We're not live this Sunday because we're playing a Super Bowl Super Book Show, so there won't be a Meet the Press with Lil' Russ (NBC): Democrats Bob Shrum & James Carville and Republicans Mary Matalin & Mike Murphy. This Week with George Stepho (ABC) - Hillary Clinton and Mitt Romney! Face the Nation with soon-to-be-retired Bob Schieffer (CBS) - John McCain and Barack Obama! Fox News Sunday with whats-his-face with the face (FOX): John McCain and Hillary Clinton! (Will they wear the same outfits for two different interviews? I will hold my breath to find out!) CNN Late Edition, which we sometimes watch, if we feel up to it: Huckabee, Romney and Ralph "Harbinger of Doom" Nader. Enjoy! And tune in to Seder this Sunday for an awesome lineup-----> Hi Annette,...Submitted by Sir Real on Sat, 02/02/2008 - 12:15am.

As every dieter knows, a moment on the lips could spell a lifetime on the hips. But now the adage has been turned on its head, with the creation of a lip gloss that claims to help women lose weight. Sold under the slogan "Always on the lips. Never on the hips", Fuze Slenderize gloss is said to be oozing with ingredients that curb the appetite. If that weren't enough, the "guilt-free lip gloss" also claims to speed up the metabolism, while boosting energy levels. One of the key ingredients is SuperCitrimax, a plant extract said to keep hunger pangs at bay and stop the body turning carbohydrates into fat. Other contents include chromium, a mineral said to boost metabolism, and L-carnitine, an energy-giving amino acid. Similar ingredients are found in Fuze diet drinks, a range of low-calorie fruit juices reputed to be a favourite of actresses Katie Holmes and Jessica Simpson. Costing £9.50 a tube, the brightly-coloured gloss is made by Californian make-up company Too Faced and is available in three flavours. A spokesman for Too Faced said: "Application of this long-lasting, high-shine formula will actually help suppress one's appetite for food without sacrificing delicious glamour. "With a single swipe of the tube, Fuze Slenderize provides a pretty, plump pout with an added bonus of healthy, energy-boosting, appetite curbing ingredients. http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2008-01/31/content_7533459.htm Blast From The PastSubmitted by MMRules on Sat, 02/02/2008 - 1:17am.

