"Hello to our friends and fans in domestic surveillance."

Your mind has been totally controled.

I think the whole Clinton thing is a right wing conspiracy. The Clintons were always too far right. The "we hate the Clinton's" has just been an act so they can rotate between right leaning Clinton presidencies and right wing wacko presidencies for decades. Our government is almost completely owned by big corporations. They just let us have little victories every once in awhile to make us think we have some say in our government.

Real vs False victories

If against all odds Obama becomes president we may have a real victory. The people in control never expected him to get this close. If he loses to Hillary or John McCain the corporates win again. Especially if McCain wins because I think they'll kill him off quick and put who they really want in his place. At his age nobody will question a heart attack or stroke. Don't get me wrong, I'll vote for Hillary if she gets the nomination. I'll lick up the scraps thrown from the rich mans table if that's all I can get.

It probably is the journey Mel...

I move at warp speed at work...

Based on only reading me, could you know that about me?

I guess with effort a person could be conscious of now and moving very fast at the same time...People always either say directly to me to slow down..or infer that I should slow down...

Do you think that's a fair or relevant or necessary request to make of person?

Absolutely not. I'm a warp speed type of guy myself. Some people just live at a higher speed. Especially at work. I used to get shit on at the little jobs I have had because I could do them with my eyes closed and so was always asked to slow down by my co-workers. So I feel your pain.

What I liked about those little jobs is that my consciousness didn't have to be there in order for me to do a good job and I was always able to write or meditate or compose or daydream while I was pissing my co-workers off.

Here but I'm gone.

The lesson of Randi's failure

If you look at what happened to Rhodes-and I think that she was probably forced out-there is a lesson in it for this election.

On Hillary's side you see her supporters-they all seem to be a pretty sober bunch to me-no nonsense-they just want the job done well and dont need a lot of frills or fancy speeches.

On the Obama side you have people who are drunk on the idea of power, they are carried away with lofty sounding concepts and ideas-whether they are rooted in reality or not. Its all emotion and excitement and anger and a sort of narcissistic egotistical sense of self importance.

And look how it turned out. Crash and burn for Rhodes.

You can expect the same result for Obama in the general election. The addiction that Obama's people have to his campaign is like any addiction. In the end it only leads to failure.

I hope Rhodes gets some help-she did this to herself.

Yeah...

-or meditate-

That should be a requirement in addition to meal time & siesta...

My first corporate job contained a woman top seller who was given a 30 minute time period and a dark empty room to meditate in each day (and a clothing allowence)...I wanted to be her..except I can't pretend to sell...I can't sell...I can't pretend...

I always wanted to be her...Dr. Ellie S....

Her failure, wolf?

What are your failures, do you think?

I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours...

That's not how to spell allowance..

I know that now.. :)

My son's War

My son is in Sadr City. He is going thru shit I wish he never had to go thru. Five from his platoon have been killed in the last couple weeks. He joined the Army because he didn't have a good job. His best friend since childhood was an army recruiter and talked him into joining up as an infantry soldier for the $20,000 bonus. I was a soldier for thirteen years before getting a medical discharge three years ago. I didn't want him to join. I don't think he thought he would end up in combat. I knew as soon as he told me he joined as an infantry soldier. He says it sucks and things are getting really bad over there. Two of his friends were hit by morter fire. They were rushed out by a medevac vehicle. He had to clean up all the blood before going to the hospital to see how they were. He was told they died before they even got there. It sucks Dad.
After worrying about my sons safety I think about how this is fucking him up. Then I think about the 4000+ Americans and the hundreds of thousands of Iraqi human being killed. The millions of people fucked up by all this. It sucks. I hear George Bush sleeps like a baby. I wonder what he thinks about?

Tell Senators Reid and Leahy to Stop Confirming Controversial Judges.

Today on the Senate Floor, Republicans are once again ratcheting up pressure to rubberstamp the president's judicial nominations. Propaganda is flying fast and furious, often at the expense of the facts.

The truth is that President Bush is relentlessly moving forward with his plan to pack the federal courts with judges who will advance the ultraconservative agenda. The courts of appeal have already dealt numerous blows to organized labor, environmental protection, women's rights, and civil rights, as well as other progressive interests. It is time for the United States Senate to stand up to the President by ending consideration of controversial judicial nominees to the federal appeals courts.

ASK YOUR SENATOR to tell Senator Reid and Senator Leahy to stop the confirmation of controversial judicial nominees today.

Sam didn't sound too happy at the end of the show today, he even seemed to hint that he may not stick around. I'm not surprised. He's been with the network through thick and thin, from the very beginning. They bumped his morning show without giving it a chance to put on that dick head who isn't even a progressive in his time slot. He also has a big, loyal fan-base. He was the FIRST and ONLY host to even recognize the liberal blog-os-phere's influence, inviting prominant liberal bloggers onto his show before there even was a Huffington-post!

The fact that the suits balked at giving him Randi's slot is just plain disrespectful, and stupid. Putting Celebrities with little or no radio experience worked out great with Jerry Springer right? With Janeane Garofalo right? (Yes, I love her too, but good at radio she was not) I wouldn't be surprised if he quit Air America too.

I don't know how anyone sleeps at night who has a family member or other loved one in harms way anywhere in the world. I don't know how anyone in our country who does recognize what is going on doesn't have trouble falling asleep at night...or having their thoughts wander randomly during the day to what is going on with our world and our part in all of it.
Every person serving out country in any form in any location is a hero and those sent to Iraq, esp those sent on tour after tour after tour are the ones that require the most help NOW - there or home - PTSD or even before it gets to that point - we owe them the best help on every level that we can provide. And the fact that we cannot get the bill passed to provide them the help they need is just sickening. But, also - I worry about the help they need right now while they are there. And I do not know enough about what is available within the existing system there for those serving now. But I do know that the sooner help is provided the better they will be able to deal with all they witness, experience and feel.
And yes, I do beleive we DO owe it to them...all of them.
Dave - I will keep you, your son and his platoon (?) in my thoughts.

