How to Talk To Your Child About the Next Gay G.O.P. Sex Scandal
A timely and insightful guide through the murky waters of G O P gay sex by John Calendo
In the wake of the next gay Republican sex scandal, your child will have many questions. They will hear things at school and from the television that will trouble them. You can save them a lot of confusion if you speak to them now during this brief respite between arrests and indiscretions.
Sit your child down in a safe and non-threatening space -- a beautiful hillside gold with autumn leaves will do -- and then in a calm, reassuring voice touch on the following points:
1. When Two Men Fall in Love ...
When two men fall in love, little Johnny or Jane, they sometimes meet in men's rooms and, entering the last two stalls at the farthest end of the lavatory so they won't bother anyone or be bothered, they enjoy the warmth of each other's company.
When one of these men is not really in love but is a policemen whose job it is to prevent the sharing of warmth and good feeling between two men, then the other man is arrested. This is called entrapment, and though it has questionable legality, they do this in places run by our friends the Republicans.
Now you're wondering why Republicans who love the Constitution so much would want to do something not quite in keeping with the Bill of Rights. Republicans, you see, hate taxes. They hate taxes so much that they have no money to pay the Fireman and the Policeman and the Mailman. So they entrap people and say they will put their names in the newspaper unless the people pay them money. And those fees and fines go to run the city and light the streetlamps and fix the roads.
And that's why Dad can afford to send you to a nice school and pay the doctor out of his own pocket and still drive an SUV and run the computer all night when he downloads his pictures. It's all good, little one. The two men who fall in love in the bathroom are part of God's plan because God loves all the children and wants the mail to be delivered........

Democracy in action
Amy Goodman, host of independent radio’s “Democracy Now!” is the “woman behind the man,” only she is trying to push “the man” – corporately-controlled network media – out of the way.
Goodman will be speaking about her new book – written with her brother, journalist David Goodman – “Static: Government Liars, Media Cheerleaders, And The People Who Fight Back” on Saturday afternoon at the Unitarian Church on Orange Street. The lecture is sponsored by the Peace and Justice Committee of the church and is part of her 10-year anniversary tour for Democracy Now!
“Nantucket has a great community of people who care about “unembedded” information,” said Goodman. “Independent media is the most important tool on defending a democracy. It is time corporate media starts truly reflecting what people are thinking and not kow-towing to the Bush administration,” she said.
According to Goodman, American corporate media is at an all-time low – “acting as a megaphone for the government and repeating lies.” Goodman is still reeling from the Bush Administration’s planting reporters in
the Washington press corps. “We need a media that is not backed by government-paid propaganda,” she said.
“People have lost faith in the media,” said Goodman. “The lies about the weapons of mass destruction not only exposed the Bush Administration, but it exposed the media.”
Oddly enough, the network media’s approach to journalism has opened a window for independent, grass roots reporting such as Democracy Now! “It is amazing that Democracy Now! is unique,” said Goodman. “The media leaves a vacuum for a diversity of voices.”
Millions of people are able to access Democracy Now!, an hour-long news radio program, through podcasts over the Internet. A decade ago, Democracy Now! was carried on a handful of community radio stations. Now, the program is carried on 500 stations and growing at a rate of two to three new radio stations a week.
“A former minister of Greece downloads the show,” said Goodman. “We also have a listener from Alaska, a die-hard Republican. People from across the political spectrum. There is no one profile of our listeners. People are sick of being lied to.”

Church's Members Rally Amid Sex Scandal
LAKELAND - Though the weather outside was clear and cool, a tempest continued to tear at the First Baptist Church at the Mall.
"We will get through this storm," Pastor Jay Dennis told those assembled at the Lakeland megachurch Sunday morning. "It's been an incredibly rough three weeks."
After weeks of investigating, Lakeland police on Saturday arrested Marshal Seymour, accusing the student ministry volunteer of sex offenses involving three boys he had mentored at the church.
Seymour, 40, paid them to perform sex acts or to keep quiet about sexual encounters that took place during the past two years, according to Lakeland police.
The victims were 15, 16 and 17 at the time, arrest records state.
During the investigation, Seymour also tried to bribe a person to delete a record of Seymour having been registered at a hotel where a sexual encounter took place, arrest records state.
Seymour was arrested on charges of unlawful sexual activity, tampering with a witness and three counts of using a child in sexual performance, jail records show. He remained in Polk County Jail on Sunday, with bail set at $325,000.......

Imperial opportunities for US builders
Times are tough. Here, in the United States, the bottom's threatening to blow out of the housing market. Here, construction companies are laying off employees and builders are wondering where their next jobs are likely to come from
The sky's the limit in Iraq
But, young builder, don't despair. When it comes to American construction projects in Iraq, the sky's really the limit.
Of Balad, Raz writes:
The base is one giant construction project, with new roads, sidewalks and structures going up across this 16-square-mile fortress in the center of Iraq, all with an eye toward the next few decades ... At the base, the sounds of construction and the hum of generators seem to follow visitors everywhere. Seen from the sky at night, the base resembles Las Vegas: While the surrounding Iraqi villages get about 10 hours of electricity a day, the lights never go out at Balad Air Base. http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Middle_East/IK06Ak02.html

Lawyers Want Senate To Hear About Ex-Ghost Detainee Before Mukasey Vote
By Spencer Ackerman - November 5, 2007, 3:42PM
There isn't much time before tomorrow's vote on attorney general-designee and torture agnostic Michael Mukasey. But lawyers from the only former CIA "ghost detainee" still in U.S. custody want the Senate to know what the consequences of a torture regimen are before they give Mukasey their stamp of approval. In a letter written November 1st, they requested a meeting with key Senators, but the letter was only cleared today for release by U.S. authorities.
Two lawyers for the Center for Constitutional Rights, Gita Gutierrez and J. Wells Dixon, recently returned from a two-week meeting with their client, Majid Khan, at Guantanamo Bay, where he's been detained since last September. Before he was taken to Guantanamo, Khan spent three years in an off-the-books detention facility run by or in cooperation with the CIA. Neither the Red Cross nor anyone outside a select few U.S. national security officials knew Khan's whereabouts. Since President Bush's 2006 decision to transfer 14 so-called "black site" detainees to Guantanamo, Khan is the first ghost detainee to meet with an attorney.
Gutierrez and Dixon, however, are subject to tight restriction over what they can say publicly about their client. They want to call attention to Khan's treatment from 2003 to 2006, when he was subject to the "enhanced interrogation procedures" that the Bush administration approved in mid-March 2002. While it's not clear what interrogation methods Khan endured, among those "enhanced" techniques was waterboarding -- the inducement or simulation of drowning that Mukasey won't say is torture.