German nudists can start their holidays early by stripping off on the plane if they take up a new offer from a German travel firm. Travel agency OssiUrlaub.de will start taking bookings from Friday for a trial nudist day trip. The trip from the eastern German town of Erfurt to the popular Baltic Sea resort of Usedom is planned for 5 July and will cost €499. Enrico Hess, Managing Director, says the high cost is due to the small size of the plane. 'There's no real reason why a flight in which one flies naked should be more expensive than any other', he added. The 55 passengers will have to remain clothed until they board, and dress before disembarking, he said. The crew will remain clothed throughout the flight for safety reasons. The idea came from a customer who spotted 'the unusual gap in the market.' Despite the oddness, Mr Hess is adamant that they are a perfectly normal holiday company. 'I don't want people to get the wrong idea. It's not that we're starting a swinger club in mid-air or something like that.' New York Times reporter subpoenaed; case involves Iran nuke progSubmitted by Catharine on Sat, 02/02/2008 - 1:32am.
February 1-3, 2008 -- New York Times reporter subpoenaed; case involves Iran nuke program The New York Times is reporting that one of its top national security investigative reporters, James Risen, was subpoenaed yesterday by a grand jury in Alexandria, Virginia's "rocket docket" US Federal Court to reveal his confidential sources about Iran's nuclear program. Risen has been ordered to appear before the grand jury on February 7. If Risen refuses to reveal his sources, he faces prison. In Risen's book, "State of War," he revealed that the CIA had, from the time of the Clinton administration, tried to infiltrate Iran's nuclear program but was not successful. WMR has recently received information from a former CIA source on how U.S. nuclear technology was smuggled to Iran via sources that have emerged as a result of recent disclosures in the Sunday Times of London from Sibel Edmonds, a former FBI Turkish and Farsi (Persian) translator. The CIA apparently uncovered a major illegal network that was stealing used but usable nuclear fuel rods in the United States and replacing them with dummy rods. The used rods, available on the international black market, made their way to various countries, including Iran, Libya, Pakistan, and Israel. The Turks and Pakistanis were used to provide cover for the illegal smuggling operation. In 2006, the Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta reported that Ukraine had failed to return to Russia 250 nuclear warheads and that some of the warheads may have ended up on the international nuclear black market, with some of the material ending up in Iran. Next big scandal?Submitted by pussyfoot on Sat, 02/02/2008 - 1:32am.
US Congressmen have discovered that the World Bank is using US-provided funds to insure two giant Thai firms which have bucked the trend and invested in a huge petrochemical project in Iran. The Thai companies are National Petrochemical Pcl, which is 38 per cent owned by state petroleum giant PTT - and Cementhai Chemicals Co Ltd, (CCC), a wholly owned subsidiary of Siam Cement. For the moment, the US State Department has declined to comment on the possible scandal. Washington has barred most investment in Iran by US companies, and has lobbied many countries hard to discourage business expansion in Teheran businesses. The MIGA guarantees has insured Cementhai Chemicals, National Petrochemical and Itocho Corporation of Japan against the risk of "war and civil disturbance," and any potential breach of contract by the government of Iran. The MIGA has issued $122.2 million in guarantee coverage for the three Thai and Japanese firms - even though their total investment in state-owned Mehr Petrochemical of Iran amounts to just $42.8 million. The Japanese firm also has provided the Iranian company with a $96 million shareholder loan, underwritten by MIGA. The Iranian petrochemical projects and Thai participation were already well known. The Bangkok Post reported extensively on the Thai investments last June. (To read the archived story, click here.) But the deal could snowball into a scandal now that congressmen have decided to make the World Bank involvement a major story in the United States. The US is by far the largest financier behind the World Bank. http://www.bangkokpost.com/topstories/topstories.php?id=125648 New York Times reporter subpoenaed; case involves Iran nuke progSubmitted by Catharine on Sat, 02/02/2008 - 1:34am.
WMR has learned that many of the used nuclear rods made their way from the United States to Israel to be used for weapons grade nuclear fuel reprocessing. Israel's stockpile of fuel is aging and it apparently cannot be replaced internally. Israel's reactor at Dimona in the Negev, according to WMR sources, suffered a cooling failure and without a working reactor the Israelis were forced to procure new fueling rods externally. Israel, therefore, made covert deals with the international nuclear smuggling operation operating via Turkey and Pakistan and involving members of the "Red Mafia" -- the Russian-Israeli mafia and the very same network that benefited Iran. Former Israeli nuclear scientist Mordechai Vanunu, a Jewish covert to Christianity who has tried in vain to leave Israel only to be repeatedly jailed and placed under house arrest, reported that in 1986, weapons grade plutonium at Dimona was being produced at a rate of 40 kilograms per year. Vanunu reported that Israel uses 4 kilograms of plutonium per weapon. Israel is believed to possess over 400 nuclear and thermonuclear weapons. The power required by the Dimona reactor would have had to be at least 150 megawatts, twice its specifications in 1970. Observers believe that the Israelis built a larger cooling system for the reactor to permit greater nuclear fuel production. However, the cooling system, perhaps overtaxed, failed and forced Israel to seek its nuclear fuel elsewhere. Part of the reason for Israel's insistence on attacking Iran's nuclear weapons facilities is because it knows, from its own involvement in the nuclear smuggling ring, the type of nuclear materials that were shipped to Iran. //Musta been for charities...//Submitted by Sir Real on Sat, 02/02/2008 - 1:34am.

TPI Composites Inc. is building a new plant there as the energy industry aims for a cleaner, more sustainable future. With proper incentives, thousands of "green-collar jobs" could be created, from ethanol production to wind turbines and solar panels, and all the maintenance and construction to support them, industry officials said. TPI used to build boats, but switched to turbines in 2001 for the "major growth opportunity," said Steve Lockard, CEO of the Phoenix, Ariz.-based company. The idea, he said, is to "transform the workforce away from the Maytag-type jobs of the past into jobs that can withstand the test of time going forward." However, advocates and executives say training is key to making sure the industry has enough skilled workers to make it into a real economic engine, and are pushing for more lucrative tax breaks, much like oil companies already receive, to make it profitable. http://sg.news.yahoo.com/ap/20080202/tbs-green-collar-jobs-f8250da.html eya PennyLaneSubmitted by Sunshine Jim on Sat, 02/02/2008 - 1:43am.

