11 AM EDT
I think unless est stands for estimated
It's too god damned early...
That's all she wrote.
Looking Good the two of you, especially you Sam...;)
Thank You for YOU on the airwaves and keeping me a wee bit closer to sanity in this 1984 Nation under bush.
Also THANK YOU for having Marc on. It was he and Franken that got me here and then I HEARD You and was "hooked".
I love the passion of Cenk and so GLAD (almost to tears seeing you NOW). AAR BE WISE!
Good morning folks
Is sammy on Cenk's Turk cam or on the sammy cam?
Melina
www.RIPCoco.com
Blink
Crap. Sam's on? Gotta stay up, I guess.
I hope you realize the sacrifices I make for you, SEDER.
I am not as fond as cenk as I could be...
Maybe Sammy can make me like him better...take him apart a little...
Melina
www.RIPCoco.com
Does anyone know?
If the Sammy cam is always at that same address when Sam turns it on?
I have replay A/V and am gonna try to save it at 11AM
I may be able to sign on from the road...but, just in case am going to try to save it.
Melina
www.RIPCoco.com
I like this one better for now.
Sam, this is the only time I consider Cenk worth watching/listening to. Not a huge fan of him. Like reading him at DKos, but his style just does nothing for me.
Also, where is your IM?
Sammy doesnt seem to be on IM today
It would be hardly fair to cenk..
I guess he was writing at YK...but from where I was sittign it seemed like he changed his suits alot and stood around with his buddies.
I believe that I blogged that cenk thing at the time...Ill look for the link if I can get the kid ready on time and have a few mins left over.
Sammy was running round rumpled, interviewing people in his hotel room and trying to perfect the early version of the sammy cam...
Not that cenk doesnt have something to say to ex repubs/sorta middle of the road folks....I was lost when they had the girl on ...its been all downhill since them.
I was just reminding myself to not forget to TURN OFF the radio or 'puter before I hear the squeak of Lionel!
Cenk needs Sammy
Melina
www.RIPCoco.com
Cenk needs Sammy
naw. cenk is too lightweight for sammy. sammy needs his own show.
I'm not getting
the same Cenk rejection. I've been a fan of his for a while. I like Ben and Jill too. All of them are good for me.
11
eastern was confirmed.
Sam is up on IM,
in case any one wants to yap at him.
has john kerry gone over to the dark side
first it was condemning the moveon ad:
Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) Criticized The Ad, Calling It "Over The Top." "Other leading Democrats, however, said that MoveOn.org had gone too far. US Senator John F. Kerry of Massachusetts said on MSNBC: 'I believe that ad was just simply over the top, and I think it's inappropriate, period.'" (Lisa Wangsness, "Ad Critical Of General Assailed In GOP Camp," The Boston Globe, 9/11/07)
and now students get tasered when he speaks (although to be fair it sounds more like a police riot):
Taser
Garofalo should be responsible
for choosing all bumper music on AAR. Cenk's thing is not my bag.
Kerry didn't do anything wrong.
He asked the cops not to fight and agreed to answer his questions. He is NOT responsible for security being out of control.
nando
don't get me wrong. cenk is good in his own right. wes clark compliments him. of course we all miss jill. i just think sam's style is different then cenk's.
It's a god damned police state.
That's what we have.
well,
I'm with you on that dan. Sam is a bit too alpha to wait for Cenk to take a breath.
Kerry didn't do anything wrong.
it might not be wrong but he doesn't seem to be in control of the situtation. its not clear why they cut the kids mike when the he asked the skull and bones question instead of letting kerry dismiss it as a silly question
Cenk is wrong
when peoples attitude all change allowing tasering like this then they are taking orders or cues from our fascist rulers.
This is a police state and he should know better.
Well I like Cenk's passion and brilliance. I have been doing
this for 40yrs ... we have used different strategies, so I choose not to be like the analogy of Einstein, to paraphrase what he said, "To do the same action and expect a different result is INSANITY."
This is a police state
hmmm. they're just setting the stage for the 2008 elections.
Kerry did not signal the cops to enter
a civilian on the side did. Kerry is not expected to be in direct control of the peace officers in attendance.
The Skull and Bones thing is a dumb fucking question, but Kerry tried to answer. He also asked them not to fight.
Should he have jumped down and laid a beat down?
w.f.c - you're right
i am still disappointed with kerry after supporting him in a big way only to have him quit and walk away in 04...
i guess its just a lingering case of suckers remorse.
He did walk away,
and that was before you would get tasered for standing your ground.
because a taser is "non-lethal"
does that make rent a cops want to use them even more?
I understand
I wish he had stood up and taken command of the situation, and demand that all parties exercise some fucking restraint. But I don't fault him for being caught off guard and not reacting quickly enough.
standing your ground
tough question. i've spent the past years trying to teach my kids that the only thing they say is yes sir and no sir when dealing with a cop. in some cities that could be the difference between living and dying but they have an independent don't take crap spirit so you can only hope.
Tasers are not "non-lethal",
they are "less than lethal".
Can kill ya, but not as likely. As I understand, anyone who is tasered in NYC is required to be taken for cardiac evaluation at a hospital, following the incident. Those things can kill you. I've never been tasered, but I've been hit with a "stun gun", and I've been electrocuted while wiring. Both were very painful. Taser is supposed to be worse.
Kerry was passive as usual
Kerry stood there and watched as this student was abused by campus police. How could he just stand there and do nothing to intervene.
Passive?
And I suppose you would have reacted properly?
Do you see how many other horrified, frightened people also locked up and froze when this happened? Kerry's no great shakes, but he certainly doesn't bear any responsibility for a bunch of asshole campus cops.
sorry dan
I'm not the yes sir no sir type. Fuck da police.
If I was
a US Senator who wanted to be President of the United States and professes to be a progressive, YES I would have reacted differently. It was his forum. He had power in that situation.
Couldn't see Kerry
Is there another cam I am missing? It looks like this guy was in the back of the venue so Kerry could have been clueless as if this guy might have actually been a threat. I am sure we'll hear more about this thing unless Michael Vick holds up a dog show.
nothing to be sorry about
i just think you need to pick your fights.
Kerry: Stand up, speak loud, sort it out then and there
It would have been impressive to tell the police to stop -- he's the reason they're acting in theory -- perhaps even bring the guy back to the mic, ask him to quiet down and sort through the problems on the spot. (Sorta Sammy-style when the wingnuts call.) Maybe strengthen our beseiged democracy a little in the process. After a feeble attempt Mr. Tin Man decides to act like it's not there.
- Christolecount
new topic - fredo thompson
so thompson doesn't do his homework. its just because he's an actor that wants to be president. an empty shell, just like reagan.
maybe Kerry
was remembering Mick Jagger at Altamont.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vO76xbklt64
Really?
He had authority to order the cops about? Sorry, not buying.
I'm sorry he did not react forcefully enough, but I'll click over to FOX if I wanna smack Kerry for speaking at an event where the police went out of control. This whole thing spun out of control quickly. It went from a lawful detainment, to police brutality, in a very short time. Again, imo, Kerry can't be faulted for his reaction.
true dan
and actually, I have a lot of respect for the law. I am speaking of abusive police. I have too often been insulted by their actions. Then, I think it is appropriate to look rebel. I would gladly put a line on the ground for them to cross over so I could sue the bejezus out of them just to make the point. Don't cross the line.
Police are to protect and serve the public, not to provoke us. If they don't understand that, then we have every right to show them the way.
Vote the American way - Vote Hillary!

