Clark audio tomorrow

we got a glitch and the audio will come tomorrow. On second listen, he doesn't suggest anything but diplomacy re: Iran but he definitely is asserting that Iran is the biggest source of "mischief" in Iraq. I don't know that not to be the case, but short of Joe Lieberman, I don't recall hearing that assertion in other quarters. As opposed to Lieberman, however,  he says that Iran's involvement is not necessarily militarily, but social..

Dedicated to the deconstruction of the Democratic Party.

The American Left may not be much, but it won't be anything at all until it ditches the Democrats.

I saw a link to Alan Smithee's blog there. Remember Alan Smithee? He used to post here.

Certainly would be quicker.

Think atrios's line of "more 'n better" (emphasis on better) Dems is apt.

But Dems, in their present lickspittle incarnation, it must be conceded, certainly are, by 'n large, w/a few exceptions, a buncha worthless embarrassing fucks.

thanks, jew

when are you gonna give me the keys to the blog

: )

Hey MMRules

Are you familiar with Cris White, aka istothehalfabee or just Isto?

"and impatient" take 2

So I guess that I'll have to entertain myself...

Back to the debate as to why the Dems don't push harder...

Beyond the money which has ever more been dangled out in right field, there's always the matter of those that did go for and get the money in the past being more ideologically compatible with the right. Yes Virginia, some Democrats are neocons too...and they've been there long enough to positions themselves as power players within Democratic party.

At one time my best guess was that there were 22 of them that were decidedly right wing so it's no surprise to me when 25 of them jump ship. Now rather than dismiss an entire party because of these few bad apples how do we dismiss them without diluting what power we do have and making it even easier for the right wingnuts from derailing any progress?

Well this brings me to one of my pet peeves with the democrats...Why the hell do their political advisors and campaign strategists always seem to agree with or advise towards a strategy that benefits the republicans?...many of them later appearing on faux news as talking heads?

My guess here is that much like the media ownership in this country by the right that the public relations firms are also owned or that because of their paychecks they simply side with the supply siders who will benefit their high incomes.

Back to what to do about it...

In the short term and both in the case of high power neocons in Dem clothing and the PR firms, we need to identify and isolate them from the party as a whole, provide counter pressure to their campaigns. In this environment simply calling them for what they are will suffice.

In the long term...Those neocons in Dems clothing need to be pushed out the same way Lieberman was...We simply can not afford that type of infiltration. Those PR co's will swear fealty to whichever way the wind blows but will turn the very moment it's in their economic interest...They are corporations after all. So we have to get our own people in those positions, own those types of things ourselves. We need young money.

Ok, enough rambling for the moment...Can't read what anyone else is writing while I type...That bugs me...

Those same crazed militants that took over the republican party started when they were pretty young and made a lifetimes work out of it.

We need the same type of commitment from our youth but unfortunately I think that a lot of our youth are spending too much time being the cool kids...

We don't just need voters, activists...we need kids to get into the media, to get into PR firms, to get into government, any and every position of power...

They must as all generations before them take up the yoke of responsibility and change this world...You can be assured that the bad guys are raising their children to do just that...Only thing is the change they seek very well may be fatal for life on this planet.

I think that even that miniscule 29% is probably manufactured.

The right welcomed the crazy fundies and righty libertarians. They used them, catered to them. Funny how the real conservatives lost control. Kind of justice, in a way. But liberals and progressives are fought against by the corporate Democrats. Except for "lesser of two evils liberals and progressives," tha aren't really liberal or progressive, and who will fall in line and elect anyone who calls themselves a Democrat.

Syria

Hawks, notably former US ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton, are concerned by the peaceful direction in which the six-party talks on North Korea's nuclear program are going, preferring confrontation.

Joshua Landis, a professor at Oklahoma University who is an expert on Syrian affairs and runs Syriacomment.com, said: "Bolton represents the crowd that is very distressed that the US has declared defeat in North Korea by trusting the North Koreans. They would like to scuttle that agreement."

A diplomat associated with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) was quoted saying that the organization didn't know anything about any nuclear facility in Syria.

Buthaina Shaaban, Syria's minister of expatriate affairs, commented to Al-Manar TV, "All this rubbish is not true. I don't know how their imagination has reached such creativity." She added, "Regretfully, the international press is busy justifying an aggression on a sovereign state, and the world should be busy condemning it instead of inventing reasons and aims of this aggression."

The North Korea-Syria story started when Andrew Semmel of the US State Department claimed that Syria "might have" obtained nuclear equipment from "secret suppliers", adding that "there are North Korean people there [in Syria]. There is no question about that."

He repeated claims, made as early as 2004, that a network run by Abdul Qadeer Khan, the now-disgraced Pakistani nuclear scientist who is believed to have supplied gas centrifuges and uranium hexaflouride to North Korea, operated from Syria. But there is no evidence whatsoever - otherwise it would have surfaced - of the Khan network operating from Syrian territory.