First I hear of this
A federal judge has ordered Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley, and other senior officials to testify in the trial of two former American Israel Public Affairs Committee lobbyists. The AIPAC lobbyists are accused of passing classified information from a Pentagon official (who has since been convicted) to Israeli officials and journalists. However, the lobbyists claim they were regularly instructed to do by the US government. This case may shed more light on American foreign policy in the Middle East. - Largest Minority

Brazilian Land Activist Killed In Dispute Over Experimental GM F
For Syngenta, which was formed from an alliance of Novartis and Astra Zenica, the episode has turned into nightmare of accusation and counter-accusation amid suspicion that it gave free rein to an armed militia to protect its lands as it develops GM corn and maize seed for the expanding Brazilian market.
“Here we have a European company, Syngenta, effectively going around shooting people on its farm,” said Sarah Wilson of Christian Aid which helps fund the Movement of Landless Workers (MST) in Brazil.

The Greymail Defense Rides Again
By Phoenix Woman on Fri Nov 2, 2007 at 01:26 pm
condi.jpgLooks like Condi Rice, Stephen Hadley, and Elliott Abrams might have a bit of ’splainin’ to do early next year. Under oath. In a courtroom. Before a judge.
Lawyers for two former American Israel Public Affairs Committee lobbyists facing espionage charges have subpoenaed Rice, National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley, Deputy National Security Adviser Elliott Abrams and several others to testify at their trial next year.
Or maybe not:
Prosecutors had challenged the subpoenas in federal court.
My guess is that the prosecution smells an attempt to set up a ‘poison pill’ or ‘graymail’ defense, the most famous recent example being in the Scooter Libby Treasongate case.
So what the heck is ‘graymail’? Christy explains here:

Fifty-nine percent (59%) of Kentucky voters want the U.S. troops out of Iraq within a year. That figure is close to the national average and includes 22% who want the troops withdrawn immediately. Thirty-seven percent (37%) want the troops to remain until the mission in Iraq has been accomplished.

Parisian Modern Art Show
The Modern Art collection at the Pompidou is really good and reminds one -- if reminders are necessary -- just how awful "modern art" collections are in US. There was room after room of great and interesting thing: ravishing Kandinskys, a fantastic room of Picabias, one with two naked women in 40s movie poster style with a bulldog, plus a really frightening Golden Calf. Then on the next floor a whole later- modern collection with excellent acquisitions from 1950s,1960s and on.
Among them was "Manhattan Real Estate Holdings, A Real-Time Social System as of May 1, 1971, the series by Hans Haacke that got his one-man show axed at the last minute by the Guggenheim in the 1970s.
The work consists of 146 photographs of buildings, many of them slums, acquired between 1951 and 1971 by by Harry Shapolsky, named at the time as the city's top slumlord. Haacke included in each photo the info given in the Real Estate Directory of Manhattan. They make ironic reading now. Back then, to take a couple of examples, Shapolsky had 219 E 94th, a 5-story building with an assessed land value of $25,000 and a total value of $47,000. A six-story walk-up, 346 East 13th St, had an assessed land value of $22,000 and a total value of $57,000.

The 'troop' out? Just the 'one?' Are you referring to the 22% that want the troops out immediately as the 3% cut and runners?
Is math a difficult subject for you? I know English is.

We have a Iraq funding vote coming right up.
We have an Iraq funding vote coming right up. Now I am sure the 3% would vote no. Stop funding right now! Quick and easy. Yet it will not happen that way.
The funding will be approved. It will take both the Republican and Democrats together to make this happen. If Iraq is the 3%'s strongest position you are in real trouble.

Interesting Firearm Death Statistic
Regardless of where you stand on the issue of the U.S. Involvement in
Iraq , here is a sobering statistic:
There has been a monthly average of 160,000 troops in the Iraq theatre
Of operations during the last 40 months, and a total of 3,567 deaths.
That gives a firearm death rate of 60 per 100,000 soldiers.
The firearm death rate in Washington D.C. Is 80.6 per 100,000 persons for
The same period. That means that you are about 25% more likely to be
Shot and killed in the U.S. Capital than you are in Iraq .
Obvious Conclusion : The U.S. Should pull out of Washington .

24 former intel officials demand hold on Mukasey
THINK PROGRESS
In a letter to Senate Judiciary Committee heads Patrick Leahy (D-VT) and Arlen Specter (R-PA), 24 former intelligence officials today urged the senators to “not send Mukasey’s nomination to the full Senate before he makes clear his view on waterboarding.” From the letter:
If Mukasey continues to drag his feet, you need only to facilitate a classified briefing for him on waterboarding and the C.I.A. interrogation program. He will then be able to render an informed legal opinion. We strongly suggest that you sit in on any such briefing and that you invite the chairman and the ranking member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence to take part as well. Receiving the same briefing at the same time (and, ideally, having it taped) should enhance the likelihood of candor and make it possible for all to be–and to stay–on the same page on this delicate issue.
If the White House refuses to allow such a briefing, your committee must, in our opinion, put a hold on Mukasey’s nomination. We are aware that the president warned last week that it will be either Mukasey as our attorney general or no one. So be it.

Who remembers Howard Dean in 2004?
A 3%er leading going into Iowa! Wow! Was the system about get turned upside down?
On January 19, 2004, Dean's campaign suffered a blow when a last-minute surge by rivals John Kerry and John Edwards led to a disappointing third-place defeat for Dean in the 2004 Iowa Democratic caucuses, representing the first votes cast in primary season.
And then...
"Not only are we going to New Hampshire, Tom Harkin, we're going to South Carolina and Oklahoma and Arizona and North Dakota and New Mexico, and we're going to California and Texas and New York … And we're going to South Dakota and Oregon and Washington and Michigan, and then we're going to Washington, D.C., to take back the White House! Yeaararh!!!"
Hi Sandy : )
Good to see ya. Don't mind the 3% troll, his demise is imminent.

Cats
I love cats, have 6 of them myself. Those photos are not bad but what pisses me off is knowing it's just part of the trolls ploy to disrupt everything here.
Who's here?
Is anyone else posting here?
Is THERE???
Did it ever occur to you that maybe just maybe you might be considered disruptive?
SHUT the fuck up and stop the incessant bitching!

Kerry was made out to be a 3%er himself
No one can call you anything worse than a 3%er in the General Election. Weak on defense, going to raise taxes, flip-flopper, pro gay marriage, pro abortion, just not a good christian! It took a toll on Kerry. His past conduct and voting record was the final straw.
Hillary will face the same attack. Past conduct and voting record. It comes back on you every time!

