Conservative Capitalism

MYRTLE BEACH, South Carolina (CNN) — CNN has learned that top staff members of Rudy Giuliani's presidential campaign were asked to work without pay for the month of January, and perhaps longer, so that campaign resources could be focused on the Florida Republican presidential primary.

Two sources in the campaign, speaking on condition of anonymity, insisted the campaign was not in dire financial straits. A third campaign source, however, said "things are starting to get tight" and that "it was more telling than asking" the senior staff to forgo paychecks beginning the first of the year.

Another source disagreed, saying it was a "voluntary" move by senior staff members "so all of our resources could be targeted toward Florida…Our campaign is not living hand to mouth right now…"

Morning gang!

Here's what's up at the Dragon house.....I had to go to the dentist

yesterday to get a crown put on a tooth. They put a temp tooth on until

the crown is made. In the middle of the night, the temp fell off. My

dentist is off on a three day weekend and his office staff is trying to

figure out what to do to get a new temp on this ground down tooth that is

hurting like hell. How will this silly saga end? Stay tuned.

BAGHDAD - After weathering nearly five years of war, Baghdad residents thought they'd pretty much seen it all. But Friday morning, as muezzins were calling the faithful to prayer, the people here awoke to something certifiably new.

Although the white flakes quickly dissolved into gray puddles, they brought an emotion rarely expressed in this desert capital snarled by army checkpoints, divided by concrete walls and ravaged by sectarian killings — delight......

RON PAUL SUPPORTERS, obviously

The Ron Paul “Revolution” an Extreme Rightist Threat

http://www.atlanticfreepress.com/content/view/3217/81/

by Steven Argue

At the root of the Ron Paul "revolution" is the dismantling of Social Security and the Department of Education as well as other basic social programs, and the elimination of worker and environmental protections. Advances like single payer health care? No way. Ron Paul's message is that you need to take care of yourself, and that there shouldn't be such government programs, nor such interference with private profit. While he puts forward reasons for not supporting going to war abroad, his domestic policies would ignite civil war at home.

In addition to pretending he's against all government, he's for outlawing:

- abortion and supports the continued ban on same-sex marriage.
- He was one of the original co-sponsors of the "Marriage Protection Act".
- He's also a religious extremist who thinks that creationism should be taught in the schools.

How "libertarian" are any of these positions? "Liberty" does not include such intimate issues as reproductive choice, not having the government choose who you can be life-partners with & freedom from religion in public schools.

On race, Ron Paul was one of 33 Congress members to vote against the renewal of the voting rights act, which was first passed to give Blacks in the south the right to vote.

On a similar note, he says the Civil Rights Act violates the Constitution and impedes on individual liberties. Speaking of Blacks in Washington DC he states in campaign literature:

"95 percent of African Americans in the USA are semi-criminal or entirely criminal".

Paul

Here is my picture of Ron Paul supporters at an antiwar rally

http://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2008/01/06/18470489.php

Even if they're deluded, it's important not to divert energy fighting them at this stage. Let them undermine the republicans. Fight them if they go over 15-20% support

Dog-whistle politics, also known as a code word, is a term used to describe a type of political campaigning or speechmaking using coded language, which appears to mean one thing to the general population but which has a different or more specific meaning for a targeted subgroup of the audience. The term is usually used pejoratively by those that do not approve of the tactics.

adjective

diverse in character or content : a large and heterogeneous collection.

• Chemistry of or denoting a process involving substances in different phases (solid, liquid, or gaseous).

• Mathematics incommensurable through being of different kinds, degrees, or dimensions.
DERIVATIVES

heterogeneity |-jəˈnēətē| noun
heterogeneously adverb
heterogeneousness noun

ORIGIN early 17th cent.: from medieval Latin heterogeneus, from Greek heterogenēs, from heteros ‘other’ + genos ‘a kind.’

USAGE The correct spelling for the word meaning 'diverse in character or content' is heterogeneous, but a fairly common misspelling is heterogenous. The reason for the error probably relates to the pronunciation, which, in rapid speech, often skims over the fifth syllable as if to skip the e. Take care to note that heterogenous is a different word, which is used in specialized medical and biological senses and means 'originating outside the organism.'

Joe Conason at Salon thinks so.
Everybody has a theory about the remarkable resurgence of Hillary Clinton in New Hampshire. She "cried her way" to victory. Or she had a better vote-pulling operation. Or she benefited from a "Bradley effect" of white voters reluctant to actually pull the lever for an African-American candidate. But what seems just as plausible as any other explanation is also the most ironic: that New Hampshire Democrats -- and especially Democratic women -- were sick of the corrosive hostility and naked slant of the mainstream media against her.

