dots don't count
How All Time Exists at Once
According to the “Other Side” - The MECHANISM for Living Parallel Lifetimes
Many metaphysical sources refer to the fact that Earth time is greatly “slowed down” due to the heaviness and density of matter. Einstein’s theory says that any object’s motion is shared between space and time.
All objects are moving forward in time. But when an object accelerates, its motion through time slows down. In fact, if an object could accelerate to light speed, all movement through time would stop. We can now prove Einstein’s theory using chronometers (perfectly accurate clocks) in the space shuttle, compared with chronometers back on Earth.
What many people don’t realize is that converse about matter is also true. When an object slows down, it’s movement through time increases. If an object comes to a complete stop, then all its movement is through time. We don’t often think about matter moving through time, but it does. What this means is that the chair we find in a room, we can count on it being there tomorrow, because that chair has moved forward in time WITH US.
Think of it like a seasaw. Energy can go 100 percent into motion (in which case, the object is at light speed, and time stops); or it can go 100 percent into movement forward through time (in which case all motion stops); or any mixture of the two, as long as the proportions add up to 100 percent.
I’ve seen several respectable scientific articles on subatomic theory this past year, written by physicists, which say that mathematical calculations best describe our universe as something like thought forms. This sounds curiously like what Seth was saying in the 1970’s and 1980’s.
So my conclusion is that on the “other side” everything is accelerated to light speed. That means that time, as we know it here on Earth, does not really exist, but is an artificial construct which occurs in a heavy matter universe, such as ours. And yes, according to physicists, mathematical calculations show that other universes do exist. If all time exists at once, this is how people can be living different reincarnated, or parallel lifetimes, at once.

Obama will move even farther to the Right
Obama will move even farther to the Right in the General Election.
By the time we get to November he just might just look like next 97% President.
You know Bill looked a little too far left when he first ran for President.
Obama isn't any kind of Radical thinker now. With a little push to the right, he could become the Next Bill Clinton!!!

Obama is clearly a good Capitalist as well..
And Obama could well put together the coalition needed when the time comes to confront Iran.
France, Britain, and Germany are already on board, but Obama might put together the kind of alliance we had in the first Iraq War.
Once Iran slaps Obama's face a few times, he will understand the Iran Options just as Bush, Hillary, and Bill understand what comes next.
97% will celebrate
that Bush is out of office in 2009. Who cares where Obama is leaning? At least he speaks well and doesn't look and act like a dumb-ass.

Government wants personal details of every traveller
Passengers travelling between EU countries or taking domestic flights would have to hand over a mass of personal information, including their mobile phone numbers and credit card details, as part of a new package of security measures being demanded by the British government. The data would be stored for 13 years and used to "profile" suspects.
Brussels officials are already considering controversial anti-terror plans that would collect up to 19 pieces of information on every air passenger entering or leaving the EU. Under a controversial agreement reached last summer with the US department of homeland security, the EU already supplies the same information [19 pieces] to Washington for all passengers flying between Europe and the US.

Render justice to the Chagos islanders
It should come as no surprise that the nominally British island of Diego Garcia has been the scene of gross human rights abuses (Embarrassed Miliband admits two US rendition flights refuelled on British soil, February 22). In 1966 the government signed a covert agreement with the US to remove the 1,500 native Chagossians. Their pets were gassed and their possessions confiscated to cajole them into leaving for the Seychelles, where they were imprisoned, before being dumped on the docks in Mauritius. Denied their rightful British citizenship and reasonable compensation, they were reduced to abject poverty and a soaring mortality rate. This was so that the US could build an airbase named, ironically, Camp Justice. http://www.guardian.co.uk/theguardian/2008/feb/23/9

Will Ralph Nader save the 3% from Obama ????
A Third Time for the Third Wheel?
By Tobin Harshaw
Tags: Elections 2008, ralph nader
“Ralph Nader could be poised for another third party presidential campaign,” reports the Associated Press. “The consumer advocate will appear on NBC’s ‘Meet the Press’ on Sunday to announce whether he will launch another White House bid. Nader kicked off his 2004 presidential run on the show.”
Karin Klein at The Los Angeles Times’s Opinion L.A. blog, writes, “In 2000, Nader managed to garner 2.7 percent of the vote on the premise that there was no real difference between Al Gore and George W. Bush. Is he planning this time to argue that Clintama has essentially the same platform as John McCain? It would be interesting to hear the reasoning on that one.”
Well, Karin, here it is, straight from a Team Nader mass e-mail:
As you know, we’ve been exploring the possibilities in recent weeks.
And here’s one question that keeps coming up:
What’s been pulled off the table by the corporatized political machines in this momentous election year?
Answer:
Cutting the huge, bloated and wasteful military budget, adopting a single payer Canadian-style national health insurance system, impeaching Bush/Cheney, opposing nuclear power among many others.
Who will pick up these issues and put them back on the table?
Hope you get a chance to tune in to watch Ralph Nader this Sunday on “Meet the Press.”
Inch by inch we are moving YOU to the right.