should bring to the whitehouse? Poland Says It Has Agreed to US ShieldSubmitted by pussyfoot on Sat, 02/02/2008 - 1:46am.
WASHINGTON - Poland said Friday it has reached an agreement in principle with the United States on plans to install a missile defense system on Polish territory. Polish Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski says that after meetings with U.S. officials, he is satisfied that the United States will deal with security problems that Poland wanted addressed as part of an eventual deal. The announcement should add momentum to a project the Bush administration has said it hopes to start building this year. The project, a major source of tension with Russia, had looked stalled since the Polish government of Donald Tusk sought new demands after taking office in November. Sikorski did not outline the terms of the deal, but in a joint appearance with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice after a working lunch, the two officials suggested that the U.S. would help with Polish air defenses, as Poland had sought. "We understand that there is a desire for defense modernization in Poland, and particularly for air defense modernization in Poland," Rice said. "This is something that we support because it will make our ally, Poland, more capable, it will make Poland, as the foreign minister has said, more able to operate with us." Sikorski said that negotiators would continue to work on the details of an agreement that would allow the U.S. to install 10 interceptors as part of a long- range European missile defense system. "We are not at the end of the road as regards negotiations. We are in the middle of the road," he said. Submitted by Annette on Sat, 02/02/2008 - 12:22am. Open question for the blog - I saw this editorial cartoon today of Ted Kennedy with Barack Obama as his handpuppet, saying "enjoy the view, Obama." Obama to me seems to be a fairly independent spirit; is there any perception that he would be anyone's puppet? With Edwards, and for that matter, Kucinich out of race, I am very ambivalent about our choices. Let me be clear I will vote for Obama, and yes, Clinton if either is the Democratic nominee. As for the primary, I have a dilemma: Do I vote for Obama who is vague on the issues, but is "visionary and charismatic?" And he has clearly brought the people to the polls, although the caucases and primaries thus far have been open allowing for crossovers, but the numbers don't lie. Since the "Audacity of Hope" is out in paperback, I'll buy and read it this weekend. I was watching C-Span and happened upon Shelby Steele talking about his book, "A Bound Man" his commentary about why Obama won't win. I'll read that too. I worry about Obama's association with Joe Lieberman whom Obama considers a mentor. But I was reading that on the basis of is voting record in 2007, he could be considered the most liberal senator. On Tuesday, when Sam was talking about Obama being groomed by the party for the presidency, I IMed Sam and asked is Obama the Manchurian candidate to which Sam responded 'in which way?' And that is the point, I don't know the answer to that. Do I vote for Clinton? She is confident and strong, and experienced. She has not been serving "cookies" while Bill has been in office. I have met both Bill and her. While Bill is very charismatic and personable, I can tell you she is a take charge, "get it done" person and can be a bit overbearing. I have read her book, "It Takes A Village." She has also been involved in the Children Defense Fund. So I believe she does have a heart and does care. I just wish she sat out for 4-8 years to let the people who blindly hate her cool (or die) off. Because of that polarization, she could bring out those people we don't want to go the polls. That, and the Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton bothers me. What I liked about Edwards was that he cared and had his feet on the ground helping disenfranchised/powerless people. He was making us see reality for what it is, and giving us hope and a plan to make it better. (That person who wrote that "crap" article obviously knew nothing about Edwards or his background and was just making superficial commentary.) His policies and plans were pragmatic but visionary. But best of all, Edwards has courage to pursue justice. That's where I am--disappointed with a long reading list. The New York City public school system -- the nation's largest with 1.1 million students -- pulled all hamburgers from its menus. School districts in at least 11 states have stopped using ground beef from Hallmark Meat Packing Co. and its associated Westland Meat Co. until a federal investigation is complete. Inspectors were at the packing plant on Friday, USDA spokeswoman Angela Harless said. No illnesses linked to the beef have been reported. Jack in the Box, which has restaurants in 18 states, told its meat suppliers not to use Hallmark until further notice, spokeswoman Kathleen Anthony said. "We definitely have very strict animal welfare guidelines that we expect our suppliers to follow," she said. The San Diego-based company does not purchase meat directly from slaughterhouses, so it was unclear whether it had used any Hallmark meat, she said. In-N-Out, an Irvine-based chain, also halted use of the beef, saying it would never condone the inhumane treatment of animals. In the first counterterrorism strategy of its kind in the nation, roving teams of New York City police officers armed with automatic rifles and accompanied by bomb-sniffing dogs will patrol the city’s subway system daily, beginning next month, officials said on Friday. Under a tactical plan called Operation Torch, the officers will board trains and patrol platforms, focusing on sites like Pennsylvania Station, Herald Square, Columbus Circle, Rockefeller Center and Times Square in Manhattan, and Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn. Officials said the operation would begin in March. Financing for the program will be funneled to the Police Department and will come from a pool of up to $30 million taken from $153.2 million in new federal transit grants to the state. Michael Chertoff, the secretary of homeland security, and Gov. Eliot Spitzer announced the grants at a news conference on Friday at Grand Central Terminal, where Police Commissioner Raymond W. LA Times: Swing Time in California? Independents could determine the winner of the state Democratic primary – if they manage to cast their ballots. In California, the modified closed primary means that parties decide whether unaffiliated voters participate. In a rare display of unity, the Greens, Libertarians, Peace and Freedom Party and GOP all restricted their primaries to registered members. So independents can choose to vote for a Democratic candidate or for one of the three contenders from the American Independent Party, including one who calls himself Mad Max. Many pundits are predicting that this less predictable group of voters could sway the primary. But Democratic officials figure that would happen only in a tight contest. In the 2004 primary, independents cast only about 207,000 votes for Democratic candidates, less than 7% of the total. Not surprisingly, Democratic candidates are dialing like crazy for “decline-to-states,” as independents are known in the trade. Nearly 1 in 5 Californians fits that description. But it takes more than a phone call from a Democratic volunteer to take action. Independents have to know how to get their hands on the right ballot. Absentee voters had to call or write their registrar to request the ballot they wanted. If you’re heading to the polls, just ask the poll workers for your choice of ballot—provided your choice is Democratic or American Independent. ...thank goodness the Democrats don't have my phone number... I had to pick up and deliver my own ballot from the election office...they made some 'slip up' and my P&F ballot would have never gotten to me if I hadn't called them to find out if it was on the way since I was forced to declare a party.... Poll: Al Franken Ahead In Minnesota Senate Race!
By Eric Kleefeld - February 1, 2008, 10:30AM
We're taking a step back from our focus on presidential race coverage to bring this piece of news: For the first time ever, Al Franken is ahead of Sen. Norm Coleman (R-MN) in an opinion poll.
The survey conducted by the University of Minnesota puts Franken at 43% to Coleman's 40%, hardly a good sign for the incumbent. Previous polls all gave Coleman the lead, initially a wide one when Franken declared, but eventually a much narrower one.