Journalists in the US took it from there

Lebanon

While we will never know who actually masterminded this murder-such cases stretching back many years have never been solved by Lebanese investigators, usually for political reasons-it did not take long for accusations to be bandied about.

Live on TV, several MPs and officials from March 14 stated clearly that "everyone" knows who is behind not only this heinous murder, but all the others of the past two and a half years: Syria. Saad Hariri even, bizarrely, accused Syria of assassinating Ghanim in retaliation for Israel's recent aerial strike in Syrian territory. Some March 14 politicians also seized the opportunity to openly accuse any opposition MP who does not attend the 25 September parliamentary session of treason, and thus indirectly of being complicit with Ghanim's assassination.

Lebanese opposition figures and Syrian spokesmen, who had all unequivocally condemned yesterday's terrorist act, angrily rejected such logic and accused anyone who took advantage of this tragedy for political gains of fomenting discord and serving "foreign" interests. For them, these attacks on March 14 MPs always come conveniently whenever the momentum seems to be swinging away from US and Israeli interests and towards internal consensus.

Progressive Majority

From Progressive Majority:

We are the nation's only political organization dedicated exclusively to electing progressive champions at the state and local levels.

Progressive Majority is not giving conservatives a chance to regroup. We haven't let up on recruiting and electing progressives.

Progressive Majority is recruiting, training and electing a new breed of candidates — leaders willing to stand up and fight for what matters.

Progressive Majority is focused not just on the next election, but on building a progressive political movement that will elect an enduring majority for years to come.

We know that the way to accomplish this goal is to begin locally, where politics matter most.

To support this work, in 2004 we launched the Candidate Recruitment and Development Program, Progressive Majority's main vehicle to recruit, train, and elect the next generation of progressive political leaders.

The other great American passtime.

Lebanon's top Shiite Muslim cleric expressed fears Sunday that a US-sponsored peace conference in the late autumn would serve instead as a cover for renewed aggression by the United States and Israel.

Grand Ayatollah Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah also charged that the United States had given Israel the green light to destroy Hamas-controlled Gaza by supporting its decision last week to designate the strip a "hostile territory."

"We fear that the American peace conference that Bush has called for in the fall would be a cover for a new American-Israeli aggression in the region and would constitute the basis for another military adventure," Fadlallah said in an announcement.

Fadlallah, the top religious authority for Lebanon's 1.2 million Shiites, warned Arab countries against "directly or indirectly joining this game."

We'll be friends with the Sunnis this time around. Ain't divisive realpolitiking and civil war fomenting grand?

And another thing about that 29%...

"Btw has anyone else noted that these new lows in approval always stop at 29%?...How can you keep moving downward and yet remain in the same place?"

29% of people polled. Who was polled? A random sampling of Republicans. Or something equally misleading.

You can be sure that it isn't 29% of eligible voters, because about half of eligible voters don't vote. 26 - 30% of voters wins the elction. That's called what we call the majority.

Well, you know what they say

The problem of equal protection in election processes generally presents many complexities.

I don't know...

Today has just been a very strange day in the midst of a strange week, month, year, decade...like a nested doll of strangeness...The faces change ever so slightly with each iteration and yet remain intrinsically strange and malformed...growing ever more so as each is worn from pulling one smaller out of the larger...Even the pretty colors begin to flake away...as I sit hoping that this is the final doll and that there will be none yet more hideous yet to come.

In the smallest fraction of time I sit, simply fascinated.

A Feeling I'm Being Had

Those Iranians need to learn from the American example. In this
country, if the clear majority of the public opposes the continuation of a war, our
leaders will tell us we're terrorist-humping idiots and do whatever they
damn well please. They might even increase our taxes to do it. That's
called leadership.

If Ahmadinejad thinks he can be our friend by honoring our heroes and
opening a dialog, he underestimates our ability to misinterpret him.
Fucking idiot. I hate him.

Report: Cheney may have mulled pushing Israel to hit Iran

Newsweek Magazine reported Sunday that Vice President Richard Cheney may have considered a plan for Israeli missile strikes against an Iranian nuclear site in an effort to draw a military response from Iran, which could in turn spark a U.S. offensive against targets in the Islamic Republic.

Citing two unnamed sources the magazine called knowledgeable, the magazine quoted David Wurmser, until last month Cheney's Middle East advisor, as having told a small group of people that "Cheney had been mulling the idea of pushing for limited Israeli missile strikes against the Iranian nuclear site at Natanz - and perhaps other sites - in order to provoke Tehran into lashing out."

I think that this may be a part of their tactic to render us unable to fight back...By overwhelming us with such stupendous levels of insanity we're left standing jaws agape, incredulously looking on as idiocy is piled upon idiocy as the moral and ethical infrastructure crumbles around us.

They stand back and lob stupid bomb after stupid bomb at us....Each presidential news conference is another laser guided mother of all stupid bombs landing smack dab in the middle what's left of reason.