Nader can be as Wild-eyed as Kucinich !!!
Could it be that the 3% won't have to come hat in hand to the Obama camp and ask to be accepted?
Could it be the 3% can run someone from the left fringe?
But then the 3% once again faces the choice, toss your vote into the rubbish and vote for Nader?
Or move to the 97% and vote for Obama?
Nader seems to think the left has lost it's representation once again. Of course he is correct. Nader is the 3rd party the 3% will never work to build.

The 97% love America just as Obama does. A vote for Obama is a step toward reconciliation with the Republican Party!
A vote for Obama is a vote for the great 97%!
Now even as we speak, there are those who are preparing to divide us -- the spin masters, the negative ad peddlers who embrace the politics of "anything goes." Well, I say to them tonight, there is not a liberal America and a conservative America -- there is the United States of America.

Nader poised for another run at the White House
By MARIA RECIO
McClatchy Newspapers
http://www.naderexplore08.org/
Four years after he announced a presidential run on NBC's "Meet the Press," Ralph Nader is poised to do it again.
He's scheduled to appear on the program Sunday, and longtime associates say they think the consumer advocate will announce his candidacy. Having abandoned the Green Party after being its nominee in 2000, he's more likely to run as an independent again, those familiar with his thinking said.
Kevin Zeese, Nader's 2004 campaign spokesman, who isn't involved in the 2008 exploratory efforts, said he thought that Nader was going to throw his hat in the ring again.
"If I had to guess, I'd say he's going to run, because the two parties are not bringing issues in a way that will help the people, but will help the corporations," Zeese said.

There's nothing funny about the prostitution of our political system to big corporations.
I sincerely hope that Ralph Nader will again run for president to provide a voice to those fed up with corporate power, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the $500 billion military budget, the criminal injustice system and racist war on drugs, and the enormous gaps between rich and poor in this country.
If he doesn't run, big business and their two-party system will be laughing all the way to the bank

Annals Of American History
The Water Cure
Debating torture and counterinsurgency—a century ago.
21/02/08 "New Yorker" --- Many Americans were puzzled by the news, in 1902, that United States soldiers were torturing Filipinos with water. The United States, throughout its emergence as a world power, had spoken the language of liberation, rescue, and freedom. This was the language that, when coupled with expanding military and commercial ambitions, had helped launch two very different wars. The first had been in 1898, against Spain, whose remaining empire was crumbling in the face of popular revolts in two of its colonies, Cuba and the Philippines. The brief campaign was pitched to the American public in terms of freedom and national honor (the U.S.S. Maine had blown up mysteriously in Havana Harbor), rather than of sugar and naval bases, and resulted in a formally independent Cuba.
The Americans were not done liberating. Rising trade in East Asia suggested to imperialists that the Philippines, Spain’s largest colony, might serve as an effective “stepping stone” to China’s markets. U.S. naval plans included provisions for an attack on the Spanish Navy in the event of war, and led to a decisive victory against the Spanish fleet at Manila Bay in May, 1898. Shortly afterward, Commodore George Dewey returned the exiled Filipino revolutionary Emilio Aguinaldo to the islands. Aguinaldo defeated Spanish forces on land, declared the Philippines independent in June, and organized a government led by the Philippine élite.
During the next half year, it became clear that American and Filipino visions for the islands’ future were at odds. U.S. forces seized Manila from Spain—keeping the army of their ostensible ally Aguinaldo from entering the city—and President William McKinley refused to
recognize Filipino claims to independence, pushing his negotiators to demand that Spain cede sovereignty over the islands to the United States, while talking about Filipinos’ need for “benevolent assimilation.” Aguinaldo and some of his advisers, who had been inspired by the United States as a model republic and had greeted its soldiers as liberators, became increasingly suspicious of American motivations. When, after a period of mounting tensions, a U.S. sentry fired on Filipino soldiers outside Manila in February, 1899, the second war erupted, just days before the Senate ratified a treaty with Spain securing American sovereignty over the islands in exchange for twenty million dollars. In the next three years, U.S. troops waged a war to “free” the islands’ population from the regime that Aguinaldo had established. The conflict cost the lives of hundreds of thousands of Filipinos and about four thousand U.S. soldiers.
Within the first year of the war, news of atrocities by U.S. forces—the torching of villages, the killing of prisoners—began to appear in American newspapers. Although the U.S. military censored outgoing cables, stories crossed the Pacific through the mail, which wasn’t censored. Soldiers, in their letters home, wrote about extreme violence against Filipinos, alongside complaints about the weather, the food, and their officers; and some of these letters were published in home-town newspapers. A letter by A. F. Miller, of the 32nd Volunteer Infantry Regiment, published in the Omaha World-Herald in May, 1900, told of how Miller’s unit uncovered hidden weapons by subjecting a prisoner to what he and others called the “water cure.” “Now, this is the way we give them the water cure,” he explained. “Lay them on their backs, a man standing on each hand and each foot, then put a round stick in the mouth and pour a pail of water in the mouth and nose, and if they don’t give up pour in another pail. They swell up like toads. I’ll tell you it is a terrible torture.”

