Clinton supporters to Pelosi: start telling super d's it's ok to vote for HRC or else!

Wow. Quite the soft sell. From their letter...

.... you suggested super-delegates have an obligation to support the candidate who
leads in the pledged delegate count as of June 3rd , whether that lead be by 500
delegates or 2. This is an untenable position that runs counter to the party’s
intent in establishing super-delegates in 1984 as well as your own comments
recorded in The Hill ten days earlier...

........

We have been strong supporters of the DCCC. We therefore urge you to clarify
your position on super-delegates and reflect in your comments a more open view
to the optional independent actions of each of the delegates at the National
Convention in August. We appreciate your activities in support of the Democratic
Party and your leadership role in the Party and hope you will be responsive to
some of your major enthusiastic supporters.

Huh. I'd have hoped that if someone was in the position to extort
Pelosi and the Democrats it would have been to get them off their asses
about impeachment.

At least the Clintons aren't in league with the sine qua non of the vast right wing conspiracy to label Obama as an employer of anti- semites........woops.

McCain is looking more and more like

the incredible shrinking face.

The fainting couches

But you're right, Sam. It's absurd that only now do they come out and say, "Whoa, Speaker! We're going to cut you off if you keep going down this path. (Don't worry - letting Bush & Co get away with war crimes is still OK with us, though.)"

Bill and Hillary are not keeping good company...

Hillary's Rev. Wright
His name is Richard Mellon Scaife.
By Timothy Noah
Updated Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at 6:47 PM ET

"...Hate speech [is] unacceptable in any setting," Hillary Clinton today told the Tribune-Review. We turn now to this excerpt from a 1981 Columbia Journalism Review profile of Scaife by Karen Rothmyer, in which the reporter describes a conversation with the distinguished publisher and philanthropist:

"Mr. Scaife, could you explain why you give so much money to the New Right?"

"You fucking Communist cunt, get out of here."

"Well. The rest of the five-minute interview was conducted at a rapid trot down Park Street, during which Scaife tried to hail a taxi. Scaife volunteered two statements of opinion regarding his questioner's personal appearance—he said she was ugly and that her teeth were "terrible"—and also the comment that she was engaged in "hatchet journalism." His questioner thanked Scaife for his time. "Don't look behind you," Scaife offered by way of a goodbye.

"Not quite sure what this remark meant, the reporter suggested that if someone were approaching it was probably her mother, whom she had arranged to meet nearby. "She's ugly, too," Scaife said, and strode off.

"For whatever reason, Scaife decided last summer to extend the hand of friendship to Bill Clinton, whose post-presidency he professes to admire. Perhaps Scaife was looking to burnish his image with the judge then presiding over his extremely nasty divorce. Maybe he wanted to get even with the former Mrs. Scaife, who apparently prefers Obama. (She gave Obama's campaign $2,300 in February.)

"Bill Clinton overcame whatever scruples he might harbor to raise money for his foundation. Hillary Clinton is now doing the same in the interest of her candidacy. She is free, of course, to associate with whomever she pleases. But she is not free, while paddling the sewers with Scaife, to judge Obama publicly for belonging to Wright's church. Compared with Scaife, Wright is St. Francis of Assisi. The only possible reason why any Pennsylvanian might judge Wright more harshly than Scaife is that Scaife is white and Wright is black. That must be obvious even to Hillary as she cozies up to this repulsive billionaire."

Senator Barbara Boxer
Statement on the Iraq War
Wednesday, March 19, 2008

San Francisco, CA – U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) today made the following statement on the Iraq war:

“Today marks five years since U.S. combat operations began in Iraq, and I am sad to say we are still embroiled in a war with no end in sight. In these five years, we have lost 3,990 of America’s brave sons and daughters. We have nearly 30,000 wounded.

“We have Marine Corps units from Twentynine Palms serving their fifth tour of duty in Iraq. Our military is being stretched to the breaking point.

“And yet, on Monday, during a visit to Iraq that still has to be cloaked in secrecy because it’s so dangerous, Vice President Cheney said, 'If you look back on those five years it has been a difficult, challenging but nonetheless successful endeavor ... and it has been well worth the effort.'

“I wonder—if the Administration had said 5 years ago, when they were starting this reckless endeavor, that it would result in loss of nearly 4,000 service members; that it would mean 30,000 of our troops wounded, many who will never be the same; that we would spend more than half a trillion dollars—would the Congress or the American people have said, that sounds worth the effort?

“Or would everyone have said, that is too high a price to pay? It is time to end this reckless endeavor.

“Our brave men and women in uniform have performed remarkably. They have reduced violence with the surge, but the political resolution that the President promised has simply not happened. General Petraeus, the Commander of Multinational Forces in Iraq, said last week that 'no one' in the U.S. and Iraqi governments 'feels that there has been sufficient progress by any means in the area of national reconciliation.'

“Our own military leaders have told us time and again, there is no military solution to the situation in Iraq.

“It is time to begin the responsible redeployment of our troops out of Iraq. It is time for the Iraqis to take control of their own security and the future of their country.”

surgin' on the edge again

Shiite enclave back on edge

By HAMZA HENDAWI and QASSIM ABDUL-ZAHRA, Associated Press Writers Wed Mar 26, 7:53 PM ET

BAGHDAD - Shiite militiamen are everywhere. Police and Iraqi army checkpoints are nowhere in sight. U.S. soldiers are keeping their distance.

Sadr City — the Baghdad nerve center for the powerful Mahdi Army — is suddenly back on edge as the militia leader, Muqtada al-Sadr, and Iraq's government lock in a dangerous confrontation over clout and control among the nation's majority Shiites.

The epicenter of the showdown has been the southern oil hub of Basra, where clashes have claimed dozens of lives this week and al-Sadr's forces face a Friday deadline to surrender.

But a more finely tuned measure of the tensions may be found among the one- and two-story homes and shabby storefronts of Sadr City. As the crisis deepened, The Associated Press toured Sadr City on Wednesday to observe its rapid swing from relative quiet to a return of the Mahdi Army swagger before the U.S. military troop buildup in Baghdad last year.

Sadr City — named after Muqtada al-Sadr's father, who was assassinated in 1999 — is seen as critical to the overall stability and security of the capital.

A resurgence of Mahdi Army attacks and opposition could roll back the gains that have allowed Baghdad residents to take cautious steps toward normal life and offered Washington hope of accelerating troop withdrawals.