Mrs. Clinton,
Mrs. Clinton,
I think it is a shame you have "sold out" on a health care plan for the people of the United States. Universal Health Care is not the forced "mandating" of people to buy health care coverage like car insurance. Your spokesperson compares your plan to mandatory laws requiring people to purchase car insurance. Since when have you known car insurance companies to deny claims on a daily basis?
People who pay for health care insurance are denied payment for services they need countless times each day. Forcing people to buy insurance does not mean the insurance companies will pay the claims. It won't make understanding the appeals process any easier or any less tasking when the family is already burdened with sometimes catastrophic illnesses. Making the insurance companies actually pay the claims should be legislated before requiring people to purchase a worthless product.
I have had it both ways, to be insured well and to be uninsured. I received better care in some areas of health when I was uninsured. If one needs surgery or has a major medical issue, it is certainly a different story. However, many years ago I once had a $20,000 hospital bill denied by the health insurance premiums being paid through my employer of four years.
It is sad that you have taken money from the pharmaceutical companies and insurance companies, now keeping their agenda as a priority instead of the health care of the people of the United States.
True, MMR
I just meant upstate. Apple country. Does he have no AC or is it just that all of the equipment creates a lot of heat?
wtf
don't bumb rush the cops.
It's that kind of crap that keeps sheep as sheep. The government IS going to realize to be afraid of it's citizens in my lifetime. You better get used to that.