Just Curious

No I don't think he did. I think he saw his chances of getting sent over there as low. He could go to Germany, Korea or Japan or someplace like that. He joined before most people started speaking out about the war, it wasn't on the news much and people expected it to be over soon. Young people think they're invincable anyway. He needed money.

They still letus vote because there's so much MONEY in it!

I am so sick of this EARLY PRIMARY.

It has turned out to be nothing more than open season on our progressive pocketbooks.

So Obama has collected more and more of the little citizens' money in campaign contributions. And does that mean he will represent the little citizen in the long run and give up his corporatist positions and corporate connections? I still have to wonder!

Failure? No. Not even close.

Sorry Wolf, you have this all wrong. Randi failed at nothing. She educated, entertained, and emboldened a great many of us. She had a plan, we have a plan. Also, Randi did not crash and burn. She chose a different path, and many will follow. Nova M is suddenly stronger.
Good luck Wolf. Being a second rate appologist for a failed ideology will probably server you well for a while, but not for as long as you'd like.

I won't be listening to Beltzer next week, nothing against him, but I thought Sammy should have had that week. And he should have a 5 day a week show again. Mark Green and the rest of mgt....suck.. "Write to pcollin@airamerica.com and let them know you want Sam back full time. We wish Randi all the best in the future."

A different way to look at a lesson from Randi

Granted, not everyone has the finanical capability to do what Randi did, and that does make a difference. But there is a postive lesson to take away as well.
Beleive in yourself and your value as a human being and what you provide as a product (Don't overvalue yourself, but don't undervalue yourself either). Stand up for what you beleive in and for what you beleive to be right. Be prepared to walk away if you cannot stay true to yourself and your core principles- IF you can...and as I said, not everyone can due to finances I understand that...but this can apply to all areas of life not just work...It applies to life as a whole.

And Yes, I have been walked away from work situations because I could no longer stay true to my core principles.

What kool-aid?

the red Kool-aid or the blue Kool-aid?

They only let us vote because it's Big Business and means...

lots of PROFITS.

Hillary's insistence on hanging on and on and on is good for the Big Business of the Campaign Season, prolonging the fundraising in an already prolonged Early Primary situation.

What is so foolhardy about Hillary's actions is that she is sucking the media away from coverage of local races and literally gambling at completely destroying any chance of motivating Dems to vote a STRAIGHT DEM TICKET so that we can at least get the Congressional/Senate seats we need. [I can picture a cartoon of Hillary with scissors cutting off the coattails on a Donkey's fancy suit....]

I appreciate how those who desire to motivate voters are making an effort to portray this primary as sane and proceeding acceptably. But I don't see it. I only see Hillary creating a schism in the party so destructive that it won't be healed by NOVEMBER of this year! (I want to be wrong.)

PTSD

They don't get shit over there. Except "suck it up and drive on soldier". My son has had depression for years. They just look the other way. I tried to get him out of there using the help of Russ Feingold. The final decision was left up to his company commander. Guess what? DENIED.
My son gets sent out on patrol sometimes 16 hours a day. They don't even get to go back to their post. They sleep werever the are, if they can. He only goes back a few days a month to sleep in a bed. They don't have enough troops to do anything meaningful over there. They're just there for no real reason. Because politicians and americans are willing to just let them stay over there forever. Waiting for there chance to get hit by bullet or morter or whatever.

After a recent disagreement over her comments about Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY), host Randi Rhodes resigned from Air America. According to an e-mail received by Hot Air, Rhodes is about to sign a deal to broadcast on Clear Channel:

She’s going to be signing a deal with Nova M Radio in the next few hours for about the same money Air America was paying her. She will broadcast Monday afternoon on all Clear Channel affiliates and several other stations. I’m pretty much done with Air America. I bought an XM Radio subscription for the sole purpose of being able to listen to AA since there isn’t any longer an AA affiliate in Atlanta.

I loved Marc Maron, and they gave him the boot. I loved Rachael Maddow’s old morning show, which was dropped and replaced with Jerry Springer - a huge mistake. Then they took off Jerry and put Sam Seder on in the same time slot with this own fantastic show… only to drop Seder in favor of the UNLISTENABLE Lionel. Seder got shoved into one weekly show on Sundays and filling in for hosts when they are out; and to be sure, he’ll get kicked again when the AA execs find another mediocre talent like Lionel to replace the BRILLIANT Sam Seder. Now maybe Sam has another chance, but without Randi there isn’t really anything left for me at AA.

Some people accuse Randi of being “poorly informed” yet that is laughable; she’s more knowledgeable than practically any other radio host, on either side of the political divide. Sure, she’s bombastic and talks over some of her callers, but she is a TREASURE for the progressive movement and I hope that her departure from AA opens the doors for her in many other places. If she opens the door for progressive talk on some of these Clear Channel stations then good for her. She will be an asset to any network that hires her.

So, goodbye AA. Have fun with your new host, whoever it may be. Condolences to Sam Seder - who is so talented and deserves his own, daily show - because I just know that AA will screw him over again the first chance they get.

Dems fault Bush on executive privilege
Laurie Kellman, Associated Press - April 10, 2007

President Bush’s refusal to let two confidants provide information to Congress about fired federal prosecutors represents the most expansive view of executive privilege since Watergate, the House Judiciary Committee told a federal judge Thursday.

Lawyers for the Democratic-led panel argued in court documents that Bush’s chief of staff, Josh Bolten, and former White House counsel Harriet Miers are not protected from subpoenas last year that sought information about the dismissals.