Wisconsin Senate Votes to
Wisconsin Senate Votes to Reimburse Prosecuted Aide
By Paul Kiel - February 1, 2008, 4:21PM
Continued fallout from the U.S. attorneys scandal. From The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel:
The state Senate on Thursday unanimously approved the payment of legal fees for Georgia Thompson, a state employee whose conviction for mishandling a contract was overturned by a federal appeals court....
Senators voted 32-0 to pay $228,793 for Thompson's legal fees; the bill now goes to the Assembly, where it is expected to pass. There was no debate on the bill, but Sen. Judy Robson (D-Beloit) said it was the "least we can do" for Thompson, who served time in a federal prison before the appeals judges ordered her released.
Of course, the appeals court's decision to immediately overturn the case was remarkable in itself. But here you have a state legislature working to redress the wrongs of a federal prosecutor. Has this ever happened before? It strikes me as a rather unique situation.
And remember that efforts by Congress to investigate the Justice Department's handling of the case -- in addition to other possible cases of selective prosecution -- have been firmly rebuffed (with the exception of the disclosure of one telling email).

"Hello to our friends and fans in domestic surveillance."
I think this article is crap:
The Edwards Campaign: What Went Wrong?
I suspect the critical failing in the Edwards campaign was the way they framed their message. In their frame, America was divided into a small elite of winners and a vast populace of losers. Now it was time for the losers to fight back and even the score.
That frame was a huge gamble. It depended on voters seeing themselves not just as ordinary little guys but as losers: insignificant forgotten people, pushed to the margins of society, neglected by the people who really matter.
That’s too bitter a pill for most Americans to swallow. Although most do worry about the future and blame the rich, a majority also tell the pollsters that right now they are not doing too badly financially. They have enough to sustain the time-honored American faith that we are all — at least most of us — middle class. More importantly, they cling to another time-honored faith: Through their hard work, they will raise children who will do even better. To label themselves losers would be to label their children losers, and that’s just going too far.
Most Americans did not want to believe Edwards was speaking about them. So what they heard was a message about reaching out to help somebody else: the real losers, the poor. It would be a grand and glorious nation if candidates could win elections by saying, “Let’s all us middle class folks reach down to pull the poor out of poverty.” Maybe some day we’ll reach that point. But we are nowhere near there yet, as John Edwards found out the hard way.
http://www.commondreams.org/archive/2008/02/01/6774/
John Edwards, a rich white guy, had the misfortune of running against two symbols of the downtrodden; in a party that purports to defend the downtrodden. He couldn't overcome that symbolism, because, despite the reality of his message, he wasn't the right messenger. Now we are left with two canidates who are probably little more than symbols.