I have very little blog experience anywhere but here. My limited experience limits the value of my opinion of people who make a practice of obnoxious posts. That said, I have noticed that the parasites who abuse the good-faith freedom of this blog also tend to oppose social programs. My guess is that they assume that their parasitic tendency is universal; that all people would abuse a social program as readily as the parasites abuse this blog.
The irony is glaring. Whilst demanding that others raise themselves by their bootstraps to become contributing members of society, the parasites greedily gobble up this blog's freebie handout, falsely claiming it as their right to be obnoxious assholes.
No wonder they oppose social programs.
Calm down Annette. Hello Brett.
I am the Husbot of Alice... an OG on this blog. I don't get here that often but when I do, I enjoy myself with the reading.
I know Brett from what my wife has told me about him and about all the other people she's met over the years on this blog. And that includes you! (All good things mind you.)
But I don't know you in the scary way you may think. I know quite a bit about the blog regulars from what my wiffy wife has told me over the years/months/weeks about her interactions on the blog and the new people she meets and regulars she talks to and has talked to over the years.
So don't worry Annette. I'm Alice's Husbot (12 years and going strong) so there's nothing to worry about. I enjoy both your and Brett's posts on the rare occasion I'm on this blog. And since you're both cat lovers... then we already have a bond.
At least you're not a psychopath like Nicky Rose turned out to be in our lives. Sheesh... He better stop his shit or shit will definitely happen.

it really isn't a hard...
clique to join. but you do have to have a name and a somewhat personable persona.
these guys accepted me when I was way stressed and at my anti-social worst.
I think a big part of the whole deal is being able to identify who is saying what. Once a reader has established a baseline for your personality, they can estimate whether you're serious or sarcastic w/ comments.
anonimity restricts that, you see?
Bad names
"Bad names have played a tremendously powerful role in the history of the world and in our own individual development. They have ruined reputations, stirred men and women to outstanding accomplishments, sent others to prison cells, and made men mad enough to enter battle and slaughter their fellowmen. They have been and are applied to other people, groups, gangs, tribes, colleges, political parties, neighborhoods, states, sections of the country, nations, and races."
The name-calling technique links a person, or idea, to a negative symbol. The propagandist who uses this technique hopes that the audience will reject the person or the idea on the basis of the negative symbol, instead of looking at the available evidence.
The most obvious type of name calling involves bad names. For example, consider the following:
* Commie
* Fascist
* Pig
* Yuppie
* Bum
* Queer
* Terrorist
A more subtle form of name-calling involves words or phrases that are selected because they possess a negative emotional charge. Those who oppose budget cuts may characterize fiscally conservative politicians as "stingy." Supporters might prefer to describe them as "thrifty." Both words refer to the same behavior, but they have very different connotations. Other examples of negatively charged words include:
* social engineering
* radical
* cowardly
* counter-culture
The name-calling technique was first identified by the Institute for Propaganda Analysis (IPA) in 1938. According to the IPA, we should ask ourselves the following questions when we spot an example of name-calling.
* What does the name mean?
* Does the idea in question have a legitimate connection with the real meaning of the name?
* Is an idea that serves my best interests being dismissed through giving it a name I don't like?
* Leaving the name out of consideration, what are the merits of the idea itself?

My kitty's name is Mercedes. She used to love me when she was a baby, but has later in life decided she prefers my oldest child. I rarely see her unless she's trying to make the dog jealous, or if the oldest isn't here. At the latter time, she's been known to walk on my computer, which could lead to odd messages left here. :-) Thank God for edit!

Perhaps they do. I, on the other hand, only label obnoxious postings as obnoxious posts. Repetitious lists is an example. Repetitious photographs is another. Dozens of random embeds is another.
You will note that none of the above has any connection with disagreeing with stated opinions. I always read an earnestly stated opinion. I ignore the crap that leads with "real Americans" or "the 3%" or "what's wrong with all of you is..."
I'd need to pare several dozen points off of my I.Q. to enjoy repetition and blatantly inflammatory provocations.

Whitehouse introduces
Whitehouse introduces legislation outlawing ‘caging.’ Today Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) introduced the Caging Prohibition Act, a bill which would outlaw a “long-recognized voter suppression tactic which has often been used to target minority voters”:
The Caging Prohibition Act would prohibit challenges to a person’s eligibility to register to vote, or cast a vote, based solely on returned mail or a caging list. The bill would also mandate that anyone who challenges the right of another citizen to vote must set forth the specific grounds for their alleged ineligibility, under penalty of perjury.
In June, Whitehouse requested a DoJ investigation into Tim Griffin, the former Karl Rove protege who was placed as a U.S. attorney in Arkansas, on allegations that he led a “caging” scheme to suppress the votes of African-American servicemembers in Florida.

"Mercedes Benz"
Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?
My friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends.
Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends,
So Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?
Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a color TV ?
Dialing For Dollars is trying to find me.
I wait for delivery each day until three,
So oh Lord, won’t you buy me a color TV ?
Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a night on the town ?
I’m counting on you, Lord, please don’t let me down.
Prove that you love me and buy the next round,
Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a night on the town ?
Everybody!
Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?
My friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends,
Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends,
So oh Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?

Get the Picture
Conscious Creation Goes to the Movies
http://blachubear.livejournal.com/22541.html
Book Description
You'll never watch a movie the same way again.
Larry King and Oprah are talking about "conscious creation," and movie audiences all over the world have learned from What the Bleep?! and The Secret that we create our own reality! Now author Brent Marchant goes to the movies and shows us how to view films of all sorts from a conscious creation perspective and from them learn how to get the picture of our own lives.
Each chapter introduces a particular conscious creation concept and explores five movies that illustrate and edify the concept at hand. As we examine onscreen characters' mistakes and successes from a conscious creation perspective, we can begin to apply what we learn to our own lives.
Representing a broad range of films and film genres, not just "spiritual" or feelgood films--from blockbusters like The Right Stuff and Sophie's Choice to indies like Syriana and Good Night and Good Luck to classics like Vertigo and It's a Wonderful Life--Marchant uses the various story lines and characters to address the difficulties and stumbling blocks we all encounter when trying to become adept conscious creators. Get the Picture is entertaining, positive, and empowering. You'll never watch a movie the same way again.
* Each of the 12 chapters focuses on a particular conscious creation principle and includes 5 movie analyses that illustrate that principle.
* The individual analyses are entertaining and enlightening whether or not you actually see the movies.
* A great companion book for the many conscious creation movie groups springing up.
About the Author
Brent Marchant is a freelance writer and photographer and is well-known among online conscious creation groups. He lives in Chicago.