There is obviously strength in stupidity as this adminstration has proven as they stand there bleeding from the last election, saying..."Didn't hurt. We am be strongerest. We am be stupidier than all!"

Military Is 'Baiting' Insurgents In Iraq

A Pentagon group has encouraged some U.S. military snipers in Iraq to target suspected insurgents by scattering pieces of "bait," such as detonation cords, plastic explosives and ammunition, and then killing Iraqis who pick up the items, according to military court documents.

The classified program was described in investigative documents related to recently filed murder charges against three snipers who are accused of planting evidence on Iraqis they killed.

"Baiting is putting an object out there that we know they will use, with the intention of destroying the enemy," Capt. Matthew P. Didier, the leader of an elite sniper scout platoon attached to the 1st Battalion of the 501st Infantry Regiment, said in a sworn statement. "Basically, we would put an item out there and watch it. If someone found the item, picked it up and attempted to leave with the item, we would engage the individual as I saw this as a sign they would use the item against U.S. Forces."

In documents obtained by The Washington Post from family members of the accused soldiers, Didier said members of the the U.S. military's Asymmetric Warfare Group visited his unit in January and later passed along ammunition boxes filled with the "drop items" to be used "to disrupt the AIF attempts at harming Coalition Forces and give us the upper hand in a fight."

Post-9/11 Cases Draw Criticism for Nominee

WASHINGTON, Sept. 23 — The 21-year-old Jordanian immigrant was in shackles when he was brought into the courtroom of Judge Michael B. Mukasey in Federal District Court in Manhattan.

It was Oct. 2, 2001, and the prisoner, Osama Awadallah, then a college student in San Diego with no criminal record, was one of dozens of Arab men detained around the country in the days after the Sept. 11 attacks as potential witnesses in the terrorism investigation.

Before the hearing, Mr. Awadallah told his lawyer that he had been beaten in the federal detention center in Manhattan, producing bruises that were hidden beneath his orange prison jumpsuit. But when his lawyer told this to Judge Mukasey, the judge seemed little concerned.

“As far as the claim that he was beaten, I will tell you that he looks fine to me,” said Judge Mukasey, who was nominated by President Bush last week to be his third attorney general and is now facing Senate confirmation hearings. “You want to have him examined, you can make an application. If you want to file a lawsuit, you can file a civil lawsuit.”

Even though Mr. Awadallah was not charged at the time with any crime and had friends and family in San Diego who would vouch that he had no terrorist ties, Judge Mukasey ordered that he be held indefinitely, a ruling he made in the cases of several other so-called material witnesses in the Sept. 11 investigations. A prison medical examination later identified the bruises across his body.

Medical Supply Chain Decries US Attorney General Alberto Gonzales' Investigation of General Electric

General Electric satisfied the government investigation by canceling its planned purchase of Abbott Laboratories Inc. (ABT) for $8.3 billion dollars on July 12th 2007, abandoning plans to further the monopoly in key aluminum product segments by withdrawing underwriting for Alcoa, Inc. (AA) to purchase Alcan, Inc. (AL) against mining giant Rio Tinto's bid of $38.1 billion dollars on July 13th 2007. Finally, General Electric and its CEO Jeffrey Immelt on July 16th 2007 signaled their intent to sell off GE Capital, the General Electric unit most directly involved in the misconduct. GE Capital will retain liability for any conduct injuring United Airlines employees.

General Electric's alleged co-conspirator in Medical Supply Chain's civil litigation, US Bancorp (USB) was forced to divest its subsidiary US Bancorp Piper Jaffray February 19th 2003 when Lipari's civil litigation exposed Piper Jaffray's continuing role in extortion and monopolization of securities underwriting for healthcare technology companies allowed to enter the hospital supply market controlled by Novation LLC.

Samuel Lipari cautions that General Electric's bargain may satisfy US Attorney General Alberto Gonzales but does not stop Samuel Lipari's private civil litigation claims or Samuel Lipari's False Claims Act investigation of General Electric's role as a co-conspirator with Novation LLC and US Bancorp to artificially inflate healthcare costs paid by Medicare and Medicaid.

Novation LLC is a hospital supplier in Irving, Texas and was created in 1998 by two networks of non-profit hospitals, VHA Inc, of Irving, Texas, and University Health System Consortium of Oak Brook, Illinois. Between them they control more than 2,000 hospitals and health care facilities.

