No Vacancy

Is it rumor or not that Obama will fill a few of his cabinet positions with Republicans, or is that just someone's feel good suggestion? Very good picks so far. There are a bevy of qualified moderates, but he should shore up his cabinet and then reach across the aisle.I think he'd do a lot better going with a feisty old guy like Mike Gravel, an independent over a rumored republican like Powell whom I don't see as really qualified or really reliable (can you say wmd's?). Why not give Edwards a change to do penance, provide public sevice and reform his image? Where better than defense? Maybe these are just feel good suggestions. I want an Obama baby.

Can Harold Ford take Obama's Seat?

How does that work? Does anyone know or is it too early to talk. Oprah went insane. Too bad no one interviewed Brad Pitt.

No Lipstick on this Blog, The Peccury is No Ordinary Pig

A peccary is a thick desert hog, and that seems to be similar to the tough skin Obama's wearing. Wait, I'm not calling Obama a pig. Let me make that perfectly clear, John Kerry clear. That's my site and name. Yeah, everything they throw out plays to Obama's strength, the agent for change sticks to his serious tone. If he could pick up a few slogans and zingers though, it would be better.

CNN Ready to Inaugurate Sarah Palin

Wait, I'm confused, no government, big government reform for all Americans. She's against government, so is that the small government she's for or the big government she's against. But big government is for all Americans. Why is she getting live coverage? What about Joe? Ah, yes, prime time appeal. For now, let me watch Sarah. Go baby, go.

A Profile in Courage

So now the race begins in earnest. And its pretty clear the Republicans can't run on much. So they've taken their only option left to them: the low road. So now Obama needs to take a look at his Democratic predecessors and study the Kennedy and Clinton playbook. His comments, though correct technically need to sharpened up a bit to a political bludgeon; beefed up to a level worthy of Presidential candidacy. No Kerry no Gore, but Kennedy, Clinton, Carter (I'm gonna kick his ass) and LBJ. More blood and guts, less book-reportish is how his style should go. They're shouting slogans not coming to a peace conference. A political campaign ain't detente. When in doubt rely on the party heavyweights and experience: Here I would call Bill Clinton. Say it loud, say it proud. I wouldn't hesitate to go private public with it, since McCain's camp is being run by Weyrich. That's life in the media, I suppose. The wise thing to do is keep it behind the scenes. He's been a little too statesman like in a lot of stumps where shouting out in the manner of a seasoned campaigner would be better served. What would LBJ say if he found out Fannie Mae collapsed? We can't have them in office any more, they can't even take care of the houses.

Wow. McCain hasn't said much, but They're at it again. RNC heads are showing up on every talk show in town. They can't possibly run on their record. And they've picked up on the lamest slogans. But here's the thing. The regular RNC stuff won't work. What people like to see and really respond to is what I call the competency of attack. This is how you would handle yourself in office. They don't like dawdlers. Did you notice Drudge pick up, architect of the election of Bob Corker by printing rumors of fraud by Harold Ford people the weekend of the 2006 Senatorial election in Tennessee, a frenzied jump in tone? Drudge is stumping again, deciding to enter the campaign, with attacks on Palin questions. Ask nothing, know nothing, and be satisfied. Is he kidding? She's a heartbeat away. I wanna know. I am not going to take anything from his site. They ran into a trap on the community organizing there, but so far no one's picked up on it. Here's how Obama should do it. "Listen, I'm not the first person whose stood up for a community. Lot of union people organized amidst danger as the song Union Maid says "Neither company stooge or national guard can scare me." I'm not as heroic as all that but it seems to me organizing is democratic as apple pie. Small d. All kinds of communities organize , its called a constituency, veterans, farmers, laborers, there are different types of community. This exercise in Democracy may come as news to the Republican lifestyle and way of thinking, but I've got news for you, Democracy isn't just hatched in the sky boxes of MegaCorp Inc. When asked about this he could have said something like "listen, I believe in democracy, the question is how can John Mccain walk away from george bush's record?” obama said.

Now take this maverick thing. Its gotten out of hand already. They are shouting out, with no rebuttal by Obama or the media, "We are gonna change things." Obama should respond in turn, why has it taken them so long? Why did John McCain wait eight years? Why hasn't he spoken up before?" These are slogans the public responds to, in a tightly contested race. Well, I'm no political expert, but it seems that the message Obama is sending out is reserved and statesman like. That's fine but that comes across anyway because of his manner, appearance and speech delivery. Why did John McCain wait eight years like a Presidential frog to be kissed this election year by the voting public and awaken as a maverick prince? 95 per cent is an A in any classroom.

On the whole I think Obama's running a good campaign. But now they've upped the energy level, so he should match it. As for Palin, I think Biden knows how to handle that without seeming a bully, he's an old political cat whose got all nine lives left.

Now listening to: R.E.M. Accelerate

Leave My Shoes Where They Are, Please.

I know both parties can't agree on many things, but here's a few thing all Americans can rally around.

-No more Bush jobs. I like my shoes on me, it does nothing for security. Keep our airport's sane and secure! Yes special well trained security agents are needed. However any security measures should be predicated on the assumption that one is not sneaking a stick of dynamite in their Keds. Scope for the wolves not the herd. And since Joe Biden announced he wouldn't hesitate to prosecute officials in the Bush Administration or at least investigate misdoings such as lying to the public about going to war, I think these jobs and policies should be duly revised and amended.