Suggestion to you Parents out there.

When my child was young, at Christmas time, I told her that Santa would bring her new toys for Christmas but Santa also wanted her to go through her toys and pick some to donate to children that were poor and didn't have toys.
So we were able to do two things at once. Eliminate some of the toys for the new ones and donate some toys for the needy.
____________
As several bloggers mentioned we are dealing with Toxic Toys more and more these days, there are alternative gifts that will be more useful and valuable. Open a savings account and/or college account, or buy US savings bonds and/or stock in blue or green companies accompanied by "How To" books. The following is a link to an Amazon site for suggestions for ages from 8 to teens.
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0764106813/qid=1065815804/...
Of course, little ones might prefer the toys, and while 80% of toys are manufactured in other countries, you can still buy toys that are made in America, check out these sites:
http://www.step2.com/made-in-usa/ (lists how to decipher labeling)

www.FOA.com (has a search engine for toys from various countries of origin)
www.usmadetoys.com
www.stillmadeinusa.com
www.toysmadeinamerica.com
www.usmadetoys.com
Of course, kids can be happy with just the box the toy came in. So, give your children time and positive attention and include toniD's suggestion, instead spending it in the malls. Happy Holidays!
Thanks, Brett :-)
Mercedes may look like an angel, but she torments the dog and to some extent, the youngsters. Likes to guerilla attack them at mischievous times. :-) But I believe that in both instances, its probably well-deserved payback. The dog hates her from her puppy days when kitty used to scare the hell out of her for kicks.

received notice today that MFSO, IVAW and VFP were refused entry into the Long Beach Veterans Day Parade. Their only stated reason by the Long Beach Veterans Day Committee Chairperson Martha Thuente was that the group did not represent the spirit of the Long Beach Veterans Day Parade. We have told all of these people we would not have signs only our banners and that we were not protesting. How can they not let veterans and military families march in a veteran’s parade? We marched last year with Veterans For Peace and had no problems. We are writing up a press release, but first we would like all of you to call the following people and any others you think may help. "did not represent the spirit"
"Every gun that is made, every warship that is launched, every rocket fired, signifies in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. This is not a way of life at all, in any true sense. Under the cloud of war, it is humanity hanging on a cross of iron."

Youth Orchestra of Venezuela's Poor Wows the World
...
"Venezuela is a land of music, a land of inspiration," says Mark Churchill, dean of Preparatory and Continuing Education at the school. "The Venezuelans are striving for the same values in classical music as are people at the conservatory. It's a natural joining of forces."
For the past year, Mr. Churchill has been preparing for next week's 2-1/2 day visit from the Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra, the crowning jewel of the Venezuelan system (or El Sistema, as it is commonly called). The 200-member orchestra's dazzling reputation has preceded its first major tour of the United States, which includes performances tonight at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles and at New York's Carnegie Hall on Nov. 12.
No less an illustrious figure than Sir Simon Rattle of the Berlin Philharmonic has called the Venezuelan system the most important thing happening anywhere for the future of classical music, and its wild-haired director, Gustavo Dudamel – who was tapped for the directorship of the Los Angeles Philharmonic starting in 2009 – the most gifted young conductor he has come across.
The SBYO's arrival in Boston is a landmark event both for the young orchestra itself, and for the NEC, which will benefit from an influx of raw musical energy. "You just don't know what [the orchestra] is about until you come face to face with it," says Churchill.
Churchill encountered the group in 2000 when he was looking to start a hemisphere-wide youth orchestra. He found a natural partner in José Antonio Abreu, the organist, economist, and politician who founded El Sistema in 1975 out of a desire to bring classical music to the country's poorest children. From the 11 children who attended the first meeting in a Caracas parking garage to gradually growing numbers at subsequent rehearsals, the system today boasts some 250,000 members, who study in nearly 250 nucleos and play in scores of orchestras organized by members' ages. Besides teaching its young members music, the program has also served as a family for many, giving them hope and a sense of accomplishment.
"Very early on, the members are equipped with excellent values and a feeling of accomplishment and solidarity by being so extraordinarily involved in music," says Igor Lanz, executive director of the foundation that oversees El Sistema. "They are prepared to be better citizens for society."

This amnesty is meant to cover any and all criminal activities he and his staff may have engaged in such as the taking of bribes and the violation of his oath of office to protect the Constitution.
In response to criticism over this action, Rockefeller stated, "Hell, I was thinking why shouldn't I give myself and my staff amnesty. I mean, I'm doing it for the telecommunications companies and they've violated way more laws than I have. Anyway, let's get real here. This is America, the law isn't meant to apply to people like me and our benefactors. Laws are only for ordinary people who are like little children who need to be spanked now and then."

Russert Performs Fellatio On Bush While Screwing Clinton
Assimilated Press:
Washington, D.C. - Today, in a Rose Garden ceremony at the White House, President George W. Bush awarded NBC's Washington bureau chief and host of Meet the Press, Tim Russert, the newly issued Iron Cross and a box of breath mints for his unending servicing of the president and vice president during the last seven years.
In presenting the distinguished medal, Bush referred to the General Electric employee by his personal pet name, "Kneepads Russert," and commended him for "Always being there when Dick and I need political cover or just a simple hummer."
Also heaping praise on Russert was Vice President Cheney who said, "Tim is the pet dog I always wanted as a boy. He knows who the master is and always does what he is told without question. That is one of the reasons why the merger of the Republican Party with General Electric has been so successful."
Cheney then complimented Russert for his eagerness in following White House instructions and Republican Party daily memos in his attacks on Hillary Clinton. Said Cheney, "Tim knows that we want Hillary taken down and he follows our orders smearing her character with the same enthusiasm he displays when the president and I tell him to drop to his knees for a command performance. Yep, no question about it, Tim is our bitch and that is why he is wealthy and famous."