But recent days have resurrected old challenges.

Al-Sadr's militia forces, estimated at about 60,000, now seem itching for a fight. The current crisis came to a head over U.S. and Iraqi raids that have detained hundreds of Mahdi Army loyalists even as the group maintained a shaky cease-fire since August — which the Pentagon has credited for helping bring down violence.

The tensions have spilled over into street battles in Basra between Mahdi fighters and Iraqi government forces. Fighting also has flared in other cities across southern Iraq's Shiite heartland — where Iran is hedging its bets by supporting factions of the Mahdi Army and its main Shiite rival.

As part of his lengthy response, the Democratic presidential candidate broached the topic that no doubt had made a vacation all the more tempting for him -- the spotlight cast upon Wright's inflammatory remarks about racial relations and America.

Obama said the pastor had said some "very objectionable things when I wasn't in church on those particular days."

But he also stressed that Wright gave at least three sermons a week for 30 years, and that people opposed to Obama's candidacy had found "five or six of his most offensive statements" and boiled them down to play over and over, mainly on YouTube.

"I hope people don't get distracted by that," he said.

Did any of the big accounting firms learn anything from Enron/Andersen and other big scandals? Apparently not and this time it's even linked to the failed subprime mortgage firm New Century. Obviously the regulations and penalties are not quite harsh enough so hopefully Washington is watching and can correct this mistake. If this report is proven, it's time to lower the boom on this industry. Allowing shenanigans like this to go on is killing the investments of Americans, many of whom will rely on honest information for their retirement plans. Is asking for the truth really so difficult?

U.S. Has ‘Moral Responsibility’ in Iraq

By JOHN HOLUSHA

Published: March 26, 2008

Senator John McCain made his case for continuing the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, saying on Wednesday that those countries are at the core of a region extending from the Middle East to Southeast Asia.

Making his first major speech on foreign policy since becoming the presumptive nominee, Mr. McCain said that withdrawing American military forced in those countries could allow them “to sink back into chaos and extremism” that would “determine the fate of that critical part of the world, but our fate, as well.”

Citi Settles Enron Suit for $1.66B

NEW YORK (AP) — Citigroup Inc. agreed Wednesday to pay $1.66 billion to creditors of Enron Corp. who lost money when the energy trader collapsed in 2001.

Citigroup was the last remaining defendant in what was known as the "Mega Claims" lawsuit, a bankruptcy suit filed in 2003 against 11 banks and brokerages. The filer, called Enron Creditors Recovery Corp., alleges that with the help of banks like Citigroup, Enron kept creditors in the dark about the company's financial troubles by using shady accounting.

Wednesday's settlement — plus previous bank settlements and Enron's subsequent release of $1.7 billion held in reserves — gives those creditors more than $5 billion, Enron said. That amounts to 37.4 cents on each dollar the creditors had tied up in Enron, according to Enron.

Citi, which denies any wrongdoing, had been trying to get the creditors suit tossed out. Enron's creditors — which include individual employees and small companies who lent Enron money — had filed claims against Citi that could have potentially totaled about $21 billion.

Obama's Pastor Slurs Italians

Wednesday, March 26, 2008 7:19 AM

By: Penny Starr Article Font Size

Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., pastor emeritus of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago where Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) has been a member for two decades, slurred Italians in a piece published in the most recent issue of Trumpet Newsmagazine.

"(Jesus') enemies had their opinion about Him," Wright wrote in a eulogy of the late scholar Asa Hilliard in the November/December 2007 issue. "The Italians for the most part looked down their garlic noses at the Galileans.

"From the circumstances surrounding Jesus' birth (in a barn in a township that was under the Apartheid Roman government that said his daddy had to be in), up to and including the circumstances surrounding Jesus' death on a cross, a Roman cross, public lynching Italian style. ..." Wright wrote. "He refused to be defined by others and Dr. Asa Hilliard also refused to be defined by others.

"The government runs everything from the White House to the schoolhouse, from the Capitol to the Klan, white supremacy is clearly in charge, but Asa, like Jesus, refused to be defined by an oppressive government because Asa got his identity from an Omnipotent God," said Wright.

Barbara Lee's War on Poverty

Recently, Congresswoman Barbara Lee said to me, "This is a moment when people are suffering. They are one paycheck -- if they have a paycheck -- away from poverty."

That's why Lee has maintained a laser-like focus on addressing poverty. One in eight Americans -- approximately 37 million people -- now live below the federal poverty line of $19,971 for a family of four. (A woefully inadequate measure that is 42 years old and fails to account for basic necessities.) That's 4.9 million more people than in 2000 and the poverty rate for children is the highest of all age groups. Nearly 60 million people live just above the poverty line. Using the British standard of measurement, approximately 30 percent of Americans -- and 40 percent of American children -- are living in poverty.

In January, Lee introduced House Concurrent Resolution 198 to get her colleagues on record saying that the US should set a national goal of cutting poverty in half over the next 10 years. The resolution stated that "policy initiatives addressing poverty have not kept pace with the needs of millions of Americans" and that "the United States has a moral responsibility to meet the needs of those persons, groups, and communities that are impoverished, disadvantaged or otherwise in poverty."

"That resolution passed on a bipartisan basis," Lee told me. "No opposition. And so we're looking now at the specific recommendations of many groups that have come together to talk about what makes sense to begin to reduce and eliminate poverty. And so, that's the mission of the Out of Poverty Caucus which I co-chair. And it's moving. The Speaker has taken note, the Leadership has taken note."

...I am not going to even pretend I know anything about computers, but I do attempt to go into the inner workings of the programs when something goes wrong. Like something will go "Here's the problem...fix it." Sometimes I get lucky and other times I hope that I can find my reboot disc.

I am currently having problems with getting onto the online AIM IM. My experience with AOL and AIM being downloaded on computers is the programs wreak havoc with them, which was further confirmed for me by toniD during a blog thread when Sam was starting the practice,(Thanks toniD:)).

I signed up for the Yahoo IM in hopes that would work for me. Unless Sam did accept my invitation, I couldn't get on today that way either.

Well I kept getting "MS Internet Explorer: an unexpected error has occurred." After looking through AIM's FAQ, I thought maybe my firewall is blocking me from getting through. (Well I think that's where I went, it's late.)

So I went in to take a look. And found that I could trace IP port addresses. I was listening to KRXA and so when I clicked that address and stream it was coming out of San Francisco. Cool. But I clicked Yahoo and AIM ports and where were those ports coming from but China. I thought this can't be right but with each same port number, sure enough, China.