"What we've got here is failure to communicate.
Some men you just can't reach...
So, you get what we had here last week,
which is the way he wants it!
Well, he gets it!
N' I don't like it any more than you men." *

Look at your young men fighting
Look at your women crying
Look at your young men dying
The way they've always done before

Look at the hate we're breeding
Look at the fear we're feeding
Look at the lives we're leading
The way we've always done before

My hands are tied
The billions shift from side to side
And the wars go on with brainwashed pride
For the love of God and our human rights
And all these things are swept aside
By bloody hands time can't deny
And are washed away by your genocide
And history hides the lies of our civil wars

D'you wear a black armband
When they shot the man
Who said "Peace could last forever"
And in my first memories
They shot Kennedy
I went numb when I learned to see
So I never fell for Vietnam
We got the wall of D.C. to remind us all
That you can't trust freedom
When it's not in your hands
When everybody's fightin'
For their promised land

And
I don't need your civil war
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor
Your power hungry sellin' soldiers
In a human grocery store
Ain't that fresh
I don't need your civil war

Look at the shoes your filling
Look at the blood we're spilling
Look at the world we're killing
The way we've always done before
Look in the doubt we've wallowed
Look at the leaders we've followed
Look at the lies we've swallowed
And I don't want to hear no more

My hands are tied
For all I've seen has changed my mind
But still the wars go on as the years go by
With no love of God or human rights
'Cause all these dreams are swept aside
By bloody hands of the hypnotized
Who carry the cross of homicide
And history bears the scars of our civil wars

"We practice selective annihilation of mayors
And government officials
For example to create a vacuum
Then we fill that vacuum
As popular war advances
Peace is closer" **

I don't need your civil war
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor
Your power hungry sellin' soldiers
In a human grocery store
Ain't that fresh
And I don't need your civil war
I don't need your civil war
I don't need your civil war
Your power hungry sellin' soldiers
In a human grocery store
Ain't that fresh
I don't need your civil war
I don't need one more war

I don't need one more war
Whaz so civil 'bout war anyway

bob! - bob! - have you seen...

Leavin' to go fishin' here directly. Salmons is in the rivers.

Gonna take a break from the blog for a spell. When I starts to gettin' prickly w/Crank, reckon it's time to put the stock in the barn for a time.

Thought I'd share a portion of a letter I wrote to a reporter who requested background for a story she did about Rose and her time volunteering at a center for mentally disabled young adults.

Be well all.

dr

--------
I apologize for the off-the-cuff nature of my reply, but the short notice and the nature of the request brings back a flood of memories, and frankly it isn't easy focusing. I'll do my best to answer your questions for the article. Also, I've included a coupla pics of Rose at Special Pops as attachments, which you are welcome to use if so inclined.

Rose and I both volunteered at Special Populations, but Rose was by far the more active. "Special Pops" is an organization that moved our hearts, Rose's especially. When Rose visited Special Pops, she always felt good, like she received as much joy from the young adults as she endeavored to give w/her bubbly good cheer and sparkling humor. Her heartfelt concern for all the Special Pops young adults was evident, and I believe they shared a special affection for her as well.

One testament of her committment: Rose spent many hours designing costumes and writing plays, which were enthusiastically performed by her and our two pound-pup Labrador-mixes, Albee and Pepper (after Albee died in 2003 -- a heartbreaking loss for Rose -- Huckie, a catahoula pound-pup, was pressed into canine thespian duty).

Shakespeare, Tchaikovsky, holiday-themed pageants, anything was fair game for Rose's Special Pops performances. Whatever theme she chose, it was always a surprise and a delight for her audience, filled with pratfalls and action and verbal jousting, and the Special Pops guys were never shy about showing their boisterous appreciation. Which was probably the greatest gift they could've given her.

Whenever she could, Rose would draft myself and/or friends into becoming impromptu street-bards as well. A raucous performance of "Swan Lake" might star a wet-nosed tongue-lolling Labrador as the Swan Princess Odette, gaily attired in tu-tu, leotard and tiara, frolicking w/madcap canine abandon, w/Rose acting as impresario and master of ceremonies. To everyone's immense satisfaction.

.

Everyone thrilled at these antic performances, partly b/c Rose and the dogs brought such energy and brio and unpredictability to each performance, but partly b/c the young adults sensed how strongly Rose wanted to bring joy to their hearts.

Writing and performing these plays was no easy task for her either, b/c Rose suffered from lupus, a disease that drastically saps a person's energy (among other horrible conditions; shooting, stabbing leg pains were Rose's frequent unwanted visitor). Consequently, Rose would conserve her energy for days so that she could be "on" for the Special Pops gang. She would return home utterly exhausted and sleep for hours. But her heart would be full.

The young adults at Special Pops gave so much to Rose that was inexpressible. Nor was there ever any artifice or calculation in the warmth of their smiles or the spirit of their laughter -- just pure expressions of joy and mirth and even love. Part of what Rose loved so much about the young adults of Special Populations was the purity and freedom of their emotions. If they felt joy, they expressed it. If they saw humor, they laughed w/o restraint. (If they didn't like something, they expressed that, too, w/o reservation.)

.

B/c Rose herself possessed a child-like glee and loved nothing more than to share unconcealed bliss, she felt a strong emotional bond to her kindred spirits at Special Pops.