Filibuster Mukasey (Action)
I urge you to lead a filibuster of Judge Michael Mukasey for Attorney General of the United States.
In his sworn testimony before the Senate, Judge Mukasey refused to acknowledge that waterboarding is torture, even though it was used for torture by the Spanish Inquisition, the Japanese in World War II, and Cambodia's Khmer Rouge.
Mukasey also insists the President can ignore the law to wiretap American citizens without a warrant.
Mukasey has thus proven his contempt for the Geneva Conventions, the Rule of Law, and the Constitution itself.
After seven years of corruption and war crimes at the highest level of the Bush-Cheney administration, it is essential that the Senate reject any Attorney General who will not be 100% independent of Bush, Cheney, David Addington, and the Federalist Society.

there's still hope
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- With the election of the next president a year away, Sen. Hillary Clinton remains the person to beat, a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll released Monday suggests.
As the countdown begins to November 4, 2008, the New York Democrat continues to dominate the race for the Democratic presidential nomination, and comes out ahead when voters are asked whether they prefer her or the GOP front-runner, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani.
But Clinton's path to the White House is in no way certain. Clinton was criticized for her performance during a debate last week, and her rivals for the Democratic nomination have stepped up attacks that she has equivocated on her position on Iraq, Iran and other major issues.
The Republican presidential candidates have also stepped up their attacks on the Democratic front-runner, with each suggesting that he has the best chance of stopping Clinton.
The attacks may be working. The CNN/Opinion Research polls suggests that Clinton's support has slipped from its height one month ago.

FRANKFORT --Still lagging in the polls, with hours to go until Election Day, Gov. Ernie Fletcher ordered the posting of the Ten Commandments in the Capitol yesterday while anonymous phone calls to voters tried to link Democrat Steve Beshear to "the homosexual lobby."
Fletcher, whose campaign denied a role in the automated calls, flew around Kentucky to declare himself the "values" candidate.

Olbermann: Bush may not observe the rules, but the country abides by them
Special Comment: On waterboarding and torture
Nov. 5: Keith Olbermann comments on Pres. Bush and Michael Mukasey’s response to allegations of waterboarding in the Bush administration. Why was an Acting Assistant Attorney General forced out – just because he had the guts to do what Pres. Bush couldn't?
It is a fact startling in its cynical simplicity and it requires cynical and simple words to be properly expressed: The presidency of George W. Bush has now devolved into a criminal conspiracy to cover the ass of George W. Bush.
All the petulancy, all the childish threats, all the blank-stare stupidity; all the invocations of World War III, all the sophistic questions about which terrorist attacks we wanted him not to stop, all the phony secrets; all the claims of executive privilege, all the stumbling tap-dancing of his nominees, all the verbal flatulence of his apologists...
All of it is now, after one revelation last week, transparently clear for what it is: the pathetic and desperate manipulation of the government, the refocusing of our entire nation, toward keeping this mock president and this unstable vice president and this departed wildly self-overrating attorney general, and the others, from potential prosecution for having approved or ordered the illegal torture of prisoners being held in the name of this country.
"Waterboarding is torture," Daniel Levin was to write. Daniel Levin was no theorist and no protester. He was no troublemaking politician. He was no table-pounding commentator. Daniel Levin was an astonishingly patriotic American and a brave man.
Brave not just with words or with stances, even in a dark time when that kind of bravery can usually be scared or bought off.
Charged, as you heard in the story from ABC News last Friday, with assessing the relative legality of the various nightmares in the Pandora's box that is the Orwell-worthy euphemism "Enhanced Interrogation," Mr. Levin decided that the simplest, and the most honest, way to evaluate them ... was to have them enacted upon himself.
Daniel Levin took himself to a military base and let himself be waterboarded.
Mr. Bush, ever done anything that personally courageous?
Perhaps when you've gone to Walter Reed and teared up over the maimed servicemen? And then gone back to the White House and determined that there would be more maimed servicemen?
Has it been that kind of personal courage, Mr. Bush, when you've spoken of American victims and the triumph of freedom and the sacrifice of your own popularity for the sake of our safety? And then permitted others to fire or discredit or destroy anybody who disagreed with you, whether they were your own generals, or Max Cleland, or Joe Wilson and Valerie Plame, or Daniel Levin?
Daniel Levin should have a statue in his honor in Washington right now.
Instead, he was forced out as acting assistant attorney general nearly three years ago because he had the guts to do what George Bush couldn't do in a million years: actually put himself at risk for the sake of his country, for the sake of what is right.
And they waterboarded him. And he wrote that even though he knew those doing it meant him no harm, and he knew they would rescue him at the instant of the slightest distress, and he knew he would not die — still, with all that reassurance, he could not stop the terror screaming from inside of him, could not quell the horror, could not convince that which is at the core of each of us, the entity who exists behind all the embellishments we strap to ourselves, like purpose and name and family and love, he could not convince his being that he wasn't drowning.
Waterboarding, he said, is torture. Legally, it is torture! Practically, it is torture! Ethically, it is torture! And he wrote it down.
Wrote it down somewhere, where it could be contrasted with the words of this country's 43rd president: "The United States of America ... does not torture."
Made you into a liar, Mr. Bush.
Made you into, if anybody had the guts to pursue it, a criminal, Mr. Bush.
Ah,Somethings Never Change ! !

I ignore the crap that leads with "real Americans"
Yet there he is responding like a child once again. Perhaps many don't want to hear the truth. Perhaps many can't handle the truth. The last year has brought the 3% back to reality. That has been hard for the 3% to face. Turns out the much feared Neocons are Democrats. Where does one go from there?
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Despite Rhetoric, Dems Poised To Give Bush A Blank Check For Iraq
Despite their rhetoric about not wanting to hand President Bush another "blank check" for the Iraq War, Democrats appear poised to give him exactly that -- enough cash to keep the war going full steam for as long as six months, no strings attached.
Democratic leaders continue to fear GOP attacks that cutting off or slowing funds would hurt the troops, despite anger among the Democratic base over the party's failure to use Congress' power of the purse to end the war.
And while House Appropriations Chairman David Obey (D-Wis.) and Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) have said they have no intention of bringing up Bush's almost $200 billion supplemental war funding proposal this year without a timeline for withdrawal, Democrats are quietly preparing to give the president enough spending flexibility to keep the war going anyway.
Remember the Impeachment the 3% wanted ?
WASHINGTON — Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich is planning to make a procedural move on the House floor Tuesday that would call up a vote on the Democratic presidential candidate's resolution to impeach Vice President Dick Cheney.
When Kucinich offers his resolution, the House does not have to consider it. After it is put up for consideration, the resolution must be ruled in order by the House Parliamentarian. If it is not ruled to be in order, the issue dies unless Kucinich successfully appeals the ruling of the chair.
That would lead to a vote right there on the issue, or it could lead to a delay of up to 48 hours. A vote — or more than likely, a motion to table Kucinich's effort — would probably be delayed, too.
Death of the resolution is the preferable route for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who indicated through her spokesman Monday that impeachment is off the table.
"We're focused on redeploying our troops out of Iraq, covering 10 million uninsured children and meeting our national priorities long neglected by the Bush administration," said Pelosi aide Nasheam Elshami.
House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers told FOX News that it's not in the speaker's interest to move impeachment articles.
Kucinich represents 1% of the vote
Nancy represents 97% of the vote.
Impeachment is off the table!
That's reality come a knockin !
President Bush and this Congress have another year to office. The Surge is working. The tax cuts are in place. The economy is smokin. Iran is on the clock. Hillary has a 25 point lead in the polls. Gore is finished. Kerry is a non-starter. And the 3%ers have 58 days left before Iowa.