-No more drug commercials. I don't want to hear about prostrate cancer and the wonders of viagra while at the dinner table. Legislation should be drawn up to hold drug companies accountable if an advertised drug should cause complications and other negative side effects.

-A comprehensive policy for our G.I.'s, veterans of every war. Veterans should be ensured the ability to and right to congregate and organize, march and become part of the political process. Both sides fall short of giving exclusive comprehensive health care, free of cost, to themselves and their families. Our veterans have the right to good health and with their veteran I.D. Walk into any doctor's office and hospital in the country and

I think the candidate who adopts these policies will have a secret edge, not visible in the polls. But the public will secretly agree.

During her speech a Palin reference to Obama saying one thing to one audience and another thing to another mentioning “Us” smacks of xenophobia. That tone of the speech implies us vs. them thinking and smells of an ugly elitism. I liked McCain's speech because it felt like I was listening to a real American talking, not just showcasing specific talking points. McCain has cast himself in the light of Teddy Roosevelt, a reformer running against Washington interests he thinks are cheating the American public. I think this strategy might work for him. He can't exactly run on Bush's record. Repulicans are running for cover under the term “witchhunt” to stymie such efforts and nip them in the bud. Biden has preempted that emphasized importance, seriousness, and gravity of the law over base politics. And isn't this why the country is in such trouble in the first place? Well, as they say, the proof is in the pudding. Who is more apt to restore the F.C.C., for example and guarantee the rights of free speech on the public airwaves? With a plethora of talent in their camp and Hilary Clinton topping the waiting list, the Democrats manage to inspire more confidence. A host of other government agencies needing regeneration and attention to become what they were meant to be: service to the People, not the special interests. Begin with the Justice Department. If republicans want labor and the catholic vote, they have a funny way to show it. Preach and screech tactics about abortion won't work. Guys like the indicted Ted Stevens can't be entrusted with a nifty position affecting real people, real lives. People need health care, and they need a real job (One Please) to be able to pay for it. We don't need slogans, we need solutions. The challenge is to get the message out over the GOP talking point wagon.

A word on the crack down of free speech outside the convention. Well done, Minneapolis. You managed to sack political speech at a time where its at it's most evident. Hopefully charges of the “PC” riot will be sumarily dismissed. Cheers to Amy Goodman, Nicole Salazar and others keeping the torch of freedom alive.

Sigh. I've got to catch a flight. I'm thinking of wearing slippers.

PEACE OFFICERS GET BORED WITH LIEBERMAN SPEECH, RNC, ATTACK PROTESTERS

At least that's what it seemed like. Sorry for the 'Onion' like title. Let me just say if you slap on war paint and don battle regalia, then you're gonna look for someone to beat up. It can lead to no good. All they need is to be stationed out there in regular uniforms with a guy on a horse. It woke up a few people nodding off to the RNC's convention. Though I do think Tommy Thomson managed to pull a rabbit out of a hat and deliver a decent speech. Can you say speakers? Is there no new blood in the RNC? I thought Liebarman was okay and walked the line between two parties, though was hardly a coup. So far the best thing is Cindy McCain. I really think the protesters shouldn't give them the time of day, it just makes the RNC's day, getting a radical photo of conflict, though this one went well.

More on Palin

I think she looks and seems nice and I can kinda see why McCain picked her. She seems genuine and genuinely likable. She is after all the Governor of a major American State. But the operative word is "untested." There isn't enough of a track record on her, and given the age disparity between her and McCain it's enough to raise serious concerns. At 44 she couldn't possibly be ready to take on the Office of the Presidency. It looks like it would overwhelm her, though I suppose anyone in Government could be prepped. Besides his 12 years in government, Obama has shown himself able to convey a message that reaches a new generation of voters, wage a campaign against one of the most experience politicians, and deliver a statesmen-like address that pretty much lays to rest any doubts people might have had. No, I think her age matters a lot. Even though they look pretty good together.

McCain's Pick for VP

Wow, McCain sure has a propensity to be a maverick and it shows from his latest decision. Surprise! I don't know much about the Governor from Alaska. Perhaps Mike Gravel's brain can be picked. Sam? An interview? Also the Dems would do well to pick his mind and get a statement, made of course in a controlled environment. He has a tendency to be maverick, speak his mind not caring about whom he offends. Just the guy for Obama, eh? The problems is McCain may have gone too far out of the arena. He doesn't really get the woman vote, instead he manages to de-center the ticket. He throws in an unexpected variable. This may be be a good pick, I don't know. But it opens the door to the unknown factor. Does this new nominee have the temperament to be Vice President, what are her views, experience, ecetera. In a way this takes the heat off Obama and places it back square at McCain; except we now have an idea of what Obama believes. Did this take the mo from Obama? No, I don't think so, it kind of nails it as it were. Because now the questions have changed. And the pressing one is, did John McCain open Pandora's box? The open question was Obama's problem, well, up to last night's speech. But now the onus of this burden to quell curious doubts is on the Republican Vice Presidential nominee. What is she like? Do we as Americans want her to be our first woman President? She may be a great governor. Is that enough? And should McCain suffer any health problems do we, like Geena Davis's character in that short lived (but critically acclaimed) show Commander in Chief want to be a hear-beat away from the Presidency? Is there enough time to think about this? And what does this say about John McCain?
