A Reasonable Response to Our Representatives in Congress

Like the majority of Americans I am incensed that the Republicans in Congress used the filibuster against the reinstatement of Habeas Corpus. I have tried to find the patience to deal with this development in a reasonable manner and have come up with the following.

The Democrats should announce a bill to abolish the filibuster. They, the Democrats, have the votes to do this. This will cause the Republicans to come to some kind of agreement about laws that must be passed for the sake of this Republic.

If the Democrats are “afraid” to attempt this solution they should insist that the Republicans return to the traditional filibuster. In that instance, the media should be made aware – very loudly – so that the American people can witness this disregard of their rights, if only the media can overcome their fear of reprisal from this administration and actually report on the proceedings.
From recent history we have witnessed that the Democrats in Congress refuse to use the power of the filibuster, fearful of blow back, and that the Republicans continue to abuse the power of the filibuster, not caring who they hurt as long as they get what they want.

The Democrats continue to live under the umbrella of hope that the Republicans value this Republic and our beloved Constitution. Unfortunately, the Dems are living in a fool’s paradise. They must wake up and learn to street fight. They must stop acting like abused wives and understand that the bullies on the other side of the aisle do not fight according to any rules of a civilized society. It continues to amaze me that those who call themselves “Republicans” do not value our Republic, nor do they honor their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution.

Any bill that is passed by the Congress that does not meet with President Bush’s approval he will veto. IT DOES NOT MATTER IF WE DON’T HAVE THE VOTES TO OVERRIDE THE VETO. It will be enough if the majority leader goes public – very loudly – and reports this development to the American people through the media, explaining why this reinstatement of Habeas Corpus is important to the continuation of our Republic and to honor the Constitution – particularly why conservatives who honor the Constitution would find this very important, whether they be Democrats or Republicans.