"I wonder why Congress just does not outlaw waterboarding?"
This is a republican talking point I have been hearing lately..simple reason, becasue it is already against the law. The Bushies and their puppet AGs have just refused to admit it because doing so would remove the cover they have created for themselves and expose them as using torture to foment Islamic extremism. Waterboarding is torture and torture is illegal.
Reason two, because it would call into question reason 1 and the Bush administration would have a card to play. They could say "thank you Congress, for proving our point. See we told you it wasn't torture when we were doing it, so don't think you can prosecute us for it retroactively." Now that you have passed the law making waterboarding illegal, we'll just issue a little signing statement declaring it null and void and we'll have our lawyers and Supreme Court buddies review it while we continue waterboarding. Feel free to prosecute in the meantime, we'll just ignore you and the people you represent.

International law
All countries that are signatory to the UN Convention Against Torture have agreed they are subjected to the explicit prohibition on torture under any condition, and as such there exists no legal exception under this treaty. (The treaty states, No exceptional circumstances whatsoever, whether a state of war or a threat of war, internal political instability or any other public emergency, may be invoked as a justification of torture.) Additionally, signatories of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights also agreed to its Article 5, which states, No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.

In 1947, the United States prosecuted a Japanese military officer, Yukio Asano, for carrying out a form of waterboarding on a U.S. civilian during World War II. Yukio Asano received a sentence of 15 years of hard labor.[13] The charges of Violation of the Laws and Customs of War against Asano also included "beating using hands, fists, club; kicking; burning using cigarettes; strapping on a stretcher head downward."[56]

On September 6, 2006, the United States Department of Defense released a revised Army Field Manual entitled Human Intelligence Collector Operations that prohibits the use of waterboarding by U.S. military personnel. The department adopted the manual amid widespread criticism of U.S. handling of prisoners in the War on Terrorism, and prohibits other practices in addition to waterboarding. The revised manual applies only to U.S. military personnel, and as such does not apply to the practices of the CIA.[58] However, under international law, violators of the laws of war are criminally liable under the command responsibility, and could still be prosecuted for war crimes.[59]

2007 is deadliest year for US in Iraq By LAUREN FRAYER, Associated Press Writer
1 hour, 30 minutes ago
BAGHDAD - The U.S. military on Tuesday announced the deaths of five more soldiers, making 2007 the deadliest year for U.S. troops despite a recent downturn, according to an Associated Press count.
At least 852 American military personnel have died in Iraq so far this year — the highest annual toll since the war began in March 2003, according to AP figures.
The grim milestone passed despite a sharp drop in U.S. and Iraqi deaths here in recent months, after a 30,000-strong U.S. force buildup. There were 39 deaths in October, compared to 65 in September and 84 in August.
Five U.S. soldiers were killed Monday in two separate roadside bomb attacks, said Rear Adm. Gregory Smith, director of the Multi-National Force-Iraq's communications division.
"We lost five soldiers yesterday in two unfortunate incidents, both involving IEDs," Smith told reporters in Baghdad's heavily-guarded Green Zone.
Some 850 troops died in 2004, mostly in larger, more conventional battles like the campaign to cleanse Fallujah of Sunni militants in November, and U.S. clashes with Shiite militiamen in the sect's holy city of Najaf in August.

A Vote for Justice
By CHARLES SCHUMER
I AM voting today to support Michael B. Mukasey for attorney general for one critical reason: the Department of Justice — once the crown jewel among our government institutions — is a shambles and is in desperate need of a strong leader, committed to depoliticizing the agency’s operations.
The department has been devastated under the Bush administration. Outstanding United States attorneys have been dismissed without cause; career civil-rights lawyers have been driven out in droves; people appear to have been prosecuted for political reasons; young lawyers have been rejected because they were not conservative ideologues; and politics has been allowed to infect decision-making.
We are now on the brink of a reversal. There is virtually universal agreement, even from those who oppose Judge Mukasey, that he would do a good job in turning the department around. My colleagues who oppose his confirmation have gone out of their way to praise his character and qualifications. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, Democrat of Rhode Island, for one, commended Judge Mukasey as “a brilliant lawyer, a distinguished jurist and by all accounts a good man.”

**...Some people have made the argument that if they don't do this producing work or this editing, that someone else will do it, and this act won't hurt the companies. I respectfully disagree. If we ALL stop ALL work tomorrow, the impact of this strike will be felt much more quickly, much more acutely and it most likely will end sooner, putting our writers, our cast and our crews back to work sooner!
I spent nearly 12 hours today in the Negotiation Room with the companies. I watched our side desperately try to make a deal. We gave up our request to increase revenue on DVD's, something that was very painful to give up, but something we felt we had to in order to get a deal made in new media, which is our future.
I watched as the company's representatives treated us horrendously, disrespectfully, and then walked out on us at 9:30 and then lied to the trades, claiming we had broken off negotiations.
I can't in good conscience fight these bastards with one hand, while operating an avid with the other. I am on strike and I am not working for them. PERIOD.
You will use your own instincts and consciences to decide your own actions. Hahahahahahahahahahaha. Thanks for the last laugh. I must go now. President Bush is having another victory party he wants us all to attend.

I think both Schumer and Feinstein will suffer for what they did in the next election.
And also Harry Reid.

So now that the country has undergone its collective tutorial on the torture technique waterboarding (see here, here, and here if you missed class), Congress is ready to begin voting on the nomination of Michael Mukasey for attorney general.
It's starts this morning with the Senate Judiciary Committee, where Sens. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), who both reason that the Bush Administration is not likely to offer a better nominee, are expected to provide the key swing votes to put him through.
And then it's on to the full Senate. As we've said before, that's always been a safer vote for Mukasey, because of the likely support of moderates. But that ease is by design, Roll Call reports (sub. req.), because Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) decided to play the nomination hands off. Reid himself made it easier on the troubled committee Dems but refraining from announcing his position on Mukasey (which he told The Washington Post was not "much of a secret"), and the circumstances of the vote will diminish any likely further controversy:
“He’s been encouraging people to have a full-throated debate, but ... he’s actually been discouraging people from filibustering or slowing down the nomination,” one knowledgeable Senate Democratic source said of Reid.
So it looks like there will be plenty of bluster aimed at satisfying civil liberties groups who are outraged that Mukasey won’t unequivocally say that he considers simulated drowning, or waterboarding, torture.
But in the end, a Democratic-led filibuster of the nominee is unlikely, given Reid’s hands-off approach to the nomination. Even if a few Democrats decided to erect a 60-vote threshold for Mukasey’s nomination, it’s not hard to imagine that 11 or more Democrats would vote with the chamber’s 49 Republicans to beat back the filibuster....
“With these kinds of nominations, it’s very hard to highlight a party position,” Reid spokesman Jim Manley said. He added, “This gets to the core of what the Senate is all about — the traditional role of advice and consent. ... In the end, it’s up to each individual Senator to decide how they’re going to vote on these nominees.”
But not to worry: there will be a kind of consolation prize for all those outraged civil liberties groups. Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-MA) will offer a bill that would specifically outlaw waterboarding -- so that even if we have an attorney general who hedges on whether it's torture, his hands would be tied.

