discriminate against immigrants, and to
do as much as possible to roll back every New Deal saftey net,
and to gut the Civil Rights Act, and relegate the idea of A
Woman's Right To Choose to the toilet.

10.) For the right of the 'Reverends' Pat Robertson, James Dobson,
and all the rest of America's fat, white evangelical cult leaders to
buy themselves a third chin, tax-free.

All these things would be denied to us under the rule of the murderous
Al-Qaeda Caliphate, which is the reason for our invasion of Iraq and
all the sacrifices borne so bravely by our troops, and the Iraqi people,
who have lost by British estimates over half a million dead.

I guess if they had "Judge Judy" broadcast in Baghdad, they would
understand why they made such sacrifices for Freedom.

I read this....

And I trust Ann Wright. But what I don't understand is...did the Dems actually put the privatizing of the oil fields in the bill?
If so, then it makes all their posturing a lie. They don't want to get out, either. The troops have to stay there to protect the
oil for the 'Companies". Blackwell can't do it all...and especially as cheaply as our troops do it. (since we taxpayers pay them).
Here is something else I read somewhere....Condi was on the Board of Chevron (they named a ship after her!) when Chevron was
sneaking kickbacks to Saddam in the Oil-for-Food debacle. Wonder how many children she is responsible for starving?