Who is Ralph Nader? If you’ve ever been in a car accident, taken a prescription drug, breathed air, drunk a glass of water or dared to eat a hot dog, you may be alive because of this man. The health and safety standards Ralph Nader helped implement in the 1960s and ’70s have saved over a million lives and prevented countless injuries.
But when the Democratic Party took money from corporations and stopped fighting for democratic issues like affordable healthcare, repealing The Patriot Act, and ending the Iraq War...look out! The Pinstripe-Suited Crusader leapt into the 2004 presidential race as an Independent candidate to save the America people from the corporate overthrow of their government.
When the Democrats realized that having a slogan (“Anybody But Bush!”) and a wishy-washy pro-war candidate wasn’t enough to win the election, they spent millions of dollars hiring corporate law firms to kick Ralph Nader off the ballot in the most slanderous, dirtiest, undemocratic campaign in American history.
Follow Nader's campaign photographer and filmmaker, Jürgen Vsych, as she travels across America on Southwest Airlines with the avuncular agitator dismissed by the corporate-owned media as an egomaniacal “spoiler.” What Was Ralph Nader Thinking? Read this book and find out!

Ahmadinejad: US Should Apologize to Iran

Iran Atomic Plans in Question
TEHRAN, Iran (AP) - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called on the U.S. and its allies Saturday to "apologize" to Iran for accusing it of seeking nuclear weapons—a day after the U.N. nuclear watchdog released its latest report on Iran's atomic program.
Ahmadinejad said the report by the International Atomic Energy Agency vindicated Iran and warned that Tehran would take unspecified "reciprocal measures" against any country that imposed additional sanctions against Iran.
The IAEA report said several past questions about Iran's nuclear program had been resolved, but highlighted Tehran's continued refusal to halt uranium enrichment.
Ahmadinejad said in a televised address to the nation that the best way for the U.S. and its allies to "compensate for their mistakes" is to "apologize and pay compensation."

Meg: Congrats on your house offer. I echo whomever it was that suggested having the house thoroughly inspected by a reputable professional...on YOUR nickel! Then use that report as a basis for negotiating the final price.
When we bought our house in '83, the asking price was 120k. After presenting the owners w/ the inspection (was $350), we negotiated the price to 70k.
At present, it's a buyers' market. If the owners don't wanna negotiate, then move on in your search.
Good luck!

Clinton: Obama untested, just like Bush was
by Rick Pearson and updated
CINCINNATI — Democratic presidential contender Hillary Clinton lashed out at rival Barack Obama today for using a strategy out of “Karl Rove’s playbook” by making grandiose speeches of hope while sending Ohioans what she called “false and discredited mailings” on health care and trade policy.
“Shame on you Barack Obama,” Clinton told reporters after delivering a speech at Cincinnati Technical and Community College in which she reminded voters that in 2000, an untested George W. Bush called for change--just as Obama is now--and “the American people got shafted.”
Obama's campaign quickly responded, noting that Clinton's top spokesman, Howard Wolfson, once called one Democrat comparing another Democrat to George Bush as "the worst kind of tactical political maneuvering."
Clinton, facing increased pressure to do well in Ohio and Texas, two major March 4 primary states, to continue her campaign against the front-running Obama, sought to raise in voters minds an image of a Democratic contender using Republican tactics to win.
Clinton questioned whether he was trying to undermine core Democratic principles by attacking her plans to expand health care and through a mailing on the North American Free Trade Agreement.

