What they're not saying...

is that Dems NEVER lead republicans in fund raising...and that this is quite unprecedented...

Democrats Surpass Republicans in Fund-Raising

Senator Barack Obama, the Illinois Democrat, raised at least $20 million over the summer, more than $19 million of which could be spent on the primary — showing that he continued to be a formidable fund-raiser. It was unclear whether he still led in fund-raising, as he did this spring, because Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton did not release her tally. (Her aides had said that they expected to raise a similar amount.) John Edwards raised $7 million, and Gov. Bill Richardson of New Mexico raised $5.2 million.

Strategists in both parties said that the fund-raising imbalance showed that Democrats, and their donors, are more energized this year as they battle to reclaim the White House after nearly eight years of Republican rule. And they said President Bush’s sagging popularity is hurting the Republicans who are vying to replace him.

The way of the dinosaur...

GOP Is Losing Grip On Core Business Vote

WASHINGTON -- The Republican Party, known since the late 19th century as the party of business, is losing its lock on that title.

New evidence suggests a potentially historic shift in the Republican Party's identity -- what strategists call its "brand." The votes of many disgruntled fiscal conservatives and other lapsed Republicans are now up for grabs, which could alter U.S. politics in the 2008 elections and beyond.

Some business leaders are drifting away from the party because of the war in Iraq, the growing federal debt and a conservative social agenda they don't share. In manufacturing sectors such as the auto industry, some Republicans want direct government help with soaring health-care costs, which Republicans in Washington have been reluctant to provide. And some business people want more government action on global warming, arguing that a bolder plan is not only inevitable, but could spur new industries...

Lol...

This is going to be FUN!

Former Presidents Can't Withhold Records

WASHINGTON (AP) - Presidents don't have indefinite veto power over which records are made public after they've left office, a federal judge ruled Monday.

In a narrowly crafted ruling, U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly invalidated part of President Bush's 2001 executive order, which allowed former presidents and vice presidents to review executive records before they are released under the Freedom of Information Act.

By law, the National Archives has the final say over the release of presidential records and Kollar-Kotelly ruled that Bush's executive order ``effectively eliminates'' that discretion. It allows former presidents to delay the release of records ``presumably indefinitely,'' she said.

The judge ordered the National Archives not to withhold any more documents based on that section of the executive order.

Guess what?

Trickle down...

3 strikes...you're out!

Would someone taser the Penguin?

Unless it goes to The Unsupreme Court !

Lol...

Iranian and Israeli news outlets are reporting that Russia has evacuated its entire staff of nuclear engineers and experts who were working at the Bushehr nuclear reactor, increasing speculation that the United States is preparing an imminent military attack on Iran.

According to the Khorramshar News Agency, which represents ethnic Arabs in opposition to Ahmadinejad's regime who live near the reactor, the Russians packed their bags and left on Friday.

Obama to Urge Elimination of World’s Nuclear Weapons

WASHINGTON, Oct. 1 — Senator Barack Obama will propose on Tuesday setting a goal of eliminating all nuclear weapons in the world, saying the United States should greatly reduce its stockpiles to lower the threat of nuclear terrorism, aides say.

In a speech at DePaul University in Chicago, Mr. Obama will add his voice to a plan endorsed earlier this year by a bipartisan group of former government officials from the cold war era who say the United States must begin building a global consensus to reverse a reliance on nuclear weapons that have become “increasingly hazardous and decreasingly effective.”

Congress Poised to Strip 2nd Amendment Rights

Source: Thought Criminal

H.R.2640 has passed the House with an unrecorded voice vote, and is slated to enter the Senate under a unanimous consent agreement to limit debate. This will, in effect, steamroll the passage of a bill that will serve to strip 2nd Amendment liberties away from citizens diagnosed with mental illnesses.

The bill aims to ease the transfer of mental health records into the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) database. It will effectively criminalize "a person [who] has been adjudicated as mentally defective or committed to a mental institution" and permanently revoke their ability to own or purchase a firearm. This overly-broad term will criminalize a wide range of mental illnesses, including ADHD, Alzheimer's Syndrome, or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Another source of data will be the records of students identified with behavioral disabilities under the IDEA Program.

This bill is being referred to as the "McCarthy Bill" and is on its way to the Senate floor. Please let your Senator know your feelings about this unjust bill that aims to deprive citizens of their liberties without due process and further stigmatize our veterans and other people with mental health disorders.

The Lobby on Trial

It seems to have fallen down the memory hole or been consigned to the purgatory of forgotten news stories: the indictment of Steve Rosen nd Keith Weissman, two top officials of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). More than three years ago, the news that Rosen, the number-one lobbyist for Israel in Washington, and his sidekick Weissman had been indicted for violating the Espionage Act, for handing over top-secret intelligence to Israeli embassy officials, broke like a thunderclap over official Washington. Today, its echoes have petered out almost entirely, as news of the case has sunk so far beneath the media's radar that developments in what is an important and fascinating story are no longer reported. I'll do my best to rectify that.

But first, one has to wonder, why is the veil of silence being drawn over this extraordinary affair? After all, the story involves what Time magazine called "among the most politically charged espionage cases in years" – surely a newsworthy topic. Why no follow-up?

It's very odd. Don't forget that AIPAC, the premier pro-Israel lobby in the country and one of the most powerful and feared of Washington's movers and shakers, was subjected to no less than two humiliating FBI raids on its Washington offices: desks were searched and emptied and computers carted away, while a cordon of agents prevented anyone or anything from leaving or entering the area until the operation was over. All AIPAC employees were, presumably, questioned. You don't see that kind of action unless there is something very substantial behind it.

Supreme Injustices..

It is not often in the law that so few have so quickly changed so much.
–U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer

The addition of Justices Roberts and Alito swung the Supreme Court dramatically to the right. Hosted by Emmy-award winning actor Bradley Whitford, Supreme Injustices examines the impact of the first full term of the Roberts Court. Through an exploration of the personal stories behind two of this term’s most controversial cases, addressing the legal of Brown v. Board of Education, workers and civil rights, we learn just how much power the Supreme Court has to affect the lives of ordinary Americans.

This year the Supreme Court turned back the clock on many of our fundamental rights and liberties; will Americans sit by and let them do it again next term?

Hillary blames Gore at YKos

"She depicted welfare reform as a net gain and then ducked the Telecommunications Act altogether, telling attendees she was no expert and "you'll have to ask Al Gore" about it, since he oversaw the issue for the White House. Trying to pin one of her husband's controversial policies on Al Gore--the antiwar, green, tech-savvy hero of the blogosphere--at a netroots convention is probably the single most tone-deaf thing Clinton has done this year, but few attendees appeared to dwell on it."