Rose always said she knew only one thing truly: how to love. She felt that too often folks who have disabilities become invisible. Like they don't even exist. Or worse, like they are shunned. But Rose could see the beauty inside. Rose sought out the beauty inside. Of everyone. Especially those who were most likely to be forgotten. (She and I also visited nursing homes w/the dogs around holidays.)

Rose had a unique gift that she shared w/everyone who really knew her, everyone she cared about: when she was w/you, she was fully engaged, and she made you feel like you were uniquely special. It sounds hokey, but it's true.

I remember a year-end Special Pops dance that she and I attended once. Rose was suffering from fatigue brought on by her lupus that night (it was difficult for her to muster energy in the evenings, when she was typically tired). The dance was in the evening, of course, and all of the young men wanted to dance w/Rose.

One after another, many repeatedly, Rose danced until I thought she would collapse. It was a marathon effort for her, but she danced w/all who wanted to dance, all the while beaming w/that radiant smile of hers that lit up the room and made you feel so special.

During the short drive home that night, she fell asleep in the car, exhausted. Waking up in the driveway, she looked at me w/eyes sparkling and said: "That was a beautiful night, wasn't it, Dave-O?" Yes, it was.

One of her favorite quotes is from the children's classic The Little Prince by Antoine de St. Exupery:

"On ne voit bien qu'avec le coeur. L'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux."
(It is only w/the heart one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.)

This quote is the essence of who she was. Who she is.

Rose made people laugh. She made them smile. She made them care. She had a gift and she shared it. Unstintingly. Rose was unique. Her warm loving spirit, full of goofy fun and playful humor, animates all whom she touched, and we are all the better for it.

It's still hard to believe she's gone. I miss her terribly.

Seven CIA Veterans Challenge 9/11 Commission Report

by Alan Miller

Official Account of 9/11 a “Joke” and a “Cover-up”.

September 23, 2007 – Seven CIA veterans have severely criticized the official account of 9/11 and have called for a new investigation. “I think at simplest terms, there’s a cover-up. The 9/11 Report is a joke,” said Raymond McGovern, 27-year veteran of the CIA, who chaired National Intelligence Estimates during the seventies. “There are a whole bunch of unanswered questions. And the reason they’re unanswered is because this administration will not answer the questions,” he said. McGovern, who is also the founder of VIPS (Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity), is one of many signers of a petition to reinvestigate 9/11.[1]

During his 27-year CIA career, McGovern personally delivered intelligence briefings to Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, their Vice Presidents, Secretaries of State, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and many other senior government officials. Upon retirement in 1990, McGovern was awarded the CIA’s Intelligence Commendation Medallion and received a letter of appreciation from then President George H. W. Bush. However, McGovern returned the award[2] in 2006 in protest of the current George W. Bush Administration’s advocacy and use of torture.

In his blurb for 9/11 and American Empire: Intellectuals Speak Out,” edited by David Ray Griffin and Peter Dale Scott, McGovern wrote[3]: “It has long been clear that the Bush-Cheney administration cynically exploited the attacks of 9/11 to promote its imperial designs. But the present volume confronts us with evidence for an even more disturbing conclusion: that the 9/11 attacks were themselves orchestrated by this administration precisely so they could be thus exploited. If this is true, it is not merely the case, as the Downing Street memos show, that the stated reason for attacking Iraq was a lie. It is also the case that the whole “war on terror” was based on a prior deception. This book hence confronts the American people---indeed the people of the world as a whole---with an issue second to none in importance and urgency. I give this book, which in no way can be dismissed as the ravings of ‘paranoid conspiracy theorists,’ my highest possible recommendation.”

William Christison, a 29-year CIA veteran, former National Intelligence Officer (NIO) and former Director of the CIA's Office of Regional and Political Analysis also describes the 9/11 Commission Report as a “joke” and offers even more outspoken criticism. In a 2006 audio interview[4] he said, "We very seriously need an entirely new very high level and truly independent investigation of the events of 9/11. I think you almost have to look at the 9/11 Commission Report as a joke and not a serious piece of analysis at all.”

Mr. Bubble

Mr Bubble continues his assault on Democrats
by Chris in Paris · 9/23/2007 07:19:00 PM ET

If the sub-prime lending problems and looming banking crisis were not problems created during his tenure it could perhaps be easier to listen to this guy but he's been about as accurate on the economy as Cheney was on the war with Iraq. Wow, has anyone ever been so far off so many times? Worse still, he can't even accept his own responsibility for the past problems, not to mention what's up ahead. Uh huh, he was the great savior to us all with two ugly economic bubbles under his belt and a fresh banking crisis on the way. Mr Bubble's failure to provide any reasonable regulation or oversight and being bamboozled by the Wall Street easy money pitch makes him look more pathetic with each interview he gives.

