we are where we were
six weeks ago except there are a lot less pledged delegates in play, Obama has gained nearly 50 superdelgates and Clinton has now vetted our Democratic Nominee.
| Candidate | Votes | Percent | ||
| CLINTON, HILLARY (DEM)
|
1,101,488 | 54.8% | ||
| OBAMA, BARACK (DEM)
|
907,550 | 45.2% |

Raise your hand if you are not voting for Hillary
even if she becomes the nominee.
Dem's worst dream
If Clinton's margin of victory stayed where it was at 95% reporting -- about 10 percentage points -- she'd end up carving 200,000 votes off Obama's lead, drawing her closer to a popular vote lead. Obama leads in the polls in the next-largest state yet to vote, North Carolina.
The popular vote is crucial to Clinton because Obama, who has scored better in low-voting caucuses in small states, is unlikely to lose his lead in elected delegates. Thus, when both candidates woo the roughly 300 undecided superdelegates -- the party leaders who will provide the decisive margin -- Obama will claim that he has won the most delegates and therefore should be crowned the nominee. Clinton's only chance to undercut him is to point out that she actually won more votes.
"This looks like the Democratic party leaders' worst dream -- a Clinton margin not large enough to put her in a strong position to carry on and an Obama vote not large enough to end things," said University of Pennsylvania political scientist Donald F. Kettl, in an emailed response. ``This is going to continue on, and put the party into the tough job of finding the endgame."
Any bets on who wins this one?
Murdoch Taking on F.C.C. Media Rule
By STEPHEN LABATON
Published: April 23, 2008
WASHINGTON — As he nears completion of a deal to acquire Newsday from the Tribune Company, Rupert Murdoch appears likely to pose the first significant challenge to the media ownership rule that the Federal Communications Commission recently adopted.
Even without Newsday, Mr. Murdoch was in the process of seeking waivers to continue to control two newspapers (The Wall Street Journal and The New York Post) and two television stations (WNYW and WWOR) in the New York area.
With those waiver requests pending at the F.C.C., the Newsday deal means that Mr. Murdoch must now apply for a waiver to own the two television stations and three newspapers in the same market.

Chavez says food prices "massacre" of world's poor
Wed Apr 23, 2008 4:23am BST
CARACAS (Reuters) - Soaring food prices are a "massacre" of the world's poor and are creating a global nutritional crisis, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said on Tuesday, calling it a sign that capitalism is in decline.
His comments came only hours after the United Nations' World Food Program called more expensive food a "silent tsunami" that threatens to plunge more than 100 million people on every continent into hunger.
"It is a true massacre what is happening in the world," Chavez said in a televised speech, citing U.N. statistics about deaths caused by hunger and malnourishment.
"The problem is not the production of food ... it is the economic, social and political model of the world. The capitalist model is in crisis."

I live in Ohio.. So it's something rotten going on.
As I posted on the last thread, when the results stop, they are manipulating the vote. Since 7:30 P.M., there has been no results, just the 55 to 45. It stop at 10 points. Just what apple bottom needed. Mmmm.
It's quite simple really. If the Clinton's are willing to lie, they are willing to steal.

Can't say I'd vote for Hillary at this point
The Democratic Party will have to work extra hard to convince me to vote for Hillary, even though I really can't stand the thought of another Bush term under the new brand name McCain. The way Hillary's run her campaign has turned me off so much - when I used to have nothing but good will for her - I can't, at this moment in time, imagine voting for her.

Rev. Jesse Jackson Calls For US Government Intervention In Haiti Food Crisis
April 21, 2008 4:30 p.m. EST
D.C. Morales - AHN News Writer
Port-au-Prince, Haiti (AHN)-As the food riots continue in Haiti, the Reverend Jesse Jackson says the U.S. government has a moral responsibility to provide food, water and security to Haiti.
"It's painful and yet it's embarrassing, a nation such as ours, so great, so able, so blessed, to no let it happen on our watch... We as America have some obligation and some need to address the Haitian crisis, and we ought to," said Jackson as he delivered a speech for the congregation of the 93rd Street Community Church in northwest Miami.
Soaring prices of food, particularly the staple rice, triggered massive food riots and protests in Haiti since last week, which has killed six already. A six-pound of rice sells for US$4 already in Haiti, where 80 percent of the people live on less than $2 USD a day.
Jackson was joined by Jean Robert La Fortune, president of Haitian American grassroots coalition; elected officials, community activists and ministers during the rally for Haiti
Meanwhile, U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek already flew to Port-au-Prince, where he plans to meet with Haitian business officials and President Rene Preval to discuss the impact of the food crisis on Haiti's 8.5 million citizens.