The legal filing came in lawsuit that pits the legislative branch against the executive in a fight over a president’s powers.

The committee is seeking the testimony as it tries to make a case that the White House directed the firing of nine U.S. attorneys because they were not supportive enough of Republicans’ political agenda.

The White House says such information is private and covered by executive privilege, the doctrine intended to protect the confidentiality of presidential communications.

House lawyers told U.S. District Judge John D. Bates that subpoenaed White House officials cannot simply skip hearings as Miers did during the committee’s investigation. Further, they said, any documents or testimony believed to be covered by the privilege must be itemized for Congress’ assessment.

He doesn't think at all. There is no conscience in that mind. On occasion he does feel compassion. Unfortunately, it's not when he hears the plight of your son and his fellow soldiers. As Mark Crispin Miller said of Bush, " he doesn't do empathy." Therefore, when he hears about the calamity he has caused, he is the only one deserving of compassion.

Bush's Executive Privilege Claims Most Expansive Since Watergate, House Committee Says

LAURIE KELLMAN
AP News

Apr 10, 2008 16:53 EST

President Bush's refusal to let two confidants provide information to Congress about fired federal prosecutors represents the most expansive view of executive privilege since Watergate, the House Judiciary Committee told a federal judge Thursday.

Lawyers for the Democratic-led panel argued in court documents that Bush's chief of staff, Josh Bolten, and former White House counsel Harriet Miers are not protected from subpoenas last year that sought information about the dismissals.

The legal filing came in lawsuit that pits the legislative branch against the executive in a fight over a president's powers.

The committee is seeking the testimony as it tries to make a case that the White House directed the firing of nine U.S. attorneys because they were not supportive enough of Republicans' political agenda.

The White House says such information is private and covered by executive privilege, the doctrine intended to protect the confidentiality of presidential communications.

House lawyers told U.S. District Judge John D. Bates that subpoenaed White House officials cannot simply skip hearings as Miers did during the committee's investigation. Further, they said, any documents or testimony believed to be covered by the privilege must be itemized for Congress' assessment.

Executive privilege is not a right spelled out in the Constitution, so the legal issues are murky and disputes are normally resolved politically. The suit is risky for both sides. Courts have not been kind to the presidency in fights over subpoenas; Congress could have its power to demand information curtailed permanently.

The White House has said Bush was not personally involved in deciding which U.S. prosecutors to fire and that any White House communications on the matter are off-limits under the privilege. Presidential counsel Fred Fielding declared Miers and Bolten immune from prosecution because their refusal to comply with the subpoenas was done at the White House's direction under the privilege.

He also did not provide a privilege log, arguing that revealing the information sought would compromise the president's access to candid advice.

The result, the committee wrote, is White House defiance of congressional oversight unseen since the presidential intransigence that led to Richard Nixon's resignation.

"Not since the days of Watergate have the Congress and the federal courts been confronted with such an expansive view of executive privilege as the one asserted by the current presidential administration and the individual defendants in this case," according to the House's filing.

I remember a lil' ditty

Come you masters of war
You that build all the guns
You that build the death planes
You that build the big bombs
You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks

You that never done nothin'
But build to destroy
You play with my world
Like it's your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
When the fast bullets fly

Like Judas of old
You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
That runs down my drain

You fasten the triggers
For the others to fire
Then you set back and watch
When the death count gets higher
You hide in your mansion
As young people's blood
Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the mud

You've thrown the worst fear
That can ever be hurled
Fear to bring children
Into the world
For threatening my baby
Unborn and unnamed
You ain't worth the blood
That runs in your veins

How much do I know
To talk out of turn
You might say that I'm young
You might say I'm unlearned
But there's one thing I know
Though I'm younger than you
Even Jesus would never
Forgive what you do

Let me ask you one question
Is your money that good
Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul

And I hope that you die
And your death'll come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand o'er your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead

U.N. Official Calls for Study Of Neocons' Role in 9/11
By ELI LAKE
Staff Reporter of the Sun
April 10, 2008

WASHINGTON — A new U.N. Human Rights Council official assigned to monitor Israel is calling for an official commission to study the role neoconservatives may have played in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

On March 26, Richard Falk, Milbank professor of international law emeritus at Princeton University, was named by unanimous vote to a newly created position to report on human rights in the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian Arabs. While Mr. Falk's specialty is human rights and international law, since the attacks in 2001, he has devoted some of his time to challenging what he calls the "9-11 official version."

On March 24 in an interview with a radio host and former University of Wisconsin instructor, Kevin Barrett, Mr. Falk said, "It is possibly true that especially the neoconservatives thought there was a situation in the country and in the world where something had to happen to wake up the American people. Whether they are innocent about the contention that they made that something happen or not, I don't think we can answer definitively at this point. All we can say is there is a lot of grounds for suspicion, there should be an official investigation of the sort the 9/11 commission did not engage in and that the failure to do these things is cheating the American people and in some sense the people of the world of a greater confidence in what really happened than they presently possess."

They've stabbed Rabbi Sammy in the back again.

I was watching when Sam went into the boss's office cursing.

I missed the last half hour. What did Sam say about all this?

Sent some emails to AAR before I left for work. I was already in a fighting mood because I'd had it out with at&t earlier about my DSL so I was loaded for bear.

I think our Rabbi was saying goodbye, ToniD

Sammy said that the Sunday show would be the best of. Then! He said the following Sunday would be a book show.

On 3/13/08 I received a letter from Air America asking that I immediately cease archiving of The Thom Hartmann Show and The Randi Rhodes Show, rescinding my earlier permission to do so. Subsequently, they asked me to restore the archives here for the time being. This is only temporary, however. At some point I will be provided with a coupon code that you will be able to use to subscribe to the paid archives hosted by Air America if you choose to do that, and these archives will again be taken off the air.