kennedy is now spelling out what waterboarding
means and that it is already illegal...now schumer/specter want to pass a law to make it re-illegal
toniD schumer yes i have tortured him already
feinstein has money coming out of her arse! so she probably is safe which i pray not!
It isn't...
"why is waterboarding now up to congress to pass an amendment making it illegal."
It's just a talking point. More bobbing and weaving from the Bushies and their anon lackeys. Congress doesn't need to pass a law. We are signatories to the Geneva Conventions. End of story. That the anons pretend that the Conventions mean nothing in the "War on Terror" is misguided bullshit. They are making their choice and they choose to stand with Daddy Bush. We must torture because torture is cool. Jack Bauer and all our action heroes in Hollywood tell us so, so it must be true. If you torture a man he will give you all his secrets and we'll win the War on Terror. Ha ha.
BTW, troll, if you are wondering why Democratic representatives in Congress are considering approving this fool, it's becasue they're pussies, just like your Daddy.
schumer if you see him now
he has this sheepish look, he knows he fucked up and is in deep ca-ca
they're pussies
like in cats?--HA!!
Never Mind Bush and Cheney
How do we get rid of Blackwater? I'm worried they're going to stage a coup.

Kucinich not stopping with Cheney, plans Bush impeachment resolution tooJason Rhyne
Published: Tuesday November 6, 2007
Dark horse presidential hopeful Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH), who plans to bring an impeachment resolution against Vice President Dick Cheney to the House floor on Tuesday, says he is also planning a similar resolution to impeach President Bush.
The news came during a conference call Kucinich held with supporters Monday evening, although technical problems kept most on the call from being able to hear the congressman.
But activist David Swanson, who spoke directly with Kucinich during the call, summarized the contents of his conversation in an email:
"He is going to introduce a privileged resolution on the floor of the U.S. House Tuesday morning to force a vote on his resolution to impeach Cheney," confirmed Swamson. "While that bill includes offenses related to Iraq and Iran, Kucinich plans to focus his remarks on Iran and the fact that the current Pentagon bill includes funding to retrofit bombers to carry 15-ton bombs."
Concerning the possible resolution against Bush, Swanson said Kucinich "wanted to let everyone know that he will not only continue pushing for the impeachment of Cheney but will also take up the impeachment of Bush with a new resolution."
It's unclear as to when such a resolution would brought to the floor, or how dependent its introduction would be on the success of today's move against Cheney. The former Cleveland mayor will hold a press conference today at 3:00 p.m.
Swanson added that Kucinich was prepared for a debate on the substance of the charges against Cheney, but also mentioned the measure could be tabled --a move that effectively kills a pending matter by ending debate -- or sent to committee. If the latter option happens, the committee in question will be the House Judiciary.

U.S. Plan Envisioned Nuking
U.S. Plan Envisioned Nuking Iran, Syria, Libya
By Spencer Ackerman - November 5, 2007, 1:00PM
Despite years of denials, a secret planning document issued by the U.S. military's nuclear-weapons command in 2003 ordered preparations for nuclear strikes on countries seeking to acquire weapons of mass destruction, including Iran, Saddam Hussein-era Iraq, Libya and Syria.
A briefing (pdf) on the document obtained by the Federation of American Scientists, showed that the document itself was created to flesh out a 2001 Bush administration revision of long-standing nuclear-weapons policy, known as the Nuclear Posture Review. That review was a Defense Department-led attempt to wean nuclear policy off a Cold-War focus on Russia and China, but the shift raised questions about what purpose nuclear forces would serve apart from deterring an attack. In March 2002, leaks indicated that the review would recommend preparations for nuclear attacks against WMD-aspirant states. Arms Control Today pointed out at the time that planning to attack non-nuclear states that were signatories to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty reversed decades of U.S. nuclear policy.

It's only a Paper Coup
A ‘Paper Coup,’ and Blackwater Eyes Midtown Manhattan
by Naomi Wolf
Excerpt:
Increasingly, reputable figures are starting to talk about `a coup.’ Jim Hightower notes in an important essay, Is a Presidential Coup Under Way?,” that a coup is defined in the dictionary as a sudden forced change in the form of government. (He also spells out the basis for a rigorously modeled impeachment and criminal prosecution.) Daniel Ellsberg’s much-emailed speech on recent events notes that, in his view, a `coup’ has already taken place. Ron Rosenbaum speculates in an essay on Slate about the reasons the Bush administration is withholding even from members of Congress its plans for Continuity of Government in an emergency — noting that those worrying about a coup are no longer so marginal. Frank Rich notes the parallels between ourselves and the Good Germans. And Congress belatedly realizes as if waking from a drugged sleep that it might not be okay for the Attorney General to say the President need not obey the law. Congress may realize why Mukasey CAN’T say that `waterboarding is torture’ — the minute he does so he has laid the grounds for Bush, Cheney and any number of CIA and Blackwater interrogators to be tried and convicted for war crimes. They are so keenly aware that what they have been doing is criminal that laws such as the Military Commissions Act of 2006 have been drafted specifically to protect them and the torturers and murderers they have directed from criminal prosecution. That is why insisting that Mukasey say that waterboarding is torture is, in spite of the alarming apparent defection of Feinstein and Schumer, an important tactic and even the perfect opening for the impeachment bid that Kucinich is bringing on November 6th to be followed by Congressional investigations into possible criminality