Richard Smoley's thoughts on £o♡e
http://www.realitysandwich.com/just_what_is_love_anyway
Nearly a half-century ago the Christian apologist C.S. Lewis wrote a book called The Four Loves. He carved up the terrain of his subject into four quarters, based on the words the ancient Greeks used for love (equated with eros or sexual love; family love; friendship; and agape or unconditional love, pronounced a-gah-pay). This makes sense up to a point: ancient Greek, unlike today's English, didn't have to make one single word cover everything from the highest sentiments imaginable to plain old lust. Even so, the Greek delineation of four loves is perhaps as arbitrary as those of any other language.
Essentially, I believe, love can be divided into two major kinds: transactional love and unconditional love. Much of the suffering we experience comes from our failure to tell the two apart.
Transactional love is based on bargains, reciprocities, and keeping inner accounts. Practically everything we call love falls under this category. The problem is that we fail to recognize this fact. Sometimes we refuse to recognize it.
This may sound cold and cynical. I don't care. Most writing about love is like cake frosting, giving a heady sugar rush but offering nothing in the way of solid nourishment. I have no intention of adding to this pile of loathsome sweetness.
In any event, it's not hard to prove that most love is transactional.

A paradigm shift was occurring in the American electorate with the Obama Campaign. You cannot deny that. Considering the death grip the Conservatives have on the country, Obama had caused a flicker of optimism. That is, until apple bottom had to remind everyone that he had a black father. The media of course was waiting with bated breath to pounce on the race issue. They've been salivating like rabid dogs to jump on Obama. And she open the door.
I predicted on this very blog that the Democrats would use throw down the race card before the Republicans.
And I was right.

The mistress stated: "Oh Yes! The other night we met in the office. I was wearing the leather bodice, mega stilettos, mask over my eyes and a raincoat. When I opened the raincoat, he didn't say a word. We just had wild sex all night."
The married one then said: "The other night I sent the kids to stay at my mothers for the night, I got myself ready, leather bodice, super stilettos and mask over my eyes. My husband came in from work, grabbed the TV controller and a beer, and said, "Hey Batman, what's for dinner?"

There is something that is troubling to me about Edwards. After the 2004 election, Edwards started his poverty initiative. He came to Ohio twice. Many of us disenfranchised voters approached Edwards. We told him what had happened with the vote. Edward's response was silence. To my recollection, he has never acknowledged what happened here in Ohio. This in spite of the hearings conducted "in Ohio" by John Conyers, Jerry Nadler and Maxine Waters. Hell Conyers wrote a book with Mark Crispin Miller about it.
I don't think Edwards or Kerry contributed any resources to find out what happened in Ohio. It was done with grassroots efforts and a few dedicated attorneys.

before I vote for Hillary. Not because I don't like her, but because the only way she can win the nomination at this point is via unfair insider game at the convention which means she will be a damaged candidate in the general which means McCain will most likely win.
Even is she wins the general as a weak candidate supported only by a divided party I am not sure the dems will keep the Senate and perhaps have an even slimmer margin in the house than today. add to this Hillary's high negatives and she will be a lame duck 1 term pres at most.
So it will be time to polish that resume and look for greener pastures. I already lost a decade, I am not planning on loosing another. Not sure about the planet though, can we ask the planet to move?!
In this case, simplest answer is correct

Simple, really. Kerry knew he'd lost.
Dear Friend,
Thanks to you, we won a critically important victory tonight in Pennsylvania. It's a giant step forward that will transform the landscape of the presidential race. And it couldn't have happened without you.
There will be much more to do beginning tomorrow. But tonight, let's just celebrate the fact that you and I are part of a remarkable community of people tough enough, passionate enough, and determined enough to win big when everything is on the line.
Thanks so much for all you do.
Sincerely,
Hillary Rodham Clinton
Friend --
Votes are still being counted in Pennsylvania, but one thing is already clear.
In a state where we trailed by more than 25 points just a couple weeks ago, you helped close the gap to a slimmer margin than most thought possible.
Thanks to your support, with just 9 contests remaining, we've won more delegates, more votes, and twice as many contests.
We hold a commanding position, but there are two crucial contests coming up -- voters will head to the polls in North Carolina and Indiana in exactly two weeks. And we're already building our organization in the other remaining states.
But it's clear the attacks are going to continue, and we're going to continue fighting a two-front battle against John McCain and Hillary Clinton.
I need your support right now. Please make a donation of $25:

Hillary gets only small delegate bump from PA
by John Aravosis (DC) · 4/22/2008 11:53:00 PM ET · Link
As predicted, Pennsylvania changed nothing. Obama still leads Hillary by 131 delegates overall, and 156 pledged (not "super") delegates:
NBC News has allocated so far a 75-65 split for Clinton out of Pennsylvania; 18 delegates are not allocated yet.
With that, Obama now leads by 156 pledged delegates: 1,482-1,326.
Our superdelegate total is Clinton 262, Obama 237.
In all, Obama now leads by 131 overall: 1,719-1,588.