Mr. Bubble is still preaching the values of free trade which sure, in theory sound great and certainly there are benefits to freer trade but just as we are nowhere near a free market economy or a true democracy for that matter, free trade needs to be properly monitored and regulated. Finding a balance is not such a bad idea and if that's what Hillary and other Democrats are seeking, that sounds perfectly reasonable. If only Mr Bubble spent so much time talking about the decreasing middle class and the sickening compensation plans for the elite few at the top, his arguments might also resonate a bit better with regular Americans.

If he actually knew anyone trying to get by he just might learn that these days, it's all about finding a balance and not his tired old "let the market decide" and "free trade" rubbish. I sure hope he stays available for interviews when Northern Rock comes to America so he can tell us again how it was the fault of someone else.

Reform or revolution

Both the Democratic and Republican Parties are committed to the American Empire and to the conquest of Iraq.

A section of the ruling class is concerned that popular discontent could coalesce into a generalized rebellion against the system. This happened after World War I, in the 1930s and again in the 1960s.

There are only two solutions to such crises: reform from above to restore confidence in the system or revolution from below to replace it. Let’s examine...

These Pain Management Specialists are drug dealers to the rich. If you wonder why there’s a war on drugs that’s why. So doctors can get rich and the rich can have their drugs. Also, America is insane, which means if you’re not insane, you must be mad.

I need strong, organic hashish for this TERRIBLE NAUSEA, but all I can score is “synthetic cannaboids,” “plastic pot” for $30 a pill. It wasn’t the war “against” drugs, it was the war “versus” drugs, and BigPharma won, in the short term, over nature. "World War-I"....yep, Socialists won 3% of the vote with Eugene V Debs, then were flanked by FDR who created the New Deal and ended dreams of the revolution.

"the 1930s"....yep, lotta college kids (proto-bloggers) and Walter Duranty thought Stalin was a great guy and that "once Roosevelt fails, the REAL Revolution will come". Later in the 1950s, they either lost their jobs or recanted.

"the 1960s"....yep, lot MORE college kids protested, took to the streets, got George McGovern the Dem nomination in 1972...

and Nixon won 49 states. Later in the 70s, most of them got stoned and created disco....later, later in the 80s, they all settled down and became Yuppies and voted for Reagan.

Such is the nature of the "rebellions against the system"!

Bush Prepares to Pass Baton to Hillary

Bush Prepares to Pass Baton to Hillary

by Paul Hogarth‚ Sep. 24‚ 2007

The Washington Post this weekend reported an off-the-record meeting that President Bush had at the White House with various pundits, where he predicted that Hillary Clinton will be the next President. Bush is shaping his legacy, said the Post, and is planning to make it feasible for his successor to keep us in Iraq.

It’s a sharp contrast with Hillary’s support among Democratic voters, who think she’s more likely to get us out of Iraq and are more likely to view her as “liberal” than John Edwards or Barack Obama. But if you parse Hillary’s statements, she has left enough wiggle room for a Clinton Administration to stay in Iraq for a while.

It is easy to dismiss Bush’s talk as delusional, but in recent years Hillary’s husband has developed a close personal friendship with the elder President George Bush as if 1992 never happened – suggesting a stronger tie between the two political families than one might imagine.

Bye Bye Obama !!!

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Hillary Rodham Clinton remains the top contender in the national race for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination in the United States, according to a poll by Gallup released by USA Today.

47 per cent of respondents would vote for the New York senator in a 2008 primary.

Illinois senator Barack Obama is second with 25 per cent, followed by former North Carolina senator John Edwards with 11 per cent. Support is lower for New Mexico governor Bill Richardson, Delaware senator Joe Biden, Ohio congressman Dennis Kucinich, Connecticut senator Chris Dodd, and former Alaska senator Mike Gravel.

Mukasey signals support for torture. Newsweek reports that in recent private meetings with “hard-liners,” Attorney General nominee Michael Mukasey reassured conservatives that he was committed to the Bush administration’s right-wing ideology:

According to three sources, who asked not to be named discussing the private meetings, Mukasey said that he saw “significant problems” with shutting down Guantánamo Bay and that he understood the need for the CIA to use some “enhanced” interrogation techniques against Qaeda suspects. Mukasey also signaled reluctance with naming a special prosecutor to investigate Bush-administration misconduct, according to one participant.

One “well-connected” conservative who attended the meeting later observed, “Gosh, I’m a little worried that the Democrats might have problems with him.”

Today's Must Read By Spencer

Today's Must Read
By Spencer Ackerman - September 24, 2007, 9:39AM
The Iraqi Zapruder has arrived. Only his tape indicts Blackwater rather than absolves it.

Over the weekend, the Iraqi Interior Ministry released details of its investigation into the shooting incident last Sunday involving operatives of the private security firm. In addition to eyewitness testimony, the ministry says it has a videotape of Blackwater guards opening fire on civilians at Baghdad's Nisour Square after a nearby car failed to heed a traffic policeman's order to stop. The tape, recorded by cameras at the nearby National Police Command Center, is the first known documentation of the shooting, which resulted in the deaths of 11 Iraqis and threw gasoline on the explosive issue of legal immunity for U.S. security contractors.