The polls that had showed Barack Obama well ahead of Clinton were not so much wrong as misleading -- or at least badly interpreted by journalists too eager to write Clinton's political obituary. In fact, the polls correctly measured Obama's share of the vote. What happened during the contest's last few days was that the undecided broke for Clinton, and the question is why.

Without depriving her and her campaign team of any credit they deserve for her late revival, it seems quite possible that all the cheap shots and hate bombs finally backfired on Clinton's aggressive adversaries in the media.
Hmmm... I'm not sure how you "badly interpret" a double-digit lead in the polls. Yes, the pollsters may have screwed up, but I am not going to fault the media when all of us - ALL of us - including Hillary's own team, were convinced that she was going to lose because the polls said she was going to lose by a huge margin.

More Reasons to Vote than War

I'd love for the war to stop. But I don't see anyone being able to stop the war - even Kucinich or Ron Paul - until or unless American interests are stabalized over there. It's not going to be easy no matter who is in office. Bush may have done things by edict - but that was due to a sympathetic congress that had been attacked with spooky white powder envelopes. They'd been terrorized in a personal way. None of us knows how we'd act in that situation.

New President (whoever she or he is) may not have such a sympathetic congress and isn't likely to get a lot of what they want, at least not right off the bat. It'll be a long, hard slog either way.

I try to keep in mind, there are other reasons to vote. Who's most likely to appoint yet ANOTHER conservative judge to the Supreme Court?

Who's more likely to use the bully pulpit to try yet again to privatize social security?

Who's most likely to try and get us Universal Health Care?

These other things matter. So if a candidate gets the nomination and they aren't my favorite pick, I keep these other things in mind.

"There are two impressions we seem to have here," Bingham said. "The first one is the majority of violence is against civilians, and they are on the brink of a huge civil war, and the Sunnis and Shias hate each other, and the Americans are standing between these two groups that are just going to kill each other. The next one is that the people fighting against us are some radical fringe group who can be isolated and killed."

The Primaries Are Broadcasters' Big Payday

Hillary Clinton's surprise victory in New Hampshire guarantees a longer, more competitive Democratic primary season. It's like money in the bank for broadcasters, as the first billion-dollar presidential campaign continues.

While the world's oldest democracy, the United States, spends trillions of dollars claiming to bring democracy to Afghanistan and Iraq (through the barrel of a gun), what have we got here? A process driven by major donors shoveling huge sums of cash into the troughs of television broadcasters, who are holding the electoral process hostage through their control of the public airwaves. The same broadcasters arbitrarily exclude viable candidates from their so-called debates, elevating themselves to kingmaker.

Horses Spared in U.S. Face Death Across the Border

By CATRIN EINHORN
Published: January 11, 2008
SHIPSHEWANA, Ind. — At the weekly horse auction here, No. 274, a handsome chestnut-colored draft horse, looked at the surrounding men while being led into a small ring. Two of the men looked back, calculating how much meat the animal’s carcass would yield, and started bidding accordingly.

Bidding on Loose Horses
There is no pretense about what happens to the horses sold in this area of the auction, known as the kill pen. Just a few months ago, many of them would have met their end at a slaughterhouse in neighboring Illinois. Now almost all will be shipped to Canada and killed there.

Amid pressure from animal rights groups, horse slaughter virtually ended in the United States last year, as courts upheld state laws banning it in Texas and Illinois, home to the nation’s last three horse slaughterhouses.

I know that I can only do so much. But why must WE always kill people or animals because they get in the way???
Sometimes I get to the point - I get so FRUSTRATED I just want to scream & just go somewhere where there are no people.
RESPONSIBILITY is what I think its called. We have fucked up mother nature so bad that sometimes I think it is beyond repair.
There is a reason for everything in this world. Man has just fucked it up the last how ever many thousands of years we have been in existence.

Indeed,

Most Americans are unaware that the millions, and perhaps this year, billions raised for political campaigns will go the the media. And don't forget about the high cost of cable subscriptions, and the consumption of advertisement.

The number one issue in America is not the economy nor the Iraq War. These are merely the ravages of the disease. The number one issue in America, or the disease, is the American Media. They have been complicit in ever criminal enterprise this country has unleashed.

Can you name any major event in America where you have been told the truth?

Media reform should be our number one issue. But I fear it's too late. I think, and I hope, I'm wrong. It appears this time however, the chickens have really, truly, come home to roost.