About those supposed Clinton & Obama voters going for McCain
by John Aravosis (DC) · 4/22/2008 11:37:00 PM ET · Link
These surveys, about what percentage of Clinton and Obama voters would rather vote for McCain than the other Democrat, have it all wrong. You don't ask Obama voters a generic hypothetical about whether they'd vote for Hillary if she won the nomination. I don't know a single Obama voter who wouldn't. You ask Obama voters if they'd vote for Hillary if she gets the nomination even if she never catches up to Obama in pledged delegates (i.e., she's handed the nomination by the SuperDelegates and/or some trick involving reinstating Florida and Michigan). Then watch and see how many Obama voters are willing to support her. I think you'll be lucky if she breaks 50%.

Hillary can't win against McCain, but she will make damn sure Obama won't either.
As long as we have a veto proof majority, I could even stand Ron Paul....
One more and then I need to sleep
I have to be at the hospital early for the infusion.
China's next headache - the stock market crash

If anything could make China forget about the Olympics, it's the fall of their stock market. This is actually serious and could cause much more significant changes in their system.
But China's stock market bubble has burst, leaving 150 million share investors waking up to their worst hangover ever. The combined effect of a vertigo-inducing rise in inflation, new regulations and a slowdown in the US economy has brought share prices down as quickly as they went up. Indeed, after further falls this week, Chinese shares are worth just half what they were last October, when the market peaked
One problem is the strength of the Chinese economy – and the inflationary pressures that has brought. Fears that government initiatives to tackle inflation will damage corporate profits has wiped $1.9 trillion off the value of Chinese companies since the beginning of the year. "The dive is the reflection of investors' mounting concern about the economic scenario," said Zhang Ling, a fund manager based in Beijing. "Runaway inflation is pretty bad for the economy and equities, raising costs and slowing earnings growth."
Nor does the outlook for the global economy help confidence in China, which has built much of its boom on exports, the demand for which may now dry up. The rising cost of global commodities also threatens profits.

The Rude Pundit: To Hillary Clinton Supporters
Your Candidate Just Said She's Prepared to Murder Millions of Innocent People
Okay, good and honest Hillary Clinton supporters, men and women, let's have a little history lesson for some context. Back in 1984, our then President, Ronald Reagan, no doubt in the early stages of Alzheimer's, made a little joke while testing a mike. Not thinking anyone beyond the studio would ever hear, he said, "My fellow Americans, I'm pleased to tell you today that I've signed legislation that will outlaw Russia forever. We begin bombing in five minutes." When the quote got out, Reagan's lead over Walter Mondale slipped (very temporarily) by seven points. The Left was justifiably in an uproar over it. And Reagan was making a joke - a bad one, one that no doubt revealed his actual mindset, but, still and all, a joke.
For the third time now, Hillary Clinton, your candidate, has non-jokingly threatened to destroy Iran if that nation launches a nuclear strike on Israel. At the debate last week, she said Iran would face "massive retaliation." On Olbermann last night, she reiterated that and added, as if to clarify, that Iran's "use of nuclear weapons against Israel would provoke a nuclear response from the United States."
Today, she took it even further, into territory that, c'mon, admit it, Clinton supporters, if a Republican had said it, you'd be going nutzoid about the fearmongering and paranoiac fantasizing. Said Clinton on Good Morning America, "I want the Iranians to know that if I'm the president, we will attack Iran. In the next 10 years, during which they might foolishly consider launching an attack on Israel, we would be able to totally obliterate them."
Yes, she claims to be saying it only to offer deterrence. But, really, isn't that understood about the United States? That if we wanted to, we could "totally obliterate" most of the Earth? So, by saying it, Clinton accomplishes something of a pandering trifecta: she lets the Israel-humpers know she's willing to wreck shit for them, she lets the pro-military people know she ain't scared of shit, and she lets gun owners know she's willing to fire the largest gun of all. Who's got the biggest dick now, eh, Barack?
(Note: the above line is not unconscious and dunderheaded sexism. It is a deliberate and conscious use of feminist critical theory to demonstrate just how extreme Clinton has become in her embrace of the phallocentric policies of her male predecessors. Indeed, the entire trajectory of Clinton's campaign can be traced as a kind of reification of phallic power as a sad and unnecessary means of attempting to legitimize a female candidate to those enmeshed with the dominant patriarchy, those who might find such a candidate weak simply because of her sex. Such a tactic is bound to fail because by reifying such power, the female candidate merely justifies the perceived and false weakness. In other words, those who live by the Penn, die by the Penn.)
Sure, Obama said, "I have not ruled out military force as an option," but that's standard shit. Clinton took it to the limit: she said that if a nation that's not the United States has a nuclear missile launched at it by Iran - a possibility about as likely as a captured terrorist knowing where the suitcase nuke is that's gonna go off in five minutes and needs his knees shot out to give up the info - then she is ready not just to use targeted nukes against Tehran, but to go all in and to kill millions and millions of innocent people, many of whom don't even support the Iranian government.
The Rude Pundit's not sure, but he doesn't know that he's ever heard of such an extreme policy in support of an ally from a legitimate Democrat running for the Presidency. "Totally obliterate"? It's like the threat of a particularly demented child to an anthill if one of the little fuckers bites her.
Oh, and by the way, you stomp an anthill out of existence, chances are your foot's getting swarmed.
So there you go, Clinton supporters. Your candidate has told you what she believes about military force. She is willing to make the United States a target for nuclear retaliation and massive terrorist acts should Israel be attacked. Now that's a fuckin' way to tell people to take their hope and shove it up their asses.
Happy fuckin' Earth Day.