As predicted, Iraqi officials have backed off their demand that the State Department expel Blackwater from Iraq. (Blackwater guards most U.S. civilian potentates, who don't want to see their bodyguards kicked out of Iraq for protecting them.) But the Interior Ministry said it will refer the Blackwater case to Iraqi courts for criminal charges.

That creates another test for U.S.-Iraqi relations: before disbanding in 2004, the Coalition Provisional Authority passed an edict, known as Order 17, absolving U.S. security contractors from Iraqi prosecution, thereby depriving Iraq of any ability to rein in security firms accused of lawless behavior. If a Blackwater prosecution goes forward, the U.S. will be acknowledging that Order 17 is annulled, and security firms will be subject to prosecution from an Iraqi legal system that most outside observers acknowledge is, at best, in its infancy. To put the U.S.'s choice starkly, it's this: either accept a kangaroo court or humiliate the U.S.'s alleged partners in the Iraqi government.

Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki certainly sees it that way. Yesterday, he framedthe Blackwater incident in terms of national pride: "The Iraqi government is responsible for its citizens, and it cannot be accepted for a security company to carry out a killing. There are serious challenges to the sovereignty of Iraq."

It's not hard to understand why Maliki would say that. On at least six prior occasions, the Iraqi government complained to U.S. officials about Blackwater's itchy trigger fingers, but the U.S. did next to nothing in response, The Washington Post reports. Some of the incidents resulted in deadly force being used.

Tensions escalated over a series of incidents beginning last Dec. 24, when a Blackwater employee allegedly shot and killed a bodyguard for Iraqi Vice President Adel Abdul Mahdi inside Baghdad's Green Zone. It remains unclear how the Blackwater employee was able to leave Iraq after the incident, which triggered a Justice Department investigation. No charges have been filed.
On May 24, a Blackwater team shot and killed an Iraqi driver outside the Interior Ministry gate. The incident triggered an armed standoff between Interior Ministry commandos and the Blackwater guards, who later told U.S. Embassy officials that the driver had veered too close to their convoy. Blackwater refused to give the guards' names or details of the incident to the Iraqis. The State Department said it planned to conduct an investigation, but no results have been announced.

How the falling dollar

How the falling dollar affects Americans By Ron Scherer
Mon Sep 24, 4:00 AM ET

The saga of the sagging dollar continues.

All year, the dollar has drooped compared with other major currencies. Last week, after the Federal Reserve reduced interest rates, it fell even further – now at a level not seen since 1997. The Canadian loonie is even stronger – on par with the greenback for the first time in 30 years.

But does a less prestigious portrait of George Washington (on the dollar bill) have any meaning for most Americans?

Economists say the falling dollar has pluses and minuses for the economy. For consumers who like to buy European automobiles or French cheeses, it means their standard of living will go down as they pay more money for these goods. But for American workers on the assembly lines at places such as Boeing or Caterpillar, it means their employers' products will be more in demand.

"After the pluses and minuses are all netted out, I think the lower-valued dollar is good for the economy," says Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody's Economy.com. "The growth we're getting from trade is helping to cushion the blow to the economy from housing."

The last time that the buying power of the US dollar was this low was about a decade ago, according to Federal Reserve Board statistics. But the major difference was that the dollar was rebounding from its low point in the mid-1980s when the major industrial nations decided it was overvalued. It was also easier to make changes in the trade numbers because the price of oil ranged from $22 a barrel (in 2006 dollars) to $26 a barrel, and China's exports were tiny. The US trade deficit was about $230 billion.

This time, the dollar has been on the skids for the past five years. The price of oil is about $80 a barrel. The Census bureau reports the trade imbalance with China alone is $141 billion through July.

So far this year, the greenback is down 7.6 percent, including another 2 percent last week after the Fed reduced interest rates by half of a percentage point.

One of the greatest concerns is that a lower-valued dollar will add to the inflation rate, since imports could become more expensive. So far that hasn't shown up in the inflation numbers.

I am sitting here absolutely stunned after watching the 60 Minutes interview with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Reporter Scott Pelley was unbelievably scary in asking the questions he asked.

At the moment, I'm at a loss for words, but if you watched it, and were as stunned as I was, please let me know. I need a sanity check.

I'm going to have to wait for a transcript, but here's what immediately scared me:

* Pelley's "questions" (allegedly from George Bush)
* Pelley's declarations that the U.S. had "proof of Iran firing missiles at Americans in Iraq"
* Pelley's assertations that "Iran is providing material support to Iraq insurgents. We have proof. What do you say?" ... or something like that. Very close.

It was a masterful Goebbel-esque performance by 60 Minutes, on behalf of Dick Cheney and the drums of war.

