Business as usual at Fox "News"

It was bad enough when Fox "News," in reporting the story of Rep. William Jefferson's (D-LA) federal indictment, ran file video of Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) with the anchor's voice-over.

Today, as ThinkProgress reports, Fox offered an "apology" which made no reference at all to the specific offense for which it was "apologizing."

Conyers blasts Fox News for ‘apology.’

Fox News “apologized” today after airing images of Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) during a discussion of indicted Rep. William Jefferson (D-LA) (both happen to be African African).

“Yesterday at this time, news of the indictment of Congressman William Jefferson came down. We mistakenly ran the wrong video to accompany this story and we apologize for that error,” a Fox anchor, Martha MacCallum, told viewers at about 1:20 p.m. today. The 10-second apology made no reference to Mr. Conyers and did not explain why or how the erroneous video made it to air.

Conyers responded today in a statement:

Bush's Dumbest Utterance

The Nation asks (with poll):

    What Is Bush's Dumbest Utterance?

    A) "You know, one of the hardest parts of my job is to connect Iraq to the war on terror."

    B) "If the Iranians were to have a nuclear weapon, they could proliferate."

    C) "Those who enter the country illegally violate the law."

    D) "It is a time of sorrow and sadness when we lose a loss of life."

    E) "I believe that....young cows ought to be allowed to go across our border."

    F) "The illiteracy level of our children are appalling."

The answer is, "G) None of the Above."

Bush's dumbest utterance, ever, is: "We leave before the mission is done, the terrorists will follow us here."

Not only is it the dumbest thing Bush has ever said about Iraq, it could be the dumbest thing that anybody has ever said about anything.

I have yet to hear anybody even ask Bush what it means. On its face, it means that as American troops depart from Iraq, The Terrorists will board airplanes they do not have and, literally, follow them back to the United States. Hopefully, you do not need for me to explain how absurd that is.

If Bush does not mean it literally, then he can only mean it metaphorically. Again, the absurdity of such a metaphor should be self-evident. The Terrorists found us just fine on their own on September 11, 2001. They didn't need to follow anybody here. And if The Terrorists decided to come here and attack us while our troops remain bogged down in Iraq, they will have no trouble finding us, and will not find themselves restrained by some magical, Neocon "flypaper."

So much for September

Welcome back, Sam! Man, I have missed you. America has missed you. The truth has missed you.

Speaking of the truth, it appears that the Republicans' Magic Month of September won't be so magical, after all.

Petraeus said there was wide recognition that patience in Washington was wearing thin and while the coalition could produce some improvements in security, stability would depend on serious political reconciliation between Iraq’s Shiite-led government and the Sunni minority.