Again, we see a disparity in the exit polling and posted results. Historically, exit polls have been a check against fraud.

Good morning.
Okay, Pennsylvania is over. I swear, I can't sit through another night watching Tim Russert and Chris Matthews. Even with the sound down, it's painful. Russert can't complete a sentence without saying "Rev. Wright."
Hillary Clinton still can't win so nothing has changed. Well, except that the funder of the vast right wing conspiracy, Richard Scaife, is her new best friend. Think about that one. Think what he put her through in the 90s (and, yes, Scaife was behind almost all of "it.") Her strategy is to destroy Obama so she and Scaife's people have that in common.
One other thing: Obama picked up a new supedelegate, Brad Henry, the Governor of Okalahoma

This is Civil War in the Democrat Party !
Of course the smart thing to do would be to join forces and then face McCain.
But who gets to be on top?
Obama has The Numbers..
But is he electable?
Hillary has The Machine..
But what about her Negatives?
If The Civil War splits the Democrat Voters McCain Wins!
How dare the networks have Repubs or
repub leaning pundits breaking down the Dem Race.
They don't even understand how we think!!!
They are trying to impose their standards on us.
President McCain would be a Good Thing !
Checks and Balances!
Slow things down a bit.
Keep a strong National Defense!
Keep taxes low.
Stop Iran's Nuclear Weapons program!
This will all work out for the best!
this nothing has changed
and we are where we were 6 weeks ago is what is really frustrating to me...I was hoping it was the beginning of the end and we could all breath. At least Gravitas won the bet at a 10% spread so he is queen of the blog for a day!

Graham, Burr, McCain Unveil Legislation to Assist Servicemembers, Veterans, Guardsmen and Reservists with Increased Education Benefits
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Richard Burr (R-NC), and John McCain (R-AZ) today unveiled the Enhancement of Recruitment, Retention, and Readjustment through Education Act.
The Graham-Burr-McCain bill enhances the existing Montgomery G.I. Bill by improving education benefits for servicemembers, veterans, and members of the Guard and Reserve. The legislation will help more military personnel attend college debt-free, and allow them to transfer their education benefits to their spouse or children. It also bolsters recruitment and retention efforts, encouraging servicemembers to continue their military careers.
“It is time we give back to those who have served and continue to serve our nation so valiantly,” said Graham. “I’m proud to be part of this effort to recognize and reward the sacrifices service members and their families are making on behalf of a grateful nation. Our legislation increases the monthly benefit for active duty and reserve personnel and greatly expands the education benefits available to service members. For the first time we ensure that all servicemembers will be permitted to transfer their education benefits to their spouses and children, a much needed and long overdue improvement.”

Hey did you hear-Hillary WON- again!
I hope that Obama can recover from the shock and strain of it all-he looks so droopy and tired lately-and there is still so much exhausting hard work for him to do.
:)
vod?
Does the vod work well for everyone else? It downloads for me better than it used to, but Marc freezes while Sam talks. I cannot figure out why the two should work together that way. It's really weird.