Israeli forces arrested a senior activist in the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine's (PFLP) Martyr Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades in Beit Al-Ma'a, near Nablus.
Security sources in the city said that forces from the Israeli Army penetrated into Nablus and Al-Ain Camp and arrested Majdi Mabrouka, who has been wanted by Israeli security forces for three years.
The forces surrounded Mabrouka's home and blew up its entrance, injuring four Palestinians in the process, the sources added.
Meanwhile, Israeli forces executed an incursion into Tulkarem city and opened fire at Palestinian homes.

Talking Points Memo’s Polk Award a Major Step Forward
Not just any blogger, of course. Josh Marshall … of Talking Points Memo may have started back in 2000 as a kind of blogging stereotype, posting late at night from his small D.C. apartment and from the corner Starbucks and — in just two years — shining a light on the remarks that cost Sen. Trent Lott his GOP Senate leadership post, but he’s turned his operation into much, much more.
Since 2002 Marshall has moved to New York and — thanks to increasing ad revenue — made Talking Points Memo into a new kind of journalistic enterprise for the 21st Century, hiring a staff of a half dozen talented young journalists and rewriting the rules with a mix of commentary and original muckraking while highlighting the work of other to focus like a laser on the big political questions.

Power of Gratitude
Through quantum physics we now know that everything there is, is vibrational matter. All matter is energy made up of sub-atomic particles and atoms. Through this unified energy field, our thoughts resonate and project. Based on our feelings, emotions and thoughts, this determines our vibration frequency that is broadcast from us out into the universe. This is our own unique, vibrational signal. It is the personal signature that we resonate that is answered and returned to us. This is how the Law of Attraction works, plain and simple.

Clinton: Obama Mailings Are Deceptive
CINCINNATI — Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton said Saturday that a pair of mailings sent to voters by rival Barack Obama's campaign criticizing her health care plan and trade views are false, misleading and a betrayal of his pledge to practice a new style of politics.
"Shame on you, Barack Obama. It is time you ran a campaign consistent with your messages in public _ that's what I expect from you," Clinton said angrily, waving the mailings in the air.
"Meet me in Ohio, and let's have a debate about your tactics," she added.

MIAMI -- The Florida Marlins are looking for some footloose fat men. The National League team is creating an all-male, plus-size cheerleading squad to be dubbed the Manatees. Tryouts were scheduled for Sunday.
The team hopes to recruit seven to 10 tubby men to dance, cheer and jiggle during Friday and Saturday home games this season.
Real manatees, 1,200-pound mammals sometimes referred to as "sea cows," are not considered the most agile of creatures and often get caught in boat propellers.

I said this earlier and I will repeat though your post is probably accidental.
John McCain's arm limitations are a result of his shoot down in VN and subsequent torture. I don't think it will do our side any good making fun of this permanent condition received in service to this country.
I find it ironic in light of his recent flip flop on torture and I did not support the VN war but I think this should be off limits.

Afternoon Anette!
how goes the battle?
Mark this one, wingnuts...
...'cause I'm gonna repost it after the general to rub your whiny, flip-flopping li'l noses in it.
It amuses me -- greatly -- that most cons are gonna "hold their noses" & vote for the Pander Bear...the ones that show up, that is.
I inquire of every wingnut I meet: "You gonna vote for St. McCane?" The enthusiasm of their responses reminds me of someone who's compelled to attend a wake & funeral.
'Conservatism never fails; people fail conservatism.'
That'll be oh-so-true after Nov. 4th.
-----------------------------------------------
Looking For A Reason -- by digby
I know the MSM isn't particularly quick on the uptake, but this one is so obvious even they should be able to get it. I have been hearing for the past 24 hours how this NYT story has really been good for McCain because it finally brought the base back over to his side.
Can we get real here? The "base" meaning Rush, Fox and the lesser wingnut blowhards, were desperate for an excuse to get on board the Straight Talk Express. The man is the presidential nominee of the Republican Party, the electoral arm of the conservative movement. Did anyone really think their animosity for McCain was going to last through November? Please. They are all on wingnut welfare to one degree or another and there's no way in hell that they could continue to do their jobs in opposition to the Republican presidential nominee. It's ridiculous. I'm sure they all felt a huge sense of relief that they had finally found a hook to get back down to business, which is demeaning and destroying liberals on behalf of Republicans.
This is not to say that they won't blame McCain for being a heretic and turncoat to conservatism when he loses in November. Their lizard brain logic will be "The liberal Democrat won because McCain wasn't conservative enough." But in the meantime, they had to find a way to earn their paycheck, and now they have their hook.
What
What battle?

How many of you suckers want to privatize social security?
The 97% always wants what is theirs.
The 97% want to take home more of their paycheck.
The 97% want all the money they paid into Soc Sec.
So we do have problem.
As the old 97%ers sink thier teeth into Soc Sec they won't want to back off.
The young 97%ers are going to be taking home less of thier paychecks to carry the Old 97%ers.
The last time this was looked at in Congress the vote was to burn the candle at both ends.
Right now Soc Sec is driving down a dead end alley at 80 MPH.
Is this what I wanted - NO.
Is this the choice of Congress - Yes.
We are going to have to subject the young 97%ers to a great deal more pain before Soc Sec Tax Payer Revolt begins.
As for me. I will take the $4000.00 a month and use it for extra pocket cash. I thank Congress and the Young 97%ers!
It exposes the basic flaw in the Liberal mindset.
God Bless the Liberals and and I'll take hunderd dollar bills when I cash that check, thank you very much!

Fall Guy Barack Obama Ushered Into Presidency
by Hillary Lewinsky
USA - Barack Obama is being groomed to be the first black President of the United States of America. He is being instated to take the fall for George W Bush's disastrous tenure as President.
Barack Obama is set to be the first black (African American) President of the United States of America and 'fall guy' for the many years of destruction committed by George W Bush and his cronies on the US Constitution, economy, US world standing and internal affairs.
"George W Bush has ruined America and his perpetual wars of terror on the rest of the world have caused irreparable damage that may never be fixed - that's why we're bringing in this boy Obama to take the fall," a representative from the Pentagon told the Daily Squib on Friday.
The American people who have large daily doses of intense fear pumped into their homes constantly via the Fox News Network of Terror and other government controlled media outlets are all backing Obama 110%........
Crying Hillary Clinton Terrorises Supporters
by Vasquez Lewinsky
EL PASO - Texas - There was terror and panic in El Paso when Hillary Clinton shed a tear on the podium after multiple losses to Barack Obama.
Pandemonium and chaos was brought forth this week when democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton made herself cry again after multiple losses to Obama.
As she stepped onto the podium her supporters realised she was going to start crying again and that is when all hell broke loose. The election security detail tried to evacuate the area as quickly as they could, but the sheer panic was overwhelming.
"Hillary started to cry quite suddenly, and that's when everyone started to stampede. We know about her crocodile tears," a hapless Clinton supporter told the Daily Squib.
Hilary Clinton's tears have such a high acid ph value that they can burn through steel and pretty much any man made material. Some scientists have tried unsuccessfully to analyse the tears, but have not been able to because they burn through all the equipment.
"Hillary's tears are like the blood of the aliens from the movie 'Aliens' starring Sigourney Weaver. That stuff burns through anything and never stops. We have to be very careful when she flies or is on a boat so as not to make her cry," one of her campaign managers who recently quit told us..........

I Say Live Life To The Fullest In Terms Of Yearly Income Set Against Monthly Expenditures
By Joseph Reed
February 20, 2008 |
Each morning, I wake up with a smile on my face and a renewed sense of vigor, because this day is unlike any other, and it is full of potential. There's a phrase in
Latin that summarizes my philosophy of life: Carpe diem. Seize the day. While that may seem a little extreme to some, mark my words, it is a recipe for success. Provided you take into consideration the accelerated depreciation your assets will accrue over time, as marked by said day being seized.
Now I know that there are some naysayers out there who think that you can't be too careful, but I say throw caution to the wind! Life's too short not to make the most of every day. If making the most of every day means that you have to work Saturday to make sure you meet your fiduciary duties that have been established in advance, I say, live it up!...

They are now protected by a treaty of peace, which is only binding upon them so long as it may suit their convenience to recognise it. At present they are as free here as you or I; indeed, more so, when it comes to that. I wouldn’t wonder it we were to meet them at the fandango to-night.”
“I have heard that the Navajoes are cannibals.”