So, very interesting. Seems, Mel, EB called it--you may have been caught up in global politics.

The Audacity of Hypocrisy

by Joe Mowrey

...
Right. First of all, who actually believes that white racism is not “endemic” in this country? And who doesn’t get it that most of what is “right with America” is in fact little more than a series of flowery myths which obscure our deep-seated narcissism and rampant history of imperialist war mongering? But the most “audacious” hypocrisy in the entire speech is the implication that the conflicts in the Middle East emanate from “the perverse and hateful ideologies of radical islam.” Of course, European and Western colonialism and imperialism have no bearing on the discussion and our stalwart ally, Israel, has nothing to do with the situation. Radical islam just popped up out of the fertile sands of the cradle of civilization with no provocation or rational historical context.

Praising Israel in a speech about racism is like praising the history of White South Africa in a speech about civil rights. Has the fact that Israel is a Zionist state completely escaped the minds of all the Obamakins?

For a brief update: Zionism is the political ideology which promotes the exclusivity of Jews in Israel over any other racial, religious or ethnic group. Zionism, by definition, is racism. Israel, with the full support and funding of the United States, flagrantly violates international law and engages in the systematic ethnic cleansing and oppression of the Palestinian people as well as in the establishment of an apartheid system, not just in the West Bank and Gaza, but in Israel proper. The illegal colonization of Palestinian lands is an international crime and a model of institutionalized racism which is without equal any where in the world in that it is so widely ignored and even encouraged by the majority of so-called civilized nations. More importantly, what is largely forgotten in the little discussion there is of illegal settlement activities being practiced by Israel, is that the settlements themselves are racially exclusive. Jews only need apply. Palestinians aren’t even allowed to drive on the same roads as the Israelis in the Palestinians’ own territory. I wonder how Mr. Obama would respond if Canada decided to build huge whites-only cities in U.S. territory. I wonder if he would be willing to refrain from driving on a series of Canadians-only roads connecting those illegal colonies. It would only be a security precaution, after all, and Canada is such a stalwart ally or ours.

So-called liberals should examine their consciences before they bow down at the alter of Obamakinism. He has a lot of wonderful, albeit vapid things to say on the subject of race. Indeed, he has a unique platform and perspective from which to address this and other issues. Unfortunately, he is too busy selling out to the Israel lobby and a vast array of corporate interests to actually rise to the occasion in any substantive fashion.

The SCIENCE of terror

...
Terror - a rather loose term that includes many actors that should properly be considered insurgents, guerrillas, or freedom fighters as in Palestine and Iraq - sooner or later becomes identified with suicide bombers, and it is this aspect that receives much psychological wonderment and is the target of the Scientific American article. ‘Terrorists,’ as have been analyzed more and more frequently, are not the rabid raving lunatics on the religious fringe, not the “Islamofascists” of the deluded Neocon mind, those who wish to destroy “us”, the “west”, because of our freedoms and rights. Instead, as most truly scientific studies have shown, ‘terrorists’ of the suicidal kind (and even of the non-suicidal kind) do not arise from the masses of poor, starving wretches of the third world who are too busy trying to feed themselves and surviving without the time and energy for greater philosophical thoughts about who might be oppressing them.

The majority of suicide ‘terrorists’ are generally well educated, frequently considered to be well off in comparison to the overall population – people who have the time and philosophical training to think about the injustices of the world, and – most importantly – are battling an occupying force that is of a different religious or sectarian belief [5]. It should be noted that the longer an occupation lasts, the more there will be insurgents classified as terrorists as the “collateral damage” continues and as their means of fighting back are hugely asymmetrical and by necessity increasingly desperate.

Hillary Clinton Lied AND

Hillary Clinton Lied AND Plagiarized Sen. Olympia J. Snowe (R-Maine) on Trip to Bosnia

Washington Post

Well, It Did Happen to Somebody

For those of you who doubt that story involving a Balkan airport, the one Hillary Rodham Clinton tells about darting across the tarmac to dodge sniper fire, take note: It really did happen.

Just not to Clinton.

In October 1995, six months before then-first lady Clinton led a delegation to Tuzla, Sen. Olympia J. Snowe (R-Maine) and six other senators went on a fact-finding mission through war-torn Sarajevo, just before the Dayton accords resulted in a U.S. military presence on the ground in Bosnia.

Snowe's congressional delegation had an experience remarkably similar to the one Sen. Clinton (D-N.Y.) described in a speech delivered on St. Patrick's Day. Clinton has since said that she "misspoke" when she recalled arriving in Tuzla under sniper fire.

Unlike Clinton's version, Snowe's story was backed up news accounts. Clinton's story has been debunked by sources including television news accounts and the memories of the comedian Sinbad.

The seven senators flew into the host city of the 1984 Olympics on a military C-130 that, in addition to its senatorial payload, was carrying 20,000 pounds of peas to the starved city. A States News Service dispatch from Oct. 20, 1995, provided a portion of Snowe's Bosnia account:

"It's really sad. People are basically just living there and trying to survive," the Maine Republican said. "They're constantly living under threat of shelling or sniper fire." . . . As the plane landed she took note of the fortified bunkers surrounding Sarajevo's airport. . . . She glanced at the wall of firetrucks lined up along the airport tarmac, acting as shields from any Serb gunman looking to make a name for himself. She dashed across the runway to an armored vehicle waiting to whisk the senators to the city center. She glared at the hollowed-out remains of buildings along the city's main highway, better known as "Sniper Alley.".........

Rabbi Arnold Jacob Wolf: I support Barack Obama

http://thejewishweek.com/viewArticle/c55_a5420/Editorial__Opinion/Opinio...
[...]
Clearly, though, anyone who thinks Obama waffles on Israel hasn't been paying attention. In 2007, he spoke to AIPAC about "a clear and strong commitment to the security of Israel." Today, his website states clearly that America's "first and incontrovertible commitment in the Middle East must be to the security of Israel."

For my part, I've sometimes found Obama too cautious on Israel. He, like all our politicians, knows he mustn't stray too far from the conventional line, and that can be disappointing. But unlike anyone else on the stump, Obama has also made it clear that he'll broaden the dialogue. He knows what peace entails.
[...]
We've forgotten that Black and Jewish America once shared a common vision. In the civil rights era, I and many in our community stood shoulder to shoulder with the giants of our generation, demanding freedom for all Americans.