This is an opportunity, however, to do what this site was created for; Find and showcase Liberal/Progressive radio talent who are not widely known and who SHOULD BE.

To that end, I am soliciting suggestions for show streams that ought to be archived here.

A fairly innocuous comment, I thought...But a regular blogger named Wanda insistent that Slint should be named most influential musician...much to the surprise of those of use who'd never heard of them. After a few days of blog discussion, there wasn't a sheet that didn't mention the debate for weeks. Clinton Pay Comes to $30 Per Lie

By: Andrew Cline

Bill and Hillary Clinton's tax returns for the last seven years reveal that since leaving the White House the couple has earned nearly $30 per lie.

"If you break their income down, you see that on average they earned $42,661 a day, or $1,777 an hour, which comes to $29.61 a minute," said political analyst Pim Peeny. "And, this being the Clintons, that amounts to $29.61 per lie told."

The Clinton campaign immediately disputed Peeny's claim.

"That's entirely preposterous," Clinton spokesman Mo Lyes said. "Sen. Clinton would respond to dispute the ridiculous charge, except she's busy right now single-handedly saving a house full of orphans from a pack of fire-breathing alligators."

Former President Bill Clinton reacted calmly to news of Peeny's calculation, merely cursing out 16 junior staffers, four reporters, and a dog, and threatening to have Peeny "taken care of" after the general election. He later apologized, saying, "I apologize for acting inappropriately earlier today. I was exhausted from staying up all night figuring out how many Americans would die every year because they were left without health insurance under Barack Obama's irresponsible health care plan."

Peeny's figures were corroborated by the New York Times, which conducted its own review and found that the Clintons actually lied closer to twice a minute if sales of their books are included in the calculation.

Hillary Clinton biographer and former Washington Post reporter Carl Bernstein added that he thinks even the Obama figure is low.

"None of these figures takes into account President Clinton's passes at random women or the massive increase in untruthfulness when either Clinton drinks even a slight amount of alcohol. The figure is probably closer to four lies a minute."

Sen. Clinton could not be reached for comment, a spokesman said, because she was in Paris relighting the Olympic torch at the request of the French and Chinese governments, the United Nations, and a little girl in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, who desperately wants to watch women's pole vaulting this summer and knew that Senator Clinton was the only person who could save the Olympic Games.

Bill Clinton outright lied today about Hillary's death-defying

Bill Clinton outright lied today about Hillary's death-defying Bosnia trip

americablog

And it's the same outright lie the Clinton campaign has been repeating over and over, which means it's a talking point lie. Here is what Bill Clinton claimed today:

"And, you know. I got tickled the other day. A lot of the way this whole campaign has been covered has amused me. But there was a lot of fulminating because Hillary, one time late at night when she was exhausted, misstated and immediately apologized for it, what happened to her in Bosnia in 1995. Did y'all see all that? Oh, they blew it up."

That's a lie.

Hillary actually "misspoke" four times over four months. Then the campaign had their surrogates and press staff fan out in order to defend Hillary's lie as the truth. Now repeated members of the Clinton campaign have claimed that Hillary simply misspoke "once." It's a flat-out lie.

They know it's a lie. But they seem to think that you're so stupid, you won't notice. Amazing. And what is he talking about "late at night"? Late at night? Uh, when was Hillary talking about Bosnia "late at night?"

I mean, now we're not just lying, but getting into some real detailed lies. (Not to mention, so Bill is admitting that Hillary isn't really on her game "late at night." Does 3am count as "late at night"?)

Let's recap:

DECEMBER 29: Clinton That When She Went To Bosnia, "We Landed In One Of Those Corkscrew Landings And Ran Out Because They Said There Might Be Sniper Fire." Clinton, in Dubuque, Iowa on December 29, 2007, said "I was so honored to be able to travel around the world representing our country. You know, going to places that often times were, you know, not necessarily a place that a president could go. We used to say in the White House that if a place was too dangerous, too small or too poor, send the first lady. So, I had the time of my life. I was the first, you know, high- profile American to go into Bosnia after the peace accords were signed because we wanted to show that the United States was 100 percent behind the agreement. We wanted to make it clear to the Bosnians of all backgrounds. Plus we wanted to thank our American military and our allies for a great job. So, we landed in one of those corkscrew landings and ran out because they said there might be sniper fire. I don't remember anybody offering me tea on the tarmac. We got there and went to the base where our soldiers were and I went out to a lot of the forward operating bases to thank our young men and women in uniform and to thank the Europeans, including the Russians who were part of that effort." [CNN, 1/1/08]

FEBRUARY 29: Clinton Said That The Welcoming Ceremony In Bosnia "Had To Be Moved Inside Because Of Sniper Fire." "At the rally, she belittled the idea that Mr. Obama's 2002 speech 'at an antiwar rally' prepared him to serve as commander in chief. She said he was 'missing in action' on the recent Senate vote on Iran and as chairman of a subcommittee responsible for NATO policy in Afghanistan. Contrasting that with her own experience, she evoked foreign battlefields, recalling a trip to Bosnia as first lady, when the welcoming ceremony 'had to be moved inside because of sniper fire.' She said she had traveled to more than 80 countries and was 'on the front lines' as the United States made peace in Bosnia and Northern Ireland and helped save refugees from ethnic cleansing in Kosovo." [NYT, 3/1/08]

