First!!
ah ha!
Morning Sam and Marc
Anticipation! Take your time to get the audio straigtened out first.
There is also this feed - Direct from SmackChannel
SmackChannel - Sam Seder
Maron's been removed from this list... for now
http://www.wrongdiagnosis.com/symptoms/bleeding_from_ear/causes.htm
(Loud nose?)
After the rough start...
Thank you for persevering, Marc's finally got the mic set perfectly (aside from a little dropping out). These tech issues are really exasperating, but please don't give up! It's all part of the struggle of being on the physical plane.
good morning yourll
just got in from the dentist whats crackalacking?
is there a problem?
no video?
Morning Lucille
Maron as usual.
audio drops a little
Video is good.
Maron as usual.
ok i am getting a picture from the small one
sam?
Such a relief to not have Marc screeching and looping, the drop out is bearable. Sam is gone though. 'No Video' even if I open two windows like in the old SOS.
seems better
but marc is still cutting out repeatedly
how'd ya like it when marc unplugged his mike? smooth move he didn't know it would cut him out totally ? i swear he's like a ADHD 4 yr old sometimes...thank god theres no chandeliers there he'd be swingin from them
Seventeen entertainment
Seventeen entertainment blogs will today go dark in solidarity with the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike. They will replace their usual content with WGA “solidarity statements.”

Sam is good - Marc is breaking up
I can hear Sam fine, Marc is off and on
mike malloy
said on his show last night (which may have been a repeat)
that they would start doing live video of him while he did his show although it was not his choice. then i saw on rosies (O'donnell) blog she's gonna start doing a live blog show
sounds like Sammy was ahead of the curve on this but maybe after others start doing it he can get some tech tips
Marc breaking up
Actually filling in Marc's missing content from our minds is like this intense, real time, mad-libs game. Quite entertaining in itself but probably not exactly what Marc intends.
You need some expert help on Marc's end, I recommend Leo Laporte of twit.tv and Patrick Norton of revision3.com. Or ask Marc's local Genius bar if he can do one week from the bar.
Don't threaten to reschedule, power on, and work on the problem iteratively.
Yes, Marc's sound is breaking up to us, could be his upload bandwidth is insufficient, not from the laptop, but from his DSL or Cable modem.
The bars just show the quality of his last few feet of wireless.
nevermind
don't give up! Sam is back for me and Marc is so worth the effort to hear!
yes its the audio
only marc is breaking up
and this prob has existed ALWAYS at least for me
this is the best show i've seen tech wise tho
I think Marc gets to close
to the mic. when he backs up from the mic, you can hear him
It is annoying but....
Its more annoying not hearing Sam more than once a week
Sweet Jayzeus!
Marc's runnin' his end wirelessly? And he's sittin within cabled distance of his router?
Holy crap, Marc. Buy yourself a 50-100 ft. ethernet patch cable, learn how to switch from wireless to wired connections (a couple of mouse clicks) & then HARDWIRE your box to the router for these VOD sessions (or when you want higher/better thruput).
Simple math: wireless runs at 10-to-20 mps (don't ask, it's relative), while HARDWIRED runs at 100 mps. See? 5-to-10 times faster!
Maybe Marc is Blocking the Wireless's Eye !
On his Computer? ?
"Hello to our friends and fans in domestic surveillance."
Mic switch
working better since the mic switch was thrown to make it less sensitive, no breakup in sound, can even hear Marc chewing.
must have been mic sensitivity, has been smooth for 5 min since he threw switch back to less sensitive.
dang my boss must have really missed me
he keeps calling me---geez!
wga strike
How is the entire guild using one contract for everyone, I don't understand how WGA doesn't have a contract with each of ABC, NBC, HBO, etc. How are all those relationships on one contract?
sams feed -GREAT!
marc's feed sometimes cuts out changing the mike seemed to help. But this is the first time Sams has been totally fine for me he's not cutting out ,freezing or disappearing at all! YAY! by jove i think he's got it
Knock on wood
I think they got it
Sousa!
Did not like talking machines.
they finally got it going nicely
but i keep shuddering every time marc grabs his glass of coffee fearing he's going to spill it on his computer and we're back to square 1
"God Bless America" was written by Irving Berlin
America's unofficial national anthem was composed by an immigrant who left his home in Siberia for America when he was only five years old. The original version of "God Bless America" was written by Irving Berlin (1888-1989) during the summer of 1918 at Camp Upton, located in Yaphank, Long Island, for his Ziegfeld-style revue, Yip, Yip, Yaphank. "Make her victorious on land and foam, God Bless America..." ran the original lyric. However, Berlin decided that the solemn tone of "God Bless America" was somewhat out of keeping with the more comedic elements of the show and the song was laid aside.
In the fall of 1938, as war was again threatening Europe, Berlin decided to write a "peace" song. He recalled his "God Bless America" from twenty years earlier and made some alterations to reflect the different state of the world. Singer Kate Smith introduced the revised "God Bless America" during her radio broadcast on Armistice Day, 1938. The song was an immediate sensation; the sheet music was in great demand. Berlin soon established the God Bless America Fund, dedicating the royalties to the Boy and Girl Scouts of America.
Berlin's file of manuscripts and lyric sheets for this quintessentially American song includes manuscripts in the hand of Berlin's longtime musical secretary, Helmy Kresa (Berlin himself did not read and write music), as well as lyric sheets, and corrected proof copies for the sheet music.
These materials document not only the speed with which Berlin revised this song, but also his attention to detail. The first proof copy is dated October 31, 1938; the earliest "final" version of the song is a manuscript dated November 2; and Kate Smith's historic broadcast took place on November 11. These documents show the song's step-by-step evolution from the original version of 1918 to the tune we now know.
These manuscripts are part of the Irving Berlin Collection, a remarkable collection that includes Berlin's personal papers as well as the records of the Irving Berlin Music Corp. It was presented to the Library of Congress in 1992, by Berlin's daughters, Mary Ellin Barrett, Linda Louise Emmet, and Elizabeth Irving Peters.