Obama himself doesn't share our amnesia, however. "I would not be sitting here," he said in Cleveland, "if it were not for a whole host of Jewish Americans." That was literal truth, but not everyone remembers it.

I've worked with Obama for more than a decade, as has my son, a lawyer who represents children and people with disabilities. He has admired Obama's dedication and skill as he worked on issues affecting our most vulnerable citizens.

Obama is no anti-Semite. He is not anti-Israel. He is one of our own, the one figure on the political scene who remembers our past, and has a real vision for repairing our present.

Barack Obama is brilliant and open-hearted; he is wiser and more thoughtful than his former minister. He offers what America, Israel, and the Jewish community need: a US President willing to ask hard questions, and grapple with difficult answers.

I am very proud to be his neighbor. I hope someday to visit him in the White House.

Obama home
http://tinyurl.com/27pxzb

I listened to the audio of part of the interview he gave to the Chicago Tribune Editorial staff and his explanation about the circumstances of buying his home made perfect sense. He couldn't afford the lot that bordered the curb so he didn't bid on that. But, Rezko was a developer and when Barack asked him to look at the house Rezko noticed that the land next to it was a great development opportunity and bought it.

If Barack becomes President, hopefully, he can prevent that land from becoming developed. He'll need it for his security, I would think.

Harry Truman

Obama's home reminds me a little of Harry Truman's in Independence, Missouri, although Truman's is a wood facade.
Mostly because it was in a metropolitan area (Kansas City). Truman walked around the neighborhood when he was staying there.

Iraq oil - another black

Iraq oil - another black hole of corruption
by Chris in Paris · 3/27/2008 04:27:00 AM ET · Link

It's hardly a surprise considering all of the other areas of corruption and missing millions and billions. So far for each story of failure and missing money, the result from the Bush administration (and Congress, for that matter) has been a shoulder shrug. We continue to throw money in to that pit, allowing Republican talking points to dominate the discussion and rule the day. Somehow, we expect a different end result despite no evidence that suggests anything has changed. If the administration is afraid of taking action, why would Iraqi ministers change their behavior? Either way, as the bill for the Wall Street bailout hits home, American opinions on more spending in Iraq is going to change. When the question is bailout at home or bailout of Iraq, who do you think Americans will choose?

Fed May Emerge From Crisis

Fed May Emerge From Crisis With More Influence at SEC Expense

By Craig Torres

March 27 (Bloomberg) -- America's financial system faces its biggest overhaul since the Great Depression as officials weigh lessons from the credit-market rout and the near collapse of Bear Stearns Cos.

Federal Reserve policy makers are redefining which companies are vital to the flow of credit, an area once the sole domain of commercial banks, and which institutions pose risks to the entire economy if they fail. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson said in a speech yesterday that the Fed should broaden its oversight to include Wall Street investment firms, now regulated by the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Former regulators predict the changes will see the Fed accrue influence at the expense of the SEC, which was created by President Franklin Roosevelt to make rules for dealers and stock exchanges. The Fed is taking almost $30 billion in assets off Bear Stearns's balance sheet to encourage JPMorgan Chase & Co. to buy the firm, even though Bear's main supervisor is the SEC.

``This is tectonic,'' said Ralph Ferrara, a former general counsel at the SEC, and now a partner at Dewey & LeBoeuf LLP in Washington. ``We no longer want to have a balkanized response to a national crisis.''

In 2006, New York Fed President Timothy Geithner, saw the need to ``revisit'' the Fed's authority. In a panel discussion on Sept. 26 of that year, he said the Fed supervised a ``diminished'' portion of the system as securities firms and hedge funds grew in influence. Paulson is finishing his own review.

New evidence suggests second shooter killed RFK

David Edwards and Nick Juliano
Published: Wednesday March 26, 2008

Forty years after Democratic rising star Robert F. Kennedy was killed at a Los Angeles hotel during his presidential run, new evidence suggests the man serving a life sentence for his murder did not fire the shots that killed the charismatic senator.

Forensic scientists met at a conference in Connecticut this week to discuss their independent findings that cast serious doubt on the Kennedy assassination. Sirhan Sirhan is serving a life sentence in Kennedy's death, but the conference presenters argue he could not have fired the fatal shot that killed Kennedy.

One investigator, Dr. Robert Joling, has studied the Kennedy assassination for nearly four decades. He determined the fatal shot came from behind Kennedy, while Sirhan was four to six feet in front of the senator and never got close enough to shoot him from behind, an NBC affiliate reports.

US says Iran could do more to help end Iraq unrest

Iran could do more to help end violence in Iraq, the US military said on Wednesday, calling on Tehran to use its influence to help end lawlessness in the southern city of Basra.

"There is no question that the government of Iran has significant influence in Basra, in the province and in southeastern Iraq in general," said military spokesman Major General Kevin Bergner.

"We would love to see the government of Iran fulfill its commitments to help improve security and stability (in Basra) ... and reduce the activities of those operating outside the law," Bergner told a news conference in Baghdad.

He was speaking a day after Iraqi security forces launched a massive sweep in the southern oil hub aimed, according to Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, at "lawless gangs" that have taken over parts of city.

Bergner said around 2,000 additional troops and police had been moved into Basra to assist in the operation to quell the armed groups, triggering fighting that has left about 50 dead in Basra and Baghdad.

Witnesses have said the troops are moving into areas controlled by the Mahdi Army of radical cleric Moqtada al-Sadr but Bergner said the militia is not being targeted in particular.

"The actions are not against (the Mahdi Army). It is the government of Iraq taking responsibility and acting to deal with criminals on the streets."

Iraqi troops moved into the city on Tuesday and "will continue to press into neighbourhoods and districts... that are contested," Bergner said, adding that the US military is not participating beyond playing a liaison role.

Make Them Do It

by digby

Authors Naomi Klein (The Shock Doctrine) and Jeremy Scahill (Blackwater) have written an important article about ending the war. The central thrust of the piece is that we should be using this prolonged primary to leverage the two candidates against each other on the issue instead of joining in the fun and games of primary politics.

There is no question that the Bush administration has proven impervious to public pressure. That's why it's time for the anti-war movement to change tactics. We should direct our energy where it can still have an impact: the leading Democratic contenders.

Many argue otherwise. They say that if we want to end the war, we should simply pick a candidate who is not John McCain and help them win: We'll sort out the details after the Republicans are evicted from 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Some of the most prominent anti-war voices--from MoveOn.org to the magazine we write for, The Nation--have gone this route, throwing their weight behind the Obama campaign.