I'm telling you, it was scary beyond belief

read the transcript...

and see how often they repeat the "can't answer a direct question" in the msm...compare and watch their spin.

PELLEY: For the sake of clarity, because there is so much concern in the world about this next question, please give me the most direct answer you can. Is it your goal to build a nuclear bomb?

AHMADINEJAD: What are you driving at?

PELLEY: Simply that, sir. Is it the goal of your government, the goal of this nation to build a nuclear weapon?

AHMADINEJAD: Do you think that the nuclear technology is only limited in a bomb? You can only build a bomb with that?

PELLEY: No, I appreciate the differences, sir, but the question is limited to the bomb.

AHMADINEJAD: It has different uses. Well, you have to appreciate we don't need a nuclear bomb. We don't need that. What needs do we have for a bomb?

PELLEY: May I take that as a "no," sir?

AHMADINEJAD: Please, let me finish my thought. It is a firm "no." I'm going to be much firmer now. I want to address all politicians around the world, statesmen. Any party who uses national revenues to make a bomb, a nuclear bomb, will make a mistake. Because in political relations right now, the nuclear bomb is of no use. If it was useful, it would have prevented the downfall of the Soviet Union. If it was useful, it would have resolved the problems the Americans have in Iraq. The U.S. has tested new generations of bombs, many thousands of warheads you have in your arsenals. It's of no use. And also the Zionist entity, they have hundreds of warheads. It's not going to help them. The time of the bomb is past. The parties who think that by using the bomb you can control others, they are wrong. Today we are living in the era of intellectual pursuits. You should spend your money on your people. We don't need the bomb. For 28 years we have defended ourselves in the face of enemy onslaught. Every day we are becoming more powerful. And, again, we don't need such weapons. In fact, we think that this is inhuman. So can you please tell me why the U.S. government is fabricating these bombs? Do you want to provide a more welfare, happiness to the people through the bomb? Are you going to deal with global poverty? Or do you want to kill people? So our belief, sir, tell us and also our culture, because of these, we are very much opposed to the killing of people. This is very clear.

hurray for aipac?

What is your issue with Iran Lucille?

I remember...

Bush saying that Iraq wouldn't let inspectors in...and then Bush ordering the inspectors out before attacking...I also remember the inspectors saying that Iraq didn't have WMDs...but the press played an interesting game...and here it is again.

PELLEY: You can show the world today that you are not pursuing a bomb. All you have to do is give the order. Open your nuclear facilities. Let the United Nations inspectors in there today and prove that there is no bomb program. Why not take that course?

AHMADEINEJAD: I think that you are a little bit behind the day's news. You might have been away on an assignment. I don't know.

PELLEY: I'm familiar with the day's news.

AHMADEINEJAD: The reports say that we have been complying. And they are inspecting all of our sites every day. What more am I supposed to do? So, I try to be as frank as possible, but . . . .

PELLEY: You're opening the sites slowly over time, sir. People say that you're just trying to gather as much highly-enriched uranium as you possibly can.

AHMADEINEJAD: No. No. No. Well, should you say this, make these accusations or agency inspectors? Inspectors have said, that we are saying that Iran has not diverted; there's no diversion here, in other words. Again, let me repeat. We have not diverted from a peaceful path. This is what the agencies think. There is a solution here, however, a very simple solution. The countries that have atomic bombs should destroy their stockpiles. And that would make everyone happy. You shouldn't accuse others needlessly, and you shouldn't lose your temper and make life miserable for others as well. They have made mistakes and have diverted themselves. They think that others will do the same. There are many countries which have the technology. Five or six have diverted from the peaceful path, road, rather. So those five or six should return to the correct path. If certain parties think that they have rights which go beyond the normal rights that any nation should have, that will be problematic. I think that the American government should appreciate that it is like any other member of the international community, respect the views of the agency. It's very regrettable to see that certain U.S. officials have insulted the very clear positions taken by the agency, and they have lost their temper. And also they have made threats. They have attacked the director general of the agency. That is shameful. If you think that the agency is a reputable one, you should allow it to go ahead with its business. Why should you, or the agency, for that matter, repeat the words of the secretary of state? Rather, what they need to do is report the facts, the truth. So the problems of the American politicians is because they are interested in their own interests. And they want the rest of the world just to say "yes, sir" and go along with whatever they say. That is finished. It's in the past.

Talking head acting a little weird?...

Operation Mockingbird

Operation Mockingbird was a Central Intelligence Agency operation to influence domestic and foreign media, whose activities were made public during the Church Committee investigation in 1975 (published 1976).

In February 1976, George H. W. Bush, the recently appointed Director of the CIA announced a new policy: "Effective immediately, the CIA will not enter into any paid or contract relationship with any full-time or part-time news correspondent accredited by any U.S. news service, newspaper, periodical, radio or television network or station." However, he added that the CIA would continue to "welcome" the voluntary, unpaid cooperation of journalists.[21]