Larry Abrams
Why We Will Miss John Edwards
John Edwards was a flawed candidate and the media made sure to tell us all about his flaws from the very beginning. He was vain and liked expensive haircuts. He was an opportunistic rich guy, who, even though he talked about poverty and class, was building the biggest house in North Carolina.
He was supposedly a late convert to his class based populism and had voted as a Southern moderate in the Senate. He was ambitious and wanted to run for President from the time he first campaigned for the Senate in North Carolina.
I don't know John Edwards but I can see there's probably some truth in these charges. Personally though, the reason I will miss John Edwards in this race is simply because now I don't have anyone to vote for.
What was different about Edwards was that he was running against the system, whereas Hillary IS the system and Obama would like to be. Edwards took strong stands early that became progressively stronger as the campaign wore on.
Edwards made clear that the Insurance companies were the reason we didn't have Universal Health Care and that they would have to be beaten to get it. He asserted that the system in Washington was rigged by corporate power to protect corporate interests.
Edwards made clear that the interests of Wall Street were not the interests of Main Street; that fairness to the tax code had to be restored; that every trade deal had to put workers and wages first.
Edwards proposed Public Financing of political campaigns. He asserted that the corporate lobbyists would have to be driven from the halls of the Capitol if we were to have a chance at real change, but noted that real change also demanded "corporate power be put at the service of democracy and not the other way around."
Edwards proposed capping greenhouse gases and "ratcheting down the cap every year" if we were to have a chance at stopping global warming. He was honest enough to say upfront that sacrifice was going to be required from all of us if we were stop ecological disaster, but also that the bottom line on Wall Street was going to have to be weighed against a standard of sound environmental practice and policy.
These were pretty radical positions, but the way Hillary and Obama ended up mimicking many of them you wouldn't have known that one candidate was running against the system and the other two were running to be in charge of it.
However this was supposed to be a change election. It was important for Hillary and Obama that Edwards not outflank them on the Left by too much lest he be identified as the REAL candidate of change. So rather than a verb, change became, in this election, first a noun, and then a commodity.
It was so disgusting to watch -- and so effective -- that we should probably count on this kind of Hillary-Obama newspeak becoming a feature of future Democratic primary campaigns from now on.
In fairness to Hillary-Obama, it is also possible that Edwards did not mean to get so far ahead of himself, that he would have preferred to situate himself closer to the political center. It is possible that Edwards was actually forced to the hard populist positions he ended up embracing by the soft center-left focus of the other two campaigns.
It is possible, but nevertheless the fact remains that Edwards went there and the other campaigns were dragged far beyond their consultant driven comfort zone because of it.

E. Coli Bacteria: A Future
E. Coli Bacteria: A Future Source Of Energy?
ScienceDaily (Jan. 31, 2008) — For most people, the name "E. coli" is synonymous with food poisoning and product recalls, but a professor in Texas A&M University's chemical engineering department envisions the bacteria as a future source of energy, helping to power our cars, homes and more.
By genetically modifying the bacteria, Thomas Wood, a professor in the Artie McFerrin Department of Chemical Engineering, has "tweaked" a strain of E. coli so that it produces substantial amounts of hydrogen. Specifically, Wood's strain produces 140 times more hydrogen than is created in a naturally occurring process, according to an article in "Microbial Biotechnology," detailing his research.
Though Wood acknowledges that there is still much work to be done before his research translates into any kind of commercial application, his initial success could prove to be a significant stepping stone on the path to the hydrogen-based economy that many believe is in this country's future.
Renewable, clean and efficient, hydrogen is the key ingredient in fuel-cell technology, which has the potential to power everything from portable electronics to automobiles and even entire power plants. Today, most of the hydrogen produced globally is created by a process known as "cracking water" through which hydrogen is separated from the oxygen. But the process is expensive and requires vast amounts of energy -- one of the chief reasons why the technology has yet to catch on.
Wood's work with E. coli could change that.

When will it ever end? Much like the previous attempts by the banks to bail themselves out or have tax payers bail them out for their own stupidity, now the bond insurers who helped prop up the subprime bubble are in talks with the banks (yes, many of the same who bought and sold the junk) to prop up the bond insurers. Sounds easy and straightforward, doesn't it?
When common sense and facts disappear from the business model, there is a problem. This market stopped making sense a few years ago but was clouded by the billions in profits that were being dragged in by everyone. It really would have helped back then to have an SEC who cared or a Fed chief who knew how to speak out. To think McCain actually thinks Greenspan is a genius. Heaven forbid...