This is a serious strategic mistake. It is during a hotly contested campaign that anti-war forces have the power to actually sway U. S. policy. As soon as we pick sides, we relegate ourselves to mere cheerleaders.

Updated: PE Firms Sue Banks To Save Clear Channel Deal; Clear Channel Wants Huge Penalty

Joseph Weisenthal

Wednesday, March 26, 2008; 7:07 PM

Looks like the banks financing the Clear Channel (NYSE: CCU) sale definitely want to walk. Last night reports emerged that the deal was on the rocks, and now the two PE firms, Thomas H. Lee and Bain Capital Partners, have filed suit to save the deal. WSJ reports that the firms have filed suit in two locations Bexar County, Texas and the New York State Supreme Court, claiming that the financing banks did not negotiate in good faith, and attempted to insert "poison provisions" in the agreement. Details on those provisions were not reported. Why do the banks?Citigroup, Morgan Stanley, Credit Suisse, The Royal Bank of Scotland, Deutsche Bank and Wachovia?want out so bad? A report from Bloomberg today suggested that the banks stand to lose about $3 billion the moment the deal goes through, based on current trading of similar debt. Shares of Clear Channel tumbled 17 percent in today's action.

From the release, which is now out: "'We are disappointed and dismayed that the banks have chosen not to fund the transaction under the terms of the binding commitments they entered into almost a year ago. It seems clear that lenders' remorse set in when credit markets worsened. Now they are trying to walk away from their commitment letter which clearly states that they bear all the risk that conditions in the debt markets might change. The banks are attempting to do so by changing the deal in ways no responsible purchaser could ever accept? replacing an extended, long-term financing package of at least 6 years that they've been committed to all along with a short-term 3-year bridge financing.'"

Update: Clear Channel has filed a separate suit against the banks, claiming that the banks are: "refusing to execute necessary documents in an overt effort to 'run out the clock' and cause [their] merger agreement to collapse." As for what the company is seeking, the company says the recent actions have created: "immeasurable damages exceeding the parties' agreement for $26 billion" Release.

Linked To Second Prostitution Ring, Wicked Models

Today's NY Post links former New York governor Eliot Spitzer to Wicked Models, a high-priced prostitution ring busted this week. His spokeswoman denies he was a client. Three weeks ago Spitzer stepped down as governor when he was linked to Emperors Club VIP. Based in midtown Manhattan, Wicked Models was run by a buxom blonde named Kristin "Billie" Davis, who also saw clients. Davis, 32, is currently being held on $2 M bail after pleading not guilty to promoting prostitution and money laundering.

FIRE STEPHANIE MILLER!!!!

"Pimped Out" Resurfaces On MSNBC

On "Verdict with Dan Abrams" Wednesday night the infamous phrase "pimped out" returned during a discussion of Chelsea Clinton.

The panel — which featured Huffington Post Media Editor Rachel Sklar, radio hosts Bill Press and Stephanie Miller, and Butler University student Evan Strange — was debating the merits of asking Chelsea to comment on her mother's credibility in light of the Monica Lewinsky scandal, which Strange asked her to do the day before. Miller jumped in with the dreaded two words that caused MSNBC so much grief and earned David Shuster a two week suspension (though he ultimately claimed he was "thrown under the bus to pay for the sins the of father").

A wary Dan Abrams immediately went into polite damage control, dismissing the phrase "pimped out" as "unacceptable," and saying, "this has been an issue here, we don't need another issue."

AT&T CEO says hard to find skilled U.S. workers

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Reuters) - The head of the top U.S. phone company AT&T Inc (T.N) said on Wednesday it was having trouble finding enough skilled workers to fill all the 5,000 customer service jobs it promised to return to the United States from India.

"We're having trouble finding the numbers that we need with the skills that are required to do these jobs," AT&T Chief Executive Randall Stephenson told a business group in San Antonio, where the company's headquarters is located.

So far, only around 1,400 jobs have been returned to the United States of 5,000, a target it set in 2006, the company said, adding that it maintains the target.

Stephenson said he is especially distressed that in some U.S. communities and among certain groups, the high school dropout rate is as high as 50 percent.

Finding Political News Online, the Young Pass It On

Senator Barack Obama’s videotaped response to President Bush’s final State of the Union address — almost five minutes of Mr. Obama’s talking directly to the camera — elicited little attention from newspaper and television reporters in January.

But on the medium it was made for, the Internet, the video caught fire. Quickly after it was posted on YouTube, it appeared on the video-sharing site’s most popular list and Google’s most blogged list. It has been viewed more than 1.3 million times, been linked by more than 500 blogs and distributed widely on social networking sites like Facebook.

It is not news that young politically minded viewers are turning to alternative sources like YouTube, Facebook and late-night comedy shows like “The Daily Show.” But that is only the beginning of how they process information.

According to interviews and recent surveys, younger voters tend to be not just consumers of news and current events but conduits as well — sending out e-mailed links and videos to friends and their social networks. And in turn, they rely on friends and online connections for news to come to them. In essence, they are replacing the professional filter — reading The Washington Post, clicking on CNN.com — with a social one.

Obama To Speak On Economy In NYC; Bloomberg Attends

NEW YORK -- Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who has said his endorsement is up for grabs in the presidential race, will introduce Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama Thursday at a campaign event in Manhattan.

Obama's speech at Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in Greenwich Village will focus heavily on the economy.

The billionaire mayor had considered his own independent presidential campaign but said a month ago that he had decided not to run. His focus, he said at the time, would be on getting the candidates to embrace a bipartisan approach.

Bloomberg also said last month that he might throw his wealth and support behind one candidate, adding that "they're all in contention."

Poll: Obama Has Big Lead Over McCain In Connecticut, Hillary Winning Narrowly
By Eric Kleefeld - March 27, 2008, 8:38AM

A new Quinnipiac poll of Connecticut gives Barack Obama a much firmer grip on the state than Hillary Clinton for the general election:

Clinton (D) 45%, McCain (R) 42%
Obama (D) 52%, McCain (R) 35%

From the internals: Obama wins independents 45%-38% over McCain, while McCain wins independents 48%-36% against Hillary.

Obama narrowly won the Connecticut primary on Super Tuesday, and has since picked up the endorsement of Sen. Chris Dodd — while John McCain is of course supported by the state's other Senator, Joe Lieberman.