We Do Live In A Police State ...
And I worked for a PD and a SO, in my 20's (30 yrs ago), then I went down south to go to school and watch (especially protesting in the 80's) the police turn into
walking ROBOCOPS.
(I was 13yrs when "awoke", 14 when I "hit the streets for the DEMS and Cranston then Feinstein. I feel personally resposible because I helped to first elect her.)
I do fault Kerry. We NEED people with a mouth, people who are bold. I have had death threats by many in L.A. and even up here, but I CHOOSE not to Stand Down and take their names and pictures, so the next time they appear on my signs of me getting arrested, because of the different issues I stand for. For what I stand for the arrests are very physically abusive.
I think Kerry should have been more of a fighter...but he wasn't.
I think more of the students (NOT BLOCKING THE POLICE) should have spoken up immediately and if I was there I would have said something FOR KERRY TO DO SOMETHING.
This was just a VERY WRONG ARREST.
un-believable
morning yourll

A Taser Can Kill Ya
If someone's got a heart problem, congestive heart failure.... a taser could easily kill someone. Cops shouldn't be allowed to use them unless it's a case where there's an actual crime going on where someone needs to be stopped right now before they harm someone. Cops are going to keep using these things until someone dies and they get sued. It's sad they don't have any foresight. - jayson

What's good news for sports junkies is tough luck for fans of angry leftist radio. WWTQ AM-680, once the home of Air America recently became Fox Sports Radio.
"Nobody is more disappointed than I am," says program director Jerry Dean of Air America's local demise.
So what, exactly, killed Progressive Talk in the Midsouth? There was certainly no shortage of optimism in January 2005, when Entercom, the Pennsylvania-based media conglomerate that also operates Memphis station 104.5 WRVR, launched WWTQ.
"The time is right for liberal radio," Michael Harrison, the publisher of Talkers Magazine, the leading talk radio trade publication, told the Flyer. Dean described local support for a progressive alternative to Rush Limbaugh and Mike Flemming as a "groundswell."
"It still seems like a good idea," Dean says, unable to explain why Air America attracted consistently low ratings and failed attract advertisers in solid blue Memphis. He suspects some advertisers were afraid to associate their brand with a liberal station.
"But it's not like liberals don’t buy things," Dean says. "Cars, clothes, and everything else."
WWTQ never found an effective way to localize the station. The eponymous show briefly hosted by Memphis media veteran Leon Gray showed early promise, but Gray's conservative views on issues like evolution and gay rights didn't appeal to listeners tuning in to hear Randi Rhodes and Al Franken. In June 2006, Gray and the progressive talk format parted ways.

Oversight Committee to Hold Hearings on Blackwater
Oversight Committee Chairman Henry A. Waxman released the following statement this afternoon following the press accounts that Iraq had revoked the license of U.S. contractor Blackwater:
“The controversy over Blackwater is an unfortunate demonstration of the perils of excessive reliance on private security contractors. The Oversight Committee will be holding hearings to understand what has happened and the extent of the damage to U.S. security interests.”
One of the first hearings held by the Oversight Committee in the 110th Congress was on February 17, 2007, “Iraqi Reconstruction: Reliance on Private Military Contractors.” Family members of four Blackwater employees killed in Fallujah testified about what they view as profiteering by Blackwater USA, including the company’s alleged failure to provide armored vehicles and other critical safety equipment. The Committee examined the costs of Blackwater’s security operations to the taxpayer and the adequacy of federal oversight of Blackwater and other security contractors. Kathryn Helvenston-Wettengel, mother of one of the employees, gave an opening statement (pdf) delivered on behalf of the families of all four Blackwater employees killed in the infamous Fallujah incident on March 31, 2004:

Chafee quietly quits the GOP
PROVIDENCE — Lincoln D. Chafee, who lost his Senate seat in the wave of anti-Republican sentiment in last November’s election, said yesterday that he has left the party.
Chafee said he disaffiliated with the party he had helped lead, and his father had led before him, because the national Republican Party has gone too far away from his stance on too many critical issues, from war to economics to the environment.