I cut out before responding to yer reply about the two Dems takin' the high road/not throwin' any sharp elbows.
Don't wanna hunt yer reply up, but I disagree, fwiw.
Yes, it's true that their pollers (or whomever) prolly tolt both candidates that their stridency didn't go over well (Edwards seen as the grown-up by contrast, etc.), which is all akrit so far's it goes.
But don't think none of that matters.
My point were that if Obama warn't (pardon the word) surging, and were trailing by the pre-SC polling numbers (double digits, sometimes as high as 20 points or more), my point is you can bet yer ass Obama woulda been purty disagreeable.
I agree that the candidates were aware of the perception that their mutual pissiness in the previous debate was seen as a neg, but if a candidate trails, badly, his (or her) only hope is to go on the attack.
Obama's surge in the polls/public opinion countervailed (imo) the risk of fucking that up by going on the offensive, which he woulda done if he hadn't a been surging.
Perhaps that's a muddle, but that were my point.

But:

Yep. I agree. But that ain't the case. I view this stuff as pragmatically as the participants do.
The best bet (as seems to be the after-the-fact consensus) was to make nice in the recent debate if not at the whistle stops. Many of the pro-Obama and pro-Clinton faithful are all-atwitter with the teaser of a conjoined ticket. (I agree with them. I also believe that it is an unbeatable combination.)
Further, the contrast between Republican candidates' acrimony and Democratic candidates' conviviality seems to be playing well across the board.
The electorate is shit-full of petty personal attacks. Even though Obama and Clinton are playing the game as much as ever, the electorate (generally) perceives their agreement and agreeableness to be the result of two different camps drawing the same policy conclusions.
The Republican candidates are still all over the map trying to find a way to appeal to the disparate Right one-issue folks (most of whom are "anti" something-or-other instead of "pro" something-or-other...which makes for a negative platform...which foments being pissed-off...which is not a warm and fuzzy feeling...which is exactly what a conciliatory Clinton/Obama demeanor projects).

115 - Blasting The Right Basics: Countering Five Pervasive Right-Wing Falsehoods
Today, a really big change of pace. You'll be treated not to one subject in depth, or even two topics with extended segments. No, today I have 5 QuickBlasts for you, in the areas of foreign policy, taxation, regulation of business and health care. Let's get right into it.Sometimes you don't need long permutations and combinations of an issue, you just need a solid fact or two to whack a right-winger upside the head -- intellectually, not physically of course -- so as to get their attention, and maybe knock some sense into them, penetrate that thick wall of denial and unreality that so many right-wingers have surrounding their brains.Sometimes less is more. This will be like a short, intense 5 round fight. In one corner, progressive truth. In the other corner, right-wing distortions, half-truths and outright lies you currently hear bandied about on the corporate media. Are you ready to rumble? The fight card:Round 1: Right-wing lies about why we went to war in IraqRound 2: The Republican claim that Democrats don't support the troops, and that the military community is behind President BushRound 3: Another campaign lie: Democrats want to raise your taxesRound 4: Nonsensical right-wing policy position: there's too much government regulation of businessRound 5: Another nonsensical right-wing policy claim: we already have the best health care system in the worldIf you want to see the right-wing get knocked silly, if not knocked out completely, just listen to the podcast.(PS: Right-wingers, if you want to write in to me, fine, but at least do me the courtesy of listening to the podcast first. Please don't respond just on the basis of the brief preview above. Thanks!!)Programming note: Until February, there will most likely not be live shows on alternate weeks.

You are a marvel, POTDog.
Have you been paying attention? At all? For the last forty years or so?
Newsflash, Wado: *No one* -- not Hillary, not Obama -- is going to "deliver" the South for the Democrats. At best, Dems might pick up a state or two in the South.
(Unless, I should mention, Obama is the top of the ticket, in which case I can see many hard-core conservatives and evangelicals sitting home on election day -- b/c of disgust w/the "liberal" (to pants-pissing conservatives) McMania -- and Obama drawing many, many young people and minorities and people who ordinarily don't vote inna massive ass-whuppin'.)
Democrats could run Jefferson-fuckin'-Davis onna ticket w/Robert E.
"like Colin Powell, life presented a tough choice 'n I chose wrong"Lee and wouldn't break the ressentiment of the solid fucking South.Pretending about which Dem needs to "worry" about the South is yet more evidence of either yer stupidity or yer dishonesty.
Tho', in all fairness -- to lean on this caveat once more -- it could easy be both.