“Are you in earnest, Saint Vrain?”
“By my word, I am not jesting! If I mistake not, Gode’s experience will confirm what I have said. Eh, voyageur?”

“It is quite true; both Apaches and Navajoes carry off children from the valley, here, in their grand forays; and it is said by those who should know, that most of them are used in that way. Whether as a sacrifice to the fiery god Quetzalcoatl, or whether from a fondness for human flesh, no one has yet been able to determine. In fact, with all their propinquity to this place, there is little known about them. Few who have visited their towns have had Gode’s luck to get away again. No man of these parts ever ventures across the western Sierras.”

Election Madness By Howard
Election Madness
By Howard Zinn
Historically, government, whether in the hands of Republicans or Democrats, conservatives or liberals, has failed its responsibilities, until forced to by direct action: sit-ins and Freedom Rides for the rights of black people, strikes and boycotts for the rights of workers, mutinies and desertions of soldiers in order to stop a war. Voting is easy and marginally useful, but it is a poor substitute for democracy, which requires direct action by concerned citizens.

Wall Street Bank Run By
Wall Street Bank Run
By David Ignatius
Thursday, February 21, 2008; A15
It doesn't look like an old-fashioned bank run because it involves the biggest financial institutions trading paper assets so complicated that even top executives don't fully understand the transactions. But that's what it is -- a spreading fear among financial institutions that their brethren can't be trusted to honor their obligations.
Frightened financiers are pulling back from credit markets -- going on strike, if you will -- to escape the unraveling daisy chain of securitized assets and promissory notes that binds the global financial system. As each financier tries to protect against the next one's mistakes, the whole system begins to sag. That's what we're seeing now, as credit market troubles spread from bundles of subprime residential mortgages to bundles of other kinds of debt -- from student loans to retailers' receivables to municipal bonds.
Investors are nervous because they aren't sure how to value these bundles of securitized assets. So buyers stay away, prices fall further, and the damage spreads.
The public, fortunately, doesn't understand how bad the situation is. If it did, we might have a real panic on our hands. And there would be more pressure for bad policies -- ones that try to freeze the damage, rather than letting prices fall to levels where buyers will return and the markets will clear. Hillary Clinton's proposed moratorium on home foreclosures, in that respect, is one of the truly bad ideas of our time. It would make the situation worse by increasing even more the illiquidity and inflexibility of the housing market.
The answer to Wall Street's bank run may be a version of what saved Main Street banks during the Great Depression. President Franklin Roosevelt created the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation in 1933 to reassure the public that there was an insurer of last resort for the banks -- and that people's money was safe even if they couldn't see it or touch it or put it under a mattress. Rep. Barney Frank and other congressional experts are weighing different approaches to this problem of how to backstop the markets without Clinton's misguided moratorium.
These markets are now so complicated that most of us can't begin to understand the details. So I asked the chief financial officer of a leading concern to walk me through what has been happening. The problem, he said, is that financial institutions are required to "mark to market" their tradable assets (which is a fancy term for setting a value) even when there isn't a functioning market. In many cases dealers can do little more than guess at the value -- and other investors down the line know it.
To explain how this happened, the CFO took a simple example of residential mortgages. As financial engineering improved in the 1990s, these individual loans were gathered into bundles -- 10,000 home loans of $100,000 each, let's say -- and turned into a $1 billion security that could be traded in ways the individual mortgages never could. But that wasn't enough. The financiers realized they could boost their profits by carving the $1 billion package into different slices, with different risk levels. In that way, a pool of B-rated mortgage assets could generate a slice that was rated AAA, because it was judged the slice most likely to be repaid.

Thanks to AMERICAblog readers John W. and Meredith H. for sending this over. It's a long slide show and parts are NSFW due to language but this is an excellent summary of everything that's wrong about the subprime fiasco. There were obvious conflicts of interest at each and every step along the way and people heard what they wanted to hear. Deep commissions helped pave the way and our traditional oversight and regulations were MIA, because they didn't want to get in the way of the money train.
Think about that as we see Bernanke and the Fed recklessly throw more money at the banks at the expense of everyone else. It's shocking that Democrats had stood by and not challenged these actions. Unless everyone is happy with windfall profits (and then losses followed by bailouts) on Wall Street, we need a radical change in oversight policies. The Federal Reserve in it's current form has failed and continues to fail the American public.