MARCH 17: Clinton, Speaking About Her Trip To Bosnia, Said "I Remember Landing Under Sniper Fire. There Was Supposed To Be Some Kind Of A Greeting Ceremony At The Airport, But Instead We Just Ran With Our Heads Down To Get Into Vehicles To Get To Our Base." Clinton: "Good morning. I want to thank Secretary West for his years of service, not only as Secretary of the Army, but also to the Veteran's Administration, to our men and women in uniform, to our country. I certainly do remember that trip to Bosnia, and as Togo said, there was a saying around the White House that if a place was too small, too poor, or too dangerous, the president couldn't go, so send the First Lady. That's where we went. I remember landing under sniper fire. There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base. But it was a moment of great pride for me to visit our troops, not only in our main base as Tuzla, but also at two outposts where they were serving in so many capacities to deactivate and remove landmines, to hunt and seek out those who had not complied with the Dayton Accords and put down their arms, and to build relationships with the people that might lead to a peace for them and their children." [Clinton speech (remarks as delivered), 3/17/08]

MARCH 17: Clinton That They Came In "In An Evasive Maneuver… There Was No Greeting Ceremony, And We Basically Were Told To Run To Our Cars. Now, That Is What Happened." "Just after the speech, Clinton reaffirmed the account of running from the plane to the cars when she was asked about it during a news conference. She said was moved into the cockpit of the C-17 cargo plane as they were flying into Tuzla Air Base. 'Everyone else was told to sit on their bulletproof vests,' Clinton said. 'And we came in, in an evasive maneuver. ... There was no greeting ceremony, and we basically were told to run to our cars. Now, that is what happened.'" [AP, 3/25/08]

DREAMS FROM MY FATHER, LAME EXCUSES FROM MY GRANDFATHER

Since a Chinese graduate student at Columbia University, Minghui Yu, was killed last Friday when black youths violently set upon him, sending him running into traffic to escape, I think B. Hussein Obama ought to start referring to the mind-set of the "typical Asian person."

As of Wednesday, police had no motive for the attack, and witnesses said they heard no demand for money or anything else. The Associated Press reports that the assailant simply said to his friend, "Watch what I do to this guy" before punching Yu.

Meanwhile, let's revisit the story about Obama's grandmother being guilty of thinking like a "typical white person." As recounted in Obama's autobiography, the only evidence that his grandmother feared black men comes from Obama's good-for-nothing, chronically unemployed white grandfather, who accuses Grandma of racism as his third excuse not to get dressed and drive her to work.

His grandmother wanted a ride to work at 6:30 in the morning because, the day before, she had been aggressively solicited by a homeless man at the bus stop. On her account, the panhandler "was very aggressive, Barry. Very aggressive. I gave him a dollar and he kept asking. If the bus hadn't come, I think he might have hit me over the head."

Even Obama's shiftless grandfather didn't play the race card until pretty far into the argument over whether he would drive Grandma to work. First, the good-for-nothing grandfather told Obama that Grandma was just trying to guilt him into driving her, saying, "(S)he just wants me to feel bad."

Next, he complained about his non-work routine being disrupted, saying: "She's been catching the bus ever since she started at the bank. ... And now, just because she gets pestered a little, she wants to change everything!"

Only after Obama had offered to drive his grandmother to work himself and it was becoming increasingly clear what a selfish lout the grandfather was, did Grandpa produce his trump card. The reason he wouldn't get his lazy butt dressed and drive Grandma to work was ... she was a racist!

As Obama recounts it, on Grandpa's third try at an excuse, he told Obama: "You know why she's so scared this time? I'll tell you why. Before you came in, she told me the fella was black. That's the real reason she's bothered. And I just don't think that's right." So I guess I'll be heading back to the sack now!

That makes sense. It certainly never bothers me when crazy white people harass and threaten me.

This is Obama's own account of what happened, which -- as anyone can see -- consisted of his slacker grandfather making a series of excuses to avoid having to drive the sole bread-earner in the family to work.

But Obama says, "The words were like a fist in my stomach, and I wobbled to regain my composure." (It was as if he had been punched by an aggressive panhandler at a bus stop!) And not because his grandfather's sorry excuse reminded him that he came from a long line of callow, worthless men, both black and white.

No, Obama swallowed his grandfather's pathetic excuse hook, line and sinker, leading Obama to a reverie about his grandparents: "I knew that men who might easily have been my brothers could still inspire their rawest fears." That's true -- assuming his brothers and sisters were menacing people at bus stops.

How deranged would you have to be to cite this incident as evidence that your grandmother thought like a "typical white person" -- as opposed to your grandfather being worthless and lazy? For those keeping score, Obama is aghast at his grandmother's alleged racism, but had no problem with Jeremiah Wright's manifest racism.

If Obama is sent reeling by the mere words of an elderly white woman, how is he going to negotiate with a guy like Mahmoud Ahmadinejad? What if Ahmadinejad calls him "booger-face"? Will he run crying from the table?

Your grandmother wasn't a racist, Barack. Your grandpa was just a loser. Can we wrap up our national conversation about race now? I think we'd like to move onto questions about your stupid plan to hold talks with Iran.

Radio and Political Activism

In the beginning of AA there was a sense that they were there to make things better in our country. Not only to tell the truth about what was happening in the country but to encourage people to get involved politically. Right out of the gate Marc Maron & Mark Riley were on the air right after Reagan died and they refused to sugar coat the effect Reagan had on this country. Controversial but truthful. Then Randi took on Ralph Nader on air and told the truth to his face. She continued to educate and promoted progressive candidates and relentlessly pushed the importance of elections. And, then Sam. He faithfully promoted activism and progressive candidates like his "fighting dem" series with Markos from dailykos. He was the first to take on Joe Lieberman and promote Ned Lamont. He bullied us into contacting our representatives and congressman. This type of radio is there to bring about change. To make a difference. And, it is sad and discouraging that more liberals don't step up to the plate financially to make sure this type of radio continues. I'll be tuning in Monday to hear Randi. And, I will follow Sam and Marc to wherever. Their voices must not be silenced.

How can NovaM pay Randi what AAR was paying her? If so, it sounds like NovaM will soon go belly up with only 4 stations and a few others carrying the show. Mike Malloy is carried by both satellite Networks and 14 or 15 terrestrial stations. Which is more than 4, I think. Randi said last night on Larry King that she will still be carried on all of the clear channel stations that carried her before, which is most of them. So that's how, they will be able to afford her contract.