Pretending about which Dem needs to "worry" about the South
Bill Clinton won enough of the south to make victory easy. Gore and Kerry did not. Hillary most likely is not Bill Clinton. Bill is not running. Hillary needs more help because she needs one more state. Gore lost his home state! Then came up one short. Obama delivers nothing in the South.

I think that a Clinton/Obama or Obama/Clinton ticket would win. However, I don't think that either Clinton or Obama absolutely needs the other one on the ticket.
I will say that the "winner" needs to get the endorsement of the other one (and his/her political posse of supporters).
I think that a Clinton/Obama ticket is more likely to happen.
I believe that Obama or Clinton can win now -- based on the number of people voting for the Democrats in the primaries and caucuses (along with the revealing demographics and statistics).
Additionally, I wonder what kind of deal that the Clinton camp might make with John Edwards. Would Edwards accept a position in a Clinton administration? Would Clinton ask Edwards to be on the ticket (if Clinton wins)?
I believe that Clinton or Obama will be the next president.

If I were you and thought Sam was wrong, I would drop him and email and let him know where he is going wrong with his blog.
but it isn't that big of a deal.
That's what I was thinking..
Thanks Chubbs..
Chubbs..How's life going ?Good I hope !
"Hello to our friends and fans in domestic surveillance."
Ah the newy new niceness of a new machine.. :)
cool...
What do you mean computer kit? One you put together yourself it sounds like? My 2nd or 3rd desktop in the 90's I had a clone box with clone parts and it was a very reliable machine for a long time...Is that what it is, a put together kit computer? Was it less than 1,000 or more?

The Merchant-what is his "due occasion" of death?
It is the main question for the merchant, as for all of us.
For, truly, the man who does not know when to die, does not know
how to live.

The Roots of Honour
Among the delusions which at different periods have possessed
themselves of the minds of large masses of the human race,
perhaps the most curious -- certainly the least creditable -- is
the modern soi-disant science of political economy, based on the
idea that an advantageous code of social action may be determined
irrespectively of the influence of social affection.
Of course, as in the instances of alchemy, astrology,
witchcraft, and other such popular creeds, political economy, has
a plausible idea at the root of it. "The social affections," says
the economist, "are accidental and disturbing elements in human
nature; but avarice and the desire of progress are constant
elements. Let us eliminate the inconstants, and, considering the
human being merely as a covetous machine, examine by what laws of
labour, purchase, and sale, the greatest accumulative result in
wealth is obtainable. Those laws once determined, it will be for
each individual afterwards to introduce as much of the disturbing
affectionate element as he chooses, and to determine for himself
the result on the new conditions supposed."
This would be a perfectly logical and successful method of
analysis, if the accidentals afterwards to be introduced were of
the same nature as the powers first examined. Supposing a body in
motion to be influenced by constant and inconstant forces, it is
usually the simplest way of examining its course to trace it
first under the persistent conditions, and afterwards introduce
the causes of variation. But the disturbing elements in the
social problem are not of the same nature as the constant ones:
they alter the essence of the creature under examination the
moment they are added; they operate, not mathematically, but
chemically, introducing conditions which render all our previous
knowledge unavailable. We made learned experiments upon pure
nitrogen, and have convinced ourselves that it is a very
manageable gas: but, behold! the thing which we have practically
to deal with is its chloride; and this, the moment we touch it on
our established principles, sends us and our apparatus through the
ceiling.
On Bill Moyers Journal - The Case of Lurita Doan and the GSA
http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/blog/2008/02/the_curious_case_of_lurit...
You may have been familiar with the scrutiny of Blackwater¹s mercenary army, or followed the troubles with oversight at the State Department, but chances are you hadn¹t heard of Lurita Doan. She isn¹t exactly a household name. So it might be surprising that, as head of the General Services Administration, Doan oversees $500 billion dollars worth of federal assets.
capitol
On the JOURNAL, Rep.Henry Waxman explains how an investigation that started with leaks about possible favoritism in awarding government contracts eventually uncovered documents and testimony that convinced Waxman that Doan had violated the Hatch Act, a law prohibiting federal employees from using government resources for partisan purposes. Waxman was so shocked by what the Committee found that he took the unusual step of asking Doan to resign at the end of the hearings. The Office of Special Counsel, which conducted a separate investigation of Doan, concluded that Doan should be "disciplined to the fullest extent for her serious violation of the Hatch Act and insensitivity to cooperating fully and honestly in the course of our investigation." Yet today Doan still heads the GSA.