CLINTON TACTICS TURN OFF SOME SUPERDELEGATES

Clinton tactics turn off some superdelegates
Posted: Wednesday, March 26, 2008 5:55 PM by Domenico Montanaro

At a time when Sen. Hillary Clinton is increasingly relying on superdelegates to vault her to the Democratic Party's nomination, a handful of undecided and pledged superdelegates are coming forward to say her campaign's tactics in recent weeks are doing more harm than good.

The Democratic Party insiders say they believe Clinton's direct attacks against Sen. Barack Obama in recent days are hurting the party and its chances in November, and also say it is showing a calculated, desperate-to-win side of Clinton that they dislike.

"In looking at the manner in which the candidates are campaigning, I think it would be best they focused their attention on the presumptive nominee and showed our party which one is better in campaigning against McCain," said Garry Shay, a California superdelegate, who announced his support for Clinton.

Unlike some in the party, these superdelegates said they do not believe Clinton should drop out of the race. They said they are committed to the democratic process, and want to allow the states still remaining to cast their ballots. But they acknowledged Obama is the likely nominee and suggested the personal attacks were only hurting the party and its viability.

The Clinton campaign has been actively wooing these delegates, believing a plurality represents the strongest, and increasingly the only, way for her to win the nomination. But one undeclared delegate, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the recent tactics are turning her and other superdelegates off.

3 Drivers Killed Delivering Food Aid in Sudan

Three men delivering food aid for the U.N. in Sudan were killed in recent days, the latest in a surge of attacks that have delayed the arrival of vital supplies to needy recipients, the World Food Program said Tuesday.

The attacks came about two weeks after the WFP warned that banditry was reducing by half the amount of food normally transported to the western region of Darfur at this time of year.

The agency said the violence was damaging to the welfare of Sudan's citizens and called on the attacks to stop.

"All parties must recognize that the drivers of humanitarian vehicles and their cargo are serving a neutral purpose," WFP Sudan Representative Kenro Oshidari said in a statement released Tuesday. "By attacking humanitarian staff, these assailants are also hurting innocent people who need food assistance."

Hillary: Bosnia Sniper Flap Not What Voters Want To Be Talking About
By Eric Kleefeld - March 27, 2008, 8:58AM

Hillary Clinton said in a Fox News interview shown last night that the flap over her trip to Bosnia, and previous statements that she had come under sniper fire, are not what voters want to be talking about — a sign that she recognizes the seriousness of the problems at hand, and is doing a media tour to control the damage.

"I'm a human being. I made a mistake and owned up to it," Hillary told Greta Van Susteren. "But that's not what people talk to me about. When I'm out campaigning ... people want to talk about the economy and health care, and they want to know what are you going to do to get fix our country and get it back on track, and help my family and me.

"And that what I'm really engaged in. Because, you know, when you've been on a campaign for 14 months there's all kinds of other distractions, but at the end of the day this is a hiring decision."

In Major Speech, Obama Calls

In Major Speech, Obama Calls for Modernizing Our Regulation of Financial Markets
By Sam Graham-Felsen - Mar 27th, 2008 at 9:43 am EDT

Comments | Mail to a Friend | Report Objectionable Content
NEW YORK, NY—In a major economic address at Cooper Union today, Senator Barack Obama called for immediate relief for homeowners hit by the housing crisis, modernization of our regulatory framework, and an additional $30 billion stimulus package to jumpstart the economy and help protect families from the economic slowdown. As confidence in our financial markets wanes and Americans struggle in the face of a mortgage crisis, Obama stressed the importance of pushing back on the special interests and honoring our obligation to one another—and that doing so is not just a matter of altruism but a matter of self-interest.

“Under Republican and Democratic Administrations, we failed to guard against practices that all too often rewarded financial manipulation instead of productivity and sound business practices,” Senator Obama said. “We let the special interests put their thumbs on the economic scales. The result has been a distorted market that creates bubbles instead of steady, sustainable growth; a market that favors Wall Street over Main Street, but ends up hurting both.”

Obama was introduced at Cooper Union by Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a legendary business executive who has shown deep commitment to community and family prosperity as mayor of America’s largest city.

In his speech today, Obama made the case that while markets are the engine of American progress, the government’s role as umpire and steward is critical to the function of the free market. For too long, he said, special interests have been able to bend the rules to maximize their profits on the backs of hardworking Americans.

Obama pledged to restore confidence in the markets, tackle the housing crisis and protect families from the economic slowdown by:

Ø Creating 21st century standards for transparency and oversight of the financial system in order to prevent future abuses and crises.

Ø Providing immediate relief to homeowners hit by the housing crisis.

Ø Enacting a second stimulus package to stabilize and strengthen the economy, provide aid to homeowners and states hardest-hit by the housing crisis, and extend and expand unemployment insurance.

A fact sheet detailing these steps, as well as Obama’s principles for modernizing the regulatory framework for our financial markets, can be found HERE.

You are probably too young or maybe not even here to remember the horror that was the JKF, RFK, MLK assasinations. Some people believe the deaths had an FBI connection, But, all three men were inspirational and inspired devotion. I remember it and it is a well founded fear because of the racism that is in this country. But, the nation has become more ehnically diverse, blacks are more assimilated into society, and I think there is greater awareness on the part of the population about what "bad acts" the government is capable of doing. Plus, it sounds like the Secret Service is determined not to let anything happen to him. I can only hope.

Colombia says it found uranium linked to FARC

The seizure of up to 66 pounds of low-grade uranium linked to the FARC rebels adds weight to the evidence found in a captured rebel laptop that the guerrillas were interested in buying and selling the material, according to the Colombian Defense Ministry.

But the 30 kilos of uranium found Wednesday in plastic bags dug up about three feet from a road in southern Bogotá was "impoverished," the ministry said, and in that state could not have been used to make a radioactive bomb.

Authorities were waiting for further analysis to determine how dangerous the material found really is, armed forces commander Freddy Padilla said at a press conference late Wednesday.

"DO YOU THINK ITS BAD TO WORK

DO YOU THINK ITS BAD TO WORK FOR A LARGE CORPORATION?

Is it wrong to work for a multi-national corporation with one of the worst reputations.

anybody?"

It's not wrong if you need a job. Jobs are hard to find today so you have to look out for yourself. The way you change it is by working to change the corporation. Voting in a new Gov't that wants to change things is the first step.