re: Lessig
Sam (& Marc)-
what you are talking about is the same premise for what Al Gore's been working on w/his new tv network. He talks about how things need to be interactive. Look at his book "The Assault On Reason." He's talking about the same things. I wish he would run for Pres....
he really gets the whole picture.

About this Talk
Larry Lessig gets TEDsters to their feet, whooping and whistling, following this elegant presentation of "three stories and an argument." The Net's most adored lawyer brings together John Philip Sousa, celestial copyrights, and the "ASCAP cartel" to build a case for creative freedom. He pins down the key shortcomings of our dusty, pre-digital intellectual property laws, and reveals how bad laws beget bad code. Then, in an homage to cutting-edge artistry, he throws in some of the most hilarious remixes you've ever seen.

but I do not live in The City or L.A. anymore ... sniff
however I just saw LINK ... (strays and ex-strays, Monster Beta, and Ex-Dead-Rats-walking probably would not be amused).......But Those Stockings! TRES COOL!
Tech:
After Marc put the mic switch back to the original position, the audio ceased dropping out.
Assumption: the switch engaged a digital circuit in the mic (as opposed to analog) & Marc's lows sometimes weren't strong enough to get past the "filter."
Marc's end is still louder the Sam's & I have to slide my bass setting to 5%, but...
This setup is fine. Beats the hell outta the first few shows. : )
fuck the mouse?
what just happened (my boss man)--getting on my nerves
"it left me feeliing gutted"
"i like that kind of felling tho" marc you're messed up
No Country
I read the book- and Maron describes it Cormick McCarthy novel -perfectly. Very violent. Also heard the Lessig interview - but Sam's recounting helped the getting it. Little boats
Gore on the media
part of an Al Gore speech on media:
"Soon after television established its dominance over print, young people who realized they were being shut out of the dialogue of democracy came up with a new form of expression in an effort to join the national conversation: the "demonstration." This new form of expression, which began in the 1960s, was essentially a poor quality theatrical production designed to capture the attention of the television cameras long enough to hold up a sign with a few printed words to convey, however plaintively, a message to the American people. Even this outlet is now rarely an avenue for expression on national television.
So, unlike the marketplace of ideas that emerged in the wake of the printing press, there is virtually no exchange of ideas at all in television's domain. My partner Joel Hyatt and I are trying to change that - at least where Current TV is concerned. Perhaps not coincidentally, we are the only independently owned news and information network in all of American television.
It is important to note that the absence of a two-way conversation in American television also means that there is no "meritocracy of ideas" on television. To the extent that there is a "marketplace" of any kind for ideas on television, it is a rigged market, an oligopoly, with imposing barriers to entry that exclude the average citizen.
The German philosopher, Jurgen Habermas, describes what has happened as "the refeudalization of the public sphere." That may sound like gobbledygook, but it's a phrase that packs a lot of meaning. The feudal system which thrived before the printing press democratized knowledge and made the idea of America thinkable, was a system in which wealth and power were intimately intertwined, and where knowledge played no mediating role whatsoever. The great mass of the people were ignorant. And their powerlessness was born of their ignorance.
It did not come as a surprise that the concentration of control over this powerful one-way medium carries with it the potential for damaging the operations of our democracy. As early as the 1920s, when the predecessor of television, radio, first debuted in the United States, there was immediate apprehension about its potential impact on democracy. One early American student of the medium wrote that if control of radio were concentrated in the hands of a few, "no nation can be free."
As a result of these fears, safeguards were enacted in the U.S. -- including the Public Interest Standard, the Equal Time Provision, and the Fairness Doctrine - though a half century later, in 1987, they were effectively repealed. And then immediately afterwards, Rush Limbaugh and other hate-mongers began to fill the airwaves.
And radio is not the only place where big changes have taken place. Television news has undergone a series of dramatic changes. The movie "Network," which won the Best Picture Oscar in 1976, was presented as a farce but was actually a prophecy. The journalism profession morphed into the news business, which became the media industry and is now completely owned by conglomerates."

Dennis Miller is rumored to be endorsing him. Sam, would you please bring your D.M. Talking Action Figure to the next show?

Il Duce-Bag

dag, zeek!
Edwards is great on labor issues
remember that Hillary Clinton was a Goldwater Girl... and was brought up as a republican.
if clinton gets in
she'll just have to fight the rightwing constantly it'll just be a battle the whole 4 yrs and the rightwingers will do whatever it takes to make her presidency hell and she knows this and will therefore cave as she has already done in the senate
I love this show!
Sam and Marc are so great. This show should be on more than once a week. In a perfect world it would be on every day, but I'll gladly take what I can get. Keep going strong, guys!
--will therefore cave as she has already done in the senate--
That's not caving, she is one of them. (conservatron) Remember the flag burning legislation? That was the turning point for me. Fuck her.
Edwards has seen the great evil
face to face he knows what he's up against and he's willing to take on that fight. I like that
I do think Clinton has seen the great evil face to face as well and her way to deal with it is to give the monster what it wants and try to give the others part of what they want ...it has worked for her in the senate but its' not the way to run the country
NO, I do not want this to be over (sniff)
:(
best show yet!
tech issues very minimal
Remember the flag burning

Feinstein Faces Dem Censure After Backing Mukasey

Feinstein Faces Dem Censure After Backing Mukasey
One day after voting to elevate a divisive conservative judge to the federal appeals court in New Orleans, California Sen. Dianne Feinstein was the president's guest aboard Air Force One. She had been invited to survey the damage from the recent spate of Southern California wildfires.
The senator later remarked privately that she found her conversation with Bush aboard Air Force One "illuminating," a source close to Feinstein told the Huffington Post.
Two weeks later, Feinstein was one of two Democrats on the Senate judiciary committee to vote to send Michael Mukasey's nomination to be the new attorney general to the full Senate. Her support helped turn the tide in favor of a nomination that faced an uncertain future after Mukasey refused to say whether waterboarding was torture.
When the full Senate voted, Feinstein was one of only six Democrats to vote in favor of confirming Mukasey.

Why is Ron Paul so popular? also, much better sound quality
You guys touched on Ron Paul's popularity. I think the main reason he's got the support he does is that he is anti-war AND a Republican. People treat their party affiliation like it's their favorite football team. Their team may suck (mine does) but I'm still a fan. Lots of rightwingers are fed up with the war but could NEVER vote for a Democrat to save their lives. That's what it's all about.
Sound quality was very good today. I still get lots of little hiccups but overall good. By the way, Mark should put a little mirror where his camera is. It might convince him to brush his hair. Nice shades though.

mornin gang!
on with the week.
busy here!
That's an amazing speech
Thanks for the link to this brilliant speech by Al Gore. Added to the dread of how the MSM has functioned so far as a tool of oppression, I feel extremely uneasy about the ever-increasing media consolidation underway.
ABOUT TIME !
Whereas Senator Dianne Feinstein voted to support the nomination of Judge Michael Mukasey as United States Attorney General, thereby elevating to the highest position in law enforcement a man who refused to renounce the right of the President to resort to torture and who refused to recognize waterboarding as a form of torture, and by this action Senator Feinstein failed to oppose President Bush and failed to stand for the ideals of the Democratic Party, which abhors torture and stands firmly against its use by the United States at all times and places; and
Whereas Senator Feinstein voted to confirm Judge Leslie Southwick for a seat on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit despite his clear record of racism and gender discrimination, thus failing to stand firmly with the Democratic Party, which supports gender equality and opposes racism in any of its manifestations; and
Whereas these examples are far from the only instances where Senator Feinstein, after seeking and securing the support and endorsement of the California Democratic Party, has failed to support the policies and principles of our party
Therefore be it resolved that the California Democratic Party expresses its disappointment at, and censure of, Senator Feinstein for ignoring Democratic principles and falling so far below the standard of what we expect of our elected officials.