Federal Prosecutor Arrested In Child Sex Sting
DETROIT -- A U.S. Justice Department official has been arrested on suspicion of traveling to Detroit over the weekend to have sex with a minor.
John David R. Atchison, 53, an assistant U.S. attorney from the northern district of Florida, was arraigned in U.S. District Court in Detroit Monday afternoon.
An undercover officer posed as a mother offering her child to Atchison for sex, according to police
Prosecutors said Atchison flew from Pensacola, Fla., to Detroit on Sunday intending to have sex with the 5-year-old girl.
He was arrested at Detroit Metropolitan Airport.
He is charged with enticement of a minor to engage in sexual activity.
According to authorities, Atchison made contact with a detective working undercover for the Macomb County Sheriff's department's.
The detective, acting as the child's mother, allegedly arranged a sexual encounter between Atchison and her 5-year-old daughter, police said.
In deposition, detectives said Atchison suggested the mother tell her daughter that "you found her a sweet boyfriend who will bring her presents."
The undercover detective expressed concern about physical injury to the 5-year-old girl as a result of the sexual activity. Detectives said Atchison responded, " I am always gentle and loving; not to worry, no damage ever, no rough stuff ever. I only like it soft and nice."
The undercover detective asked how Atchison can be certain of no injury. He responded, "Just gotta go slow and very easy. I've done it plenty," according to detectives.
Atchison, a member of the Florida bar association since 1984, lives in Gulf Breeze, Fla., near Pensacola.
He is president of the Gulf Breeze Sports Association, a youth athletics organization.
He described himself online as a family man. His wife is a science teacher at Gulf Breeze High School.
The Macomb County Sheriff's Department and the FBI were a part of the investigation.
Atchison remains in federal custody and a detention hearing will be held on Tuesday.

Spy chief: China, Russia spying on U.S.
WASHINGTON - China and Russia are spying on the United States nearly as much as they did during the Cold War, according to the top U.S. intelligence official.
Mike McConnell, the director of national intelligence, says in testimony prepared for a Tuesday congressional hearing that a law passed last month expanding the U.S. government's eavesdropping power is needed to protect not just against terrorists but also against more traditional potential adversaries, such as those two Cold War foes.
"China and Russia's foreign intelligence services are among the most aggressive in collecting against sensitive and protected U.S. systems, facilities and development projects, and their efforts are approaching Cold War levels," McConnell says in his testimony. "Foreign intelligence information concerning the plans, activities and intentions of foreign powers and their agents is critical to protect the nation and preserve our security."

And I wish I was a Conservative Moonbat ....
President Bush wishes that he could be alongside the troops in Iraq — except that he’s too old.
The Washington Post
At least that’s what he reportedly told a blogger embedded with U.S. troops in Iraq. In the first session of its kind, Bush spent almost an hour on Friday talking with 10 so-called “milbloggers,” including two who participated by video conference from a military base outside Baghdad.
” N.Z. Bear,” one of the eight guests sitting around a table with Bush at the White House, reported: “Responding to one of the bloggers in Iraq he expressed envy that they could be there, and said he’d like to be there but ‘One, I’m too old to be out there, and two, they would notice me.’”
Maybe Bush was just making idle chit-chat. But this would not be the first time the president has appeared unaware of the hardships his war has caused hundreds of thousands of American troops — while expressing a misguided sense of bravado.
He certainly hasn’t ever put himself in harm’s way. The president who avoided serving in Vietnam as a young man has made only three visits to Iraq since declaring that major combat operations were over more than four years ago. All three of the visits were unannounced and featured extensive security.
yeah about the taesering
what did Kerry say about it? if nothing i hope his ass gets sued as well sorry, but these guys have to stand up for us......i can get so mad....what are they there for?
yeah about the taesering ///
The problem I see is that the Police use tasers to easily ... there is no way people should be getting tasered for anything short of a physical threat on someone.
Anytime someone is tasered for less it should be an assult charge on the cop.