With respect to the Drobneys, you don't know what you're talking about, Lumstruck. Listen to Malloy's description of AAR in the early days. Link:

Now they bring in "Big Name Guest Hosts"!

Despite all the work Sam has put in, AAR still thinks they are doing Sam a favor by giving him the Airtime that they do.

Sam Progressive PM on WWRL?

I was looking around at local station sites to see how they are handle Randi's switch to NovaM and noticed that on WWRL for today's schedule they list Sam Seder Progressive PM in the 3 to 6 slot. Is Sam going local on us?

Frontier files for bankruptcy protection

Oh..The Economy is Just Rolling Along, Aye Bushtard ?
What's this the 4 or 5th Airline to go under in the last 2 weeks ?

By CATHERINE TSAI, AP Business Writer

DENVER - Frontier Airlines sought bankruptcy protection Friday, the fourth carrier to do so in the past several weeks as exorbitant fuel prices eat into earnings and a weak U.S. economy keeps more people grounded.

Frontier says it will continue operations as it reorganizes.

The low-fare carrier said it was forced into bankruptcy after its principal credit card processor said it would begin withholding a greater share of proceeds from ticket sales.

The Chapter 11 filing in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New York prevents the credit card processor from increasing its "holdback," Frontier CEO Sean Menke said.

that would be great news for this WWRL listener. I have a fear that Rennie Bishop would see Randi's leaving as another opportunity to put on an infomercial in her former spot.

Let's see...Malloy works for

Let's see...Malloy works for the Drobney's...hmmm
Anyway, via Piquant they lost tons of money, threw tons money away at AAR, didn't fix the systemic problems there and went bankrupt. BTW, I tried to advertise on AAR during the Piquant era and despite my best efforts at talking to someone, noone ever "got back to me".
Althou Malloy is on XM, I personally would rather get the whole Hartman program and the whole Maddow show and cut his time or time-shift him. His show doesn't seem to have any national advertising that I heard.
Anyway, good luck to NovaM and to Randi, I was just musing about potential for failure. Three liberal networks and few large or even middle sized stations that aren't already Republican steamrollers to pick them up...

too funny to believe - PAPA JOHN

In politics, there's only one thing worse than being accused of schtupping a lobbyist: being accused of leaking the story of said schtupping to The New York Times. It was the latter accusation that John Weaver faced in February, after the Times published its front-page article on the "close bond" between John McCain and Vicki Iseman. And the circumstantial evidence against Weaver did seem rather damning. First, there was motive: Weaver was McCain's top strategist for nearly a decade, until he quit last year after his rival, Rick Davis, was appointed campaign manager. Second, there were fingerprints: Weaver had given the Times one of its only on-the-record quotes--telling the paper about a 1999 meeting with Iseman in which he warned her to stay away from McCain. And so, on the morning of the Times story, some McCain backers allied with Davis fingered Weaver as the Judas who had betrayed McCain, and their accusation soon echoed across blogs and cable news. - New Republic

This smells just like Liberman's website crash accusation. Combine this strategy and the self described youthful indiscretions and you have a bragging misogynistic tactic. How messed up is that?

Opposition politicians have seized control of both chambers of Mexico's Congress to protests against a controversial energy bill proposed by Felipe Calderon, the president.

Members of the Democratic Revolution Party stormed the podiums, forcing a recess in both the Senate and lower house on Thursday.

Some of the protesters put on hard hats to represent oil workers and shouted: "The country is not for sale!"

Supporters of Lopez Obrador have taken over Mexico's congressional chambers a number of times since he was declared the loser to Calderon.

AAR press release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Beginning Monday April 14, Air American Radio will present a month-long series of celebrities who guest host all week during the 3-6 PM ET period.

So... no Sam for at least a month. Canceled my premium and signed up with NovaM. It was great to hear marc last night on malloy.

Rachel is getting tiresome. I don't think AAR has anything I need anymore.

- Applemask

EDIT:

http://www.novamradio.com

Seems like they would rather have A month of celebrity to chill randi's ratings, instead of treating sam right. Of coarse, they also generate SO MUCH publicity that even a month of celebs ain't going to phase her.

Former host of the Sam Seder Show?

from the WWRL site

http://www.wwrl1600.com/bio.asp?id=35

Sam Seder (born November 28, 1966) is a comedian, writer, actor, film director, television producer-director, and Air America Radio host. Seder was born in New York City, New York and raised in Worcester, Massachusetts. His works include who’s the Caboose (1997) as well as the television shows Beat Cops (2001) and Pilot Season (2004). Seder made guest appearances on Spin City (1997), Sex and the City (2000) and America Undercover (2005). On September 1, 2004, Sam Seder was briefly detained by the Secret Service during his live, on-site coverage of the Republican National Convention at Madison Square Garden. Shortly after Zell Miller gave his speech, Seder began searching (with a sign in hand) on the convention floor for a willing homosexual Republican to interview live on radio. It was not long before he was physically removed from the floor and after brief questioning, was asked (or according to some, "strongly encouraged") to leave the convention. Former host of the Sam Seder show (AAR) 9am to noon Sam now shares his insightfulness daily 3 - 6 pm

a silly question: who's filling in for randi today? is Sam?

Sam, enjoy some r&r with your family, and forget it all including the blog as well for one day

yesterday going-ons

Yesterday, a truly historic day in the life of sederistas everywhere (but mostly on the sammy blog) . Riveting.... couldn’t take my eyes off the screen, the cam, the blog, great reading, everybody had some very good comments

I didn’t comment much because the blog was going bezerk already, and besides I had already said my bit, early in the am, responding to sam’s tread which started with oy
Oy indeed, I commented briefly, ss is too good for aar - they don’t deserve him and that pretty much took care of it, what ensued through the day just confirmed my feelings.
Heartbroken at the end of it all, with Maron the cherry on top sothing some of the pain, however, I miss him too, I wonder whether we’ll have the seder maron on Tuesday from Australia – hard to fathom that we could lose it all, just because of these screwed up AAR managers.

And as for all these offers of money from heartbroken bloggers, of course I would join, but who thinks that seder would accept our “charity”? our love and expressions of sympathy that’s another matter. I don’t think that getting a webcast-only show would be a good think for seder – as a complement to whatever else he may doing, great! But not as his only venue – he’s great and he needs a great, large, big, megaphone, he needs to be heard by large numbers and that can only happen through a regular network, station (clear channel too?)

That would be fucking awesome!

We will have to ask on the show today via im.

all sold out

well it's obvious that seder has sold out. his whore wants more. he'll tell you a million reasons why. but the TRUTH is he sold out.

and to the rest of his "friends". wake the fuck up. you don't have a chance of changing anything. democrats and republicans are two sides of the same fucking coin. and when you couldn't stop them with term limits, or now by putting the people behind war crimes in jail, it's all a ruse.

this country sucked when they commited genocide and stole the land from the indians. this country sucked when they used slavery to make itself strong. and none of these people really lost power or moneys afterwards. but instead reproduced and spawned offspring of these fucked up human beings until there were enough of them to commit war crimes and get away with it.

they got you fools thinking you have a chance of changing things. MEANWHILE THEY STILL ARE DOING EVERYTHING THEY REALLY WANT TO. WAKE THE FUCK UP AND SELL OUT LIKE SEDER DID, YOU WORHTLESS FUCKING PUPPET FOOLS. Until, AND ONLY UNTIL, justice is served to ALL THESE FUCKING WHORES, this country is going down. the problem is that if justice is served, there won't be enough people left in the whole country to man a caffeine dispensing outpost like mcdonalds. so the children of these rat-humans will go into chemical speed withdrawal, and won't be a pleasant place to be, either.

Switch to novam

I gather that novam, although struggling, aims to be a listener supported station. With Rhandi on board I hope this will be the boost they need.
I only wish Sam will join them.

Guess what made it poignant for me at least is that who can’t relate to that, i centainly have been in situations like this – nefferkitti put it bery succintly – where in the workplace (and you’re there because you have to earn a living) you have to make a choice, how much more crap can you take without compromising your core sense of dignity, you may even like the job but you’re treated poorly by the “bosses”, not appreciated, not respected, and you nevertheless continue to slog it through but reach a point where something’s gotta give, and you HAVE TO walk away – I’ve done it, suffered financially for it, regretted it later and later again been happy I had done it – not only jobwise, but lifewise

Thanks Fernando for making the call

It will be interesting to see what WWRL will do. They have shown they have no loyalty to AAR programming by dropping Lionel & Hartmann recently however this article from the NY Daily News

http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/tv/2008/04/10/2008-04-10_randi_...

suggests that WWRL was happy with Randi's show

One affiliate station eagerly awaiting that decision is WWRL (1600 AM) in New York, which has been carrying only Rhodes and Rachel Maddow (6-8 p.m.) in Air America's weekday daytime lineup.

While the station had no comment today, it had felt Rhodes was doing well.

Stop telling sam to go to novaM please Has it occurred to you that he may want to go but he needs to be offered a job by the drobnys or mr manzo or whoever the god of nova-m is
And in the same vein, shouldn’t we also email or contact these nova-M deciders asking them to hire sam, same as we’re doing with this pcollin guy

And by the way, I have been a little ticked off yesterday about all these discussions about the –s, without the s, with the s – hey folks, it’s quite simple you can send it to both, put one of the addresses on the cc and wait and see which one bounces back to your inbox! If none does it means they’re both good – and this collin guy will get both, doubly effective or doubly ignored whatever the result may be

US Ambassador to Iraq Says Embassy Ready Friday April 11 2008 WASHINGTON (AP) - The U.S. ambassador to Iraq says that American diplomats will start moving into the new embassy in Baghdad at the end of May, and should be safer in the more fortified complex inside the so-called Green Zone.

Ryan Crocker told reporters on Friday that some offices and apartments should be ready at the end of the month. That's after months of delays in opening the $600 million embassy project, which has been beset by construction, logistical and security problems.

On NOVA-M

Malloy told it like it is – it needs our support – advertisers are shunning the station as they are wont to do with all truly progressive causes, corporations’ money flows to rigtwing orgs, don’t we know that, so we need to support our own – that’s why Nova-M has a subscriber system, the founding membership which is crucial to the survival of the station. I was the eighth or ninth person to sign up when the thing was launched back in the day and am proud of it. Something else Malloy said which stuck with me – so many people pledging their support when he was fired from aar, saying the same stuff we’re now saying about sam, go on the web and broadcast from there and we’ll support you, but then when the time came to put their money where it counts, into nova-M membership the multitudes scattered, what happened? They’ve now been waiting to reach the 10,000 members goal for years while mike had gotten more than 10,000 support declaration at the start of it all. Words and pledges are cheap, we’ve got to reach into our pocketbooks to support what is important to us progressives. Not accusing anyone here of not being sincere, of course not, just a general consideration

Disturbing about the Randi Rhodes sitch = (

AAP boards are down - server probs - I'm guessing maybe coz all the RR message board folks went there after her AAR show blog disappeared.

The most disturbing thing IMPO, is all the negative, downright nasty remarks floating around on various boards (like Hartmann's) - why does all this creepiness come out when there's some sort of controversy, I wonder? Flies to horseshit?

Randi seems to've landed on her feet alright - she's 1 smart cookie & I think, can take care of herself just fine.