Lavish televangelist lifestyles raise eyebrows at Senate Finance CommitteeJason Rhyne
Published: Tuesday November 6, 2007
The reportedly extravagant lifestyles of six television evangelists are raising some eyebrows at the Senate Finance Committee, which wants to know if the popular preachers are paying their fair share in taxes.
Sen. Charles Grassley, the committee's ranking Republican, has written letters to the evangelists, asking that they "disclose their assets, spending practices, compensation plans and business arrangements," according the Wall Street Journal's Suzanne Sataline. "The letters aren't formal subpoenas, and the six aren't required to reply."
Although religious organizations themselves are not required to pay federal taxes, any for-profit ventures a church may engage in are not similarly exempt.
"Mr. Grassley said his investigation was prompted by complaints from watchdog groups and others that the ministers live in multimillion-dollar homes, travel on private jets and engage in profit-making ventures from their ministries," reports the Journal, adding that the senator said he would withhold judgment until he got "the story from the ministries."
Evangelists receiving letters from Grassley were Kenneth Copeland, Creflo Dollar, Benny Hinn, Eddie Long, Joyce Meyer and Paula White. Spokespersons for Dollar, Hinn and Meyer all denied any wrongdoing in statements to CBS News.
CBS also reports that Sen. Grassley's letters were prompted in part by Ole Anthony, an investigator with the Trinity Foundation, a religious watchdog group that probes potential fraud among religious groups.

G'day, gang!
All's fine down at local dem HQ. Plenty of volunteers, drivers & go-fers around. So I just left the food I brought & my number in case they need extra transport or whatever. So many young ones nowadays...they're kids, really. It's very heartening to see them. Rainin' hard here & that holds down the vote a bit. But there's a ton of GOTV stuff: phones, door-knockin', etc. And they've added email & IM'ing this year, too, so it shouldn't effect the turn-out. [Sits up straight & preens a bit about the email & IM'ing. *snark* ]

Nice smackdown of the waterboarding troll, toni D[arlin] & 60th St.
Buchanan has been spewing that same crap incessantly for the past week & every panel/host has been bitch-slapping him about it, without nearly the aplomb you two just rendered. : )
Olbermann hit the point squarely last night on his Special Comment: The 3-letter boys & girls have waterboarded on Bush's watch & approval, there's a paper trail back to the oval office & Cheney, they KNOW that the underlings will squeal like stuck pigs if they're put under oath about who authorized it, and now...now...the neocons are panicing.
I love the smell of neocon panic in the morning!
----------------------
On a related note, rumor has it that Schumer is catching shit by the boatload over his Mukasey vote & could be waffling.
Feinstein, on the other hand, ain't said squat & has went underground. (She'll probably enter the SJC chamber under armed escort, the bitch.)
Since that committee is split 10-9 dem-to-puke it only takes one Benedict Arnold to move it up to a full floor vote.
I'm holding Dodd's feet to the fire -- EVERY. FUCKING. DAY. -- about his promise to filibuster Mukasey.
turns my stomach
all this talk of torture and waterboarding, is casting a pall on everything I do and think and do not have it in me to follow the mukasey thing taking place today - just watched KO special comment and had to take a break and try clear my head for a while
i am too disgusted
didn't mukasey himself say that torture is repugnant. Why doesn't he have any qualms about turning our country into a repugnant country in the eyes of the world? Why don't Schumer and Feinstein and all the repubs care about turning us into repugnant territory
to give cover to the criminal conspiracy to protect the criminal president says KO
feinstein says keep
hope alive--oh but code pink demz der!!
Someone doesn't like
What Feinstein just said.
A little commotion in the room.
Now up is the closeted Lindsey Graham.
Cat Chew
ma bad!! am at home and the screen does not show names brightly!--lindsay graham says he would have said something good about feinstein but does not want to hurt her back home...oh and the beautiful smile she gave him!
I love the smell of neocon panic in the morning!
Hahahahahahahahha. Didn't the big fool say this about Fitzmas. About Gore. About Kerry. About Impeachment. About Iraq. Hahahahahahahahahahaha. You should kick this on out of the 3%. Hahahahahahahaha.
That Naomi Wolf article is f'n scary as hell
And I'm not a Hillary basher but one of her top advisors works as a lawyer for Blackwater? wtf?
Linsey thanks Schumer
for referring Bush to Mukasey. That locks it with the Dems that Schumer is a turncoat!
Great
Lindsey writing a letter to Condi about torture is about the same as him sending one to Larry Craig to ask if his ass looks big in those pants.
Lindsay Graham bartie boy
trying to make sense out of nonsense---
Nice Report L@L!
Thanks for that! I hope Schumer and Feinstein can live with themselves for turning yella on this most basic of "Nay" votes. Caving to the likes of Pat Buchanan is as soft as it gets.
I was just talking with a friend about the likelihood of a Republican bringing up the resolution to make waterboarding illegal to cover the Administration's ass. Now that would be "up is down, black is white," special, wouldn't it? Why not? How could the Democrrats NOT vote for that? Alll bets are off with this crowd. they might just be stupid enough to fall for this nonsense
Conyers files contempt
Conyers files contempt report; says White House has one last chance

White House says 'futile' contempt filing 'won't go anywhere'
House Judiciary Chairman John Conyers (D-MI) filed a report today holding that two White House officials are in contempt of Congress for their continued refusal to honor subpoenas in connection with the controversial firing of US attorneys last year -- but he's offering one last chance to make a deal.
In a Monday letter to White House Counsel Fred Fielding, Conyers wrote that he would be officially filing submitting the contempt report, a move which would allow the full House to later vote on the measure, but would stop the contempt process there if the White House would agree to a final compromise offer.
“I have written to you on eight previous occasions attempting to reach agreement on this matter,” Conyers says in the letter. “As we submit the Committee’s contempt report to the full House, I am writing one more time to seek to resolve this issue on a cooperative basis.”
The 862-page contempt resolution was filed with the House clerk Monday afternoon.
But White House Press Secretary Dana Perino told reporters that an effort to bring a contempt citation to a vote was "futile."
"I'm just amazed that the Democrats actually think they've accomplished so much on behalf of the American people that they can now waste time again on another diversion," she said. "I don't know if they'll actually have a vote on the House floor or not. If they do, I guess we'll just take it from there. But it's been very clear that this is a futile attempt on their part, because they know that it won't go anywhere."
In July, Conyers had written Fielding to inform him that White House Chief of Staff Joshua Bolten and former White House Counsel Harriet Miers could be held in contempt for refusing to comply with subpoenas seeking documents and testimony as part of a House Judiciary probe into the firing of nine US attorneys. President Bush had earlier blocked those requests, citing executive privilege.
In order to prevent further action on the contempt measure, Conyers is requesting that the White House provide communications documents pertaining to the firings, including internal White House materials, and asking that White House staffers be allowed to conduct private interviews -- albeit not under oath -- with the House Judiciary Committee.