That's pretty stupid. Doesn't an airbag deployment happen
because there is a person in the seat? Or does it go off even when no one is in the seat?
interesting geometrical figures with death's-head and humeri
Observe, I neither impugn nor doubt the conclusion of the
science if its terms are accepted. I am simply uninterested in
them, as I should be in those of a science of gymnastics which
assumed that men had no skeletons. It might be shown, on that
supposition, that it would be advantageous to roll the students
up into pellets, flatten them into cakes, or stretch them into
cables; and that when these results were effected, the
re-insertion of the skeleton would be attended with various
inconveniences to their constitution. The reasoning might be
admirable, the conclusions true, and the science deficient only
in applicability. Modern political economy stands on a precisely
similar basis. Assuming, not that the human being has no
skeleton, but that it is all skeleton, it founds an ossifiant
theory of progress on this negation of a soul; and having shown
the utmost that may be made of bones, and constructed a number of
interesting geometrical figures with death's-head and humeri,
successfully proves the inconvenience of the reappearance of a
soul among these corpuscular structures. I do not deny the truth
of this theory: I simply deny its applicability to the present
phase of the world. - John Ruskin, "Essays from the Cornhill Magazine" 1860, reprinted as "Unto This Last" in 1862

Does Crank Bait belong to either the Obama or Clinton posse?
---------
I am giddy with the prospect of either candidate gaining the Oval Office.
The political game is superficial at best. The pre-election promises ignore in-office political reality.
I (and we) have only our intuition and our studious recognitions pf past political actions and words to guide us. I don't care about stray blow jobs and divorces and trophy wives (except as factors in political electability/credibility analyses). In my opinion Larry Flint has fought fights based on morality and ethics, so you can't judge a book by its starred and striped diaper.
I have no idea if President Obama, five years hence, would have expemplary approval ratings. Similarly, I don't know if President Hillary, five years hence, would be the next best thing to vanilla ice cream. There are too many variables, too many people, and too much time between now and then.

what is it about Sam's show that you like??
I never have seen you write about anything Sam has had on any of his shows.
How did you like last Sundays show?? Or Tuesday show???
Think about it...
I think this article is crap:

it sure is. so is the one that says edwards just couldn't compete against the rock star status of a obama and clinton.
lets face it, edwards scared the shit out of the corporatists and without any laws or regulations to stop it, they shut down any news about his campaign and then instructed their talking heads to say it was all about a $400 haircut.
...and it didn't take much--they used an open mic on Howard Dean and a running camera on John Edwards, and the American people went merrily along with it.
Penny_Lane ....
Or does it go off even when no one is in the seat?
It does go off even when there is no one in the seat.

Hmmm ... kinda weird those two together.

this ols machine is a pentium II and is fine for websurfing but it takles forever to do a back up.
I can't wait to see how much faster this new one will be...
Yeah ladies

Oh then I can maybe see why they didn't see her if she were hidden under it...I guess...she'd have to be pretty damn small though, no?
JFK picture
I found this picture on the web today. I wasn't even born in the 60's, and seeing this beautiful man and knowing how he died, I feel such a profound loss...
>>she'd have to be pretty damn small though, no?
my Mom is pushing 90 and she fits neatly under a cocktail napkin.

I saw that car on the local news after that story came out .... pretty bad crash ... looked like she must have slipped down under the steering wheel and the car was collapsed over her.
Tuesday show???
The last SEDER v MARON was a sad mess. You should read the blog. I told Sam he should have a production company call 3% Video Productions.
Maron is a mess, how much does it cost to bring out a pro and set up a proper connection? It never ends.
Sam on the other hand is saint to put up with all that he does to keep that side-show afloat.
Sam needs every listener he can get.
-she fits neatly under a cocktail napkin.-
HAHAHAHAHA! :)
JFK funeral
This one got me. What a loved man when, think about it, people care to know who Caroline would endorse, and she's never been involved in politics. It's purely because of who her father is and how he was cared about by America.
Yeah, dada...
do tell!
I noticed Sir Real dropped by - well, I haven't been in much - too damn busy - but I hadn't seen a SR special open mic in awhile.
But I post about reality.
Unlike some I am not afraid to make predictions and let the chip fall where they may. I have my own ideas about how the country should be run. I support candidates who's views agree with mine regardless of party.

Jim Brown, Bill Belichek, and Bill Clinton gave speeches.
And there was a special DVD speech given by basketball great, Bill Russell.
Rumors are there may be a bootleg videotape of Clinton.