& after listening to some of her phone conversation w/ Marc Maron re: contract dispute, I'm wondering if she might've pushed that envelope on purpose....?

Trying to make some sense of what's going on, Sammy-wise - I sure hope we're not losing him too....? (my guess would be 'not')

What a whirlwind the last week or so has been. I hope Sam got to go home and got some good serious sleep after some serious Myla Daddy lovin'. He has been playing his part doing all the things one does to be a "team player" and we all know he is heartsick right now. Randi was a mentor to him and trusted him with her audience and her show way back when AAR was still in its infancy when she would be out. It helped him become the pro that he is today...and that we saw yesterday everytime the mike was back on.

Enjoy your b-day Lucille- I know its a rough day for all of us, but remember - your b-day is the celebration of the day YOU joined us in this world. That is truely worth celebrating.

Cadres or caddies? Island looks to golf to drive its tourist economyFour decades after Castro's defeat to Che Guevara, up to 10 new courses are planned

The Cuban tourism minister, Manuel Marrero, has said up to 10 courses may be built. The government is worried that the £1bn-a-year tourism industry, a crucial foreign exchange earner, is slumping. High prices and mediocre facilities are blamed for a 4.3% drop in visitor numbers in 2006 and another dip last year. A particular concern is that few Britons, the most common visitor after Canadians, return for a second visit.

Enter golf. The sport has helped the nearby Dominican Republic boost tourist numbers and President Raul Castro, who has succeeded his ailing older brother, hopes it can do the same for the impoverished communist island. "They know they need to get more money into here and they know golf may be able to do that," said one western diplomat

Bill Clinton: Media Acted Like Hillary Was "Just Making Up All This Stuff" On Bosnia
By Eric Kleefeld - April 10, 2008, 11:59PM

During a campaign stop today in Indiana, Bill Clinton defended his wife's reputation on the Bosnia flap, claiming it was all a product of a misstatement at 11 p.m.

"This is a big deal to her," Bill said. "Some of you may have seen that she took a terrible beating in the press for a few days because, she was exhausted at 11 o'clock at night and she started talking about Bosnia and she misstated the circumstances under which she landed in Bosnia. Did you all see all that?"

"And, oh, they acted like she was practically Mata Hari, you know? Just making up all this stuff," he added, then going on to describe just how dangerous a place Bosnia was.

Sleep deprivation doesn't completely explain Hillary's series of comments. But either way, the Clinton camp might still not be too happy having the story pushed back into the headlines.

Forget about the pills. They don't work. OfJoshua had her doctor write me a prescription for Ambien awhile back. She said they're the strongest boner pills on the market, but all they did was knock me out. Worse yet, were the side affects. The pills did strange things to my pigmentation--when I finally awoke, it looked like someone had drawn a mustache on my face with a magic marker. Once, the pigmentation even arranged itself to look like someone had written the word, "limpy" on my forehead. It was embarrassing as hell. - General

House Dems file contempt motion in court

House Judiciary Committee lawyers declared that the White House and Congress are at a “constitutional impasse” in a legal motion filed Thursday in federal court aimed at forcing former White House Counsel Harriet Miers and White House Chief of Staff Joshua Bolten to testify before the panel.

The Judiciary Committee issued subpoenas to Miers and Bolten for testimony and documents in its investigation into the firing of nine U.S. attorneys in 2006.

The House approved a contempt motion against Bolten and Miers after White House Counsel Fred Fielding claimed a broad executive privilege against compliance with the subpoenas.

In the filing in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, the House Judiciary Committee is seeking a “partial summary judgment” against Miers and Bolten.

The lawyers compared the Bush administration's refusal to cooperate with the panel’s probe to President Nixon’s attempts to stonewall inquiries into the Watergate scandal.

"Not since the days of Watergate have the Congress and the federal courts been confronted with such an expansive view of executive privilege as the one asserted by the current presidential administration and the individual defendants in this case," House General Counsel Irvin Nathan and other House lawyers wrote in their lengthy motion.

I guess I shared my birthday with Hugh Hefner and Dennis Quaid,

I heard that on Olbermann this week.

37 years old and starting to feel it.

My wife got me an electric pressure washer, and chocolate.

Plus my parents still know to get me a video game. Hee Hee! Burnout: Paradise is fun to get your driving aggressions out in the virtual world, rather than in real life.

Happy Birthday, Lucille!

bet they keep my name on!!

Terrorists, not so much.

The Terrorist Screening Center (TSC) now will automatically review nearly 500,000 names on its watch list that are frequently matched during airport screenings and other law-enforcement encounters with the general public and remove those names that don't belong to actual suspects.

The Democratic senator from Massachusetts along with several other lawmakers have complained for years that their names were erroneously on the list, causing frequent flyer disruptions at screening stations.

Under new rules called the Terrorist Encounter Review Process (TERP), records of frequently encountered individuals will be reviewed, even if no formal redress requests are filed.

Naw. Though that's what I asked for.

The pressure washer is awesome. Blasts crud right off the concrete walkway. Changed the color of my van! Turns out it's white, not a mottled cream color!

Finished off the birthday cake last night; and the cookies Mom baked.

We're pretty excited around here; it's supposed to be the warmest weekend yet this year, around these parts. High 70's maybe.

Now if I could only get my bikes runnin'...

as we get closer to the elections...

the Democratic party is rushing toward the center. Not surprisingly, AAR is moving the same direction, purging the furthest left hosts.

And, once again, I feel left behind. Discarded as if voters like myself are a scraps on the cutting room floor. Altered remnants of some discarded project forgotten up on long ago.

As if I represent some tiny percentage not worthy of consideration.

Why no Sammy cam

Is something wrong with the Sammy cam today, or did the powers that be decide they did not like us seeing so much.