Security Took 'Turn for Worse' In Southern Iraq, Report Says
Washington Post
Security is deteriorating in southern Iraq as rival Shiite militias vying for power have stepped up their attacks after moving out of Baghdad to avoid U.S.-led military operations, according to the latest quarterly Pentagon report on Iraq released yesterday.
"The security environment in southern Iraq took a notable turn for the worse in August" with the assassination of two governors, said the report, which covers June through August. "There may be retaliation and an increase in intra-Shi'a violence throughout the South," it said, whereas previously the violence was centered in the main southern city of Basra.
Iran has intensified its training and funding of the Shiite militia, and Iranian-influenced militias are believed to be responsible for killing the two governors, as well as for a nearly 40 percent increase in attacks using lethal weapons known as explosively formed projectiles, compared with the mid-February to mid-May period, the report said.
The growing violence in the south is one factor making it unlikely that Iraq's leaders -- hampered by a "zero sum" mentality -- will make headway in the fall on key political resolutions, the report concluded. "In the short term, Iraqi political leaders will likely be less concerned about reconciliation than with consolidating power and posturing for a future power struggle," it said.......

I agree Kevin!
Also, it is relatively new and we don't know what the long term problems of being taesered will do to the body.
That would have been a perfect reason for Kerry to stand up and say something. I don't care that the young man was questioning why he backed off on checking into the election. He had a right to ask and talk!

Mystery illness strikes after meteorite hits Peruvian village
AFP
Villagers in southern Peru were struck by a mysterious illness after a meteorite made a fiery crash to Earth in their area, regional authorities said Monday.
Around midday Saturday, villagers were startled by an explosion and a fireball that many were convinced was an airplane crashing near their remote village, located in the high Andes department of Puno in the Desaguadero region, near the border with Bolivia.
Residents complained of headaches and vomiting brought on by a "strange odor," local health department official Jorge Lopez told Peruvian radio RPP.
Seven policemen who went to check on the reports also became ill and had to be given oxygen before being hospitalized, Lopez said.
Rescue teams and experts were dispatched to the scene, where the meteorite left a 100-foot-wide (30-meter-wide) and 20-foot-deep (six-meter-deep) crater, said local official Marco Limache.
"Boiling water started coming out of the crater and particles of rock and cinders were found nearby. Residents are very concerned," he said.

And we are culling people who have held office before into another list, trying to get them to run against the Repubs in this area, who have never or rarely had any opposition.
Also we are using these lists for raising money to support these people.
So I am doing something that I can do.
The Senate will vote today
The Senate will vote today on a bill to provide the District of Columbia with voting rights. The legislation, which has passed the House, would give D.C. a full voting member of the U.S. House while also providing Utah an additional seat.

Sen. Ken Salazar (D-CO), who previously “has not supported Congress using its ability to stop war payments in order to force President Bush to change direction,” said yesterday that Congress should look at cutting off funds. “If it could be done then I think we ought to take a look at it,” Salazar said.

As I was leaving
the house and Sam was signing off, I got to fire off an IM about rebroadcasts or vid-casts that are down-loadable.
He seemed to encourage someone to capture the stream and stick it out on youtube. I can not do that from where I am now. Hopefully BestOfTheLeft or some other person will do that for us.
Is that SAMMY on SAMCAM?

U.S. officials: Israeli border authorities harass Arab Americans
IMRA
American officials have complained recently that Israeli immigration authorities harass American citizens of Arab origin at Israeli border crossings.
During meetings between senior State Department officials and their counterparts in Israel, the Americans said that in recent months there has been a troubling increase in the number of complaints by American citizens of Palestinian and Arab origin, regarding the treatment they receive at border crossings and airports in Israel.
The Americans complained about long delays, a suspicious attitude, and degrading security checks.
The State Department officials stressed that Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was very perturbed by this issue and said they expected immediate improvement....
See you Sunday SAM,
later guys. Wow, that feedback is rough. Heehe!