Many people have to work at WalMart. They don't have the best rep, but people need to eat and support families. Just be smart about it and read everything so you know what is going on in that company.

Obama-Bloomberg Ticket? MSNBC Points Out Potential

A fall preview: Those who love the Veepstakes will enjoy today's Obama speech, not for the substance but for the person who will introduce him: Michael Bloomberg. While the mayor says he's not endorsing anyone (yet?), this is the second time Bloomberg has given Obama a high profile photo-op (remember the meeting at that diner a few months back?). As for Obama's economic speech, per the campaign, "Obama takes on special interests for housing/economic crisis; lays out principles for new regulatory framework." Obama, himself, previewed the speech on the plane yesterday. "I will be giving some, I will be outlining, my thoughts on the current state of the economy. How we got there and some very specific prescriptions, what helped trigger the financial crisis and the financial problems." But it will be the potential of Obama-Bloomberg that could be the most important take-away. In fact, considering that anti-Israel sentiments being expressed by the Rev. Wright in these newly circulating church bulletins (see Andrea Mitchell's reporting on TODAY below in the Obama section). A fortunate thing for Obama is at least these church bulletins aren't video. The idea of a Jewish running mate might end up making more and more sense for Obama as the summer wears on.

Pelosi's office responds to Clinton supporters

Brendan Daly, a spokesman for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), responded late Wednesday night to a letter by supporters of New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton urging his boss to stop making comments about the superdelegates respecting the will of Democratic primary voters and caucus-goers:

“Speaker Pelosi is confident that superdelegates will choose between Senators Clinton or Obama -- our two strong candidates -- before the convention in August," Daly said. "That choice will be based on many considerations, including respecting the decisions of millions of Americans who have voted in primaries and participated in caucuses. The Speaker believes it would do great harm to the Democratic Party if superdelegates are perceived to overturn the will of the voters. This has been her position throughout this primary season, regardless of who was ahead at any particular point in delegates or votes.”

The Clinton supporters had asked Pelosi, who remains neutral in the presidential contest, to refrain from making comments that could influence undecided superdelegates to back the candidate with the most votes - who, at this point, happens to be the New York senator's rival, Illinois Sen. Barack Obama. But Daly's comments suggest the speaker will not be backing off of her stance any time soon.

Senator Boxer quote:

“And yet, on Monday, during a visit to Iraq that still has to be cloaked in secrecy because it’s so dangerous, Vice President Cheney said, 'If you look back on those five years it has been a difficult, challenging but nonetheless successful endeavor ... and it has been well worth the effort.'"

I want to say to this to Senator Boxer: President-of-Vice Cheney and Usurper Bush only SEEM to say outrageous and unsupportable things; but if you look at their words from THEIR point of view, you can see their words make sense to THEM! A 'successful effort'? And 'well worth the effort'? From the thieving point of view of this Bush Cabal, it has been a success beyond their dreams; when they leave Executive Branch positions (if they do!), they will have garnered both personal fortunes AND plenty more monies for their shadowy schemes (including the Shadow Government now manned by their select den of rogues, thugs, and other minions)!

Iraqi Spy Agency Funded Lawmakers' Trip, U.S. Says

March 26 (Bloomberg) -- Saddam Hussein's intelligence agency secretly funded a trip to Iraq by three U.S. congressmen in 2002 before the U.S. invaded the country, according to charges filed in a Michigan case.

An indictment, unsealed today, accuses a naturalized U.S. citizen born in Iraq of organizing the trip. Muthanna al-Hanooti was charged by federal prosecutors in Detroit with conspiring to act as an Iraqi agent without notifying the U.S. He received 2 million barrels of oil in payment for bringing the lawmakers to the country, the indictment said.

In 1999 or 2000, according to the court papers, al-Hanooti was contacted by an Iraqi intelligence officer who wanted him to publicize within the U.S. the harm Iraq believed was caused by international sanctions against the country. The officer also asked al-Hanooti to bring members of Congress who might favor lifting the sanctions to the country for a visit, court papers said.

Al-Hanooti worked at the time for Life for Relief and Development, a charity group based in Southfield, Michigan, according to the indictment. The organization, whose Web site says it was formed in 1992 to respond to a humanitarian crisis in Iraq, wasn't charged.

An intermediary in Michigan, not identified in the indictment, paid $34,000 to Life for Relief and Development for the delegation's travel expenses, the government said.

Three Members

The indictment didn't identify the three members of Congress it said traveled to Iraq with al-Hanooti. The Associated Press reported that the timing coincided with a trip taken by Democratic Representatives Jim McDermott of Washington, Mike Thompson of California and David Bonior of Michigan. McDermott and Thompson are still serving in the House of Representatives. Bonior didn't seek re-election in 2002.

Thompson and a spokesman for McDermott said the congressmen had no knowledge that the trip was funded by the Iraqi intelligence agency.

McDermott spokesman Mike DeCesare said the congressman was invited by a church group to see the plight of Iraqi children living under international sanctions. The lawmaker wouldn't have made the trip had he known who financed it, DeCesare said.

Chelsey's questioner...

We live in the Age of Celebrity. Chelsey Clinton needs to realize that those to whom the masses grant celebrity (after a big media blitz, of course) no longer have private lives! If Chelsey Clinton wasn't part of a 'celebrity' family, no one would come to see her! There's a price one pays the masses for getting to occupy the celebrated position.

Answer a student's question in ANY way and it's STILL news....that's celebrity treatment.

Was the question a valid one? The Clintons' private lives have become part of the nation's life, too -- repeated endlessly on the TV and media.

The questioner was young, after all. He's always lived in a world that talks about L'Affaire Lewinski in common discussion and NEVER hushed tones! I doubt he ever considered it a TABOO topic for a question! In his youth he shows he has not yet been made schizophrenic -- that is, he has not yet mastered forcing to repress and inhibit discussion OF THE OBVIOUS. Chelsey, on the other had, HAS been indoctrinated and feels she can flaunt the taboo without even a shred of grace! No points for Chelsey this time!

NAFTA-gate probe to be made public

CAMPBELL CLARK

From Thursday's Globe and Mail

March 27, 2008 at 4:20 AM EDT

OTTAWA — The federal government's top civil servant has pledged to make public the results of an investigation into Canadian leaks that damaged the presidential campaign of U.S. Senator Barack Obama.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper handed responsibility for an internal inquiry to Kevin Lynch, the Clerk of the Privy Council, after it emerged that his chief of staff, Ian Brodie, sparked the so-called "NAFTA-gate" affair in a conversation with reporters from CTV News.

Mr. Lynch pledged in a letter to Liberal MP Navdeep Bains that the results of the internal probe will be made public, and will include the "verbal" leaks - not only the later leak of a diplomatic memo.

Mr. Bains said he is encouraged by the assurances, but added that Mr. Brodie and Michael Wilson, the ambassador to Washington, should still step aside until the probe is completed.

The leaks led to reports that Mr. Obama's campaign had reassured Canadian diplomats through back-channels that the candidate's calls for renegotiating the North American free-trade agreement were political rhetoric, not serious plans.

The Times apologizes over article on rapper

A Los Angeles Times story about a brutal 1994 attack on rap superstar Tupac Shakur was partially based on documents that appear to have been fabricated, the reporter and editor responsible for the story said Wednesday.

Reporter Chuck Philips and his supervisor, Deputy Managing Editor Marc Duvoisin, issued statements of apology Wednesday afternoon. The statements came after The Times took withering criticism for the Shakur article, which appeared on latimes.com last week and two days later in the paper's Calendar section.

The criticism came first from The Smoking Gun website, which said the newspaper had been the victim of a hoax, and then from subjects of the story, who said they had been defamed.

"In relying on documents that I now believe were fake, I failed to do my job," Philips said in a statement Wednesday. "I'm sorry."

In his statement, Duvoisin added: "We should not have let ourselves be fooled. That we were is as much my fault as Chuck's. I deeply regret that we let our readers down."

Obama's pastor Jeremiah Wright will not attend North Texas events

08:37 AM CDT on Thursday, March 27, 2008
By SAM HODGES / The Dallas Morning News
shodges@dallasnews.com

Jeremiah Wright, longtime pastor of presidential candidate Barack Obama, has cancelled plans to attend weekend events in Dallas.

The decision comes amid continuing debate over whether Mr. Obama should have remained a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, given controversial statements Dr. Wright made from the pulpit there.

Brite Divinity School reported Wednesday that one of its officials had received notice that Dr. Wright will not attend its State of the Black Church Summit luncheon on Saturday at Paul Quinn College.

Brite planned to honor Dr. Wright at a Saturday night banquet at Friendship-West Baptist Church, but he'll miss that event, too, according to a statement on the school's Web site.

Both events will be held without Dr. Wright, the school said.

Brite gave no reason for Dr. Wright's cancellation. But Frederick Haynes III, pastor of Friendship-West, said he spoke to Dr. Wright early Wednesday and heard that he was canceling out of concern for all that was being done to provide security.

Iraqi Civilian Spokesman for Baghdad Security Operation Kidnapped, 3 Guards Killed

KIM GAMEL
AP News

Mar 27, 2008 09:01 EST

An Interior Ministry official says the civilian spokesman for the Baghdad security operation has been kidnapped and three bodyguards killed.

Tahseen Sheikhly is a Sunni who often appeared with U.S. military and embassy officials at news conferences to tout the successes of the crackdown that began in Baghdad and surrounding areas more than a year ago.

The official says gunmen stormed Sheikhly's house Thursday in a Mahdi Army stronghold in southeastern Baghdad and torched it. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to release the information.

re-emptive strike

Here's McCain's criticism/pre-emptive reaction to Clinton and Obama's speeches:
“On Tuesday, I addressed the housing crisis and its devastating impact on our financial markets and the household budgets of millions of hardworking Americans. The fact is that there are about 4 million homeowners in danger of losing their homes. We have a responsibility to take action to help those among them who are deserving homeowners, and as I said this week, I am committed to considering any and all proposals to do so. Any action must further look to the future to make certain this never happens again.

“As I said on Tuesday, I believe the role of government is to help the truly needy, prevent systemic economic risk, and enact reforms that prevent the kind of crisis we are currently experiencing from ever happening again. Those reforms should focus on improving transparency and accountability in our capital markets -- both of which were lacking in the lead-up to the current situation.

“However, what is not necessary is a multi-billion dollar bailout for big banks and speculators, as Senators Clinton and Obama have proposed. There is a tendency for liberals to seek big government programs that sock it to American taxpayers while failing to solve the very real problems we face.

“This is a complex problem that deserves a careful, balanced approach that helps the homeowners in trouble, not big banks and speculators that acted irresponsibly. I again call on our lending institutions, where possible, to step up and help Americans who are hurting in this crisis.”

As you know, Hillary got her top donors to threaten to pull to pull their support of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC). Basically, 20 top donors wrote Speaker Pelosi and told her that if she doesn't publicly endorse Hillary's effort to steal Obama's elected delegates, they may pull their money from the DCCC. Make no mistake, Hillary was behind yesterday's letter threatening House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Your top donors don't make a public move like that against our more important elected official in the House without Hillary's approval (and most likely, Hillary's coordination).

The thing is, Hillary has now moved beyond endangering our race for the White House. She's now risking our House Majority.

The DCCC is the body responsible for electing and re-electing Democrats in the House. By getting her rich super-donors to threaten to stop funding the DCCC, Hillary is threatening to severely damage our efforts to hold the House in the fall. If the DCCC doesn't have as much money, then every candidate the DCCC supports will get less money.

What The Rev said isn't going to go away!

Interesting Letterman show last night. He had Brian Williams, the NBC anchorman and respected journalist on, and no question was asked about the Wright controversy. Instead, Letterman and Williams discussed the bungled Iraq War Bush has us stuck in, and the hatred towards Americans by the rest of the world. Williams said his daughter and her friends were heckled for being Americans in Scotland last summer. Letterman was worried that Bush has destroyed America's credibility forever.

Williams was trying to be positive and believe America can restore its face to the rest of the world. He mentioned Hillary not giving up and dragging the primaries until June. No mention of Rev. Wright.

Perhaps the 3% talk is getting into the mainstream now. It's contagious.

Hillary Clinton has one thing to say to those who are counting her out in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination: “It is a long way from being over.”

Clinton trails Barack Obama by 157 pledged delegates with a dwindling number of primaries yet to be decided.

But in an interview with Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren on Wednesday night, Hillary referred to a new Rasmussen poll revealing that 62 percent of Democrats want both candidates to remain in the race.

“That is what people are telling me,” Clinton said. “Let the voters have a chance to be heard. Nobody should be writing obituaries on this race, because it is a long way from being over.”