"I am doing something"
I know Toni...
My point is more that power is all too often weilded by those that shouldn't have a drop of it...
The strategy the right wing have been using to shape our society in general is just this...Putting ppl in every place of power no matter how small...In unelected government jobs for instance...
This gives them a supernormal volume to their collective voice as compared to the majority...
This allows them to effect our society disproportionately to their numbers...and it was already out of kilter due economic disparities...
Take over those government jobs...get elected to anything that you can...take up any free soapbox...If you're of a corporate mind...Take them over...Don't like what the oil companies are doing...Figure out how to become the CEO and change it...
Screw the tech jobs...screw the creative jobs...screw those damn jobs that only serve your own vanity...Become the powers that be...Take over the Law, The bureaucracy, The government, The corporations, The banks, The military, The intelligence agencies, The media...Then and only then can you change this country, this world without a civil war...This is how the minority rules the majority...This is how they've always done it.
Salon writes that Iraqis who
Salon writes that Iraqis who seek redress for the deaths of the civilians at the hands of U.S. contractors in a criminal court are out of luck. Because of an order promulgated by the former Coalition Provisional Authority, “there appears to be almost no chance that the contractors involved would be, or could be, successfully prosecuted in any court in Iraq.”

Manilow boycotts ‘The View’ over Hasselbeck
NEW YORK - The man who writes the songs won’t be singing any of them on “The View” — not as long as Elisabeth Hasselbeck is there.
Barry Manilow has backed out of his scheduled appearance on the morning talk show after the show refused to pull Hasselbeck from the interview, “Access Hollywood” has learned.
Manilow, a long time friend of Rosie O’Donnell, posted the following message on his Web site:

Salon writes that Iraqis who ////
I just heard on the BBC that the Iraqi's might charge those contractors and tell the US to stick Rule #17 up their ass ... Rule #17 gives contractors immunity.
This sounds like it's going to be a big fight on who is running the show
Hi Marc and Sam
I am enjoying your mic tests, you both sound pretty good.
Boy, you Seder CULTISTS are really in for a bad time---Gare
First you want to muscle out poor Cenk and take over his show.
Didn't you figure out that Seder lost his slot because...nobody but a couple dozen of you guys were listening? You think the Greens put Sammy in the Dead Zone of Sunday afternoon "despite" getting "monumental ratings"?
I wonder if any of your morons are going to EVER figure out that Seder just doesn't have a "knack" for radio. Nor did sweet Janeane. And the Arbitrons proved it.
Second, love the fact that John Kerry is now a "police state fascist". How long ago was it that you guys liked JFK-2 (again) because he was out there hitting the White House hard on Iraq or FISA or whatever. How long until he says something "strong and forceful" again...and you guys love him again?
Third, if you don't like "Hillary-care-II: The Wrath of Khan"....tough titties. (obvious joke there). She's stomping Barry O' by 20% even in South Carolina, where the black vote makes or breaks the primary (Edwards is a piss-poor 7%).
She's the nominee...get used to it. And get used to her health care "reform" being the "solution" to the "crises".
And have a nice day------your ol' pal Gare
Paulose under investigation by feds
www.ericblackink.com
The federal Office of Special Counsel is investigating allegations that Rachel Paulose, U.S. attorney for Minnesota, mishandled classified information, decided to fire the subordinate who called it to her attention, retaliated against others in the office who crossed her, and made racist remarks about one employee.
Paulose did not return phone calls seeking her comment. Black Ink will publish any response that she makes.
The investigation has been under way since June. The Office of Special Counsel, which handles complaints about retaliation against whistleblowers and prohibited personnel practices by political appointees such as Paulose (that’s her at the podium in the photo at right), appears to be taking the allegations seriously. Investigators from two of its regional offices have been to Minnesota to interview witnesses and may be back for more. I could not find out when the OSC, an independent executive branch agency that is not part of the Justice Department, might complete the investigation.
The allegations also undermine the claim, which was put out for public consumption in April, that four top supervisory officials in the office had voluntarily stepped down to lower positions because of differences with Paulose over management style. The highest ranking of those four, former First Assistant U.S. Attorney John Marti, resigned after learning that Paulose was about to dump him. Marti, who remains in the office as an assistant U.S. attorney, also declined to discuss the matter.........
ok alright this answers my question...thanks yourll....
As we reported yesterday, Admiral Michael McConnell, the head of the U.S. intelligence community, goes before the House Judiciary Committee today to defend the August revision of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. But he's also seeking to salvage his reputation as a straight shooter following a recent fusillade of inflammatory and false comments about the new law, known as the Protect America Act. Since the law, which Democrats mistrust, largely allows domestic-to-international surveillance to proceed on McConnell's say-so, restoring trust is imperative for him -- lest Congressional Democrats, as they've promised, scale the law back.
Unsurprisingly, then, here's how he begins his opening statement to the committee:
